I went to this ER on a Wednesday afternoon and they got me in pretty quickly. I was in server pain an could not stand up very well, they took me back and started working to figure out my issue. The first nurse was very friendly and helped me and my daughter, the RN who came in to take blood after the Dr saw me was a mess, he had and attitude and slammed some the test vials on the cart. I asked be it in serious pain in my abdomen and chest if everything was ok, he say yes why, I stated well you do not seem like a happy human right now. He replied no that is just who I am. OK so maybe not work with people who are just seeking help and need answers, I understand not everyone that comes to the ER is a nice person but I really don't want someone who is trying to help to be that moody, sorry. You area a nurse and we look to you for support and help. The Reason for the 2 stars is because I was there for hours while they still tried to figure out what was wrong, and trying to transport me to the NWMC on Houghton and Old Spanish Trail, the evening nurse was very kind and cared about my well being. He did his best to help, and finally he gave me oxygen to help with the heart and oxygen monitors to stop going off over and over. There was another issue I am not sure which hospital it was but the phone system had gone out so the ER could not reach anyone at the Houghton location to get me moved. How does this happen in 2025. WTH It turned out I had double pneumonia, that was found the next day after two more CT Scans. read more

Northwest ER, dehydration during to GI issue. MD ordered IV hydration, then left. Nurse put in IV port, never dehydrated me. Had CAT scan with contrast, after 2 hour wait for results, physician went over and cleared me to go. IV port still in my arm, asked him to get somebody to take it out, he did. 3 Feb 2026 at about 12pm we then went back to NW hospital ER once again. very crowded little seating in the waiting room. I was taken back, and after a short interview was given an IV, EKG, and blood draw told to wait in the waiting room again. Later I was told at the counter my cardiac enzymes came back negative and told to wait once again. At about 9pm was taken into ER and put on gurney in a room. Given saline and heparin in IV and told no food or water so I could go to Cath Lab tomorrow and to wait for a hospital room. 4 Feb 26 at about 7am my cardiologist came in and told me a cath would be scheduled, this was the last I saw of him. At about 10am I was taken to room on the 4th floor with an actual bed. I never saw the cath lab and left 3 days later on Friday "against medical advice". read more

I brought my 96 year old mom to this facility. She had fallen down on Christmas Day and fractured her pelvis and injured her elbow. The elbow had gotten red and was warm to the touch. We get into the exam room where she needed assistance to get onto the exam bed. The nurse was very rough. She practically grabbed my mom's legs and threw them up. She was hooked up to the oxygen and blood pressure machines. The Dr came in and checked her elbow and barely looked at the bruise on mom's upper leg. The nurse that came in to give her an antibiotic for the infection in her elbow didn't even talk to her. He gave me the pill cup and water to give to her. As he walked out he mumbled, "You can leave". We continued to sit there because she was still hooked up. The nurse that was rough with mom came in after a couple of minutes and said, "You know you can leave". I said, "Do you want me to fkng unhook her"? It was like it was an inconvenience for them to be doing their jobs. Never again will I use this place. read more

I'm 6 weeks pregnant and went in because I was vomiting so much I couldn't eat in days. They took one look at me and said " you're fine this is completely normal" Gave me zofran and a cup of water. When I went to get checked out BY AN ACTUAL DOCTOR they said that I was severely dehydrated and was in dire need of an IV for days now. My doctor couldn't believe the service they gave me. They also gave me a prescription without using my insurance. I spent almost $30 for three small pills. Save your time, save your life. Go to TMC . The doctor literally made me feel like I was the dumb one. But why go through all that school if you can't sit with a patient and actually help them. At this point just quit. read more

My husband was feeling unwell and required prompt medical attention, so we went to the nearest hospital to our home. Upon arrival at the front desk, my husband presented his military ID. The receptionist immediately questioned why he did not go to the clinic on base. My husband explained that he did not want to drive across town and chose your hospital because we live only ten minutes away. Despite this explanation, the receptionist reiterated her comment about the on-base clinic rather than proceeding with the check-in process. Her remarks were unnecessary, unprofessional, and made us feel uncomfortable during an already stressful situation. At no point should a patient be questioned or judged for seeking care at a civilian hospital. Unfortunately, the experience did not improve after check-in. My husband received little to no assistance for his medical concerns, and the nurse assigned to him appeared dismissive and disengaged. When my husband explained what was wrong, the nurse reacted as though she did not understand him, which further added to our frustration and concern. Ultimately, no meaningful care or solutions were provided. This experience left us feeling dismissed, disrespected, and unheard. Military service members and their families deserve to be treated with professionalism, empathy, and respect--especially when seeking urgent medical care. read more

I came to this emergency center due to severe neck pain. It was not due to injury or musculoskeletal. At 4 am, when I still could not fall to sleep, my wife finally forced me to go. When the nurse came in, she did not seem to care too much about what she was doing. She did not acknowledge that my blood pressure was 140/101 and pulse was 115 bpm. She briefly asked me what I was there for and what I was allergic to, and informed me that the doctor would be in shortly. However, she did not ask any medical questions or even ask about my current medications. When I finally got seen by a doctor, he was apathetic and rude. Dr. Mayo walked in the door, stood at the foot of the bed, and asked, "Where do you hurt?" As I explained, he stared at me as if I were speaking a foreign language. He finally came to the side of the bed, felt my kneck for several seconds, and then said he would order blood work and a CT. Then he walked out, never to be seen again. After what felt like forever, the nurse came back, drew my blood, and gave me Toridol. I made a joke that I'll take it, "but it won't do jack." I suffer from migraines occasionally, and I know Toridol is a glorified NSAID. However, it gets the job done sometimes. Then, she walked out, never to be seen again. Then the wait continued. Mind you, I'm 1 of 2 patients in the building. I finally get called in for my CT, and as I am walking with the tech, the doctor starts talking to him about another patient in the hallway. They reveal that the other patient's (woman) imaging had not been read for over 3hrs. At this point, I'm in terrible pain. I couldn't lay my head back, so I sat there holding it upright for over an hr. My wife went to the nurse's station and asked the nurse how long it should take for the Toridol to work, and if it should be working by now, it's not. The nurse said she would talk to the doctor. The wait continues. After 30 mins, my wife pressed the call button. We asked for the nurse again and were told she was talking with the doctor. Another 30 mins went by, and my wife went back out to ask for the nurse, and we were told that she would be "right there." She never came. I literally think she ended her shift. We never saw or heard from her again. At this point, I would rather be home suffering than sitting listening to nurses laugh and tell stories while I've been sitting in pain, not being updated or notified of anything. I finally gave up. I walked to the nurse's station and saw an entirely new group of nurses. I asked for my IV to be removed, told them I was done, and told them I had already received my blood work results via email. I figured they could just call me with the CT results. The nurse told me that I needed to sign a form, and out of peer frustration, I informed him that I was not "going to sign s**t." As we left, I told him to "call me if I'm dying." To me, if they didn't take it seriously, then why should I? This experience made me feel like they didn't have a clear plan for my treatment and were not concerned about my symptoms. It was really frustrating and made me feel like I wasn't getting the best care possible. Lastly, the discharge letter in my online portal accurately reflects what I said. However, it fails to acknowledge their incompetence and lack of proper care. I hope the hospital can improve its policies and procedures so that patients like me feel more confident in our care. e in need of medical care. NO ACCOUNTABILITY OR REMORSE!! how would you feel if your two month old INFANT left this medical center with bruises, in distress, and in terror . My nephew went in with an over 100 degree fever at northwest this monday. northwest medical professionals told dad he was at fault for his child sickness.(only big problems being baby had a cough and high fever) Also to then tell baby's father it's his fault and he doesn't pay attention to his own baby and coerced consent for medical testing that wasn't necessary and could have made his non existent condition worse. Not till being transferred to TMC and receiving quality care and support from staff there was baby deemed safe , healthy , and FINE . most importantly disagreeing with EVERYTHING staff and northwest had said . we've reached out to the hospital and they really don't care about the way this baby was treated and the way staff took "care" of this infant . read more

Went here after a sudden onset of severe hip pain. X-ray was normal. I asked for something for pain and was told since nothing was broken, they would not prescribe anything for pain. It took a very painful week before I could see a M.D. who prescribed steroids that helped. This visit was a waste of my time and money. I received an online survey requesting I rate my care. I asked that they call me but it has been 3 weeks and no phone call. I will never go back. The only person who showed compassion was the x-ray technician. read more

Despicable. Incompetent. Cruel. Dishonest! My FAMILY WERE APPALLED AT THE HIDEOUS TREATMENT AND THE FACT THEY WERE RELEASING ME AFTER LESS THAN 12 HOURS SINCE I HAD MULTIPLE HEART ATTACKS. No doctor came in to tell me anything. I had no heart doctor and per NW I would have to find my own. No referrals. No medication. No follow-up. I was released from NW with no OXYGEN, although my O2 was in the 50'and 60's. I was vomiting as we made ourselves to the parking lot. No medication nor referrals. NOTHING!! I called my Pulmonologist repeatedly only to be told they would get back to me by the end of day. This went on for 8 days. Still nothing. Basically NW Houghton treated me like a piece of garbage and the medical staff appeared to be educated in some 3rd world country! You will get medications get sent to the wrong location numerous times. You will likely get office staff that fail to communicate the purpose of your visit and get charged for the visit after being told. You absolutely will have trouble with billing on false promises, completely devoid of communication between the office and billing, never receiving calls back for messages, and being on hold for hours at a time to MAYBE be answered and led on a wild goose-chase. AVOID THIS COMPANY! Even if you like your doctor or nurse, stay away. read more

I took my 18 month old son here because he was having a lot of trouble breathing when he got a cold. They did nasal swabs and a chest X-ray. The doctor seemed like he didn't even want to examine my son and sent us on our way without any treatment to help him and told me to let it pass. Twelve hours later my son was admitted to the ICU at TMC. The "care" here is completely underwhelming and I do NOT recommend taking anyone here. read more

I arrived at this facility at about 9am on a Wednesday morning feeling a bit discouraged based off of reviews, but I kept in mind that many people don't put good reviews when they have great experiences at medical facilities, so I figured I'd change that! Let me tell you, the staff at this ER in Vail was absolutely amazing! I was seen by Nurse Michelle and Dr. Amy Trott (for personal reasons I shall not disclose, HIPAA people lol) and they were both super awesome! Dr. Trott was so attentive and understanding, as well as caring! The woman who met with me in between for shots and prescription was also sweet (I forgot her name, so sorry)! I would most definitely recommend this facility to anyone in the Vail surrounding area if you're needing immediate medical attention (or like call 911). It's especially nice to have since Vail didn't have an ER for so long! A huge thanks to the people at Northwest Medical ER on Houghton Y'all are amazing! read more

I have come to this location three separate times for the convenience and have regretted each instance. The staff is very unpleasant and rude for the most part, especially the doctors and nurses. I went to the ER at NW Hospital on Houghton Rd. and Old Spainish Trail. I arrived at 7:50AM on April 24, 2023. I was seen immediately (my timing couldn't have been better). By 9:30 am I had been diagnosed and began treatment for pneumonia. I had an elevated white blood cell count and low levels of oxygen in my blood. I received breathing treatments and had blood drawn and analyzed by 11AM. I was advised to spend the night where I could be monitored. I am a senior citizen and my condition was serous. I was attended to and interacted with approximately 15 people during my overnight stay. Every person I encountered was professional, courteous and attentive. I don't know where or how they found these people but it was the most incredibly positive experience I've ever had in a hospital setting (including the birth of my children ). My mom was very ill from unknown stomach pains. We initially went to St. Joesphs where we waiting for about 5 hours and no one every attended to my moms pain or concerns about wait time. Which is understandable due to the pandemic shortage, but the customer service was awful. We left without her being seen. The next morning her pain got worse and decided to drive to Northwest Medical Center in vail. My mom was taken in within 5 min of being there and got a CT scan, pain management and amazing customer service. We will be driving 30 min every time we need to go to the emergency room! Had such a great experience with great doctors and nurses with superb bedside manners. They were able to diagnose and treat within 1 1/2 hours. We will for sure be returning for our emergency needs! read more

Worse medical staff in Tucson award officially goes to Northwest Medical center in vail they mistreat patients, they don't pay attention to the patients they only want to leave when they clock in. One of the Nurses Michelle she was rude after I walked out to ask for a blanket for my fiancé she proceeds to be rude with her when she asked to use the restroom and if they had gotten any word from the hospitals to see if they had room to admit her into the hospital and they only checked with one place and wanted to wait hours before checking again with the same hospital. read more

Doctor and nurses ok but billing department is a huge scam. Paid my $125 copay at time if service. While I expected I may owe something more I received a bill for physician charges. The bill states that they are not contracted with my insurance so I'm responsible for full balance. Called Blue Cross Blue Shield and was told they are indeed contracted and never received a claim. Contacted Northwest billing department to be told that it was "accidentally" sent to me the same to day it was submitted to insurance. Now I wait to see how long before its readjusted. So basically they just hope you dont follow up and will bill you and your insurance company-seems like fradulant practices to me. read more

Well this is my second time posting a review. They took my first one down. So I will say it again. Wow! I went in presenting with an ear infection. Clogged ears, vertigo, and a headache. I also had some back pain because for some unknown reason whenever I get emotional i have a pain in my back, it's weird. I wasn't concerned because I have had that before. I got some Morphine, and another drug that about knocked me off of the table. It instantly put a heat all over my body, my head felt like a rocked and I tasted something weird. I went into a full panic attack. It was for the nausea and dizziness. I then received a cat scan and back ex-rays. Not only did I receive those....... Every other person in there got the same. It was like an Oprah show. You get a cat scan, and you get a cat scan... You all get a cat scan. You get ex-rays, Yes.... everybody got an ex-ray as well. Why? Well because when I arrived I was told there is no co-pay to get seen, you will only have a co-pay for imaging. My daughter was sitting with me for those 8 hours and she agreed that there were too many of them all over. About 6 hrs after the scans and rays... The Dr. came in and said "Oh.... Let me check your ears." "Well there you go, both are infected." He left and 7 minutes later I had 3 prescriptions and I was free to go home. Got my first $1000.00 bill today. Just for imaging. Looking forward to the rest of them. What a scam this place is. They could have had me in and out in 30 minutes. read more

Unfortunately the elderly and women tend to get substandard care in our medical system. No place is this more accurate than here. My elderly mother fell and hit her head on the sidewalk. Her primary care office advised us to go to the emergency department. She had bleeding and severe swelling around her eye. I did a quick swipe with iodine to clean the wounds, put an ice pack on her, and headed to Northwest Medical Center since it is closest to where we live. We have never been there before, and we will never go back. I helped her check in but was not able to go back with her and was told I could wait in my car or go home since no one is allowed to be in the waiting room because of COVID. I understand the need to reduce the amount of people and protect people from exposure, but I need to know follow up care. Eventually they called to let me know to pick her up. My husband mentioned that my mother has memory problems, and they would need to repeat anything to me they told her. When I pulled up, she's outside by herself. They hadn't even wiped the blood out of her hair. I asked about the blood, and she said they didn't even touch the cuts or scrapes. I asked if I needed to wake her up every few hours. She said they didn't say anything. She said they took X-Rays and nothing was broken. I asked what the follow up care was; she said they didn't tell her anything. She handed me the paperwork that was given to her which was generic head injury information. I did not go in to get more information because I was so angry I was afraid I'd be arrested. When we got home, I cleaned the blood out of her hair, fully cleaned the wounds, and put another ice pack on her face. I did more than that so-called hospital did. read more

If there wa a négative review, I would have given it. It is a SHAME for a facility like Northwest hospital to reader such abysmal care! I had a sévère sciatica pain and it was so bad that I had to go to the ER. I couldn't even walk and nobody would come out to bring me there. Lucky for me I had some one drive me. They could see that I was bent from pain and yet, they did not even give me the médication the would help me get out of that excruciating pain. The gave me two muscle relaxers and a shot of motrin plus one Salonpa pad. When I asked if I can have two of those medicated pad, they said no, you can buy it at the pharmacy and buy it! Now I figurez they mean the ER's Pharmacy! No, they mean CVS and how on earth would I go there with this pain at midnight? I went back the next day only because my primairy doctor was closed on Fridays. They saw how my pain had not improved with the muscle relaxers, after 2 hours of waiting, they didn't even care to take an MRI and they prescrire steroids. The doctor was with me for 3 minutes, then this lady comes in and had me fill out 10 pages of paper work, never mind that I was already there the night before and I was in pain. They would not discharge me prior to getting getting my credit card payment! She was so rude and obnoxious, telling me that the insurance won't kick in after my déductible was collected and I had to pay $500 for each night. They did NOTHING but to spend 3 min with me, taking my blood pressure and subscribing muscle relaxers that did not work. The bathroom was filthy, rust everywhere, the exam room had food on the floor and it was simply a shame! I will die before going to the ER or at least Northwest ER. read more

Lousy medical facility, incredibly long waits, the Doctor has zero bedside manner, refuses to or thinks he is too busy to actually listen to you about what you are experiencing. Hope you don't need to use the men's room while waiting as the sink is actually set to deliver such a small amount of water that you can't even really get your hands wet to wash them. If you care about your health... stay away. If you care about your money... stay away. If you want a fast emergency room... go here. I went in with bad knee pain and inability to flex my knee. We showed up and were seen almost immediately. I explained I could walk but could not lift my leg on my own. Hanging from a high seated position I could only lift it about 15% and that caused severe pain. I was given X-rays and then told I needed to see a specialist. The put a ace bandage on with no follow up instructions. We then made our $150 copay and left. 45 minutes total time. I wasn't impressed but I wasn't that upset. A week later we then revived another bill for another $250. That was followed with an X-ray bill. Then today over a month later I received another bill. This time for the individual doctor who barley even saw me for another $250. So now I am at almost $700 for an ace bandage and no diagnosis. We went there because it was an ER. If I knew nothing would have been done I would have not gone. They did less than an urgent care. The sad thing is at my kids football game one of the 17 year old trainers looked at it and gave me a diagnosis that later matched the diagnosis that the specialist later gave me. Awful care! Would have died if my friend didn't take me to Banner ER afterward! Wish I could give 0 stars for this Northwest Medical Center ED. My friend drove me to this terrible hospital after days of repeated kidney stones, and kidney pain that had been getting worse over about a week. I am Active Duty military based in California, and I was in Tucson for military training so was no where near my PCP. The local base did not have an ER so was recommended to go here. Was in a lot of pain in my left lower back and throwing up. There was no wait at all, no one else was in the waiting room or seemingly being seen there at all! A UA was done and I was given some pain meds. UA came back clear and the nurse came and took out my IV while I was sleeping (I hadn't slept properly in days). I woke up and asked the nurse what she was doing and she told me I was being discharged as the UA was clear. By then the IV was out and she was handing my discharge papers. No other tests or scans were done. No bloodwork, no CT, nothing! I asked to talk to the Doctor but the nurse was very rude and refused to go talk to her. My friend who brought me in tried to advocate for me but they didn't listen to either of us. We are both military Paramedics and have never seen care like this anywhere. I left in tears. Ended up going to Banner ED a couple days later. At Banner they did a bunch of scans and tests, and I was quickly diagnosed with a kidney obstruction with severe hydronephrosis. They said it had likely been developing for weeks or even months! I was admitted and taken straight to emergency surgery within a short time of arriving. I became septic and my left kidney and ureter were both huge with old urine. I would have died without the surgery. Do not take anyone you care about to Northwest Medical Center! I am so glad I ended up going somewhere else otherwise I wouldn't be here to type this review! I know Banner has a much longer wait but it's definitely worth it. I think there's a reason no one else was waiting at this hospital that night. My friend still talks about this night as it really upset both of us! read more

I would have given 0 stars but that's not an option. My daughter went here to get antibiotics for an infection. It was during Christmas week so she couldn't get into her regular doctor for an appointment right away. After paying the $650 bill (our portion after insurance) we get a collection notice and phone calls. After disputing the charges it seems it's for a bill we NEVER even got... And it's for another $600 on top of the $3000 insurance paid and $650 I paid. They didn't even do anything!!! They took a urine sample, wrote a prescription and sent her on her way, which by the way was the wrong medication and did nothing for her infection. STAY AWAY FROM THIS FACILITY UNLESS YOU WANT TO OVER PAY FOR SERVICES YOU DON'T RECEIVE AND GET YOUR CREDIT RUINED. read more

I will never go back. I've been disputing a bill for months due to charges for IV's I NEVER received. They forgot about me several times for the 6 hours I was there and turns out someone erased my name off the board! My fiancé had to go find staff to see what was going on several times. The nurse was terrible and was angry with me when I refused morphine he'd already opened. He didn't even tell me what he was about to put in my IV. I told him my pain was 5 or 6 out of 10, that does not need IV morphine! They messed up my account between my sister and myself. I could go on and on. Disputing the bill/experience and lack of treatment did nothing they basically said they'd try to do better in the future and sent my bill to collections. read more

If I could give them negative reviews I would. the entire company is in ethical. know several paramedics who say they would drive to Phoenix before taking family members to Northwest. Two emergency room visits after we met our deductible, and Northwest said we are in network. Then we receive two different bills for $2000 each for 20 minutes of time each. The doctors don't take the insurance. Scam Artist, now they are suing my daughter for $7000 for 40 minutes worth of work because they said it wasn't an emergency! Even though her primary care sent her there saying she was having a heart attack. Stay as far away as you can! read more

My experience has been excellent until I went to schedule an urgent appointment as my previous PCP recently retired. I called to get in with one of the physician taking over his patients and the central scheduler was abrasive and condescending. I couldn't believe her tone and communication skills and it got to the point I had to ask her name. She noted it was Kathy J. She noted that letters were sent out to patients to get a new doctor and all patients from my previous doctor will be treated as new patients. I thought the retiring doctor's patients would transfer to the other doctors on board to keep the report without the existing patients go through the process of a new patient. Kathy J. also made a point of what she can see about me on her end in regards to previous appointments, etc. At that point I explained to her I don't need to establish care with Northwest as I shouldn't be intimidated and hung up. I went to Banner and established care. It's night & day customer service compared to Northwest. read more

Horrible in every way! Sent me home with no help even though the ambulance said I was sick. Doctor judged right away and wouldn't listen. He said it's just heart burn. Causes me to almost fall over in pain in my colon?!!! I had a severe infecrion in my colon and my stomach because he didn't find it. Ended up paying another doctor to to this places jOb. Thankfully I'm on the mend. Expensive and horrible. read more

Fast and convenient but our experience with the doctor was bad and their billing practices were deceptive. The doctor was rude and arrogant. She ran unnecessary tests that cost us a huge sum of money then referred us somewhere else to start over. No way I would ever go back to this place and no way I would ever recommend it or this doctor. read more
