Colorado Toll Roads and Express lanes are a disaster. 1000x overpriced to the point no one even drives on it. Ridiculous.

Very unfriendly business. I made a mistake, and admitted it; I missed my exit and had to go over 4 miles to the next one, then loop back. They wouldn't make a one-time exception and waive my fee. So, I will just avoid using that road and find another way around, to which there are plenty. Terrible customer service. E470 is wiling to work with customers when registering new customers and give them the discounted rate when making a license plate toll acct. NW does NOTHING..... and smugly tell you you have to pay the full price plus their "processing fees" ( highway robbery). This tollway is way too expensive. I drive from Thornton to Boulder for work, so it's either suburban traffic or take the only highway option available. Never got a bill. Just a collection agency. I have ExpressToll set up and I thought I was covered. NO for some go forsaken reason Colorado has two collection agencies. (Maybe more) Never heard of Northwest Parkway Authority and as a new resident how would I. This is dirt water politics to me. Like old school speed traps. Website has no number to call. I'm stuck using my time to prove to them they never sent me a bill but neither northwest parkway or their collections company does anything to help this situation. It seems criminal. Here's my experience: While traveling with my fifth wheel trailer recently, I was cut off from my exit from N-470 to N-I-25. I had no choice but to go to the very next exit on NWPKY and u-turn it back to I-25. The records show that I was on road for 1 min 10 seconds before I hit the return toll station, assuming another 1:10 seconds, they charged $6.40 each direction for a total of $12.80 for my correction. I got the billing as part of my Express Toll billing from E470. Ironically, they told me to simply contact Northwest Parkway Authority and they would at least refund half of it, if not all of the tolls. After several minutes on the phone explaining with NWPKY, I was asked what I would like done. I offered to pay one of the two charges if they would kindly credit the other half. The rep then stated that they would not credit me because I actually used their roadway, regardless of that I was forced onto it. Express Toll has been great to communicate with for various reasons over the years; Northwest Parkway Authority is most certainly NOT. I see many other comments about 'criminal' behavior...I feel strongly that they seem to have no moral compass when dealing with their 'customers.' I would have to believe that they have a contract with the state to operate here, and have performance requirements as part of that contract. This company's tactics are deceitful and feel like a scam. I was driving on a public road after exiting highway 36. I continued straight on the public road and after some time saw a sign stating that I was on a toll road. At no point did I turn off the public road, at no time did I go into a toll entrance, at no point did I exit from the public road, but I was now somehow on a toll road. I immediately looked for a way to get off the toll road after seeing the sign, but there was no opportunity to leave until after passing under their cameras. I received a bill in the mail and called to dispute it, explaining what I said above. They told me that even if I accidentally got on the toll road I still had to pay it. I disagree with labeling it as an accident, and if I had accidentally turned off a public road and onto a toll road I'd happily take accountability. But this was entrapment. I was tricked into being on the road, and at no point made any sort of choice to try and use their road. I can't understand how they were allowed to build the road this way, where the entrance to the toll road is indistinguishable from the public road (see attached photo showing the intersection where the toll road starts if you continue going straight). I am contacting the Colorado Department of Transportation as well to file a complaint. This is a disgusting business practice, to trick people into using something that they don't want and forcing them to pay for it. I am not someone who was using their road knowingly and is now trying to get out of the bill. It was the first time I'd ever fallen into their trap and they refused to waive the $6.60 after I explained the misunderstanding. They don't seem to care about scamming people, it seems that's their business model. I have paid the $6.60 so that they don't try and con me more with high fees and debt collectors/credit report hits. I believe they should refund that money and apologize for their deceptive practices. read more

The bills just keep coming and coming. I bought a new car and drove through their trap with my temp tags and received a toll bill 6 months after the fact. Even though I had an Express Toll account they said they were still charging me because I hadn't registered my temp tags with Express Toll, so I paid it. 6 months later I get another bill, this one with late charges and mail fees. I called and complained, they said it was a different charge than the one I had paid before. Even though the dates were similar I couldn't prove them wrong so I paid it. A week later, another bill for 2 more tolls, they just keep adding new ones. This place is a total SCAM and needs to be put out of business! read more

I was driving the pay by plate at first, but since I go through !-25 north and south at least once a week, I got the GO Pass. It is great! Also, when you call customer service, you get a live, knowledgeable, friendly person to answer all your questions. It is a little expensive, but you will pay a premium price for ANY convenience. I use the toll lane all the time, because there are (usually) less cars in it. But if you have a GO Pass, you get a better rate. If I was trying to save money, I would just drive in the other lanes full of traffic and congestion. I love it and will now add my boyfriend to my account because Pat (agent 64) was so helpful on the phone! read more

Drove the E-470 Nov of 2018. Saw toll signs and was looking for a toll booth. Was blindly following my Google maps (no I didn't turn off "avoid tolls"). I mean, even when I realized I was on a toll road how much could it be? Illinois is 3 - 4 dollars, same in OK. Of course now I realize there are not any toll booths and wanted to warn fellow travelers not to use E-470 as the tolls are excessively expensive - in my opinion. A month after traveling through Colorado I get a Toll Bill in the mail for $22.50. Fool me once, shame on me, my own dumb fault (saying to myself as I resentfully pay my bill, and they threaten to suspend my license if I don't). Maybe this review will save other motorists from paying one of the most expensive tolls in the United States. There are alternatives to this road. read more

Warning. When driving north on I-25 heading to Broomfield there is no indication that the exit is taking you to a toll road until you are on the exit. Worst part is getting charged $1.00 for a "processing" fee and $0.80 for a bulk mailed letter on a $1.50 toll for driving less that 2 miles. I want Northwest parkway to be held accountable and I want there to be a drastic change on how they bill. I have an account with Express toll that is on auto pay and Northwest Parkway contracts with express toll to use that auto pay. Several months ago I updated my auto pay credit card with Express Toll but they did not link it for the auto pay with Northwest parkway for payment. With a little over $74.88 in toll fees I received a bill for $658. That includes $25 past due fees for each $1.35 toll. That is 15 $25 past due fees plus a late fee of $1.00 per toll fee! I called Express Toll who quickly saw what happened and waived any and all fees on their end. They further called Northwest Parkway to explain the error and to make sure they were informed my account was in good standing dating back to the first charge. Northwest Parkway stated that they understood it was not my error but that my error was not paying the bills when sent by Northwest parkway. My account was on AUTO PAY...should I have looked at the bill YES I acknowledge that. With that said... I did not open them and did not look at them because I knew they were set up for AUTO PAY. I have $74.88 in toll charges and $583.12 in late fees!! With the oh so kind gesture (NOT) of 80% off of the past due fees they reduced my total bill to $238.65. Regardless, this is truly highway robbery and in an economy such as this I am appalled. I have the luxury of being able to pay this and I did but what about the people who don't? For there to be a charge of 26.00 in fees per $1 charge is criminal or at the very least unethical. Why is the late fee on every toll and not on the total balance for the month like every other bill in America. Something needs to be done!! read more

Did you know NW Parkway charges $4.40 regardless of distance travelled on their five exit section extension of E-470? I've been driving on the NW Parkway from Sheridan to Dillon (287) to save a few minutes. One exit, four miles = $4.40 E-470 from Pena to I-25 is eighteen miles and $5.90. They have an online calculator that illustrates charges per exit. Quebec to I-25 is over four miles and costs $1.25. Why does NW Parkway charge so much? Because they can! Now that Dillon is widened, I'll be taking an alternate route. read more

After struggling to get set-up on their HORRIBLE website (because if your bill is past due, you can't use the just pay bill option, and got notice requiring you to call the office, but those were closed!) Yes this may be a small toll road but it seems to be run pretty well. It sucks that the tolls are tied to the price of inflation but that seems to be common with many places now-a-days. I have contacted the authority several times with questions regarding the road and always received quick and detailed answers. Pay By Plate has finally come to the road and that is a nice convenience. With the NW Parkway adding this, almost the enitre Parkway and 470 are now pay by plate or a discount if using Go Pay/EZ Pay. The website is a bit dated and could use some refreshing but the service from the authority has been top-notch. I'm not sure someone can be a fan of a toll road so I'll keep this a 4. read more

Turned off I-25, under the impression that I had 1 exit to get off before the toll road started. That's a mistake that I won't make twice. What pissed me off was the fact that they charged me $1.65 in processing fees, for a toll of $1.35. Obviously, this is not about money. It's about deceptive business practices. They didn't state that I was on a toll road and they fraudulently stated the toll rates. I'll send them a check for $1.35 with a waiver on the back. If they cash the check, then we're done. Called the customer service line and they had an address from 2010 in their system and "that's where they sent the bills to." That is bull!! I got my bill and needed to correct my name & address. The customer service rep, Andre, was condescending and rude. When I talked to his supervisor, apparently, they "get" your info by buying it though they have access to the DMV - neither times did my info transfer correctly. Went to pay online... payment website wasn't working properly either. I called back & let the company know. Will aim to avoid using NW Parkway in the future. Dont use this tollway. The owner of this is a crook. This is not owned or operated by the state. Also they sneak fees onto this hoping people wont notice. I was on e-mail billing and they charged me a mailing fee. I called and they said that is because they mail a bill. Bottom-line: If you receive a bill from Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP, use a credit card you can monitor and easily dispute charges on. Why? Because when multiple "customers" victimized by this scam used a card to pay the bill, that card immediately received suspicious charges. It's jaw-droppingly despiccable. I was under the impression that NW Parkway was under the same umbrella toll group as e-470. Not so, it turns out, and they obfuscate that fact as much as is practicable. I took this road perhaps 6 times in the last year when we were moving and only recently received a bill just shy of $600. Want to see an itemized breakdown of your charges? Too bad, for the NWPKY never answers the phone ("Higher than normal call volume"), and the despiccable LGB&S firm can only show legal fees. It leaves one thunderstruck at how companies like this are just allowed to gouge people. There's a reason this is not a BBB-Accredited "business." This is a disgusting and predatory scam that preys on the most vulnerable communities, but wrapped in enough legal and local ordinances that it's considered okay - presumably CDOT loves it because it helps unburden their dreadfully-maintained roads.
