*Took a trip up to the San Juans and having flown both Kenmore and NW Seaplanes I have to say you can't even compare them. *Earplugs? Nope, their planes have full headsets and the pilots explain local sites along the way and know so much about the Puget Sound and San Juans. *Family run business for decades, I just feel like they really care about you and your business, even if it costs just a bit more than Kenmore its worth every dime. read more

I had some friends in from out of town, and wanted to give them a truly Pacific Northwest experience. We took a seaplane from Lake Washington to Friday Harbor, and we were blown away at how much fun it was. The Otter was great, the headphones in the plane cut the noise, and it was great scenery. The takeoff and landing were smoother than commercial flying. I hadn't even realized we were in the air for a few minutes. Jason, the pilot, pointed out landmarks and locations both directions. He was very flexible about take-off time from Friday Harbor. Highly recommended experience. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. read more

Northwest Seaplanes was terrific from start to finish. Booking was easy and they answered my questions in a friendly manner. Flexibility in planning: I didn't know exactly where We'd be when I booked my pickup, and that was no problem at all. I booked a pickup in a general area (Desolation Sound) and then called 2 days before to let them know specifically where. It was not a location on their published list, but they have flown in there before and knew the layout so not a problem. Then when weather came in the night before and we had to move the boat to new anchorage, they were totally fine picking me up at a new location. The flight itself was great. The pilot spotted orca in the water so he slowed down, dropped altitude and circled so we could get a good look. He did that twice. Amazing! It was also fun to have the headphones so we could talk and also hear the pilot to pilot communications with other NW Seaplanes nearby. Customs was easy - there was an officer at the Renton office when we landed. I've flown the other Seattle float plane service (Kenmore) a few times and recommend NW over them. read more

We recently used NW Seaplanes to fly friends into a small bay in Canada. In the past we have always used Kenmore Air because we didn't know there was an option. Kenmore beware.......what you have lost or do not think is important any more NW has got and expanded upon. Great customer service, knowledgeable people on the phone, quick and correct responses, friendly pilots. Obviously, owners that care about their customers! I made a dinner flight reservation to the Alderbrook Resort as a surprise 30th birthday dinner to my fiancé. We were advised to arrive at 4:40 as our flight was suppose to take off at 5. We show up right on time and we were told the pilot should be landing within the next 5-10 minutes. 5-10 minutes later, the pilot still has not arrived from a previous tour. So we were told it could be anywhere from another 5-20 minutes. Well 20 minutes passed and the front desk staff tells us she can't get ahold of the pilot and that they have gps for each flight, but she couldn't see where he last was (last known location was at 1:45). All I'm saying is if you have gps- especially for a touring company, you should be able to locate tours no problem. Anyways, we get told another 10-20 minutes when the pilot should be arriving. 5:45 pm comes (we should have been sitting down at our reservation at the resort) and we finally get tired of waiting and canceled our flight that was apparently non existent and leave. Needless to say you NW Seaplanes were unorganized, not accommodating, you clearly need better technology with more experience pilots and staff. You ruined my fiancé 30th birthday. We could have spent our day doing something else. Thanks for nothing. read more

Loved everything about NW Seaplanes! All of the guys were wonderful to deal with from the first phone inquiry. You can tell they love what they do and have a passion for flying. Mark was our pilot and was incredible. He took the time to show us what we were flying over and made sure that we got the most out of the flights. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip from Renton to Echo Bay with Northwest Seaplanes. The check-in process was quick and easier than I expected. Our pilot communicated points of interest to us as we flew over them. The flight was smooth and scenic both going and on our return flight. Our first flight was in the De Havilland Beaver and our return on the larger Otter. Both were great. I wouldn't hesitate to fly with them again on our next trip. read more

Requested a charter seaplane flight from Friday Harbor to the private entrance of Butchart Gardens. Picked up at 11am, cleared customs at Victoria Airport while remaining in the plane, short hop to the dock at Butchart. Enjoyed a leisurely lunch, walked the entire garden and returned to the dock for the 3pm flight back to Friday Harbor. Was met there by CBP agent for passport check and a stroll back to the Hotel. AMAZING !!! (Shane arranged the entire package and was an excellent pilot and narrator.) read more

Shane was extremely knowledgable of Seattle and was able to share a lot of information as we flew over the city. He was relatable and kind, which calmed any nerves I had. On time, few stops, smooth ride. What could be better? Flew out of Renton for Sullivan Bay, BC and returned six days later. The pilot (Jason or Justin, I think) was really nice and a great pilot. I've flown Kenmore, and they're good too, but NW Seaplanes was more convenient in terms of drive (from Tacoma) and equally skilled in flying. I would absolutely use them again. read more

Phenomenal day out with Northwest Seaplanes! Was a bucket list item - my father always wanted to do it. He called around to different companies to find out what itineraries and costs would be. When he first called, the cost was high due to their larger airplanes. Shane suggested we try another company (not to be named) and man, were we disappointed in those guys. The man on the phone was surly and pressured us to book; he did not seem interested in how special this event was for our family. Though the cost was less, they just didn't get what we were after. So we called back and booked with Northwest Seaplanes. And we were so glad we did! We hired the plane for a few hours, and our pilot Jim was super flexible about where to fly. We were even able to lunch in Friday Harbor! Was a perfect day thanks to Shane, Jim and the gang down at Northwest Seaplanes - can't recommend enough! read more

These guys know what they're doing. My wife and I flew up to Echo Bay, BC, to meet her sister and brother-in-law for a week in the Broughtons on their boat. The flight was fantastic. Fun listening to the pilot chatter along the way. Our pilot, Jim, was friendly, amiable, and knowledgeable. Pointed out sights along the way and cheerfully answered questions. Lots of fun being in small plane (DeHavilland Beaver) - just six passengers - one sitting up in copilot seat. Very very cool. If you're thinking about it - stop - just do it! read more

I just wanted to say a big thank you to Shane at Northwest Seaplanes. I planned a surprise tour for my husband and I for our anniversary thinking our tour was today (Friday). I took the day off work and had everything ready. We started driving to Renton and called to verify the address, come to find out our tour was the next day when my husband would be out of town for the weekend, this weekend being the last tour of the season... Let's just say I ruined our whole anniversary and am now driving back home feeling pretty deflated and upset with myself. Thankfully Shane at Northwest Seaplanes made me feel better by offering to let me keep my reservation and use it next year. He did not have to do that and I am really thankful that he did. That to me is over the top customer service and putting the customer's feelings first. Even though I have to wait until next season to do this tour I still really want to experience this and thankful that he allowed me to do so. Thank you. read more

Absolute worst experience ever. Had reservations for a seaplane flight from seattle to leave at 8am. We checked in at 7:30am. About 10 minutes later we were told our flight was delayed and should be leaving in an hour no problem. We went and got Starbucks then came back. After that hour delay passed they then came out and let us know the flight would be delayed a little longer. Around 10am they finally told us our flight was completely canceled. I had a another tour scheduled for 11:30am so I asked one of the agents what they would suggest to get us there earlier. They said what's the big deal. No accountability for the inconvenience or any attempt to try and help us or show any understanding what so ever. I ended up calling another aviation and they were able to schedule us a flight right away. Suggestion to Seaplans hire some people with customer service experience because it was terrible. read more
