The last time I went in was horrible. I went in about maybe 25 min before closing time to pick up some bugs for my pet and to look at some cat toys. They had moved some things around and was looking for the the place they keep them. A younger girl with dark hair asked if I needed help I told her and she replied not very polite but I was like maybe bad day. So I went on to look for what I needed. I got in line and there was quit a few people in line and one woman had quit a few purchases witch is fine I am glad to wait. My daughter and myself hurd the announcement saying they are closing soon. We were in line before that announcement by the way. Then when it was our turn my daughter saw a set of post cards on the counter that had dolphins on it I thought I could pick one up if it was not to expensive as the sighn on them said 50% off i could not find a price so I asked the checker with blond hair how much it was. She looks at me and rolls her eyes looks at the cards and says sorry dont know off the top of my head. I said well can you check she rolls her eyes at me and looks to the girl next to her on the other till. She is the one who told us were the cat supplies was. The blond checker asked her what the price was. She came over looked at the card and said well the price is right there. She said it in a way that would make me feel stupid for not finding the price even though the blond checker couldn't find it. I chose not to buy it as they were so rude to me. We checked out I told my daughter that was so rude as we were walking out. My daughter told me when I was looking at the cards witch was 2 seconds the blond checker was rolling her eyes and bugging her eyes out. My daughter was so mad when we got to the car because she said I didnt deserve that treatment or tone and that i did nothing wrong. She tried to call right when we got to the car for a manager but It just hit closing time and they didnt answer. I have been going to NWS for 45 years and have never had that type of treatment or from any store for that matter. I was truley shocked at the treatment I received! Northwest Seed & Pet has a huge selection of.... everything Tack, Feed, unique hard to find plants, and a huge section of fish, reptiles, etc. Their mascot, his name is Tucker... He's a huge tortoise about the size of a garbage can lid!!! If anything else it's a fun place to take the kids just to explore all the unique pets they have available! Since the pandemic, everyone has had to change the way they do business and I am happy that this place makes us feel safe when we shop here by requiring customers to wear masks and by limiting how many shoppers are inside. They are following safety procedures and we love the new staff. They are very professional and courteous. I have raised fish and have loved houseplants and gardening for decades and have shopped through time at Northwest Seed & Pet typically once a month for many years. I know the prices associated with the products that I buy very well, not only at NW Pet and Seed but at other retailers as well. You should consider this to be an extremely negative review because what I saw today was numerous COVID-19 examples of price gouging timed with the release of Federal Relief Checks. I saw many items on the shelves in NW Pet and Seed priced 200-300% over what would be considered the norm. A less extreme example would be Tetra Min 7.06 oz containers of Clear Water tropical fish flakes. I used to buy this item for $7.98, today at Walmart it was raised to $10.98 but at NW Pet and Seed on Division in Spokane Washington it was raised to $18.99. I can not recommend shopping at NW Seed & Pet on Division at this time. Big chains like Walmart have benefitted by having their competition shut down during the Global Pandemic. I've seen gallons of bleach in major grocery store shelves priced at $5.99. The only thing depressed is the price of gas. The best price for Regular Gas that I am aware of in Spokane is at a convenience store on West Boone Ave. called Bong's. Gas there this past week has been $1.79 a gallon. I am a huge fan of their frost free pottery! And it all is 70% off right now! Which means that I can literally put a tree inside of the pot and I can leave it out all winter. These huge pots are pretty hard to come by for these kinds of prices (and shipping them in is really expensive) so I really appreciate NW Seed and Pet carrying them, and them deeply discounting them! The staff was absolutely amazing tackling the job of loading up this massive piece of pottery into my car and and making it happen with a smile. I came into the store literally 5 minutes before they were going to close and started hemming and hawing about a particular massive piece of pottery that didn't have a price tag. The staff person I was working with was amazing and quickly found a fair price, explained to me why it was that price, calculated the sale price, found me high quality soil, problem shooted a SKU for the pot, recruited a co-worker to load everything on a pallet, and was ready to load it up in my car. I was really impressed with the "go-getter" mentality of the staff to problem solve. There were multiple points where they could have gotten discouraged or gave up, but each time they just brought a "can do" attitude and I walked out a happy customer. There are still a few of these beautiful pieces at their north side location (and I also noticed some amazing house plants as well). I'll be back! read more

So I had gone there to get mice they didn't have any fancy mice although I asked 10 minutes before I got there. That didn't bother me. I went back a few days later to get two more and asked for two female mice they gave me a female and a male. I had my three mice for two weeks before the male killed my other two females. Great plant selections and supplies as well as a fun animal selection on the pet store side. All the staff were very helpful and attentive. As we were looking around employees were educating customers on reptiles and other employees were cleaning. This is a great little place to stop if your looking for pet supplies or plants. read more

I like the idea of this place. After we picked up our new english bulldog puppy (adorable!) we realized we had no puppy items at home. Not even a collar. We were headed to PetSmart but drove by this store on our way there. We got there about 8:30pm and still had our drive back to Seattle so it was nice we got in and out of there quickly. I really love indy pet shops. They carry everything from gardening to livestock feed, which is rare in these types of pet stores. We managed find a plain black harness, leash and kennel. But everything was REALLY dated and dusty, their toy selection was tiny and the layout was confusing. We would of spent more time/money if things were more up to date and clean. Looking back we should of gone to PetSmart since we only needed a few puppy items but if you need garden, fish or livestock items this place is worth a visit. Also, stay away from the beef sticks-- made me feel pretty sick on the way home haha. read more

Never asked if we needed help while we scoured an aisle. Just kept on with their conversations about "their cat not eating the ants" the other location is super friendly don't know what it is about this location. We just tried to return items, but because they didn't see us walk in with them. (went to get other merchandise, so can have one transaction.) They not only kept them, but want to review the tape before returning anything. They said not accusing us of stealing, but need to see the tape. He kept asking employees where the crickets were located and each one gave different answers and sent me around the store on a wild goose chase. Finally he went up to the checkout to get help. I like this spot, fairly big inside and a good assortment of pets. When we went in they had mini pin/ chihuahua pups for sale and i wanted to adopt them all . There where some fish that were not for sale and or some reptiles, so im not sure what was going on there or if it was just for display? i will definitely come back and purchase some plants and get my tropical fish tank going :) read more

The pet area in this store is filthy and stinky. The animals are improperly cared for and the pet area staff is rude and doesn't care about the health of the animals. I brought multiple issues to the staff's attention regarding 2 Leopard Geckos about two months ago, and they told me they were healthy and getting the proper care. Then about a month ago, after seeing the condition of the geckos only worsen, I spoke to them again and got the same response. I even spoke with the store manager and owner (Robert Mauk) and still nothing was done to help these poor animals. These geckos had hardly any water and the water they did have was clearly old and dirty. The floor of their cage was covered in poop, so clearly the cage had not been cleaned in over a month. (Leopard Geckos only poop about once per day). The only food these geckos had were a few meal worms crawling around in the gecko poop (This is what causes parasites/diseases because the worms eat the poop and then the geckos eat the worms). Also, the geckos had no shelter whatsoever. Leopard Geckos need a dark cave like shelter where they can sleep during the day because they are nocturnal. The male gecko was the thinnest and had a divot down his whole entire back. After not being able to stand it anymore, I made my VERY LAST purchase here and bought these geckos. I took the sickest gecko (the male with the divot down his back) the very next day to the vet and the veterinarian agreed 100% with me that these animals were not cared for properly and were underweight. They also had parasites (pinworms) at a level 3 (on a scale of 1-4). Just yesterday I went into this store again to observe how the animals were being cared for and was not surprised when I found other Leopard Geckos in the same condition. Other animals were also nearly out of water and had cages full of poop. It is disgusting and inhumane. Something needs to be done. Please do not shop here for anything. The best thing you can do is to not support this business. Animal neglect is serious and should not be supported. It should be stopped. ***The 2 Leopard Geckos are now doing well. They eat like crazy and act like they have never eaten before in their lives (probably because they hardly got any food at the pet store). When I first got them, they had horrible aim when it came to catching worms and crickets. Now they are much more accurate and are actually putting on some weight. I have seen a reduction in the size of the divot in the male's back. There has an incredible increase in the amount of activity from both geckos (at the pet store I honestly did not see them move once). Mealworms are always offered in a dish and crickets are made available nearly everyday. The geckos also get the proper amount of calcium and humidity and are soaked after shedding to make sure all skin has been removed from sensitive areas such as toes. Fresh, clean water is always available and is changed at least once a day. They are on terrarium carpet which gets changed once a week. Poop is cleaned out as soon as it is seen (usually within the hour it has been left). Two dark shelters are available in the tank (one for each gecko). Both geckos have received proper medication to eliminate the pinworms and will be rechecked very soon to make sure the pinworms are indeed gone. I am happy to say that the health and happiness of these Leopard Geckos has greatly improved and will continue to improve and be closely monitored in my care.*** If you have any questions for me please do not hesitate to respond and ask me. I have taken my daughter here on many occasions to visit the animals. I have really never felt quit right about the care the animals receive. I also get the feeling the dogs are from puppy mills. I don't know this for sure but I can tell you this.. I am utterly disgusted with the one fish I picked up there 3.5 weeks ago. I have had an immaculate 50 gallon fish take for 1.5 years. All the fish have flourished happily. They grew very big and beautiful. All of my fish came from Petco. When I decided to add a pleco to the tank to clean up some of the algae on the decorations and bottom debris I found one at Northwest seed and pet. In two weeks my 2 large Blood parrot fish began to show signs of stress or something else? I spoke with a Petco employee who advised me that it sounds like "gill" disease. My fish's gills became red. They sank to the bottom and refused to eat. I began treatment on a Friday. Four days later $ 175.00 in fish were all dead. I cannot prove this fish from NW seed and pet was the reason for the illness. But I do find it disturbing that my tank was healthy for a year and a half then suddenly every fish died a slow agonizing death. You make your own opinion. They carry a lot of things for the DIY'ers out there, much like Ace they have an assortment of everything but focused on your pets, animals and garden. I have a small netherland dwarf rabbit and I used to only go to Northwest Seed and Pet for her various supplies (i.e. pellets, hay, treats, etc.). However, I have a had few experiences with some rude customer service and employees telling me completely contradictory things, but I thought to myself it's important to support the small pet shops when I can. But recently, everytime I would go in, they would have different brands of food and hay. They were constantly changing their providers and there was no consistency. And having the spoiled little bunny that I do, different food and hay simply would not do, so I have had to start going to PetSmart, and as much as I love to support the local guy when I can, PetSmart employees are so much more helpful and friendly, not to mention their rewards card that I somehow got wrangled into signing up for, actually saves me a couple dollars on each of my visits. That really adds up for me. I also can always rely on the fact that what I'm purchasing is fresh and consistent. I'm sorry, but I don't think I will be giving much more of my business to Seed and Pet. read more
