I recently took some sewing lessons at the Singer Northwest Sewing Center. In comparison to other sewing classes I've looked up online, these were some of the least expensive, at $90 for four sessions. An extremely practical teacher, Mary instructs briefly, and then turns you loose to create your project, giving you help and advice along the way. Bought my second machine from them today. At the same time, I brought in my first as I thought I put a bobbin case in incorrectly ( and I did as verified by the service guy Dan ). They've been nothing but helpful since my first purchase in 2015. Sure, its a quirky independent business and communication hasn't always been flawless. Floor service pre-covid was sometimes challenging when they are busy; once you get them, they stick with you and all your dumb questions ( i had many ). Sure I've spent more than i wanted to repair the first machine ( which was my fault for abusing it with bad habits ). I have to say though that they beat internet price on the new machine and looked over the old one again without complaint or charging me. I think that's what you get from local independent stores. I also have to say that the one time I shopped for a machine at the other store on Anderson, they did nothing but try to upsell me with a very programmed sales pitch. I left feeling like I'd looked at used cars. SO, I'll take quirky and sometimes inconsistent over that or Joannes any day. read more

I am a big fan of this family owned and operated business. Mary is a sweet-heart. I took a class there in September and learned how to make my very first quilt. The teacher was awesome, unbelievably patient. I ended up with something I never dreamed that I could do. I definitely plan to go back and take more classes. read more

I recently had an old '50s era sewing machine repaired for my Mom as a surprise. Although in the beginning I wasn't satisfied with the repair attempt, David listened to my concerns and without hesitation did an outstanding job making it right. He turned a negative experience into a positive one. My Mom cried when she saw that WE had been able to revive her old machine, and I can't thank David enough for stepping up and doing such a great job. read more

The prices here are high. The unfortunate downside of running a small business that competes against those big super stores like Joanne's or Hancock is that you can't stay competitive in pricing. The fact that these people are still in business should be a testament to their costumer service. They know what they are doing at Northwest Sewing center so if you have a problem or are new to sewing go to them; whatever extra you may pay up front will be money well spent down the road. If you have the experience and you just need to pick up a few necessities maybe it makes more sense to go to the big stores and save a buck. read more

I took my machine in for a tune up, I got it back and it sounds and feels perfect and good as new. The quality and speed with which they did the repair makes me definitely plan to be a repeat customer. Plus the service was totally friendly, which I've noticed is not always the case with sewing machine repair. read more

I bought a machine about 5 years ago. They were nice enough. I went in lately for supplies and the young guy proceeded to organize the desk and complain how other staff didn't keep the desk organized, before he would check me out. Geez, I'm on a schedule. I just never feel like they are interested in me when I'm picking up needles and supplies. A few weeks ago I went in with an acquaintance and was totally floored at how inconsiderate and rude a young girl was. I'm done with this place. After another place said they couldn't fix my sewing machine I took it to Northwest Sewing Center. They were super courteous and were able to fix it on time at a very reasonable price. They were prompt in their communication and didn't try to up-sell me. Everyone was very nice and I would go back in a heartbeat if I needed anything! I have been here several times and they have consistently taken care of everything I need. I bought a free motion foot for quilting and they took the time to show me how to use it. Once, when I was out of town and 60 miles from any sewing machine repair, I called them and the technician was able to explain over the phone what my problem was. Today I had a problem with my machine in the middle of a huge project and they diligently worked with me to get it working again. Now that is customer service! I recently bought a Janome 2212 sewing machine from them. Was told it would handle the heavier uphostery thread and nylon webbing, whick what I got machine for. It would sew the webbing but not with the uphostery thread. Took it back offered to pay a 15 % restocking fee which is common. Would only offer store credit, which I thought was crazy. Why would I want to spend even more money at a store that didn't stand behid their word. Had heard only great things about them reason I went there instead of big box store where returns are stanard. read more

I just phoned to discuss setting an appointment with their service and repair center as they are the only certified Brother dealer in Austin...the lady who answered the phone was rude and basically told me that I should have bought my machine through a dealer instead of through Brother (directly)...even though I am fully covered under the warranty and this is my first (and last) call to their store, ever...now I will not have anything to do with them and I would rather drive to San Antonio or Killeen to get my machine looked at then step into their store if that is how they treat customers. Big loss! I'll make sure to tell all the ladies and gents in my sewing classes to not bother with them after this contact. read more

My daughter and I went to Sew Much More to look at Sergers. What a horrible experience, snubbed beyond belief, just cause I didn't want to spend $2,000.00. We left and went to Northwest Singer. I love the classes, the machines I bought and all the folks who work there. I've learned a lot about sewing and embroidery in the classes. Don't just buy a machine, you need a place like this to help you learn the machine and about sewing. I took my Bernina in for tune-up/repair on 9/6/13, was charged $20 to leave for repair, and told it would be ready in 7-10days. I called at 10 days, not ready. I called at 14 days said would get to it that afternoon. Called today @ 19 days, the guy said yeah can see there is a rush tag on it. I got upset, said what do you mean rush, it was promised to be ready 9 days prior. I said if they were unable to service a Bernina they should have not taken it. I said I did not understand how they could run a business like this. He said come and pick it up, because I got upset with him he would not work on it. read more

I am a brand new at sewing. I have only had 4 classes at ACC. My instructor has a serger and I am really wanting to purchase one. I have been all around looking at prices and for a machine for a totally new beginner that is not hard to use. All of the sewing machine places kept trying to give me a hard sell and more of a machine than I need. I stopped by here on my lunch hour. WOW, was I impressed. I was treated very friendley and they didn't try to sell me the most expensive serger they had. I told them what I was looking for and they showed me a very basic serger. They also let me know they had a used one, if I was interested. They told me about their free lessons, which I would definately need. I told them I would not be purchasing today, just taking a look. They did not treat me any different than I was walking out the door with a machine. They told me I could always find them and to come back anytime. The machines are not over priced. I compared their prices to prices on the internet. I truely believe in supporting our local business and will purchase from them as soon as I am ready. Old, old, OLD sewing machine was cantankerous. Took it in, they quickly diagnosed the problem, told me how to prevent the problem in the future, and even instructed me on how to reconnect an accessory in the cabinet (sight unseen ). So professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. read more

I notice most reviews are several years old. I have had two experiences with them, I should have learned from the first but..... First I took a multi-needle brother embroidery machine for cleaning and repair. I thought it had a major problem but was pleasantly surprised to find only lit had blocked several sensors. I found this out after a month and many unpleasant phone calls, they were never forthcoming with progress or lack thereof. Should have known but as they are one of two Janome authorized repair dealers, 6 weeks ago I took a mc10000 in for repairs, i.e. Timing, skipstitching, improper needle stop positioning. Would barely sew a straight stitch and wouldn't embroider at all. Three weeks, called and machine was next in line for repair. Four weeks called and was told part on order, was called a week later, part was there and would install ready possibly Monday. Called Thursday and had not correctly repaired machine and didn't know when they would have it done. I don't believe there was more than once they returned the calls they promised and they surely eat a lot of lunches as several time whomever we wanted to talk to was out to lunch. Twice now my wife has been told if we didn't like it we could come and pickup the unrepaired machine. I'm sure the Janome head office would be proud of that action but as they aren't available unless your a dealer or repair person I'll never know. I'm glad many people find them cordial and well mannered but if they can't accomplish anything, what the H.... Good is that. We moved from Omaha with the machine so I didn't buy it there which seems to be a priority in the line of repair importance. I'm sorry I took either machine there, sorry I found them in the phone book, sorry Janome considers them a trusted dealer and am now wondering if I will even get the $8000.00 machine back either working or in parts.
