My air conditioning went out this past summer so I called the gentleman that installed it. First not a nice reception on their phone from the lady on the phone, actually about the rudest answer I ever received. I called back and talked to the owner who installed it, he did come by and said he would be back in the next 2 days. So mind you I had been without air conditioning for like 6 days now. I had Mark and Pattie at Awesome do a complete install on a Trane variable speed system last year to replace my struggling, 18 yr old unit that was in the house when I bought it. Not only did their quote come in 30% lower than an equivalent unit from a competing company, but they were able to get me scheduled quickly - in August, no less - and got the job done quickly and professionally. Fast forward to the present, and I started having some problems with the touch-screen thermostat that would shut the system down, usually in the hottest part of the day. Mark walked me through rebooting the system over the phone that evening which got me up and running, but when it failed again a couple of weeks later they got me on the schedule for the very next day, brought parts with them that they might potentially need, diagnosed the problem, and ended up replacing the thermostat under warranty. They had the system back working again within an hour of arrival. We highly recommend Awesome Air, Mark is very knowledgeable and fair. Our AC unit was 15 years old and the original builder unit. Mark has kept this unit going but it was time for a new one. Mark and Patti came out at 6:00pm, assessed the unit and we determined a new unit was the best solution. They gave us a quote to replace the AC and furnace as well as fix several problems with the original installation. The next morning at 8:00am the crew was here and had the new unit installed by 5:00pm. This unit was in the attic with a small access in a tight space. The original system did not have the correct return air size so they had to add return air vents. The crew even topped off the Freon in the other 2 units. Have had several issues with our units since install a few years ago - and we discovered several things were not done/installed properly. When I spoke to the owner on one occasion he was immediately angry with me and basically said he wouldn't do anything to help denying any responsibility whatsoever. Not a friendly company to work with. Go elsewhere. Nope, no confusion. I know who I spoke with. You seem to know who I am quite well before saying you haven't heard from me in years (although it was only last summer ago!) I'm actually well aware of how hvac units are maintained and what to do. Look at the next paragraph to know more about the stellar initial work performed by Mark and the Awesome Heating and Air team, but wanted to say upfront that a year after my job Mark has supported me in a very real way. After the recent winter storms, I found that a roofing contractor had removed my furnace vent pipe from the roof exhaust. This creates a dangerous situation and I called Mark for help. I was just asking when they could come out but after talking to me and understanding my level of handy work proficiency, he spent 30 minutes on the phone with me looking at my pictures and sending me information and pictures back to help me understand how I might be able to help myself. It saved me a few hundred dollars. And while I was up there, I decided to change my inline filter and while I was searching for the right product online, I saw and remembered that Mark as a customer service gesture left me 2 replacement filters with my install. I keep having reasons to be happy I chose them for my job. Initial Install: I looked long and hard for a company to help with a failing upstairs AC/Heating unit. My home warranty service company had diagnosed that our downstairs Carrier had a leak in the evaporator. I waited 2 days for a repairman and another 5 days for a quote - all without running AC downstairs. So I contacted mark on May 27 and he responded within 20 minutes and listened as I explained the situation. I wanted a second opinion because the "non-covered" items total way too much for a warranty policy. The team came back a day later with all of the parts and equipment that were needed and laid them out to make sure they were the right pieces. We just had Mark's Awesome team install a new AC unit at our house. I can't say enough about how pleased I am with the overall experience. From the beginning, Mark set himself apart in thoroughly investigating our situation. He told us how we could improve air flow and system efficiency in a straight-forward manner. I had an HVAC system installed by Mark and Pattie at Awesome Air a little less than three years ago that just had an issue in triple digit temperatures of Central Texas. Mark not only reminded me of the labor and parts warranty that was still good, but he also came out promptly within a day of contact, expertly diagnosed the issue with the furnace blower and got it fixed the same day, working after regular hours. In late June 2022, our then-current AC system was about 17 years old and not keeping up with cooling the house so that we knew it was only a matter of time before the AC went out. As a Consumer Reports-type person in mid-June 2022 I had seen that Trane was number 1 in Consumer Reports for both predicted reliability and owner satisfaction. Essentially, their score in my book (the sum of their rankings) was "2" -- a perfect score, and the next lowest score was for an AC company was "8". Then, I looked at ratings for Trane dealers to see who I might want to use. Although there was a closer Trane dealer to our house, that company's rating by their customers was significantly lower than the customer ratings of Awesome Air & Heat Service. Mark and Pattie are not just "Awesome" because that is the name of their company. They are "awesome" in a variety of ways, First is Mark's knowledge of the AC system, the dynamics of the system, and his wanting to make sure that you understand the issues important to you. I learned about the positive air flow of the supply line, and the negative air flow of the return air line. I learned how we had been taxing our previous system by having a very nicely built wooden return air grill that did not allow enough return air to have the system run properly. I learned how we had too high a MERV rating filter in our previous unit that choked the air flow some. It was during the discussion with Mark about MERV ratings and return air flow that we decided to go with a five-inch filter box -- that would accommodate a higher MERV rated filter -- to help us cut down on some of the pollen issues. And, it was during that discussion that Mark made clear that for us to have the warranty protection of Trane, we would need to enlarge the return air vent or add new return air vents. Enlarging the return air plenum in an attic with very little crawl space was challenging, but Mark worked very hard to make sure that we got what was needed for the system and in a way that we were pleased with how it looked and was built. With any project that involves construction-related issues, there will be hiccups. And, this is the second way in which Mark was "awesome". He wants to make sure that you are pleased with what they have done for you, and if there is a problem he wants to fix it. He said that the true measure of a company is not that they be perfect, because no one is, but the measure of a company is how they respond to the issues that naturally arise during the process. Mark is definitely "awesome" in his approach to you. There would be times when you might wish that Mark would cool his jets, but he is trying to address your issues in a timely fashion, and the fire-hose nature of his business in the summer, is that he needs to take care of you now, because of others' emergencies that will occur next week. Mark arrived timely when expected and diagnosed the problem. He worked with Trane to obtain approval for warranty repair. Our portion of the cost (labor and some materials) seemed about "average/reasonable". He kept the project moving so that within a couple of days the new coil was installed. 24 hours later we're still cool and comfortable - so far so good ! Pattie was very pleasant and easy to work with, as she managed some of the "interior" processes (reading the temperature, adjusting the thermostats, etc.). We would use Awesome again. read more

The Awesome Air team came out to save us back in 2015 during a particularly hot summer day when our A/C finally kicked the bucket for the last time. They removed the aging and phased out R-22 unit got us back up and running with a new 5-ton Trane system that has worked like a charm for the last 6 years. (even during the winter storm, the heat pump was literally a life saver and never left us hanging even once throughout that week) A month ago we had them come back out for a routine service checkup and still not a single hiccup after all this time. That shows their install work is top notch, with no Freon leaks or loss of pressure (this is coming from someone who has worked 10+ yrs of industrial refrigeration). To save you the trouble, I'll say that Awesome Air and Heat Service is outstanding, and you absolutely can't do wrong with them. They will make time for you. They are extremely personable. They will tell you simple things you might have missed. They freaking lay down cloth to walk over as to not mess up your flooring. And, most importantly, they make sure the units will blow cold air or hot air as needed. For context, I had them come over to install two new AC units. I honestly am not so flush that I just get two new AC units willy nilly. What happened is that we bought the house and didn't think to look at AC units, which incidentally happened to be over 20 years old. It so happened that both units gave out during the brutal Austin summer. Yeah, not an option to not get new AC units. They gave me a fair quote. I decided to get quotes from others for a sanity check, and they were better/much more competitive. Our workflow was: 1. They came over to take pictures of everything before giving a quote. 2. A few days later, they came over with the new units. 3. While working in the attic in July (hot) without having a heat stroke, they finished taking out the old unit and installed the new unit. 4. I'm enjoying very cold air. The second unit decided to give out later, so they came back a couple weeks later to install the second unit. There were a few minor issues that crept up (not as cold as quickly as I liked; and later I wasn't sure if I was getting hot air during winter). Both times, they didn't attempt to make any excuses to not come out. They asked a few questions in order to triage, and then they and their crew came out ASAP. Random, but the owner's wife loved my dog and was super nice to him. Also one of the installers took pictures of him, to make his girlfriend jealous, since she loved shih-tzu's. My Ac had recently broke and I called two other main companies they gave me ridiculous quotes I then went to the Trane website and found Awesome air. I set up a time with Pattie, and Mark and his helper came out very promptly,they were on time,and were able to service my unit with no complications,and had my unit back to normal at a reasonable price,I even had to run an emergency's and had to leave them in my home and I felt very comfortable leaving them with my belongings. I purchased my Trane system though Mark & Patti at Awesome Air two years ago and so far so good. They included three 2-year check ups with the purchase of the system and he came out as promised last March. I still had a cooling issue with upstairs master bedroom due to the large west-facing windows in that room during the summertime. He suggested adding another 9" duct and quoted me a reasonable price. His workers came out promptly shortly thereafter, installed the additional duct and register vent in my bedroom, and that seemed to fix the problem. Told Mark I'll see him again in a couple of years with my second included check up for my two Trane systems. I recommend Awesome Air. read more

The three main points: Great prompt service, quality evaluation of the situation, and thorough installation work. It was Monday, our AC wouldn't stop running and couldn't get the house below 82 degrees. I called AAHS around 5pm. They had a crew that was in north Austin and heading south. They planned an impromptu stop at my house to take a look at the AC and see if it was something they could fix quickly. I had an AC unit that was at least 7 years old (it was here when I bought the house). It was never a very good AC, but ACs are expensive and I figured we'd stick with it until it decided to die. Well it turns out it decided to die, with some help from the previous owners and perhaps a little from me. The techs checked the system, it was charged fine and ran on the old R22. When they cracked into the "coil", they took photos with a camera and showed me the condition of the coil. It was clogged with dog hair, bugs, etc. Not good. After evaluating the repair options, how much life was expected out of the unit, it became clear that I needed a new AC. The wife and kid were staying at the in-laws because July in Texas is well, hot. I needed AC fast. AAHS was able to schedule me for a Friday morning install, just four days after my initial call. The new AC system is running great! I'll give a more detailed story of the install job, the AC unit, how quiet it is, and hopefully increased energy efficiency after the city inspection and after I go feed the baby (I have to leave the computer and attend to family matters).
