We moved here from another local peds office and love it. Not looking back. The staff here is great, knowledgeable and have a great Instagram account to keep parents up to date on relevant information during the pandemic. I know they do their best to keep on schedule we haven't ever had to wait more than 5-10 min to be seen for our appointment. Note: There's only one stroller /wheelchair access point and that's East from the lake side to enter. The staff will take care of all paperwork and doesn't charge by the piece like our previous office. So so appreciated bc our school sometimes sends forms not all at once so every time we'd pay a fee out of pocket. This office sees it as a part of business as usual and I very much appreciate this as a mother to young children. We love NWCP and will keep coming as long as we are residing in the area. read more

My six-year-old son wasn't feeling good. He had a cold. So he called to talk with a nurse and her name was Allison. She was excellent. Very patient, caring and helpful. Dr Dawn Li is the reason why we are still with NCP. I am surprised there arent more comments about LI because she is absolutely fantastic. We've gone through Weissbluth before and just didnt find the right pediatrician. We couldnt make it work with Dr Unger either. Dr Li is experienced, professional, gives right to the point advices (we had feeding issues etc) -- my only wish we could spend even more time with her at each appointment :) Note that treasure island had closed so there is no free parking, but we havent had issues finding street parking. read more

Their office is also extremely well managed - this is the only doctors office where I haven't had to wait for a long time in the lobby to actually see a nurse or a doctor. My wife and I researched Weissbluth, Streeterville and Northwestern's Childrens Practice (NCP) when trying to decide which pediatrician to choose. During our free pre-natal visit we met with Dr. Leanne Bensko who was recommended to us by friends. During our pre-natal meeting Dr. Bensko was personable, patient, attentive and answered all of our questions with helpful detail. We had very positive meetings at the other pediatrics groups as well and I highly recommend checking them out too but we felt at ease with Dr. Bensko and decided on NCP. We have been visiting Dr. Bensko for 6 months now and have had no issues with the practice thus far. My wife and I never feel rushed by Dr. Bensko during our well being appointments. The desk staff and nurses have been friendly and easy to communicate with. Note that when you call the staff at 1pm (I believe) you will be sent to voicemail as the staff takes their lunch break. We have phoned the weekday nurse hotline for questions and have received call backs the same day, usually within a couple hrs or less of leaving a message. They charge you $50 for weekend nurse calls. For well being visits, you have the opportunity to schedule and see your child's primary care doctor. However for sick visits (drop in only, no appointments), you will see a nurse or the doctor on call. We have only visited during sick hours on a Sunday (Sat and Sunday they open at 10am). Early into our regular well being visits the staff recommended that we arrive early if we ever had to bring our child for a sick visit. We're so glad we took their advice. Just today we went for a sick visit and arrived at 9:40am. There were already two people in line and minutes after our arrival the line grew to five families. By the time we ended our meeting with the doctor the lobby was packed with families. So in short if you need to come to office for a sick child visit and if you are able to arrive before 10am, do it! During our sick visit we saw Dr. Timothy Blegen. Coincidentally he was the doctor who visited our baby in the hospital shortly after birth. Of the three practices I mentioned since each doctor's office practiced at Northwestern Memorial, one of their staff members will come by to examine your baby 1-2 days into the birth. During our sick visit, we found Dr. Blegen to have a good bedside manner and was patient in answering our questions. NCP is definitely worth checking out. The office is large, lots of experienced/pleasant staff. Parking: $12 validated by the office or spend $10 at the first floor grocery store Tresure Island and parking is free. read more

I really want to thanks to the Northwestern Children's Practice team especially Dr. Goldstein and his nurse. As in this difficult time of COVID-19, they arranged the home visit wellness check up and vaccines appointment for my newborn baby daughter so that we can safely stay at home and don't need to take the risk going out. We've been coming to NCP for almost three years now since our daughter was born, and my only wish is that she can continue to be a patient here well into her adulthood because this place is just so great! My family and I don't live in Streeterville--as a matter of fact we live about 3 miles away, but we make the trek here for bi-anuual visits/check-ups because we can't imagine trusting out daughter's health in anyone else's hands. Dr. Unger is her primary physician, and she's fabulous. Dr. Unger not only looks out for her patients, she challenges parents to be better--always offering sage advice. We are first-time parents who don't have a clue how this works, but Dr. Unger takes the time to educate us how we can better do our jobs--definitely not in an insulting way but in an encouraging way. As long as you are open to her ideas and input, she could be a compatible match for you. The nursing staff is always in a positive mood as well. The facility itself makes me feel happy with all of the warm colors and different themed exam rooms. Just when I think that I've been into all of them already, a find myself in a new room every time. I think the play area in the lobby is great. The only thing I don't like about getting here is the in-building parking garage--the spots are tight #cityproblems. On a few occasions I've had to park in other buildings. Parking fee is a bit pricey. If you plan to shop at Treasure Island downstairs, you can get a small discount. We don't come often enough for the parking fee to deter our decision though. read more

We are new patients of NCP, and I'm sorry my daughter went 2 years at any other pediatrician! Dr. Bensko is amazing, the staff is great, and their billing is super easy. Their rooms all have a different theme and are nicely decorated. Although we don't live in Streeterville, we make the trek because we love the atmosphere and the staff. My daughter recently had her ears pierced here after getting some vaccinations and it was worth every cent. The nurse was kind and engaging and my daughter liked her very much. She walked us through the process and spoke to her as she did it, and my daughter didn't even cry! Ever since we switched to NCP from UIC, my daughter hasn't cried when she gets her shots, hemoglobin tested or when we walk into the office?! It's awesome and my husband and I are convinced it's because the staff speaks to her and tells her what they're going to do before they do it. It's amazing what a little communication from a doctor does to a toddler. Thank you, we appreciate you treating our child like a person and not just a baby :) The only thing I keep forgetting until I get there, because the scale is in the main hallway of the rooms, bring a blanket or sweater to put over baby when you take them to get measured and weighed. read more

I enjoy the services this practice has given to my family. All the medical staff is graciously humble and friendly. The waiting room is kid and adult friendly with plenty of seating while you wait for your name to be called. For the past few times I was there, the service is impeccable, no long wait times in the waiting or in the patient room. I enjoy coming here and so does my family. Parking outside maybe tricky but it really depends on the time you arrive. There are plenty of parking lots around the area but I like the street parking. read more

I don't write many Yelp reviews anymore. But I do still watch Yelp, and am concerned that this, my kids' practice, has recently picked up some one star reviews that seem at best, misleading, and at worst, patently false. My kids, twin boys age 5, see Doctor Scott Goldstein primarily, and Dr. Aaron King in a pinch. I have met at least two other doctors in the practice, and both came across as dedicated and competent professionals. Ironically, I actually moved my boys here from a truly awful pediatrician, so I have first hand experience of the characteristics of a "one star" doctor. A "one star" practice doesn't manage your child's whole health. A doctor in a "one star" practice doesn't refer you to the right people when you have a child with special medical needs. And a "one star" doctor doesn't bother to communicate with all those confusing specialists and then translate it back to you. Scott Goldstein is a "five star" doctor in a "five star" practice, and he does all of those things that my child's old doctor did not. As for the snively nosed, kids with fevers, kids with stomach flu, kid swallowed a lego typical kid stuff? He does that just fine also. Further, this practice as a whole does not mess around when it comes to modern medicine. They do not take kids who are not up to date on their vaccinations (and don't agree to catch up), so I know that my children will not be exposed to preventable diseases at this practice. So, my advice to new parents seeking a pediatric practice is as follows. Do not look for the practice that answers the phone the fastest. Or the practice that can get you in to see them the fastest. Or the one with that wins the "nicest nurse" contest. Or the one with the most convenient parking. Or even the one with the slick side gig taking kickbacks from drug companies for recommending their vitamin drops. And, even though I disagree with the bedside manner comment from another reviewer, if I have to I will trade bedside manner for medical competence any day of the week. My advice, as a parent of a child with multiple medical needs, is to pick the practice that is the best at doing the doctoring - or medicine, as it is more commonly known. And this is the place that is best at the doctor bit. Trust me - I have travelled the country with my child, and have met well over a dozen pediatric doctors at this point - this practice knows its stuff. To conclude, caring for a child with a rare disorder means navigating a medical minefield of specialists. Dr. Goldstein has made sense of the confusing maze of mines for me. My child and I are off to the Mayo clinic in a few weeks and we will probably meet another dozen pediatric specialists, but I go there with the confidence that Dr. Goldstein has my child's back for what is sure to another bewildering and exhausting process. I wholeheartedly recommend this practice. read more

Incredible practice-we absolutely LOVE our doctor, Dr. Marc Weissbluth. I can't wave enough about him and all my other "mommy friends" are probably sick of me talking him up like he's the KING but he seriously is. After many attempts of my husband and I trying to sleep train our son alone, we finally gave in the what we thought was a ridiculous method (eg. putting him to bed by 5:30, letting him cry it out for 3 days, having him nap ONLY in the crib). We thought we could get around it but our lives were being taken over by the lack of sleep both our son was getting and us as new parents. We saw Dr. Weissbluth and within 3 days our lives completely changed for the better. Both our children are incredible sleepers and we are more confident parents because of Dr. Weissbluth. His support, understanding and expertise make us coming back to him, even though we now live in the suburbs. We have had to see other doctors in this practice as well and they have all been wonderful. The nurses are great too and always attentive, never rushing us out like a previous practice we were part of. They truly care about their patients and understand the needs of parents with small kids. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! read more

We absolutely LOVE The Northwestern Children's Practice!!! Our longest wait time was maybe 15 minutes and that was the day that we just walked in without an appointment. Other than that we have NEVER waited. The Friday breastfeeding/sleep meetings were an absolute lifesaver!!! Not only did Dr. Marc Weissbluth give me guidance and encouragement, I also met some amazing mom's and have made life long friendships! The most important reason why we love this practice is because of Dr. Daniel Weissbluth! We have never seen a doctor care so much about us and our son's needs. He listens to everything we ask/say. No matter what the concern is (big or small) he takes it seriously and helps us with a solution. This first year has been a roller coaster and we are so happy that we have such a GREAT doctor by our side!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PRACTICE!!! read more

I'm writing this review to help suppress my guilt over leaving because I LOVE NCP! We started with Dr. Unger 5 years ago and she was fantastic. Very kind and patient and friendly. She works shorter hours, so we ended up switching to Dr. Bensko, who we also adore. She's friendly and attentive and patient. I've never felt rushed with either doctor (or with Dr. King, who we've seen once). Dr. Bensko has young kids of her own, so I always felt like she really understood parenting challenges. She always had helpful advice when asked, but also offered sympathy and compassion when we aren't always able to follow her advice. (Like how in the world does a family with two working parents manage to have a family dinner every night???) Anyway, the doctors, nurses, staff and waiting room are all awesome! We're leaving the practice ONLY because a different (and also highly recommended) pediatrician opened a practice 2 blocks from our house. With three kids and no car, the location is just too convenient to pass up. But we'll miss NCP! read more

I have been taking my 6 month old son to NCP since he was born and I have only encountered top level service and medical advice from the doctors and nurses. We have seen Dr King and Dr Blegen and they have always been patient and helpful with our sons vaccinations and general questions we throw at them. We have had to visit NCP for an emergency visit on two occasions without an appointment and we still received the same level of exceptional service and medical attention. On our first unscheduled appointment, we dealt with a very knowledgeable nurse who was able to diagnose our sons croup and tell us how to treat it. Both my wife and I are delighted with NCP and would gladly recommend it to others. read more

He answers our questions and the nursing staff that Has called back to answer my questions couldn't be nicer. Landmark review I finally got to see our son's pediatrician Dawn Li at the Children's practice which is located right across from lake michigan. I was surprised to find that we did not have to wait long to get into the room. I believe this is based on when you make your appointment, probably earlier the better. Afterwards they ask that you take the clothes off your baby and bring them to the weigh and measuring station in the center of the office which is a bit weird, but it was rather quick. We went back in the room and soon enough our physician came in. Dr. Li exhibits great bedside manner, patience, gentle with the baby, hits the high points, and answers all questions. the nurse came in after and gave the shots and soon we were out the door already. You never feel rush which is great. All and all good experience, however when we were leaving there was tons of people in the waiting room so make your appointment earlier The only con I read is the service fee of calling to talk with a physician. 25 dollars seems like a lot to talk with a physician.... Today I am finally free of NWCP! I feel better than I have in months! As much as I'd like to go into all the reasons I dislike this practice I think the other one-star reviews are spot on and I would rather spare myself the stress of thinking about how they made my life, and the life of my child & husband miserable for the first six months of his life. I will say that if you choose this practice and then dislike it as we did, it will be impossible to get your medical records transferred so hang onto everything they give you and always get the "school record" of your child's shots so you can just jump ship when you like. I don't think there's any real malice here, just total incompetence. read more

My husband and I have been taking our children to see Dr. Unger for almost a year now. Our doctor, the nurses, and office staff have always been helpful, courteous, and informative. Dr. Unger is thorough during her medical examinations and makes time for any questions that we might have. During a time when our baby was experiencing a painful skin condition, Dr. Unger even followed up with personal phone calls to check on our child's progress and treatment plan. I don't have kids... or children but if I did you can bet your bottom dollar I would use The Northwestern Children's Practice. I think they have really turned a corner since Dr. Weissbluth's departure and are definitely the best option in Chicagoland. When calling doctor's offices I am accustomed to long hold times and corny background music, but I was extremely impressed when I called today and the line was answered before I even finished dialing the number; now that is service I have not experienced outside of a Michelin three star restaurant! Such a great team of doctors and staff at this practice with impeccable bedside manner. They show patience with their patients and source the freshest vaccines on the market; highly recommend! read more

I've taken my sons to this practice for almost 18 years and have seen staffers come and go. Overall, it's been a good experience: very good, mostly; occasionally bad. Marc and Dan Weissbluth are both gone, and my oldest prefers Dan so we moved to his practice. My youngest, who has a developmental issue, is seen (mostly) by Amy Manion, whom I've known all these years and who is just great. Sharma and Unger are good. Goldstein and King are also good. Our experiences with Hirsch have been uniformly awful. And the nurses? Overall, they're good. Nancy Nelson, in particular, is great and is a fabulous lactation consultant. That said, some of the nurses can be fairly cranky, especially later in the day. And the whole "you can't hold your kid during a shot" business that I get from them almost every time I bring my kid for a vaccine? Nonsense; I just overrule them. What I've liked about the practice over the years is their attention to my oldest's special health issues and my youngest's developmental issues and the practice's willingness to recommend outside specialists. This has been very helpful; they know when it's time to make a referral; they are familiar with the landscape of specialists and know who to recommend. In any large pediatric practice, there will be quality variations. Parents can easily feel intimidated, especially if they have little experience with the medical-industrial complex or are new, anxious parents. Always come armed with questions; require respectful responses. This is a parent's job at any practice. Overall, NCP is high quality and its employees are understanding and compassionate. They do very fine follow-up work for the most part as well. Yeah, there's the occasional outlier and people have bad days--and the front desk staff seem fairly unenthused about their jobs. But from my experience of 18 years of schlepping kids to doctors, ERs, specialists, therapists, and so on, NCP rates well. And let's face it--being able to take your sick kid to the doctor, and not the ER, on a Saturday or Sunday is nothing short of miraculous. read more

Terrific practice! Been coming here since our daughter's birth a little over 2 years and have been very happy with her care. Dr Goldstein has become our primary doc and we love him! He's always very patient and gives our daughter time to warm up (even checks her bear's heart and ears first ;)). Very thorough and good with parents/questions as well. Really like the nurses and other docs we've had too (Drs Hirsch & King we've seen more than a couple times). Have nurses that regularly answer the phone or get back to you quickly when they cannot, a huge advantage for first time parents who are new to this and worry! Their website is helpful. Sick hours are convenient. As first time parents you can schedule an appt to meet with a few docs before hospital/delivery. They were prompt/great each day in hospital and every appt since. Never had any billing issues. Highly recommend! read more

We have been using NWCP for 15 months (our daughter is 15 months old). From our pre-natal consultation to now we have been very impressed with the physicians and nurses we have seen. We primarily see Dr. Goldstein, who is wonderful, but on sick visits we've met some of the other staff. Our scheduled appointments have all started within 5-10 minutes of the appointment time, and we've never waited more than 20 minutes when we came to the "first come first serve" sick hours (which are phenomenal and prevent you from rushing to get a next day appointment when your child starts acting sick at 5 pm the evening before). The $25 fee to speak with a physician after-hours is annoying, but I get the feeling it is prevent people from abusing the on-call doctor. The trade off, in my opinion, is that they have sick hours 7 days a week so you always know you can come in and see someone. read more

We have 3 children, all of whom have been seen here for the last 5 years. As physicians ourselves, my husband and I have been repeatedly frustrated with this pediatric practice and will finally be transferring our children's care elsewhere. This has been our experience: (1) The staff at the front desk usually seems depressed. One woman ahead of me during check-in said it in just a few words, "Really? No hello, no good morning? Just, 'Your co-pay is $20.'" I'd also like to add here that they're not always helpful. I brought proof of insurance in the form of a letter from our employer's HR department until our cards were received in the mail, but the woman at the front desk absolutely refused to even glance at it saying it wasn't valid. (2) Although their website sells them as "The Child's Health Advocates," I find that very hard to believe. When my 2 year old broke his arm, nobody there would help me schedule an orthopedic appointment (despite my asking), even though I'd already called 3 different orthopedic practices who had no openings for 3 weeks. We eventually called a friend who called THEIR pediatrician for a reference. When my 5 month old was in the ICU for 5 days, we were only able to see a nurse practitioner for my follow-up outpatient appointment . In fact, he was not doing well for 3 months (4 office visits, 3 ER visits, 2 hospitalizations), and because most of our visits were acute, we only saw NPs that entire time. Don't get me wrong. I think NPs are great, but when your newborn is that sick, it shouldn't be so hard to get in to see an MD. (3) Validated valet parking, a short 2 blocks south of the practice, is $10. But I've waited over half an hour for my car to be brought to me before. Not cool if you've got a newborn with respiratory issues, and it's cold outside. (4) I agree with another reviewer. Dr. Weissbluth (senior) might be well known for his books, but he has never been anything but rude and condescending to us in the two encounters we've had with him. You're better off seeing his son who just started at the practice. (5) In trying to get my kids' records sent our new pediatrician, I've called and left 3 messages with no word back. I finally just picked them up myself for a $15 fee. (6) On the plus side for this place though, the assistants who give shots are really good. They generally run on time, and the physicians are decent too ... if you can get in to see them. It's probably not a bad choice if you have kids in good health and don't mind seeing different physicians or NPs each visit. read more

We started taking our son to Northwestern Children's Practice over a year ago, and at first we were happy. However, this fall their practice proved to be a true nightmare. My son has been sick (runny nose, cough, fevers) for 4 months, and during this time we made 4 separate visits to this practice, and in all this time no one gave us more than a shrug of the shoulder. Weissbluth himself said "it's just allergies" and sent us home - no Rx's, no follow-up for allergies, nothing. During one visit, I was even 'dressed down' by Dr. Weissbluth for 'not being firm enough' with my frightened 2-year-old - who was scared because Weissbluth grabbed him harshly, and expected me to do the same, and did not try to calm him down at all! We just saw a NEW doctor, where they did NOT scare him, grab him, etc. I remarked to my husband that they 'observed and approached him as though he was a wild animal'. Once they gained his trust, they were able to look in his eyes, ears, nose, mouth, all without crying, tears, fear, etc. They were truly kind and patient towards him. The new office ordered blood tests and X-rays, and was diagnosed with a serious sinus infection, an exact diagnosis of his allergies so we know WHAT he's allergic to, and was also diagnosed with acid reflux (which can cause a long-term, wet cough), and were given Rx's for all of the above!! Dr. Weissbluth may be famous, and the book he wrote is good - but by no means does this mean he's a good doctor. My son's issues were completely ignored by him and his other doctors, and my son suffered needlessly as a result. DO NOT JOIN THIS PRACTICE! They're already stuffed with patients, and in my opinion they do not take the time to care for your child. read more

I've been going to this practice for seven years since my daughter was born. And I have to agree that since Dr. Weissbluth retired the office is a mess. Every doctor or nurse practitioner I have ever worked with here has been excellent. But it is IMPOSSIBLE to get anyone in this practice to answer the phone. I can't make an appointment online until after I speak to a live person and as of right now I have been on hold for over 44 minutes!!!! Since I spent so much time on hold, I had time to call Dr. Daniel Weissbluth's office and make an appointment for today. I wonder how many phone calls it will take to get my daughter's medical records out of The Northwestern Childrens' Practice! I even tried pressing one to leave a message and it just kept going through the loop saying thank you for your patience. Good-Bye NWCP. read more

The doctors are very helpful and nice, but the office staff has very much to be desired. 3 times over the course of the 6 years they were the doctors for my 3 children I had a credit in one account and money owed in another account. I asked how I can have 2 separate accounts when we are one household, and the answer was that they create accounts for each child. They had a really hard time fixing the problem. read more

We found NWCP in 2016 after moving to Chicago with a 4 year old and one on the way. When I visited different practices this one just gave a completely different vibe. They do not run their practice like factory where they want to see max number of patients per day...they are part of your parenting team and you feel as if the well-being of their patients is the most important thing to them. And while we see primarily two different physicians, we have seen just about every physician and NP at NWCP and love them all. If you were to ask our kids, they would tell you the same thing and they really notice and appreciate that they are spoken to directly at appointments instead of just asking the adult for all of the info. The doctors, NPs and staff also don't take themselves too seriously even if what they do is serious business. Their social media serves to entertain and inform and really takes the intimidation factor out of asking the doctor questions about different topics. We have never had a negative experience at NWCP and never hesitate to recommend them. read more

We have been taking our son to this practice since he was born (he's now 18 months) and have had a great experience. We see Dr. Goldstein, and he is always on time with well-child visits. When we've had injuries come up, the nurse is very quick to call back and give us assistance (either over the phone or in person if we have to come in). This practice is great. Our son's pediatrician is Dr. Arron King, who is absolutely wonderful and really does all he can to make kids comfortable. We have seen other doctor's in the office for sick visits, and have been happy. All the nurses and doctors we've seen have been very personable and professional. The receptionists are not the most friendly or helpful, but that doesn't bother me that much (but it is the reason I took off a star). The 7-days-a-week sick visits without an appt (at designated times) is one of my favorite things about this practice - being a first time mom, it's great to know you can always bring your child in, even on weekends, if he's sick. Dr blegen is the most amazing doctor! He always gets back to me very promptly, is very very caring, takes his time with us, and never makes a question feel like it's not important. We moved our children from another practice close by which was horrible to this one to see dr Unger, who is also nice, but dr blegen is on another level of being a fantastic pediatrician and excellent in communication. I would hands doesn't recommend him to anyone looking for a caring pediatrician!! read more

We switched our insurance so that Dr. Weissbluth could be our pediatrician--boy was it worth it! The staff are very friendly and responsive. I always get a call back from a nurse promptly when I have questions. Haven't had any problems scheduling appointments for check-ups, and best of all, the practice has regular sick child hours with no appointment necessary. I waited for over an hour regularly at my old pediatrician (with a newborn, no less). Haven't had to wait more than 10 minutes here. Can't say enough about this group--as a first time parent, their professionalism and responsiveness have been priceless. read more

As a father of four children, I appreciate great medical care, a comforting office presence, and a warm atmosphere where people know us and offer a personal touch. This practice has always provided those things to me and my family. I do not typically write Yelp reviews (usually only when horrified, angry or exceptionally pleased). I am writing because this is MY family's practice and I am an educated consumer: -- my children get exceptional care here --my wife and I get to talk to warm, patient practitioners and staff and share our concerns --they know my family and treat us like family --the interactions that I witness while at NWCP are positive, engaging events where people are smiling and reassured and content There is a lot of nonsense posted here. I realize that it is impossible to vet every review, and no practice is perfect. Dr. Weissbluth (senior) seemed like a good man and we enjoyed his guidance with sleep training. He did not leave the practice-- he retired. His son briefly joined the practice and then left to start his own shop. We never saw the junior Weissbluth and cannot comment on his competence or bedside manner. We have seen the rest of the doctors and nurses who work at NWCP over the past many years and we love the practice. Our kids like going to see the doctor. They have the typical "small town" relationship with their pediatricians that my wife and I did growing up. They are warm, intelligent people who love children and love their job and craft. They appear to adore my children and that makes me happy. The care we've received from the mundane school physical to more acute illnesses has been wonderful. I still remember Dr. Li calling daily (for 3 days!) just to check in after a scary pneumonia in our oldest child. This is a practice that has a long history of caring deeply about the community in which they live and serve. You won't find a better practice in Chicago. End of story. read more
