I am sharing the facts about my experience with this business: I bought this car two days ago. I…read morewas excited about it, at first. There are two open recalls on it. When I looked into the recalls on Kelly Blue Book I found out that one recall is very serious. One recall report from 2023 for my exact year and model, stated that the engine could suddenly seize and catch fire causing an unexpected crash and/ or injury. I was very shocked upon finding out this information about my new car, so I went down to Roy's to inform them. At first, they did not take me seriously and tried to down play the situation. Together we called an Acura dealership down south, who confirmed exactly what I had found on KBB. Roy's knew of the recall, but I was told that because there wasn't a local dealership who could fix it, thet decided not to get it taken care of. They did the their own inspection, regular maintenance and test drives on the car and that's it. BUT, what they didn't know is that the engine needs repairs or even possible replacement! They said because there was no stop sale on it, they thought it was ok to sell. It took me maybe 5 mins to do what they could have done right in the first place. Even though they let me return the car, canceled our contract and gave me a full refund of my down payment, this is a moral issue. They did not do their due diligence in making sure that this vehicle was safe to sell. I have four kids whom I dearly love. At any given time my family and others on the road, could have gotten seriously hurt or killed in a car accident fire, and that is not ok! All because it was inconvenient for Roy's to do their job correctly. This is very disappointing and now makes it hard for me to trust other used car dealerships! DO BETTER ROYS! Update: upon further investigating my situation with Roy's family business, I have discovered that my car actually does have a stop sale on it. Which Roy's was unaware of. I know this because their one claim that they had done nothing wrong because there wasn't a stop sale, which is incorrect, afterall! Obviously they do not do their homework on the used vehicles that they buy to resell to the innocent victims of our community. Please see photos . Please save yourself and your family the headache, hassle, disrespectful treatment and possible life threatening accident, that you can get when you buy a car from Roy's in Humboldt County, CA.

Look up how many miles the vehicle should last that you want and really think about the life that's left in it. Just tips to be safe when purchasing from anywhere, but esp. here. I notified them of what I found and they know they're gouging. This vehicle on its last legs, already gone past how much it should last, and they're asking that much over KBB value. Beware. Update: they're now also harassing me even though I looked up the KBB value with everything included myself. 01/15/2022 still messaging me. Price gouging and harassment. They haven't left me alone for a month and are sending extremely volatile emails when I've sent them the information I found in a car they're charging 5k more for what Kbb values it as. They sent me a weird document but I did the KBB value itself and the miles at 360k brings the value down significantly. If you look at the bottom, you will see the Kelly Blue Book endorsement as well. So implying that the information is "false" is just wrong. All your assumptions based on what you did or didn't see on carfax are ignorant as well because a lot of shops don't even report to Carfax. Information not being on the carfax is not proof that it wasn't performed. If you were civil and just asked for it, we would have happily sent you our extensive shop report. As far as you not understanding the "POINT" of me messaging you back, let me explain. An online shopper made a mistake when estimating a KBB on one of our vehicles. She then took the extra step to erroneously put out a bad review based on this information. If you ever took the time to come down and look at the vehicle or talk to any of our reps in person, instead of just being an online troll, you would have seen how wrong you are about Roy's and our vehicles. Our small business has about 20 employees and every single one of them bust their butts to maintain an excellent reputation and while doing so uses that reputation to feed their families. So when someone makes a mistake and feels the need to slander us based on that mistake, it's worth it to go out of my way to try and correct the error. At this point, based on your initial response, I don't expect you to be reasonable or fix the erroneous review. It's a sad truth that there are people in the world that cannot be reasoned with. I find solace in the fact that Roy's will be fine with or without your review correction. Based on your very toxic response with your review and to my reasonable first message, you aren't a very happy person anyways. The universe seems to always find a way to even things out in this way. Happy New Year Victoria (or --- your cowardly internet troll alias). It comforts me to know that you will get exactly what you deserve from this life.

The next day I find out my credit had been ran seven times, and again by gm, who had already offered me a loan... so I made an appt. went in two days later in person i said, "look I'm a year out of a 3 year bankruptcy, and I've worked tirelessly to get my credit score back over 700. I have a letter here from GM. I've been approved for 36k or less so rather than shop around for a loan I'd rather take this offer while you have a few cars that fit the bill." I was told by my salesman who was green AF, that's not how it works here, the finance guy makes all those decisions. I was told I could not speak to him at all. I feel like I should have walked right then, but they had the exact car I was looking for so, i said lets look at what you can do. I filled out some forms, which was odd, because they had already run my credit 7 times, but i assumed they knew what they were doing. they ran my credit to 6 loan companies and gm... again...all dinging off on my phone as it was happening. As I'm literally showing the sales rep saying wtf you guys just dinged my credit 14 times in three days when I already came with loan approval from gm in hand? this was not a prequal letter, it was a loan approval. I later brought this up to the finance guy who I was not allowed to speak with for an hour and he comes out and says "we'll we got you approved with GM" he said "Don't worry your score will drop like a rock but anyone important will know you were shopping for a car" - ok d.b. we'll my score went from 730 to 598 in 1 week because I have too many credit enquiries, and I came prepared to not have this happen. You guys need to listen to your customers, as you work for us remember? meanwhile the car wasn't detailed and there are quite a few spots with window sticker type sticky that needs to be professionally cleaned and buffed off. So they said, come by on Sat. So I did... But it turns out the detail guy wasn't in, and wasn't going to be. so I've been told now they will detail my car, and buff that sht out when the new plates come in, whenever that is. So I have a brand new car that desperately needs a wash and detail, and they owe me one... Judging by the reviews Im not sure if i should even let you guys service my vehicle which is free under the warranty I paid extra for... I'm the greatest customer ever, easy going, come with all the resources to get the job going, I don't ask much, I'm never rude, and I just want to be treated fairly.. I'm buying the first new car in my entire life, it should be a great and fulfilling experience. I should walk away excited, and happy as its the f#$king american dream!. but the only taste I have in my mouth is I shouldn't have bought here... 2 stars for my kick a$$ Chevy!! 1 because Hunter tried his very best...

As time went on, low gas mileage and payments helped decided on a Subaru Outback, decent gas mileage and could still get me everywhere. I bought a 2006 Subaru Out 2.5xt. For the three months that I had it, it was in their shop. The first drive over the 299 it didn't even make it to Lord Ellis Summit. First, they said spark plugs, replaced those and it was still was running horribly. Smoking, getting 15 mpg. Then I found out it required premium gas, they told me this car required no special maintenance. I would not have boughten this car if I knew it needed premium gas. They blew off my numerous phone calls about how horribly it was running until I showed up with it smoking. Turned out the car had a hole in the boot to the turbo, (their mechanics couldn't figure it out, so it went to McCrea) then some dried and cracked hoses. Supposedly they fixed it. It was driven to Oakland and back. Started doing the same thing as soon as we got into Fortuna: no power uphill and rough sounding. continued to get so bad I could barely drive from Samoa to Eureka. Took it back to them. Turned out to be some coil. My dad picked it up. It started acting up again. Turned out to be the timing belt tensioner and a faulting water pump. I ended up having to return the car because of all these problems that were constant for three months. I missed work and time to look at new housing out of the area because I didn't have a car for three months. This was the worst car buying experience ever. From them buying my truck back at such a low price to the overpriced falling apart Subaru. Yes, they paid for it, only after I called them out, they only believed me until I showed up with a smoking car. And I have NEVER seen a car come back so many times from a shop and had it run WORSE then it came it.

I was very concerned about getting a lemon or taken advantage of, but I needed a reliable car. I received wonderful service at Harper Motors even though I was purchasing a used vehicle. The staff were patient, informative and I never felt pressured to close a quick deal. I was very happy with my selection of a 2022 Toyota Corolla. The vehicle had been in a minor accident and the Carfax was provided. After several months, the repair from the accident did not hold properly. I felt sick thinking I was stuck with a $2,000.00 fix (quoted by a local repair shop). I didn't know how Harper Motors would respond but I thought it was worth contacting them before getting the repair done. They were incredible. They set up the work with a repair shop they use and the issue was resolved free of charge for me. I am so impressed with their willingness to back their product. I only got one key with the car and was very concerned about losing it. I paid the $300.00 plus price and ordered a key/fob through Toyota. The day I had the car repaired, I also had an appointment to get my new key programmed. While at Toyota, they asked if I also wanted a complimentary inspection of the car. I agreed and they discovered that the high beam on the passenger side was not working. This is where the impact from the accident had been. I stopped by Harper Motors to see if they would deal with the light issue. Again, I was shocked. The manager was immediately involved and said that it was a serious safety issue for me. They talked to their service department and found that it wasn't a simple fix, such as a bulb replacement. The whole light fixture had to be replaced. I felt that sick feeling again that they might say it was on me to get it fixed. That was not the case. They ordered the light, had me schedule with their repair shop to get the light installed. The bumper that was just fixed from the Carfax accident had to be removed. They were not irritated at all. The car is in great condition and I am very thankful for the professionalism of the Harper Motors staff. Note: It appears that the initial repair work on the car was not done by Harper Motors, but they made it good.

Regardless of the circumstances, speaking negatively about a customer in front of others is unprofessional and reflects poorly on the business. Buying a car is already a challenging process, and customers should feel respected throughout the experience. When I presented legitimate comparable vehicles to support my negotiation, my concerns were dismissed with suggestions that the vehicles might have different specifications, despite the similarities being clear. It felt more like an attempt to avoid a fair discussion than to provide transparent information. My salesperson, Joey, seemed hardworking and polite Overall, the experience lacked the professionalism and customer service I expect when making a significant purchase. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this dealership.

I have 2 cars both were being serviced at Leon's and for regular service I liked them, good customer experience up front. However, I took my 95 Toyota Land Cruiser in with 2 issues a suspected fuel leak (we could smell fuel in the garage when you opened the door) and it was running rough, more so when it was cold. Leon's looked at these problems and said they could not find either one. About the same time I took my 2001 Subaru Outback to them about an overheating problem and the guy from the shop came back with a big list of repairs to fix the problem even though I told him this car was a car I was not going to pay lots of money to repair. So with no solution for either car I looked for and found a shop in Arcata. The Land Cruiser went in first. On the first day he dropped the fuel tank and found that the line to the emergency break had worn a hole in the top of the fuel tank and it was leaking. He fixed it and looked for the other problem, it took him a bit longer but not much and he found the number 5 spark plug cable was periodically arcing to the exhaust pipes. So here is the significance of that, Leon's let me drive the car out of there shop with an active fuel leek and an active ignition source should the fuel get close to it. I was not pleased. Then I took the Subaru to the same shop in Arcata and in less than a day he said he found the connector to one of the fans that go on when the radiator gets too hot was not securely connected. Infer what you want from this but one thing is for sure Leon's should have caught the loose connector. Both cars now seem to be running just fine. So why did I not rate them a 1? Well initially I rated them much higher. When I came here for oil changes and tuneups the customer service at the front desk was great and this is where most auto repair shops drop the ball. I assumed that the work in the back followed the same pattern, but this turned out to be a bad assumption. So they could be good for regular maintenance, but I would not go there for anything tricky.

I immediately put the appointment into my phone with alerts, but when I showed up, they had me down for the following week. Honestly, I have a reputation for being in the right place, early, like I was that day. Maybe it was my rare mistake, maybe it was theirs, or maybe just a simple miscommunication - fine, moving on - wasn't upset about it, demanding, or anything. The good part was that the owner checked with the foreman who said they could squeeze me in. Very nice, unexpected, and I thanked her. Then things went off the rails. She said no time for an oil change, which I was fine with. However, I said my coolant was a little over-filled and power steering fluid was low. She got snippy with me in a bad way saying she was already squeezing me in. I wasn't demanding anything, and it was a 5 minute job. If she had politely explained that it wouldn't be possible today, I would have accepted it, no problem. I said "sorry, it was just a question." She snatched the paperwork away, grinned at me in a angry way and asked if I wanted to leave. How incredibly over the top and insulting. She added, "because you seem unhappy." I said "you seem unhappy. It was a simple request. Not a demand." She was clearly angry and reiterated that she was doing me a huge favor already (although I think the scheduling issue was on them). Her tone and actions were way, way out of line and totally unacceptable, especially considering how minor the request was. So I calmly said, "This is unfair treatment and unprofessional" and left, which I think was pretty fair. I called to speak to the manager, which I think I have only done once before in my entire life. She answered and passive aggressively said, "sorry, I'm the owner. Leon was my dad." She made no effort to make it right. And she was edgy from the very start too. The whole interaction was so unprofessional, hostile, and I'm shocked by it. Probably the absolute worst business interaction of my entire life. I have never written a negative review before, but this is well-deserved. Do not go to Leon's.
