This review pertains to the Clark Memorial Medical Arts Building and its handling of the Covine Vaccine administering; not the hospital per se. The site is located just off exit 1 US 65N in Indiana directly across from downtown Louisville, KY. It ended p being a quote 18 minute drive from the East end of Louisville (Middletown). I received my first dose of the COVID vaccine there and was very impressed with the staff, facility and overall handling of the vaccination process. There was ample parking and signs to direct you to the facility's door. I masked and entered the building and began my journey observing the 6' social distancing rule via the decals on the floor. I checked in online so the 'paperwork' phase was already complete. The line moved swiftly and within ten minutes I had received my injection and was sitting in a holding room for 15-30 minutes to be sure there was no adverse reaction. The medical staff was very courteous / professional and answered all my questions. I received paperwork and an appointment card for the second vaccination. I was pleasantly surprised t how smoothly the entire process was including the travel portion.

The ER needs someone who is actually medically competent. No comment about office experience.

Very easy to schedule testing. Love being preregistered, so the test took only 20 minutes or so and we were out the door!

I was scheduled to have Total Knee Replacement surgery at this hospital. My experience from start…read moreto finish was a true five star experience. One star for outstanding communication! I received a phone call from the hospital scheduler that explained the different appointments that would be required. After scheduling the pre-op hospital exam/tests, and the date of surgery the scheduler said all the information we had talked about on the phone would be sent to me in writing. Sure enough about a week later I received a packet of information with the dates and times for the appointments. The written information included maps and precise directions for where to go, valet parking for pre-op tests, and exactly what garage, floor and entry to go to on the day of surgery. Second star for the pre-op appointment. We followed the directions and had free valet parking. The entry to the hospital for this appointment was easy to find. We were offered assisted ride to the pre-op office but after hearing the directions we chose to walk there. Sign-in was organized, all the staff were cordial and performed their jobs well. The nurse for the actual exam was outstanding and answered any questions that we had. Third star was for the entrance to the surgery area and registration on the day of surgery. Once again all the staff was fantastic and made the arrival process to go so smooth Fourth star was for the private rooms that each patient is assigned. The person accompanying you on the day of surgery can stay in the room and relax the whole time or they can leave to go to the Cafe and return. The room has a private bathroom for use of both the patient and accompanying person. The cleanliness of all areas that we saw throughout the hospital were exceptional. There was not a single area where I could say it appeared cluttered or unclean. The fifth star was for discharge and follow-up phone call following surgery. On discharge the staff confirms that you have any assistance devices you will need when you arrive home. Prescription medications are filled by the hospital through their meds to bed program. The day following discharge a nurse called to inquire how I was doing and if any issues or questions needed to be addressed. I cannot speak to the efficiency of the Emergency Department but I highly recommend this hospital for surgery.

Some healthcare settings are an automatic blood pressure raising experience from the start with the registration experience. This place is not so. I had a gentleman call me the day before my scheduled procedure and handle the majority of the preregistration over the phone. He politely advised me all that was left to do was show up at the correct time with my picture id, my insurance card, and my designated driver. DONE, 5 stars for admissions/registration After finishing with registration I walked into the next private office where the tech completed my day of procedure blood work. I can be difficult for a tech to find a vein to draw blood from so I always warn them not to worry if it takes several tries. WOW, this tech actually got it on the first try and within 5 minutes I was totally finished with labs. DONE, 5 stars for lab work I was then escorted to the correct side of the large waiting room to be called back for Prep. Two - three minutes and the nurse arrived to escort me back for surgical prep. She told my husband after I was prepped someone would come out to get him. The Prep nurses were polite, efficient, friendly and calming. One nurse recapped all my medications and allergies to make sure paperwork was complete and correct. The other nurse took all my vitals (blood pressure, temperature, etc.) They advised me I was next up for the doctor but that they would bring my husband back until it was my turn. DONE, 5 stars again It's my turn for the Cardiac Cath lab. The nurse walks me over and at the same time walks my husband to the waiting room. The nurses in the Cath lab all knew their jobs and were efficient yet friendly. My cardiologist arrived on the scene and the cath was done. After the procedure my husband was escorted into the room so the doctor could review the results with both of us together. DONE, PLUS GOOD NEWS, a definite 5 star experience. Then it was off to recovery. The nursing staff In this area obviously all like their jobs. In the hours it took to go through the recovery process they were caring, social and distinguished professionals. The three hours that require different stages in recovery all breezed past. I was given clear written discharge papers, my husband was sent to the garage for our car and I was wheeled out to meet him in front of the Rudd Heart & Lung Center. 5 stars Not that I want to frequent medical facilities, I would be treated here without hesitation if there was a need .

The next morning, I decided to have it evaluated. I heard Jewish had plastic surgeons on standby, so we drove down on a Saturday morning around 10 am. We were greeted and given papers to fill out while they copied insurance information. No more than 5 minutes later, I was called into triage. I hadn't even finished paperwork! From there, I was led back to a room where I saw a nurse immediately. Followed behind her was a very personable ER doctor who explained why lacerations are best treated earlier, but he went right to work on my injury. He talked thoroughly about wound care and after care for scarring. The nurses then fashioned a less than obvious cover for it. My husband and I could not believe how quick and thorough the process was. I'm healing well and still am amazed how thorough they run the ER at Jewish. I don't look forward to a future visit, but it will definitely be here!

So, I decided to stick with him in hope my mother will receive the medical care and attention (soft skills) I'd like for her. His practice is located in a nice office park in Jeffersonville. Parking was easy and plentiful. The lobby waiting area is very simple - it lacks warmth and the simpliest decorating touch. We waited a bit long, but it wasn't too terrible. Once we made it to a room the wait for Dr. Penn wasn't bad. I feel Dr. Penn demonstrated the soft skills I seek for my mother. Possessing such soft skills can often translate to the doctor's willingness to share her/his thought process and reasoning for their assessment. Otherwise, the doctor spits out what he/she wants done without offering the reasons for their conclusions and/or concerns, all while sometimes being condescending no matter how many questions you ask to get to the place of understanding. And yes, I am speaking from experience. So...sometimes you must move onward. As with most doctor offices, you'll find plenty of helpful / educational literature regarding your health from the lobby to the room where you'll be seen by Dr. Penn. The private rooms were very clean and neat. Subsequent to my mother's office visit with Dr. Penn we ran into him at the hospital. He immediately recognized us (after that 1st office visit) and showed that he remembered the details of our office visit by asking if we were at the hospital to follow through on what he recommended. We were and he went over the instructions with us again. I was impressed with his taking the time to interact and follow through during an unexpected encounter.

I immediately decided that I was going to switch cardiologists. Plus, I currently see a cardiac electrophysiologist in that same practice.
