The website is super informative and gives so many helpful details to plan your adventure whether you are going on the SUP or kayaks but what's more impressive is when you arrive, you are greeted by a super friendly staff and the owner David, is super knowledgeable about what's appropriate for your experience level and then guides you on how to get the most enjoyment out of the time on the water. The equipment was all either brand new or kept in like new condition which is definitely a huge bonus since I have rented boards at other places that were not kept in condition like these. There is a convenient and super clean locker room and bathroom available to get changed in and then lock up your valuables just steps away from the dock where you launch. You can tell that a lot of thought has been put into making every detail of your entire experience fluid and flawless. Since this was my son's first time, the staff helped tether his board to mine which made him and I much more comfortable. After we launched we had an incredible couple of hours enjoying the beautiful weather and such a special day together. I can't thank you enough David and your wonderful staff for making this a very special memory for my son and I! My son already asked when we will go again. After seeing another guest on the 'Step SUP today, I think it would be super fun to try that out and read that Sea Kayak offers motorized SUP as well... I mean, c'mon how cool is that!! We drive up to Norwalk (we live an hour away) and 20 min before the lesson they cancel because there was no instructor to teach. What a joke. I think they have high school kids working there with no expertise with customer service or running a business. Don't waste your time.

I was refused service without consideration and berated by who I am assuming was the owner or manager in front of other patrons and the staff. Let start from the beginning. Norwalk Sailing School lies within a park that charges for parking for non Norwalk residents (which was not disclosed on there website). This park also prohibits pets. So, after paying to get into the park and verifying my K-9's credentials we were in. We then arrived at Norwalk Sailing School. I left my K-9 in the truck while we payed and filled out paperwork. This was to avoid any crowds and children that my be over curious of the K-9. After the paperwork was done the young man told me it would be about 30 min. Which I was fine with because we didn't have a reservation but were still getting the boat we wanted. So we returned to the truck to get our things and my K-9. We then proceeded to walk around the sailing school and to watch the other people and boats. After about 20 mins we then walked back into the staging area to get ready. As soon as we got there an older, short, tan gentleman who I am assuming is the owner or manager began berating me without warrant or instigation. "THAT DOG CANT BE HERE." "MY INSURANCE DOESN'T COVER DOGS/PROPERTY." "WHAT SERVICE COULD A DOG PROVIDE ON A BOAT?" "I DONT WANT IT TO DAMAGE MY PROPERTY." "IT WONT BE COMFORTABLE ON A BOAT ANYWAYS." "YOUR JUST TRYING TO BE SLIPPERY." "I DON'T CARE IF ITS A SERVICE ANIMAL, GET IT OUT OF HERE." "GET OUT OF HERE." So we went to LONGSHORE SAILING SCHOOL instead. There the staff was very considerate, and helpful. And gave me or my K-9 any problems. Oh yeah and it ended up being cheaper also. I highly recommend LONGSHORE SAILING SCHOOL.

The engine came off one of their rental boats - but was told that it was 'the owners boat' (I found out the rental boat bit buy looking at their web site and seeing the boat and the engine in their photos). When I started to ask questions, the sales guy was 100% rude and evasive. He promised to send the service records but when my wife called the main office to see about servicing the engine for shipping, the sales guy called back and went off on her. She was supper upset and crying after the call. I was just trying to buy a motor. No need to make my wife cry. Probably lucky that we did not buy the motor. They were clearly trying to hide something. I would stay away from Rex Marine. There is something bad going on there. No one does customer service this way.

Particularly, the sessions taught by Martin, the owner, were fantastic with both sailing basics and hands-on tips. The classes were intense at times but made you a better sailer. SSC has a variety of sail boats (from daysail to 40 footer) you can have access to after enrolling one of their membership plans which are quite reasonable in my opinion as opposed to owning a boat. Additionally, there are other sailing opportunities (I.e. racing etc) to hone in your skills and enjoy what LI sound has to offer. It is a local family owned business with friendly team. The students and members I met at SSC are easy going and great to hang out with.

I recently got a bill that was supposedly for service over 2 years prior (it's extremely hard to tell if an invoice is legitimate when you're billed 2 years after the service date(s) and their process was never systematic). Instead of the owner taking responsibility for a "software error" and owning the fact that invoicing someone 2 years after service date(s) is terrible business practice, he instead threatened to sue me, said such lawsuit "won't be good for my credit score" AND threatened my personal reputation as a local business owner (for "not paying my bills" I guess when I questioned the bill/timing?) I have a credit score of 820 as I always pay my bills immediately. As a trusted local business owner myself, I would never even CONSIDER charging someone 2 years later for my own company's error. Not only would I take personal responsibility, but I'd never put my clients through having to dig through years of records to try and figure out if charges are legitimate from two years prior.

I have had nothing but great experiences with Palmer Point. Everyone there is friendly and helpful. The service yard is filled with experienced workers and they can handle any need a boater may have. The gas dock is cheap and they honor a $0.10 per gallon discount for BoatUS members. They also have an abundance of different sized boat slips with full amenities (power, water, etc.). I also love that it's family owned! I have nothing bad to say about Palmer Point and would highly recommend them to any of my fellow boaters.
