Part of my problem is after this I have found that I'm not a cruise person and that I picked the wrong boat. There was almost nothing to do. Awful, awful and corny game show entertainment (selling you tickets to play along of course), really bad singers and auctions for art for people who buy art on boats!?!?! Firstly though, the staff on board were all wonderful. No complaints there. But, the wifi was terrible, simply terrible. Even worse it's from Starlink. Not at all worth the insane amount they charge for it. If it's going to spotty, and barely work much of the time then charge approrpriately. The excursions were ALL over priced, very over priced. I thought Disney had the market cornered on over charging and nickle and diming people but they have nothing on curise lines. Good was pretty good, the added charges for the "fancy" restaurants were hit or miss with the food generally being only very slightly better than the free options. Room was decent, bed felt cheap though and after 7 nights I'm very happy to be back on my own mattress. If you do want to do this kind of a trip, save up to get the room with a balcony. I couldn't imagine having been trapped within the ship without some air. If you're your younger, do NOT pick the Jade boat. It's for older people, much older people and don't bring the kids. read more

Just came back from a week long cruise to Bermuda from New York on the Getaway. The odious business of getting checked in and in our rooms wasn't so bad. On a previous cruise I was a big fan of the buffet - this time, not so much. It is frenetic, and the food offerings are more tilted to fast foods than they were on my last cruise. The meat carving station overwhelmingly features chicken. The macaroni looks like Kraft instant. On the first evening, we ate at the Bistro for French, and that was a far different story. Another food high point was the O'Sheehans bar, open 24 hours. Oatmeal there on the first morning was just the ticket. The shows were excellent. Bermuda was fantastic. The ship was generally well run, and easy to navigate. Drinks were excellent and cheerfully given. A week of being pampered for the most part. I went back-and-forth with my rating and settled at four. I realize most of the issues I had were not because of Norwegian, but because of inconsiderate and rude people that were on the cruise. After booking, I would suggest doing research on what the ship offers. There are things I wish I knew day one as opposed to finding out later on. One of those are the sit down meals. The buffet has a lot of great options, but not all the food is great. They do rotate the options almost every day. There's a parking lot available right next to the ship which was convenient. There are also lots located near the ship that aren't associated with Norwegian. Leaving the terminal was cool because you pass the Statue of Liberty which I've never been that close to. You also go under what I believe was the Verrazano bridge. The entire staff is amazing and friendly. They are from different countries around the world. I literally found one unfriendly employee out of the hundreds during my week. The staff goes out of their way to make sure you enjoy your trip. I especially liked the washy-washy guys at the buffet. At first it was corny and annoying. After a few days, you start to look forward to seeing them and even sing along with them. The package you pay for makes a difference with the little extras. The rooms are small which I didn't mind because I don't go on vacation to stay in a room. They offer coffee and tea in the room. Also included is a few TV channels. There are shows, movies, ship directory, and available activities for the ship. You can even check your balance for the room on one of the apps. The bathroom has complementary soap, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. They are in giant bottles that are attached to the wall and get refilled. The shower has a clothesline, which allows you to hang your wet bathing suit. The ship has a race track, mini golf, casino, shops, multiple bars, multiple restaurants, etc. I was displeased with the pool. They have "three"pools. One is a kids water play area. Another is an adult only that fits 35 people. Do the ratio of 3000 into 35 and that will tell you how crowded the pool can get. There are also two hot tub near the pool, which fill up with little kids. I guess once on vacation, many parents don't care about their kids. They clearly don't care if they are annoying other guests, which frequently happens. There are multiple food options. Something for everyone. My two favorites were the Manhattan Room and Cagney's. Manhattan Room is included, Cagneys is a pay restaurant. There are other pay restaurants on the ship and also other sit down restaurants which are included. Like i said earlier, the buffet is a great option for breakfast or quick food. I preferred going to the sit down restaurants. Overall, I had a great trip. There are things I wish I planned better, and things I wish I knew before I got on the ship. I personally would not get back on a cruise anytime soon. For me it wasn't worth the expense, but you may have a different opinion. I would only do a cruise again if it is to visit multiple stops in a few days or visit Alaska. read more

I purchased airfare through their air and sea program, the flight was cancelled due to a storm and now I can't get in touch with anyone except via filling out a claim form to get my money back. Took a Norwegian Cruise to Bermuda to celebrate a sister's 40th birthday! :) A moving hotel on water! It was fine staying within our group. Same menus and meals! Food is food i guess! :) Only a few ladies that i saw that i liked and atleast said hi to each of them. Very few ladies of European nationality and descent like even from Norway for instance. Again, i emphasize on the word few! :) The demographics on the cruise was horrible and horrendous. I expected the inhabitants of Bermuda to be of colour in black race but not the cruise itself. It must have been 60% black people to everybody else. It made it very difficult to move and get around the ship. Also, very few winners at Gambling. I had An amazing experience, we took the cruise for my husband's birthday and we had a wonderful time everything was amazing from the polite staff to the food that was available basically 24 seven my favorite was the Texas barbecue and Starbucks of course. We upgraded our package to have the top shelf liquor included and it was totally worth it! Everyone cared to every need and when we stopped in Bermuda we took a tour of the crystal keys which are just beautiful I will absolutely be taking another cruise again with Norwegian. read more

They basically have a complaint compartment that can do nothing. Their customer service representative is selling your plans. Do not tell you the full details until it's too late to change them so now I'm stuck with a 3 1/2 hour layover and a two hour on the way home They did nothing to try to fix it. All I heard was no and an extra thousand dollars to fix it to get to New Orleans I will never use this company ever again and I suggest you don't either. they would not even give me a full refund on the air package to fix it myself. read more

Buyer Beware. Norwegian has lost sight of the customer service aspect of the business. Purchased a cruise 1 month prior to disembarking and itinerary changed, removing a port of call from a 7 day trip. Stated issue for the change was a general election in Belize driving assumed labor shortages (seems like a foreseeable challenge). Additionally, instead of cancelling Belize, NCL cancelled the next stop on the cruise (Honduras). I assume this makes financial sense for the organization since there are no port fees for the privately held island in Belize and the tourist dollars predominately stay under the NCL umbrella. Immediately called customer service upon receiving the itinerary change with a simple ask... Transfer me to another boat. Was not looking for any refund or discount (actually offered to pay a premium on the change so NCL didnt lose any money), I just want an experience that matches what my family signed up for (additional days at sea are not ideal for my family). Instead of accommodating what seemed like a simple, logical request NCL essentially told me that they have the right to do whatever they want with the itinerary and if i do make a change, that i will lose the entire cost of the initial trip. Its disappointing that my cruise is still 2 weeks out and we aren't even excited to be going at this point... Will be moving our business elsewhere in the future. We were on the Norwegian Getaway, our fifth time cruising and second time on this type of ship. We went to Bermuda and had an amazing time at the beaches there. Bermuda is everything you would think a paradise island that you can an afford should be: super relaxing and beautiful beaches, greenery, and coral rocks. You have to experience it for yourself. Feels dreamy even while you are actually there. You do loose two days to cold weather going there in winter from January, so I deduct a star. But if you live in NYC, you do save the hassle of a flight to Florida, where i usually leave to cruise from. The food aboard ship was good, oddly better than at Bermuda. Worst ever customer service experience in my life and I did not embark on my cruise as it's scheduled for April 2, 2023. The back story, I have taken I'll and will not be able to go on my scheduled cruise. Doctors orders. I contacted NCL to cancel and they had zero empathy so it cost me $2200.00 to cancel with the epic line that since I had travel insurance, I MAY get full reimbursement. The next issue is upon cancellation, I received an email confirming said cancellation but 8 days later and the refund still has not been applied to my credit card account. I contacted the corrupt NCL and was notified that the credit would be issued in 7-10 days. This was not communicated nor dies this specification appear anywhere on the contract or cancellation confirmation. MY ADVICE IS TO NEVER CRUISE ON NORWEGIAN CRUISE LINES. read more

We had a family member who paid in full for him and a partner for a cruise. He dided of cancer and we attempted to transfer the reservation to another couple. Apparently BECAUSE it was paid in full they only allow one name to transfer else it is considered a cancelation with no refund. Basically NCL gets to keep the thousands of dollars based on name change and death. Because I am sure it is such a headache for them to only let "Rob" go with another but not "Joe and Mindy" go on the same fully paid trip. Such a scam! No refund, can't re-sell, but they can keep the full exploration amount paid for months in advice instead. The entire cruise line is corrupt doing this. Norwegian has really turned the ship around(you like that) I was on a Norwegian Cruise with my family about 10 years ago and I was very disappointed. Until then I had been a Royal Caribbean loyalist and for good reason. Royal had been the top choice for me as their service, ships and cuisine were top notch up until recent years. My wife scored a great deal on a Norwegian Cruise during teachers week this November, it was a fantastic opportunity to take the kids on vacation. The price was right and they threw in many perks including open bar. A few friends of ours joined us, it made for a fun trip. I was impressed with the ship, the Norwegian Escape is laid out well, I never felt trapped. The crew on the ship is top notch and it clearly demonstrates how far Norwegian has come. The only gripe I have is related to the pool areas, they are still too damn small. You have a ship with 5000 passengers, how can you in good conscience create pool areas to only accommodate 500? I planned our first family cruise vacation on NCL with my 2 daughters. Due to a reoccurring respiratory infection & asthma complications my daughters Dr advised against her traveling in large crowds. I wanted to give a review of the Escape, but don't have time to write out every single detail so I've narrowed it down to some pros and cons. To give you some background, I have been on RC and HA before, though it has been over 10 years since my last cruise. My boyfriend also cruised with Princess almost 20 years ago. Since it has been so many years, it would be unfair to compare those other cruises to this one. We had heard excellent things about NCL from people who sailed with them previously and decided to book with them, especially since we live so close to the NY port. Pros: The ship is impressive; An adult only area is available (Spice H20); Every cruise employee was friendly and eager to please; The room steward (Jerome) always had our room in great shape; A variety of food options available; It was nice having 3 days in one port (Bermuda); The self-debarkation was fast. Cons: Food was only a step above cafeteria food (I don't blame the chefs, but believe NCL purchases cheaper items to keep costs low. While I've eaten in high-end restaurants before, I also love a good Costco hotdog and Kraft mac and cheese and those items would have been better than what we ate.); Service was very slow in restaurants (wait staff was friendly and eager to please though-maybe the kitchen was far?); It is difficult to get reservations at the specialty restaurants (which often remained empty even when they said they were booked); Crowds were overwhelming (It was difficult to get around the ship at times. Elevators were impossible. The first day especially was unpleasant with so many lines and people crowding in different areas.). Overall, we had a great time together and in Bermuda, but found the cruise to be just okay. We probably wouldn't cruise NCL again unless they had some unbelievable deal available. For Christmas 2010, I didn't want my wife cooking for Christmas eve/day and so I surprised her with a cruise out of NYC, Yay! I also convinced my brother & sister in law to bring their kids as well. We are experienced cruisers and I was looking forward to not flying to Florida or LA. This ship is on my home turf baby! When my kids were younger, we did all of the Disney Caribbean Cruises. 7 days of fun in the sun as well as Mickey Mouse, how can you go wrong? Disney also has their own island that is just beautiful. I walked all over that island and explored every area. I've had a massage once in a private hut at the far end of the island. So at this point I'm expecting nothing but greatness when I cruise. The Disney processing is also magical. There are multiple check in folks at Port Canaveral and its overlooking the ocean. What does this have to do with Norwegian? Here is my NYC Norwegian experience. The limo drops us off on the pier and the ship is right next to The Intrepid. When you walk in, there is a loooooooggg line with ugly gray terminals. Any cruise ship that I've been on, the main focal point is their lobby. The Disney ship was so elegant. The Norwegian Jewel? Formica white tables along with a white and purple theme. Ugh... The first thing you need to purchase is a Latte plan. For $30 bucks you can have 10 lattes. (Yes, this is not free on the ship) Soda is also not free on any cruise line. You'll need to purchase a per person soda plan. *Big important item to point out! If you ex-military you get a discount! So we have two adjoining rooms which was nice with an outside balcony between both rooms. Going on a Christmas cruise out of NYC you have to keep in mind the weather. If you think your gonna jump in your shorts and start to drink pina coladas, guess again Skippy. We sailed on a Sunday and by Monday I was looking for the pool. The hot tubs had steam rolling off them and I jumped right in. It felt like my friggin skull was on fire! Hot water and ice cold winds? OMG, it was cold baby! Day two was better for swimming and hanging by the pool. So two days going down and two days going up on a 7 day cruise doesn't leave too much swim time. We get to their private island and from a distance, its beautiful. The water is blue and the island is looking good. With the Disney Cruise, they built a dock that you can just walk off and enjoy. Norwegian Cruise Line? They have boat tenders that take you back and forth. It was ok but there was a loooooong line to get back on the boat. No worries, there's beer on the island to keep you feelin good man. On the Disney private island, you can walk and really explore. Norwegian Cruise Line island is roped off with these huge tractors in the distance. It was private and nice. I had to get my groove on. I swam with my family but then... the jungle music was calling me. The beers were calling me.. The Macarena was calling me! I gotta dance on the beach which I thought was fun. Disney is geared towards young families and there is no shakin your bootie in the Disney world. Score Norwegian Cruise Line! The food was ok but what I remember most is midnights. The kids were asleep and the four of us would go to get coffee and light snacks. Also, every night about 9:00 was crepe time! Here was our schedule: Eat a nice meal See a show Go back to the room, change clothes and CREPE TIME! OMG, I need a crepe making chef in my house! Peach crepes, chocolate crepes, banana crepes. Everything should be in a crepe. The rooms were also questionable. The Disney ship was really nice. In 2007 we went on a Carnival Cruise out of LA. We had a suite that was luxurious! I wanted to be next to my nieces so we got two rooms with a nice open deck between the rooms. The rooms were on the smaller side. Oh, and bring a bar of soap! On the Carnival cruise it was samples gone wild. Name brand soaps, shampoos, toothpastes, razors, you name it. On the Disney ship every day they gave you a fresh bar of soap. Norwegian Cruise Line? Nada. For soap, they had a soap dispenser filled with body wash. yuck.. When I got to the Bahamas, I bought a nice bar of soap at a soap store. On the very last day, my youngest wakes me up. Dad! Lets go to the top deck and see the Statue of Liberty! So we throw on our clothes and run upstairs. When we get up top, there was a sheet of ice on the deck. We both flew in the air! My family and I sailed on the Norwegian Joy at the end of May 2023 for a 7-night cruise to Bermuda. We have been exclusive NCL customers but we are parting ways with the cruise line. My mother-law's toilet broke mid-week and it was not fixed until the night before disembarkation. There was no shortage of excuses and it took the plumber three attempts to finally fix the problem. My MIL is 94 years old and in a wheelchair, so saying she was inconvenienced doesn't even begin to cover it. The stench and the interruptions were unfair to her. We asked NCL for a refund and the best they could do was offer a credit on a future cruise. Are they kidding? We are never cruising with NCL again. And when the shows get canceled, they don't have a Plan B to occupy the travelers. When you speak to someone they look at you like you have 10 heads, smile, and pass the buck. It's not permissible to sell some thing as food drink, and entertainment, and only provide two of the three. I understand the weather cannot be predicted however, they predicted it well enough to know to stop one of the shows way before and try to provide an alternative. The other shows they did not provide alternatives for us. They left you're just wandering around trying to figure out what to do. I just took my first cruise on the Norwegian Dawn from Boston to Bermuda with my family (husband, parents, sister, b-i-l, and niece) and had a great time! We all made it there and back in one piece and really enjoyed ourselves in the process. I will admit, at first I was worried about being on a large ship out in the middle if the Atlantic with all the recent cruising issues in the news but none of that happened on this cruise. The onboarding process was busy but moved along quickly. It took maybe 45 minutes to navigate through luggage drop off, security scan, check-in and then actually to get onto the ship. The Dawn is a big boat - it holds 2,200 guests and 1,000 crew comfortably without giving you that uncomfortable overcrowded feeling. The room: My husband and I stayed in room 5508 - at the front of the ship on deck 5. We had a small porthole for our window and the room suited us just fine. I really liked the layout of the closet and the bathroom - talk about making the best use of a small space! I know another reviewer commented that the body soap in the shower wasn't to their liking but we were fine with it and the accompanying shampoo. I wish our neighbors weren't so freaking loud at 2am but the staff took care of it. Our steward was fantastic and kept our room spotless. We joked that he was the towel fairy because we'd leave the room for a minute and the towels would magically refills themselves :) OK, the food: There was a ton of it! The big buffet was up on deck 12 and had a wraparound dining room with beautiful views of the ocean. It was also a fantastic place to people watch and see some of them absolutely lose their minds over cake/coffee/ham/insert food vice here. The food wasn't bad, it was OK. It reminded me of cafeteria food. Just remember: you're eating at a buffet on a boat in the middle of the ocean. I am conscious of portion control and benefit more from having a plate of food served to me so we frequented other restaurants that offered this at no additional cost. Aqua/deck 6: This was the first one we tried. We went as a group for dinner and found the food to be fine. They offer a set menu and then change it up some daily specials. This was a hot spot for dinner because it's midship and has big windows with a nice view of the sunset. Venetian/deck 6: We didn't find this place until well into our trip and I wish we'd found it earlier. Same menu/food as Aqua but the service is a little more refined and the view is awesome - it's across the whole end of the ship. Note: men are expected to wear pants here at night though Bermuda shorts were acceptable. This was our favorite place for breakfast in the ship. Blue Lagoon/deck 8: This was the diner option on the boat. We ate there three times but weren't impressed at all. The food was OK but we had to keep asking for it. Another time it just didn't show up at all! We avoided going after that. There were several specialty restaurants onboard where you could pay a fee for dine. Some were totally worth it: Bamboo/$15 per person - delicious Asian cuisine/deck 7 Sushi/a la carte - phenomenal, really outstanding/deck 7 Noodle bar/a la carte - delicious but only open for lunch/deck 7 Cagney's/$30 per person - fantastic steakhouse/deck 13 Others, not so much: La Cucina/$15 per person - subpar Italian food with a surly waitress/deck 7 And you could get pizza delivered to you for a $5- fee or have room service delivered but we didn't do either of these. The people on the cruise: This is a family cruise so you saw all types of passengers: families, newlyweds, older couples, etc. The ship itself offered a ton of activities for every interest so there's always something fun going on and you'd get the details for the next day every night in a guide delivered to your room. I was concerned about seasickness so purchased Seaband acupressure bracelets at CVS before we left. These were a total lifesaver! We wore them every day on the ship and did not feel queasy at all. Here's the travel schedule: Friday: Board, leave Boston at 4p Saturday: At sea Sunday: In Bermuda by 11a and go exploring Monday: In Bermuda Tuesday: In Bermuda, cast off at 6p Wednesday: At sea Thursday: At sea Friday: Back in Boston Bermuda is lovely and the people are super nice but food is super expensive. I'm so glad we didn't have to worry about buying three meals a day and securing a hotel while we were there! We're not big sun people but the beaches looked gorgeous. Debarking the boat Friday morning: So much easier than I thought I would be! We tagged our luggage the night before and put it out for the steward to collect before midnight. Friday morning we got up, went to breakfast, freshened up and then headed up to the atrium to hang out and wait for our luggage tag color to be called. When it was called, we got in line and were off the ship in about a 1/2 hour. We picked up our luggage, hopped in a cab and were home in a 1/2 hour after that. That was it! read more

Just got back from a cruise on the Getaway. I was looking forward to celebrating Christmas and my birthday on a 7 night cruise. I got food poisoning on my 3rd day and was up all night with symptoms I won't go into and slept the entire next day. That day was my birthday.. The food was terrible and clearly not prepared hygienically. I was unable to enjoy the rest of the cruise because of the aftereffects of being sick. When I brought my situation to the attention of Guest Services I was offered no recompense whatsoever for being made sick by their food. It is 5 days since I ate the food that made me sick (possibly red snapper which I later found out another guest was warned away from by a waiter) and I'm still having symptoms. I would recommend anyone thinking of cruising with Norwegian be very careful when considering it, as you will be taking chances with your health and the ability to enjoy your time at sea. Recently returned from a 4 day trip to Cuba on the Norwegian Sky. We were two couples celebrating a birthday. The ship is 19 years old, so we weren't expecting the best, but the ship really needs an overhaul. I will say for the most part the staff was very nice and accommodating. However, the customer service desk was less than helpful when we complained about a pretty major problem we had in our cabin. The bathroom would give you two flushes than nothing. From day 1 we called and complained. Someone would come in "fix" the problem, two flushes later it stopped working. I'm sure you can imagine the inconvenience this caused roaming the ship for a bathroom!!! By day 3 we were livid and asked to speak with a manager. For all that inconvenience, they offered us a small credit in one of their "specialty" restaurants. I tried to explain to them we were traveling with another couple and wanted to eat together (the purpose of the trip) and it wasn't fair to ask them to pay for a dinner. They stuck to the original offer and that was it. We have traveled a lot and have been on many cruises, 3 of which were with NCL. They obviously have no customer service skills and will never recommend this cruise line again. read more

I took a ncl gem to Bahamas Caribbean. We purchase a suite for few hundreds more because you get a balcony, but I only been on the balcony the first day, so you should save some money and buy the cheapest room, because there so much to do on board in cruise. read more

The worst experience of my life. It was my first cruise and I was in the Haven on the Bliss. An unhelpful concierge, sewage smell, bed bugs, all kinds of extra hidden charges and beach excursions of only two hours were just some of the things that made this trip the trip from hell. We have cruised seven times on Norwegian Cruise line, twice during covid. We met all safety requirements and paper work. Two days before the end of the cruise my husband got sick. Our daughter told us it would be essential for the cruise to administer a covid test for the health and safety of ourselves and everyone else on the ship. My husband and many of the passengers were high-risk. Two men dressed like crew members (not medical) came .. swabbed one of my husbands nostrils, did not move the swab around, hardly put it past the opening of his nasal passage. Left, called less than two minutes later and said he was negative. When we requested to see the test result they never responded. The test was fake. The moment we got off the ship, in our car, we went directly to a pharmacy and gave ourselves tests, waited the twenty minutes and both were positive. I can only suppose the cruise line was trying to keep the breakout on ship secret to the detriment of all on board. The medical care was fraudulent. Not my first cruise with ncl but this will be my last. From day one i was not happy... 1.I booked a room with two double beds, confirmed this again before leaving. To my much surprise i get full bed. When i complained i got an attitude from whoever came to my room to fix the mistake. Every time i had to call guest service from room i was rudely cut off and hung up on. 2. Ended up getting sick on board bad sore throat now on antibiotics . The ship looks clean, but never saw anyone wiping down stair railings, or doors , as i have on other ships. They are good for washy washy, you will know what that means if you cruised before. 3 Food = Salt: Everything had a high salt content, and aside from the salt i just wasnt impressed. Perhaps im used to another cruiseline always offering you to try different items without even asking. Also on most nights waiters didn't engage with you, they didn't seem as friendly as other experiences i have had. I won't say they were all bad because one server in the irish pub was excellent. 4. No captains night? I brought a dress and everything never saw captain night in the paper they hand out, no one walking around all dressed up so I don't think I could gave missed it. After sailing on RCCL, Princess, HAL, Carnival and other miscellaneous cruiselines, I get the gist of what's a formalish/upscale-ish cruise as well as a let-loose cruise. While succumbing to be a Budget Booze Cruise, NCL also somehow manages to emit a snobbish vibe as seen on Princess and Royal Caribbean. Careless individuals with alcohol always in their hands plus pompous individuals judging you from head to toe, unite. Boarding and Disembarking were a snap, at least they got that one down. I also have to give a shout-out to the service overall. It was detailed and pretty genuine, more than on many cruises I've been on. More than a few workers I interacted with couldn't speak English at all, though. Freestyle dining was OK, but didn't work out for us late-eaters. We were always rushing to get to the (lackluster) shows at 9pm and ended up having to stand without a chair to sit in. Food was also OK...lots of different cuisine to choose from on the buffet. Some dishes in both buffet or restaurant were a homerun, and others were disappointing or downright nasty. It was international themed, and they had an emphasis on Indian cuisine, and even offered sugar-free sweets each day. Many options too salty, some things overcooked. 90% of the stuff never changed, which was pretty boring. Also, how did the pastry chefs manage to make 80% of their chocolate desserts not taste like chocolate at all? That's a mystery to me, but they somehow managed to pull it off. Have fun if your boat has The Haven, and you're not a part of it. It's a "Have's and Have Not's" tragedy constantly replaying before your eyes during your relaxing vacation. It makes the "First Class Vs Coach" comparison seem like small potatoes. It really becomes annoying when you see so many "perks" that they have that us peon scrubs don't. (ex: cutting to the front of pretty much every long line). A real unfortunate part of the cruise was the uptight vibe of the passengers. I really let loose during my trip, but it seemed like everyone on the boat came off as aloof or grumpy. Nobody wanted to mingle (unless it was for free drinks on your tab, or sex maybe). There were young and old couples alike and a variety of backgrounds, yet it was virtually impossible to socialize because the vibe was either too negative or desperate. I was hoping to find new cruising friends, but guess not. Constant crowds are everywhere on NCL's ships, and it's hard to find repose unless you're in your stateroom. They are very overcrowded. So if you consider a vacation requiring peace and quiet, this cruiseline's definitely not for you. And the absolute WORST part of the whole cruise: it seems like everything on the boat is for a "nominal fee" -- the cruiseline's favorite term to nickel-and-dime the bajeezus out of you. That's probably why the cruiseline has shockingly low stateroom prices, come to think of it. So it's your cruise fare, plus gov't/port/etc tax fees, plus the prepaid gratuity for the service on the ship. Now your cruise budget has gone up significantly from the price you originally wanted. Welcome to modern cruising for the masses. And then on the boat, there's so much surcharge everywhere that it seems the only free things to do are swim, sweat at the gym, or eat at the buffet. Plus the crowds. I personally don't consider that as a relaxing vacation. But maybe you would? My group didn't even spend a dime during our whole time on the ship, besides the comped allowance. Take that. So all in all...a cruise is really what you make of it, but this particular cruise was really, really bad. I mean, you'd probably be happy sailing on this cruiseline if you need to work on expanding your beer gut, or if you think you're a paragon who's somehow superior to everyone else. TBH, I'd rather sail on Holland America with 60+ y.o. travelers playing shuffleboard than sail on NCL again. read more

Just got back from our week long Bahamas cruise. I am going to start with the negative BUT PLEASE KEEP READING....there are WAY more positives than negatives. Negatives We missed the private island. There were ship issues which kept us in Florida for an extra several hours (we didn't leave until 1am). - the plus side of this they have everyone on board a $50 credit. The buffet- if you are use to higher class food or food with flavor pass on the buffet unless ur starving! The spa- just avoid at all costs - way over priced and hard sells at the end of your supposedly relaxing time to buy extra services and products.... If you do decide to go to the spa wait til a port day things are deeply discounted. Port taxes- when in any US port there will be a tax Getting on and off the ship in New York to board and disembark - no fault of ncl its customs but it SUCKS. Be prepared Canceling of activities/changing scheduled activities- it happens which isn't the bad part - they do not communicate it when it does happen and you may be sitting waiting for an activity that isn't happening Positives The included sit down restaurants - they offer a daily changing menu - staff are beyond accommodating and helpful- oh did I mention if you can't decide what you want you can order it all or order seconds! If on the Gem which we were go to grand pacific it's amazing! The casino- if you are a Texas Holdem player- read here: poker tables open at 5pm but cakes typically start 10p-11p until 3am. They only run 2-5 tables and rake 10% but it's vacation lol. They run 2 $80 tournaments but the blind structure kinda sucks Other cruisers: there is a mix of old young kids a bit of everything and for he most part everyone is super nice and polite! The bar- get the unlimited beverage package you will thank me later- oh and order mango meltdowns and mudslides every chance you get yummmm! The staff- everyone is super friendly and helpful when your lost lol. Cruise next- if you place a deposit while on board you will get some serious on board credit - did it worth it Daily freestyle- this is the guide that tells you what's going on for the day- try and attend as many group activities like trivia as possible because you earn signatures that are redeemable for prizes at the end for your cruise - 40 signatures = a shirt Most importantly this was a vacation we had a blast and are signed up to go again :-). read more

Two of us just returned home from a week-long cruise on the "Dawn" from Boston to Bermuda and we had a wonderful time! I'm really not sure why this cruise line gets such poor reviews. I'm an avid cruiser who's been on many journeys and sailed with all different companies and found this experience to be a great one. I must admit that at first I was a little apprehensive about having an inside cabin (I usually get a window) and the fact that with "Freestyle Dining" we wouldn't have the same waiter each night so the service in the diningroom would suffer... but I found each of these worries to be totally unnecessary. Our cabin was cozy and comfortable and spacious enough for two with ample storage space and a bathroom that had a full-sized shower with sliding doors (no flimsy curtain...yuck). I would have preferred real soap and shampoo to the wall-mounted dispenser, but luckily I was prepared and brought my own. Our cabin stewart kept the room tidy and remade our (very comfortable!) bed twice a day. The meals were good..... nothing fantastic.... but everything we ate was tasty. Perhaps the meals were not as gourmet and inspired as those I've encountered on other ships.... but since I'm a simple eater, that was fine for me. We only ate in the main diningroom (none of the specialty restaurants) so perhaps the food in those is fancier. The portion sizes were adequate (not huge... which is a good thing) and you can order as much as you like. Can't choose between two entrees? Get 'em both. No problem. The service was fantastic... everyone from the cabin stewart to the restaurant staff to the bartenders to the entertainment staff was as friendly and helpful as can be. I never (NEVER) saw anyone without a smile on their face. And the ship (while a bit on the older side as far as cruise ships go) was clean and very comfortable. There was plenty to do (or not do.... we spent most of our afternoons reading and relaxing).... and the evening shows were terrific. It was a great trip and we would not hesitate to sail with NCL again. read more

My family and I recently took an 7 day cruise from NYC to Port Canaveral and Nassau on the NCL Escape. Boy was this a nice ship!! It was our first cruise, so it was a learning experience while also downright enjoyable. NCL definitely values customer satisfaction and making your vacation be the "escape" you envisioned. While we were all adults, we found ourselves drawn mostly to Spice H2O where it was adult only most of the time. The hot tubs worked 50% of the time...either they weren't hot or the bubbles weren't on. Maintenance was seen working on them throughout the cruise though. The grotto was the BEST part of the ship, my personal sanctuary. Bar staff were attentive and didn't expect tips like some all-inclusive places still expect despite pre-paying tips. That being said, we were happy to tip as everyone was great. While making reservations are recommended, they aren't needed and we were able to eat where we wanted throughout our time on the ship. The housekeeping staff wasn't the greatest. My bed sheets weren't changed during the week, as I fell asleep the first night and smudged my eyeliner on a pillow which remained the entirety of the cruise. If I truly cared I could have called housekeeping but it wasn't the biggest deal. I cared more about the plates and cups that were dirty and not cleared that I had to put outside of my door to finally get discarded. I stayed in the singles lounge which was fun and unique. Took advantage of the lounge and it's expresso maker, the best coffee on the boat! read more

Buyer Beware!! My family and I took an Easter cruise on the Norwegian Dawn from New Orleans to Cozumel,Honduras, Belize and Costa Maya 3/27 - 4/3/16 Food poisoning, rude dining staff, never again. I've been on several cruises with other lines. I never had an experience like this. Terrible. They couldn't even make the last port of call supposedly because it was unsafe to dock? It was more unsafe to stay on the ship! We are all ill with food poisoning. Epic fail Norwegian, you'll never get my business again. read more
