Nosh's portions are filling and the quality of their food is excellent. The restaurant prides itself on fresh ingredients and their food has a "great local soup and sandwich shop" feel to it. Locals typically latch on to a favorite (mine is Owny's Crunchy Chicken sandwich) and rarely gravitate from it. Overall, Nosh is worth going back to perhaps once a month or and their boxes make for great catering. The Atmosphere: Creative, colorful and communal. Décor is eclectic with benches made out of skis and colorful art on the walls. It feels sort of like a cross between the coffee shop (Central Perk) from Friends and your neighborhood diner. Lunchers are mostly people from around the neighborhood looking for a social place to have lunch. It can get a bit noisy during lunch but it fits with the place they strive to be. The Service: The service is a little lacking. During busy times, serving times are slow (about 15-25 min for ordering and receiving food). Nosh also lacks the warmth of other small neighborhood restaurants in Durham. Granted, it is more of an order, grab your food and sit down kind of a place, but when compared to similar establishments, staff members don't feel as connected to or involved with customers. Moreover, Nosh charges you a quarter for a cup for tap water, which I think is particularly egregious. Little things like offering free tap water cups, improving service times and checking in on customers (especially regulars) who working on their laptops over many cups of coffee would be a welcome service upgrade. Location: It's right off of Erwin Road across from Duke's campus and is a nice shopping area with a few other local restaurants and businesses. Easy to get to by car if you are on Duke's West Campus or nearby. Other Details: The restaurant takes cash and credit cards. It could also easily get crowded and noisy during lunch but you can get in and out within an hour depending on service times. read more

Decided to have breakfast at Nosh, since it was pretty close to our hotel. I ordered Rocket's Breakfast, which included eggs, maple pepper bacon, toast and fruit. The bacon was AWESOME! Nosh is my favorite place to grab a nice lunch at duke university. The soups are always wonderful- my favorite is the tortilla soup though it doesn't rotate through the specials as often as I'd like. The wonderful thing about Nosh is that from the moment you walk through the door the staff makes you feel like you are a local- each one makes you feel comfortable in an a very casual environment. The eclectic decorations make it fun to meet a friend or discuss some business here. The sides that come with all the dishes are unique- sweet potato fries, hand cut nosh chips, pasta salad, curried couscous, or potato salad. I've never had a bad meal here. The specials that rotate trough are generally most delicious. My favorites are the new rosemary chicken pita and the banana pancakes. So many options! Take a friend and enjoy! read more

We eat here for lunch and the food is always good. They have a nice selection and the food always tastes savory and fresh. I like the caramelized onion dip they have with the kettle chips with melts in your mouth. I haven't had any of the sandwiches here but the last time I had one from Baby Nosh it was pretty great! I came here for lunch when I was on Duke's campus for the day. Their breakfast menu runs through lunch so I ordered the Maggie's Scramble, a sort of giant breakfast burrito topped with a salsa-ish red sauce, which came with chips. It was good and a hefty portion of food for a very reasonable price. Besides this I didn't find it or the rest of Nosh's menu very exciting. Nothing really to complain about though! I would definitely eat at Nosh if I was in Durham for lunch, but I wouldn't go out of my way to make it happen. read more

I love how close it is to Duke and the medical centre, I love how it screams "work coffeeshop" to me, I love its reliable and tasty food options, I love the robot decor, I love the kind service I get there. But the last few times I've been, the wifi has been unreliable and given how much I want this to be a regular work coffeeshop for me (still on the hunt in the Triangle), this is frustrating. I haven't been paying attention to the timing, so it's possible that this is due to too much internet usage at peak times? Maybe? The last time this happened, staff said they had reset the connection and there was nothing else that they could do. read more

Tried this place out for the CM's Office Hours a few weeks ago and liked it, so this review is more like 3.5 stars. The inside is brightly painted and the ambience welcoming. It was superbusy at lunch time so I had to wait 10-15 minutes for my portabello mushroom burger to arrive, but it was quite satisfyingly large and a pretty good value (~$8), especially with the accompanying side. The whole portabello wasn't grilled as I'd expected, but breaded and fried; however it was still moist and had a nicely crispy texture on the outside. I liked the overall burger even if I didn't like the bun (too thick and bready) and didn't taste much/any of the sauce since it was overpowered by a hunk of melted Swiss cheese. I also liked the curried couscous, which had a hint of sweetness from the raisins and nuts mixed in. Lastly, I tried a Beaucoup Berry smoothie (courtesy of our favourite CM Christina G!) and wasn't too impressed; It tasted like a very tangy OJ with way too many berry pits in it. I enjoyed the burger and would go back to try other lunch and breakfast items on the menu. I was also itching to try some of their sweet treats but summoned my willpower to stay away, so I plan to return to try some of their yummy-looking cupcakes and cookies. read more

I need to start this review by saying I have only been to Nosh for breakfast and brunch. I love their Shoaf's toast. It's delicious French toast topped with peanut butter, bananas, and honey. My fiancée and I crave it like no other breakfast treat. Nosh is a counter service place, but it works really well. The cashiers are always friendly, and they give you a little table marker with an adoptable animal on it to identify your order. I've never experienced any anxiety about receiving my food. During brunch on Sundays, there's often a local bluegrass band, which is really cool. My only qualm with Nosh is that there fruit salad never seems completely fresh. The melon always has that filmy consistency liked you'd expect at a chain hotel's complimentary continental breakfast. Also, their muffins are pretty lousy. If you're going to splurge on calories, save it, they're not worth the compromise. All in all, I love the atmosphere, and the few menu creations we've tried. Maybe one day we'll make it for lunch or dinner too! read more

I love Fridays when they do their grill outside of the Trent Semans building. I'm not sure if it's a year-round thing, but hopefully it is because it is so good! You can expect typical grill food, but my favorite is the mushroom burger. They also have a wide variety of toppings to choose from (such as onions, red onions, mayo, ketchup, etc.). The line can be very long, but usually goes quickly. They take either cash or credit at the counter. Highly recommend if you are looking for a quick bite around the medical campus and don't want to walk to the main campus! read more

We called ahead of time to reserve a table and Wendy was happy to help us! We arrived and got the red carpet treatment. The Nosh does it right. The menu has good choices plus daily specials. They're open all day and have breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus desserts, alcohol, smoothies. Basically everything. The prices are good. Lunch, when I usually go, is about $6-10. The quality is very good. The sandwiches are fresh, well-seasoned and well-cooked. Friendly staff, prompt service, colorful interior, and a plethora of healthy (and hopefully delicious!) options greet you immediately. I was feeling in a salad mood, so I opted for the Lancie's Leaves. The chicken wasn't over-breaded or greasy; a quick crunchy addition to the salad (big thumbs up to the balsamic!) My co-worker went with the Paula Rocks wrap, which she gave two enthusiastic thumbs up. How can one go wrong with horseradish-marinated grilled chicken?!
