Outstanding pizza. Good fried mushrooms and decent parking curbside. I often think of this place as I remember good food I've had.

Today on the way out of Durham I stopped here for a slice as I was told that they had excellent pizza. Those in my mind are strong words and should not be said lightly as person who grew up in NY. With that being said this is a small hole in the wall pizza place with not much ambiance to speak of. If you like thin crust pizza then grab a slice from them. I will say that it's big and messy not really something you can eat while driving. I enjoyed it. Again I would say not excellent but it wasn't a bad since of pizza. read more

Craving Italian food, but not sure what I was hungry for, I found Devil's Pizzeria where they have a Vegetarian Sampler bowls. So, so good. I also nabbed the fried ravioli. Tried this place in a whim, the atmosphere was not very inviting because the entrance is crowded with coolers. The floor was a dirty-yellow that reminded me of pollen. We received our appetizers after around 20 minutes. The appetizers where decent, but 10 minutes later when we received our Meat Lovers Pizza we where met with a slimy, greasy pizza that was sliding off of its own crust when you picked it up, even if it you fully supported it with both hands. I was left disappointed, and the people I was with still joke about how bad this place is. read more

A true New Yorker restaurant. The closest thing to a bodega spot. Opens lates & the food is made to order. Everything is authentic nothing is box made. The owner has run this business for over 17 years & I see why it's still in business. This gem is golden & I highly recommend not only residential & outside visitors but every true New Yorker/ east coast folks that comes in town looking for the real deal. Devil's Pizzeria is a go-to for me. Their pizza is above average (which means top--tier for NC, I'm used to NYC/NJ pizza) and their pasta is great. They are also the only place I know that serves pasta algio e olio, which is awesome. They get the order right every time, and provide nice sized portions. Highly recommend. read more

Maybe it was because I ordered only 2 slices for a quick lunch but their pizza to me just was not good and very dry. I had to ask for extra marinara which was great and served warm which was nice. The staff was pretty slow and rude. The lady with the red colored hair had a ugly attitude when we asked about the situation with our pizza.

Although I'm a tarheel fan this spot was pretty good lol. Great for a late night bite to eat. The pizza slice a huge!! I also got the mozzarella sticks and some wings. Everything came out hot and fresh. The staff was very nice to me and my group of friends. They weren't taking anymore orders but my friends came in after us and they still took care of them with no problem! The cauliflower pizza was really good also. Visiting Durham since my son will be attending college down here. In our last night before heading home, we were looking for a place for takeout. Happen to see this place and placed and order. My husband and son went to pick up the food. They said the guys in there were very kind and friendly and he would definitely go back on that alone. The food was absolutely delicious. The lemon pepper wings that I ordered for myself were demolished by everyone. The pizza, salad, garlic knots and wings were delicious. So glad I tried this place! I was a little wary of what seemed like a restaurant geared toward hungry college students. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of vegetarian and vegan options on the menu! My hungry, pregnant self couldn't decide between eggplant parm and the grilled veggie sandwich, so I got both! Tried some of each and have plenty left over for another meal. I did the eggplant parm with vegan cheese instead of mozzarella and it was good. The only thing is the eggplant was a little too al dente for me. If the inside were a little more tender, it would've been a home run! The grilled veggie sandwich was good, but of course without the Mayo, cheese, and vinaigrette (which also contains Mayo), to make it vegan, it was a little dry. However, all ingredients inside the sandwich were of good quality. I also liked that they didn't add too many onions. They were cut small and properly cooked, which is huge for me as someone who loathes raw/undercooked onion. Now on to the fries that I got with the sandwich! The fries were crispy, properly cooked with just the right amount of saltiness! Delicious! All that good food, coupled with great service, and you've got a place I'd be happy to recommend to a friend! I'm sure I'll be back for more next time the craving hits me. read more

"Pizza but also fancier Italian on 9th Street in Durham" During Covid-19 times, we ordered from a place I'd never heard of via Uber Eats called "Pasta Fresca Da Giovanni". Apparently, this is the same place as Devils Pizzeria, and they sell food under two headings. Unlike what you'd imagine from the name "Devil's Pizzeria" (basically fast-food pizza for Duke students), Pasta Fresca Da Giovanni was more mid-scale Italian, which frankly is something Durham doesn't have enough of (being heavier on fast-food pizza/ Italian or fancy/ expensive Italian, but having only a few at an intermediate "Olive Garden" level). Pasta Fresca Da Giovanni helps fill this gap nicely, is convenient, and delivers (via Uber Eats)! I ordered chicken parmigiana with a side salad. My wife got Penne ai Funghi con Pollo, and my son got fettucini alfredo with fried chicken on it. The Uber Eats prices looked were not cheap but not bad-- $14 for the chicken parm and $11.50 for the alfredo. However, the quantities were HUGE! I don't know that I've ever gotten a chicken parm that big before... it was two large meals for me, and I eat a lot. It came over a bed of spaghetti with lots of tasty red sauce and cheese. No one in my family finished their food over dinner, so we each got 2-3 meals out of it. And most importantly, everyone really enjoyed their food. We also each got a small bit of foil with buttery garlicy bread bites that were tasty. I will say that the side salad was a little less impressive-- mostly iceberg lettuce with a few cucumber slices and tomato, and a small cup of Ranch dressing. But good for some fiber with that carb-heavy meal. For medium-scale Italian (Olive Garden level, though minus the unlimited great salad/ soup) in Durham, this helps fill the niche. The quality and preparation/ presentation are not as high as say Melo Trattoria, but you'll pay a fair bit less for a very large, still pretty tasty meal here. 4 stars-- I definitely think we'll order from them again! read more
