I travel to Raleigh on biz very regularly since my home office is in the area (previous IBM building). When I'm In Raleigh/Durham I exclusively stay at the Doubletree because of this restaurant. The bar tender Kevin is a local favorite and is fantastic behind the bar - he remembers what everyone drinks!! Have a seat at the bar or the restaurant and have a social conversation with other folks staying at the hotel. Everyone from airline folks to people in town for a convention or a college football game. My point is the atmosphere is wonderful with great people including the staff. My favorites on the entree is the chicken Danielle which is actually like a surf and turf, followed by the shrimp and grits. That said, I also had the Pines salad w Salmon and that is pretty fantastic as well. Fried calamari is super fresh and delicious as well. Literally, I haven't had anything here that I didn't like AND, if you're staying there, you don't have to drive anywhere! I'll come back here again and again. read more

Bottom Line: Not all hotel food is bad! Three of us had dinner and all of us enjoyed our meal.......and we eat out a lot! One table mate is a vegetarian and had a side salad, a plate of grilled vegetables and a side of mashed potatoes. She said that the Champagne Vinaigrette was delicious and the vegetables tasted fresh and well seasoned. Another table mate had the Spinach Salad with Salmon. The salad also had asparagus, cranberries, nuts and goat cheese. She also got some of the champagne vinaigrette on the side and said everything was delicious. Someone had told me to have the Shrimp and Grits. I asked the waitress about the Ribeye and she said it was very good. I told her I was deciding between the two and she recommended the S&G too. WOW! The flavors were a beautiful savory dance in my mouth. It had capers, bacon, mushrooms, roasted grape tomatoes and cheese. To be perfectly honest - the shrimp was the least favorite part of the dish. The blend of the other ingredients and the sauce it created was mouthwatering. We considered going out for lunch while we were in Durham but with two young non-napped kids, the thought of traveling to a restaurant, ordering, waiting, eating and then getting out without a meltdown from the kids which would then result in our own meltdown seemed virtually impossible so we ordered room service instead! It only took about 30-40 minutes and our food was delivered to our room! Prices seemed very reasonable. I got the Cobb salad $9 (HIGHLY recommend!!!!) my husband got the burger and fries $10 (which he enjoyed) and our daughter had a grilled cheese with broccoli $6. The only negative is that apparently their steamer was down and they said they may not be able to do steamed broccoli. Well, it came... Was pretty much raw broccoli though. Ah well. A 20% gratuity is already added to your order along with a $1.50 surcharge. I recall seeing that they were open til 10... At least for room service. Definitely recommend! read more

I ordered "crispy buffalo wings". Tried to at the bar so I could order a drink, was redirected to the host stand. Placed order. Redirected to bar to order glass of wine. Bartender takes order of gentleman next to me. He orders a drink and FOOD TO GO. what is happening here? I place food order 15 minutes before the gentleman. He receives food 5 minutes before me. Wings came out spongy & weak. I could see this mistake if the bar/restaurant was full. The bartender was more concerned cashing out her tickets @ 9:32pm since the kitchen closes at 10pm. I think the bloom is off the rose here. What were nice reviews are now years old and I am not sure what it was, but something happened. My cobb salad was assembled by rote and what little chicken it had was cooked within an inch of its life and dry, to boot. Flavor? What is that? Even the ample amount of bacon didn't save it. The server disappeared after the food dropped, too. Sad to say that one dinner here with a 4 night stay was enough, tyvm. read more

We came here on double date on a Sunday night because a lot of restaurants are closed on Sunday and we didn't have many choices. We realized it's a restaurant hotel when we got there (maybe not the best choice to begin with). But, good atmosphere, good service. However the food took a really really long time. Went here for lunch yesterday with some coworkers. First of all, it took a while for us to be seated. I'd say 7 minutes probably passed before someone came and directed us to our seats. Once we got our order, it took about another 40 minutes for the food to actually come out. Which was kind of ridiculous for what we ordered. We got two Turkey Burgers and two Crab Cake Sandwiches. Can't complain about the Turkey Burger because it was actually quite delicious. The turkey was juicy and the mozzarella with the balsamic glaze complemented each other well. Not a big fan of the pesto mayonnaise. Felt that it was just too salty. Fries were generally good, however some were too salty for my taste. read more

I'm sorry to say this is one of the first bad reviews I've ever left! Staff was great, but drink took 10-15 min (the previous night I sat at the bar and it came right away) then my mini pizza took more than 45 min to arrive after ordering. I asked for the only IPA on tap, took one sip and it was definitely a lager (not an IPA). They kindly switched it to an IPA in bottle, but it was warm! My server was really sweet and said if she could offer something to compensate she would. I expected more from a DoubleTree, even if it is a hotel restaurant/bar. read more

While staying at the double tree for a retreat weekend I ordered room service from this restaurant 3x the first time was outstanding. Steak was perfectly cooked, so were the veggies and the salad was perfectly dressed. I enjoyed it so much I decided to have breakfast the next morning as well. It too was good. Not phenomenal but the portions were large and filling. Sausage was weird, bacon was oily. After a long day of sightseeing I decided on late night room service, I tried the shrimp and grits with the chicken and rice soup since I had seen other reviews saying the shrimp and grits was phenomenal. It was not. The grits were stiff and probably left over from breakfast- same with the bacon. The shrimp were large and plentiful and the flavors were unique but it very much felt like a "use up all the leftovers" meal that happened to come out ok. The chicken and wild rice soup tasted a few days old and was very thick and gelatinous. I would not recommend the soup. Overall the steak dinner was hands down the star of my experiences. read more

Pleasantly surprised! I was super nervous coming to the hotel diggs about 50 minutes before closing. Not many people in which isn't odd in a hotel. The server was friendly, name started with a T (can't remember more than that, it wasn't an easy one!) and she pushed the nachos. They definitely weren't the best I had but for late night food I would get them again. Reasonably priced house wine (4 bucks) so overall not expensive.they accommodated my friends food to make it vegan friendly and didn't mess anything up. She said the hummus wasn't great but again, I would do it if you are just hungry and in staying here. Decent food and friendly staff. read more

Apparently this is a secret great place to eat. We had Thanksgiving dinner here and at first I was really skeptical. It was a great meal and one of the best sangrias I've tasted (not too sweet). Great little find! It's inside the Doubletree Hotel which I don't believe is in the description. I had a delicious Caesar salad and my husband had the crab cakes. We were both very pleased with our selection. The draft beers were also nice selections. The waitress was very friendly, too. read more
