I scheduled a fitting follow-up appointment based on the information provided over the phone, only to arrive in 30-degree weather and be told that my insurance could no longer be used because my last fitting had expired after three months. Fair enough--if that had been communicated to me earlier. When I booked the appointment, the representative specifically stated that I had six months to be seen, which clearly wasn't the case. If the policy had changed or been miscommunicated, a courtesy call before my arrival would have been the professional thing to do. During the app booking the rep had been incredibly insensitive, sounded very hurried and generally unhelpful. This was a stark contrast to the interaction I had with the team previously. In full disclosure, I had been out of the country for some time and this would have been my third appointment since we couldn't find contacts that worked for me. I had high hopes for this place, but unfortunately, the lack of clear communication, transparency and customer service left me disappointed. I won't be back. read more

He is very knoweldgeable about his craft and takes the time to educate his client on what he is doing and why. The staff ensures that all areas are properly sanitized. Everyone wore masks. Victoria, even took a step away to allow me to remove my mask to fully view my face in the frames. I also appreciate the time they took to support me during the frame search process. Love that I can stay right in Mt Airy for my eye care! Found this place courtesy of Yelp, and am very happy to make them my designated Eye Place. It was easy to make an appointment over the phone, and they had great availability. The location is right on Germantown Ave, and I was able to find easy street parking. The office itself is lovely and the playlist was A+. Office staff were very friendly and helpful. Note: Cell service in the office was a bit spotty (and I don't think there was wifi for patients), so download your relevant insurance info or prescription info before you come in! Dr. Herring was great -- both friendly and efficient (as well as being sympathetic to my low-key groaning about needing to be dilated). They are clearly up on their technology, as they had an awesome tool that replaced the need for the dreaded puff test! I opted for the extra fee to do the eye photography (I'm sure that's not the word for it), and I appreciated how Dr. Herring showed me the different parts of the eye and explained how he was reading it. I wish that I'd thought as a new patient to bring over my current prescription and contact brand, but Dr. Herring figured it out despite my totally vague and unhelpful descriptions (me: "the box is... white?"). I've been wearing my new contacts for a couple days now and feel that the prescription is great. I don't feel the need for new glasses right now, but they had a pretty good selection of frames, and I definitely will head there when it's time to update things. Great Customer Service! Awesome Optician and a Caring Staff made for a Smooth Visit! I Plan to get My next Pair of Eye Glasses from Them

I was at Nostalgic Eye Care over a month ago and for a second year in a row (and I have gone for at least a few years), I received an incorrect eyeglass prescription. In addition, when I was there this year, Dr. Herring spent most of the time complaining about another client and barely worked on my eyeglass prescription. I was concerned and explained what happened last year and even asked him to make sure my prescription was correct. I also explained extenuating vision issues and he barely addressed it and continued on complaining about the other client. As it turned out, the glasses he prescribed for me did not work and I had to see another ophthalmologist. I really did not feel like he cared about doing his job well and I don't appreciate the lack of consideration, hearing complaints about another customer, and how much extra time I have spent and money I have paid for his "expertise." It should be noted that at the time, I did call Nostalgic Eye Care and expressed my concerns and never heard back. This is my first publicly posted negative review. read more

I highly recommend making an appointment here for any and all of your eye health care. I was easily able to make an appointment, which ended up being 15 minutes after I called (due to a cancellation). The open atmosphere of the office felt new, clean and modern. The staff (front staff and assistant) were friendly and efficient. Dr. Herring has a warm disposition and is very knowledgable. We discussed the importance of follow-up care (since I had not had an eye exam in over five years) and when I expressed my concerns about glaucoma, he patiently explained all my options moving forward. It's wonderful to have a clinician talk to you with patience and want provide you with all the information you need to make informed decisions. I, also, purchased my frames on-site and they have a wide selection. The team member that assisted me (sorry I don't remember her name) was fantastic. She had me try on a variety of frames because I wanted something different (going for a hipster vibe). I ended up purchasing some great frames by L.A. I was so impressed with this office from my initial phone call to schedule to picking up my glasses a week later. The entire staff was polite, and professional. I was seen on time for my appointment. The lady who helps with the glasses was great as well. I verbalized what I wanted and she pulled them right out of the case. Not to mention the level of patience the staff has because I picked up my glasses Tuesday evening and I have already called back twice with concerns(glasses need to be tightened). Wanted to shop locally vs. going to an overpriced chain. Had a budget of roughly $1000.00 for new glasses and lenses. Walked in around 5 p.m. and was asked if I had a mask to wear. I didn't, so I asked if they had one. Was told yes, but it would cost me $3.00....for a 50 cent mask. I didn't have any cash on me so I had to leave. Very bad business decision to turn a potential cash-paying customer away with $1000 bucks in his pocket for a 50 cent mask. in business you only get one chance to make a good first impression and yours stinks. If the profit on that mask means more to you than the profit on a new pair of glasses then I'll happily take my business elsewhere. read more

Great service before the appointment, and after. Dr. Herring has a real good eye (pun intended!) for helping select the best frames for the face. I LOVE my new frames. I don't want to see 500 frames which all look the same after 5 minutes, I want someone who looks at the frames I'm wearing, and say yea or nay, with confidence, and Dr. Herring does. Although I paid for both an eye exam and a pair of pricey glasses, but I was informed the practice would not share information about my pupillary distance--an essential measurement for purchasing eyeglasses--even though I am a paying customer. Now, if Dr. Herring would like to consider himself a doctor rather than merely an optometrist, he has to follow doctor's ethics and share my own medical information with me. In fact, the FTC "Eyeglass" rule requires optometrists to give you a copy of your prescription so you can shop around and not be trapped in their proprietary practice. How is this different? Dr. Herring helped me out with a kind of odd situation of my own making. I had him order a pair of glasses, and only when they came did I realize they were the wrong ones--my fault. Dr. Herring immediately helped me pick out another pair out of his cases, which ended up being $10 more than the pair I had ordered, and he didn't even charge me the difference. So, to recap, I had him order the wrong pair of glasses, he helped me fix it right away, and then he basically gave me $10 to top it all off.
