Hi all I want to lead with the fact I am not the type to review as I see it trival & harmful to honest businesses, but this place absolutely rubbed me the wrong way. Was visiting from California a couple of weeks ago where respect & decency seems to be a little more 2nd nature. My partner & I stepped in with drinks accidentally in hand; initially paying no mind to signage until I caught glimpse. Laughed it off and was on my way to set my drink outside to enjoy browsing the rest of the store when the shopkeeper made a slick rude remark about it being a "good job" that I could read?? A simple "can you set that outside please?" Does the job. I get y'all having policies but after careful review it seems like you're just comfortable being rude cuz it's your establishment. It's giving miserable 1st, 2nd it's at best a low vibrational tourist metaphysical trap that steals indigenous practices with no recognition. Please save yourself a visit and give your hard earned $ to people who lead with kindness & who deserve it... but hey you might enjoy if you like mean girls who are into the metaphysical, & new age spirituality for aesthetics. read more

This place has really strange vibes. A few years ago I came in and asked the woman working there if she had Wicca spell books and she looked at me like I was insane. She said they didn't carry things like that. They had a bunch of books about Christianity. Which is fine, except that it's a store called 'Notions & Potions', so weird... Now they seem to have more Wicca stuff, but they're almost always rude when I go in - & for no apparent reason. Also they're super patriotic (also fine if that's what you're into). They have been playing patriotic music a number of times, the last time I was in there they were playing this strange 'land of the free' song. There are so many better, legitimate Wiccan/metaphysical stores in New Paltz/Malboro (The Awareness Shop, Ritualist, Luna Enchanted) or Vassar college (Dreaming Goddess). read more

Our recent visit to Notions N Potions was the most magical part of our day in Beacon! Picture an otherworldly oasis tucked away from the bustling business district where you can channel your inner mystic with a wide selection of crystals, incense, tarot decks, gorgeous handmade jewelry, and more. As two gothic / horror enthusiasts, my boyfriend and I felt right at home while shopping here. We spent several minutes enthralled with the inventory, and I especially liked the array of stones and crystals they sell. Each one has special healing properties that are detailed next to the containers, so you can get one for whatever spiritual ailments afflict you. My boyfriend decided to surprise me with a special necklace that was made from a vintage key on a purple cord. The owner, Sheryl, told us that the key came from a jewelry box from the 1920's, which of course fits perfectly with my love for all things vintage. It was a very thoughtful gift, and she let my boyfriend select the key for the necklace he was drawn to most. Sheryl is lovely, and it is very clear how much pride she takes in the shop and in assisting the people who come in here. I can tell she has a wonderful aura, and we were lucky to get the chance to meet her! You have two new loyal customers who can't wait to be back soon! read more

I was looking for a unique gift to give my girlfriend for the upcoming Valentine's Day. She's very into oils, crystals, and all things Wicca, but I'm a little clueless about the traditions, gifts, and what would she might gravitate towards. I loved the logo of the store, and the sweatshirts they had on display. Plus they have cool mugs & shot glasses. The owner, Sheryl, and the store helper Sara really helped me hands on with a personal gift. They explained the meaning behind everything, and what they would mean to a Wiccan. I got a really beautiful necklace, essential oils, and muscle massage lotion. I really appreciated the help they provided. I recommend Notions N Potions to anyone looking for a great boutique shop in the Hudson Valley. Well worth the trip to Beacon. read more

The ladies at Notions N Potions are truly doing holy work by making sure that obnoxious, self important tourists who come in to gawk and disrespect their space feel unwelcome and leave. No one who enters with a healthy appreciation for the magical, beautiful aura in the shop will have anything but a delightful experience there. Sheryl is as precious a gem as the crystals in her inventory. All Beacon shop owners should have such healthy boundaries. The community thanks you! Additionally, prices are excellent, the selection is carefully curated, and the staff is helpful if you go in and behave respectfully - no photos, no samples. This shop sells religious items. Great people, who are personable, knowledgeable, and helpful. An eclectic collection, never fails to inspire, including a selection of custom oils and salves that we use without fail. The 2 that come to mind most quickly are the extreme dry skin salve is unparalleled in my experience. Also, the Van Van oil against Mosquitoes has never failed us in over 3 seasons of barbecues, concerts, Shakespeare,and just chilling on the deck. It works. Little did I think that I would find a store Like Notions 'n' Potions on Main St. in Beacon, right under my nose! A great source of Natural Fragrances, Lotions, Extracts, Incense, Crystals, Candles, Books and all things Wican & more. The more, is a great group of weekend guests for Tarot card readings etc.............. I adored Lawrence! When I mentioned to the owner Sheryl, that the Mosquitoes up here loved me a bit too much; even things with Deet did not work (except to remove my nail polish). She introduced me to a little miracle, Natural Bug spray repelling Fleas, ticks and mosquitos. I was thrilled that it truly worked on me, and could be used on my dog too! No Bitchin Bites here, and no longer a Bug Buffet! read more
