Beautiful store but agree on the follow around. They want to grab stuff out of your hand to hold at register and if you're shopping for a delicate situation god forbid you need to return your item. Only store credit- hummm no sign on front door only small sign on counter and one hanging on wall behind counter that on would need a magnifying glass to even see if knew it was there. When busy you don't even make it up to the counter as they hover and take care of u from all sides. My suggestion would be to have a larger sign on front door or have one of your hovering employees who keep offering to take the stuff out of you hands before your really even sure if you like the item tell you about their only store credit policy I would have not bought to begin with my last purchase. Oh and to stay policy is on receipt. Wtf so it's rung up so no return. Interesting I saw on their website they take returns from online purchases?? I feel discriminated against because I came in. Wacky and bad business practice. Where I work we tell everyone about the extra charge if using a credit card before they actually use it and even tho it's a small thing knowing before hand is key. I shop here once a year for someone in particular so no loss. I'll just give my store credit issued card as a gift to someone else and let them know ahead of purchase the shitty return policy. read more

I just stopped by Sierra Lily because I had a gift card. I was greeted pretty quickly by the staff and they were super pleasant. It was a super cute store and I would recommend spending enough time here to see all of the things that they have to sell. I bought a few things including a pillow mist and a tea towel. The women behind the counter was very kind and wrapped it all up very nicely as I told her I was giving it as a gift. Starting with a "three star" review for now. I've been wanting to try this place since moving to Dutchess County in July and had plans to meet a friend for a pedicure at Dream Girls so figured I would stop into the store today to get my mother-in-law a birthday present. I read all of the reviews on Yelp and thought it would be interesting to see if I was followed around the store. Since I was getting a pedicure afterwards, I was dressed very casually in jeans and sneakers with a shawl over my sweater, hair up in a messy mom bun and no make up. Immediately upon entering the store, an older woman seemed to find me and she did greet me and I acknowledged her but she seemed to hover around in my vicinity for a while. She was helpful and when I needed to know the price of something she assisted me. I can't say that she was hovering around to keep an eye on me. I decided on a pair of earrings for my mother-in-law and she took them to the register to hold them for me. I asked her if they have a greeting cards and she pointed me in the direction of the rack so I chose a card and then continued browsing in the store with the card in hand. When I went to the other side of the shop, a woman that I assumed was the owner was folding something and straightening something up behind me. I continued to browse and selected a lotion and then begin looking at some other stuff and moved towards the back of the store, and again, the elderly employee was again nearby and offered to take the card and the lotion that I had selected up to the register. So yes, I did feel that the employees were hovering although I couldn't tell you for sure whether they were watching me or not. Overall, the store has a great selection of jewelry and soaps and candles and little trinkets that someone like me would love. Prices are indeed steep and frankly I'm surprised to find a store like this in this particular area. So yes, it is a very nice store with prices to match so I will give them another try but if they follow me around the store next time, I'm going to say something and not return. I honestly cannot stand stores where the staff follows you around to be helpful, and frankly would not want to shop in a store that thinks I'm going to steal from them. Hopefully this store is the former. I'll give the store another try around Christmas time and hopefully I can shop in peace without seeing an employee out of the corner of my eye every time I turn. It is a very nice store with some very pretty items but it definitely has that hands-on boutique kind of feel and I prefer to be left to my own devices when shopping. **I do have to say that the return policy stinks. They only give store credit and you are have a 14 day window to make returns with a receipt. So I would suggest not buying anything from here unless you're absolutely certain about it.** read more

Yes, I do understand that theft is a problem but make it a little less obvious, please. I purchased what I needed to and left, not feeling very welcomed. I have been a customer of Sierra Lily for many years. I have always found their selection to be amazing and sales help more then helpful. Unfortunately, that is not what I experienced last week. I went to the store to return a birthday gift I had received. I know their policy is store credit only and I have no problem with that. I also know that they keep a listing of all purchases under the customer name so that if you have to return something they can pull up the item and you don't have to have the receipt. When I entered the store their were customers at the counter so I approached the owner who was standing close by and asked where I should go for returns and she said she would help me. She looked my name up on the computer and said that she had to do some research on the item I was returning so it would be a few minutes. I began to look around the store and she came to me and stated that I had a credit of 108.00 dollars. my sister had purchased the necklace and I knew she had spent 145.00. When I asked why I was not getting the proper credit she said that I was not returning the item that was listed in her computer. Confused I asked her again and she again told me that I was not returning the correct item. My sister was with me and she tried to explain that we were in fact returning what she had purchased. I was embarresed and shocked that she would be accusing me of lying. I asked her if she thought that it could possibly be a mistake on her end ? I was so upset I told my sister that I was leaving and we would go home and get the receipt to show the owner. With that I looked on the counter and she had the receipt all printed out. And there it was, my total of 145.00, again which she told me I wasn't returning the correct item and what I was returning was only worth 108.00. I was so upset I walked out of the store and my sister stayed behind and she did give her store credit. I have been so upset about this situation. I too am a business owner and know that I would never treat anyone in this manner. In telling people about my experience I have come to find out that others have had bad experiences similar to mine. Its unfortunate that I will never shop there again but I urge people to be careful when returning items. If I didn't know the cost of the item I would have been the one that was ripped off. Really lovely store filled with Vera Bradley, a sizeable Pandora charms counter, Hobo Int'l and Bons Bons charm bracelets and much more. Perfect place to purchase gifts and certainly a great place for gift-giving aunts-nieces/mothers-daughters to have wishlists for. Lots of higher end porcelain, I think I saw Lladro and music boxes behind glass columns (but call to check). Boutique style all around, some handmade jewelry and tote bags. Two very capable and professional sales assistants running the counters. They look like they've had years of retail experience and customer service. No problems there. The younger store manager (?) could use an attitude adjustment tho. She has a pronounced morose expression every time I've been there. Running a store is difficult in this economy but you need to look like you appreciate your customers and enjoy your business. It rubs off on customers. I would be inclined to make purchases more often - the last couple of times I just left w/o purchasing. Maybe if you don't deal with her, it's not that big of a deal :) read more

The selection is great , Pandora, Brighton, Vera Bradley , soaps , scarves, baby gifts and much more . They wrap your gifts for free in a pretty Sierra Lily gift bag with tissue and ribbon. They support local artistry as well as many local charities . By far my favorite gift shop in the Hudson Valley ! read more

I stopped in Sierra Lily on Saturday, 8/3/13. Apparently there's a dress code & if you're not dressed up enough, you don't deserve their attention. One sales woman walked by me twice and looked right thru me, another salesman saw me, didn't even acknowledge me, which was rude. One of the younger sales clerks thanked me for coming and actually made eye contact. I've made purchases in this store in the past numerous times and it didn't use to be like this. Since the name change it seems to have a snobbishness to it. As a result ~ I came home and placed a $400 Vera Bradley order on-line. If these businesses want people to 'shop local' then they need to appreciate the people who come in to their stores. They're not even in a posh location so they need to loose the attitude. I love this store. Frequently purchase gifts, jewelry etc. The employees have always been so friendly and helpful. The gift wrapping is amazing. I'm giving 3 stars because of the tall blonde woman, possibly manager or owner ( ? ). I recently purchased a necklace which had broken. I brought it in for repair. It's been a couple of weeks, so I stopped in yesterday to check on the status. Apparently this was a huge inconvenience for this woman. She was rude, obviously had no desire to even pretend to be polite. I didn't go in to complain, and I was not rude. I will continue to shop here, but I will NEVER deal with her again. Visited here while vacationing in the area this week. It is a lovely but definitely upscale shopping experience for the girly-girls of the world.... having said that, even if I lived in the area, it would be a great place to visit once or twice a year for special gift giving. This is a beautiful gift shop with unusual items - loved to shop here. My friend purchased a gift card for my 65th birthday on Saturday. On Sunday at brunch. I unfortunately lost the gift card.When I got home I calledthe restaurant immediately - they hadn't found it. I calledSierra Lily and talked to 2different people both of whom told me nothing could be done without the receipt. LUCKILY my friend still had it. We went to the store on Monday. The clerk was going to put the sale through but her boss would not allow it. My friend talkedto him but he would do NOTHING to help. He said the card was considered cash and basically "too bad." I was so disappointed and angry. My friend was just angry. She will never shop there again. The gift was $50. I feel as a small business owner some accomodation should have been offered - it would have made good business sense and created good feelings for its customers and future customers. What a shame that the boss couldn't see past the dollar signs and lost business because of it! read more
