Came here to celebrate Father's Day 2022 and this place was crowded/full. We arrived at around 6:30pm and ordered shortly after but the food didn't start coming out before 7:30pm due to how many patrons were in the restaurant and the number of large tables being used. I believe that there weren't enough servers at the time that we showed up which was another contributing factor to the longer wait time for the food. Once the food started coming out, it was very fast. I would say that the food was very good. We ordered one of the predetermined # course meals (I believed we ordered the 8 course meal). This included soup, rice, fish, lobster, salt & pepper pork chops, salt & pepper calamari, deep fried shrimp & chicken with a mayonnaise type sauce, a beef & vegetable dish, and a few other things that I don't recall. Parking outside the restaurant is free but because this restaurant shares the parking spaces with other businesses, it is hit or miss whether you will be able to park in the parking lot close to the restaurant. I was lucky enough at the time that I showed up to park in front of the restaurant. My brother wasn't as lucky and parked on the street for free a few blocks away from the restaurant. read more

Was craving Chinese food at late hours and wanted to try a spot outside of downtown. Checked that this place closes at 11pm, perfect, still on time (was 10pm). It's a big space, golden dragons, aquariums, TVs playing Chinese TV shows. Next to the restaurant there is a direct entry to a different billard bar, which adds more 80s martial arts movies vibe to the experience. The lady waitress was super kind. They have some special names for some of their rices. When she explained the Ying Yang rice, I was immediately sold. But she was a little bit concerned for us and suggested another rice which would be more of a conventional fried rice. She was very kind to do that but I said that I do like to try new dishes and flavours and that for sure I will like it. The general Tao was so good (talk about new flavours right? Sorry I was with my gf who is the opposite of me and likes to stick to the basics). The black bean pepper sauce beef was succulent. Full of pepper, and first time I see they leave the bone in the ribs for that dish, normally in other restaurants they won't put the bones so that was cool. The Ying Yang rice is half sweet and sour with chicken and pineapple and half with a white sauce and shrimps. It was very good, but I do understand why she would not suggest it, I can see people not liking the Yang part (the white part due to the sauce) , but if this serves as reassurance , I was surprised that my gf did like it. One of my favorite Dim Sum place in Montreal for a couple of reasons: 1. It has a parking lot. 2. It's close to a shopping area and easily accessible by car. 3. No long waiting lines 4. The food is good and the price is reasonable. There's a reason why I put the food and price last in that list because it's not amazing. You won't find Hong Kong quality in any of the dim sum places in Montreal and that's because ...you aren't in Hong Kong. The food is not good for everyone : don't expect low cal health food and don't expect anything vegetarian (even the bok choy are served with seafood). Don't go there if you don't like seafood or pork. Don't go there if you expect to be served in french.. it won't happen. It's my favorite place because it has a lot of seating, hardly any waiting time and it's great for family Sunday brunch or for a good time with friends. I enjoy their food and their variety of dim sum. They have a good variety of dumplings and lots of fried seafood. I really like their egg tarts. The lady pushing the carts are very nice and the prices are good. You won't get good customer service and you shouldn't expect to get good customer service from that place. The servers are running like headless chicken trying to tend for every table and they are well oiled machines. The tables are cleared as soon as the guests leave to make place for new customers.. that's how they cut down on waiting time. Just like how they do it in Asia. If you want good food and a good time and you enjoy dim sum food, I highly suggest Maison Foo Lam. A nice experience without the glitters of a high end restaurant but you will always have a good time and come out full. read more

This chinese restaurant is not the best in town. However, there's a parking lot, so it's a mega plus for me since I hate having to find parking on the streets. The restaurant is spacious and looks like any typical chinese restaurants. I've been there many times, the food are ok. Not the best, but not the worse that I've eaten. Been there for dim sum and dinner. I'd say that I'd suggest dinner at this restaurant more than dim sum... Prices are competitive, or even a bit cheaper than other chinese restaurants! read more

I went for family meal many times. I dont like their dim sum food since it is too oily and salty. U have to drink many glasses of water once home. The remaining food depends on the day you come. Sometimes is ok. If you go on weekends there are so many persons have to wait a line. read more

Ordered take-out many times over the holidays. And Don't compare them to Toronto or Hong Kong. Dim Sum - 3/5 good to average overall. it was take-out so it traveled well but should be better when dining in. Har Gow, Sui Mai, Sticky Rice in lotus leaves, Chicken Feet, and beef balls Dinner 5/5 Chinese Broccoli with garlic, Sweet and sour Pork, Lobster with Ginger, and Scallions. 4.5/5 The star War Sui Guy. it is an old-school Cantonese Montreal dish that has to order in advance. Many places have it in Montreal, but hard to execute properly. And it has to be ordered in advance and ask for the price since it is an off the menu item. It is chicken skin stuffed with Shrimp ( similar texture to the outside of stuffed crab claw but with shrimp ) that is deep-fried. It is presented with light gravy and on a bed of lettuce. This can be an acquired taste. Unless you are local to Montreal or attending a wedding reception you may never have a chance to taste it. read more

Horrendous customer service. Plates and chopsticks came dirty and greasy. Bathrooms were disgusting. Kitchen and dining area were extremely unsanitary. Food wasn't great, nothing special. Waiter who looked like the owner took the order, was inattentive, rude and wouldn't make eye contact. They did not bring water or condiments which we had to ask for. We were disappointed with the overall experience as the food wasn't great and the service was terrible. We paid for the 80$ tab (which was for 3 dishes = ~22$/dish) which was quite expensive for what it was (rice and noodles) and chose not to leave a tip. The lady at the register then began to yell at us saying that we were required to tip and started yelling to call over her coworker and began to threaten us. She said that she was going to charge us separately for the tip and that we had to pay again. She proceeded to make a huge scene calling the owner and continuing to insist that we had to tip when we calmly explained that the tip was optional and would have been more than happy to give one had we have enjoyed the experience. Came here not because I wanted but because my parents that were visiting from Florida wanted to give it a try. Once again it was terrible! The food is even worse then last time!! Cold, super greasy and tasteless! And don't even get me started on the service. At one point, my uncle got quite annoyed, not to say angry, because he kept on trying to get a waiter's attention and they all pretended to not see him waiving at them like a mad man! Someone I know asked us to meet here for brunch, which I thought was weird because I usually think pancakes and eggs for brunch, not chicken feet and fried squid, but whatever. I love Chinese food so I didn't really care. The place is right next to Shish Taouk on L'Acadie (amazing place btw) and right next to Sharky's pool hall (not amazing at all). It looked like a run-down, decrepit banquet hall for Chinese welfare recipients, but when we got there, all the tables that were occupied had Chinese patrons. Not a white person in sight. We took that as a good sign and sat down. A trolley loaded with tons of little dim sum/eggplant/rice/etc/ baskets comes around every few minutes so you can just take whatever and stuff your fat face like a Roman emperor. They tick off everything you ate on a scoresheet in the middle of your table. By noon the place is in full beast mode - lineups of Chinese families and couples are forming at the entrance and the staff are zipping around like crazy to keep the masses eating. Still no white people. The food was hit or miss - the dim sum was pretty good, the fried calamari was amazing, the spicy buns were awesome, the fried noodles tasted like crappy oily cardboard, and so on. It didn't matter though, because all the dishes are cheap and small, so if something sucks you just toss it aside and get something else. When you get close to finishing, the staff start getting antsy and really push you to finish up and leave. They were exchanging the tablecloth/cover and forks/knives on our table before we had a chance to get up and stretch, which was irritating as hell. Also, no one in there speaks English or French, so if you don't know what you're ordering they won't tell you what it is. Overall average. I got all excited as its called New House of Foo lam. but after my dim sum it did not make a difference. I really wanted dumplings but down town was to far to we went for something near by. The first dish we ordered was not bad looks like a steamed spring roll. But from there it was down hill. Shrimp dumplings were just OK, stuffed eggplant was tasteless to the point where I did not know what I was eating. I saw the Sui Mai and I refused it....no thank. God I miss Guangzhou. Then I asked for my fave Xiao long bap. OMG talk about gross....WTF was that. Everything else sucked....This will be the last time I have Dim sum in Montreal unless its in chinatown and even there its just OK. China or Toronto only. read more

I came to this place for years. Never let me down. Their food already good and tasty. Dim Sum offer lot of choice around 11AM. If you go there at opening time. You won't have lot of choice. Lunch and Dinner are very good too. They close around 3AM. So after the bar. We can still eat. read more

i came around 11:00 am on a Saturday with nine other people to celebrate my grandson's birthday. The place was spotless and the food was great. It made me think I was in China town. Everyone enjoyed the wonderful choices they had in dim sum. I have food sensitivity. So I went a la carte and ordered the best Cantonese chow (Erin 'j) mein . loads of vegetables and chicken yum! Your average Dim Sum place. The place is not fancy like some restaurants in Chinatown, but the food is good. Waiters are cool, not particularly bad. I've always considered restaurant Foo Lam comparable to Chinatown, it's a bit out of the way, but at least you don't have to compete for parking. They have a pretty eclectic menu - as it has Thai and Vietnamese items on the menu. Not to cause any confusion, they have different chefs in the kitchen that specialize in the different cuisines. With live seafood tanks in the dining room as well as a bunch of tis showing different news stations in various Asian languages, the atmosphere is a bit unique. Restaurant Maison Foo Lam shares the same entrance as Sharky's Pool Bar, so fret, just follow your nose. read more

This place is okay for dim sum. We came at 7:00pm for dinner. The reservation was made long time ago, but they still made us wait for long time. The food is good, but the service is aweful. The servant was extremely disrespectful to us. The food came after one hour of wait, and they say that it is the NORMAL wait time. In the end, all they cared was if you can finish eat fast and pay the bill. They impose the 15% tips to the bill, which was handwritten, and the tax was added. No official receit was given to us. We paid cash, so I highly doubt the restaurant will really pay the tax to the governement, and it was more like a 30% tips for such aweful services that we got. I am a native chinese, and had been to a great number of similar restaurants in my life.... this is definitely the worst place ever. read more

Good location on Boul l'Acadie but bad environment. The entrance is filthy and customers are eating next to a home-made casino which permitting indoor smoking. Not wheelchair accessible and poor ventilation. Loud and noisy surroundings. You get food if you are aggressive enough to get attention of your waiter and the lady pushing the dimsum cart.
