the menu of a chinese restaurant

Came in just to get a taste so we got the Dumpling Sampler which came with 15 of the chef's choice of dumplings. Among the sampler we got a shrimp/pork/chive, pork/corn, pork/scallion, pork/chives, pork/dill, and curry beef. All of the dumplings were tasty and seasoned well. I prefer this spot over Sammi & Soupe. The interior is nice and they have a cocktails menu too. One complaint is the dining area smells a bit like cigarette smoke which I think came from the kitchen.

I love this new location! It's got the same great quality dumplings but in a nicer setting. It gets busy fast during rush hours and the service gets a bit slow because of it so keep that in mind. But otherwise, if you like this chain of dumplings, you'll like it here too.

I loved this place. They specialize in dumplings. They make them so well. My buddy said this is what they are known for. The menu boasted so many options to choose from. We got some fried and some steamed. Portions were right too. We had the pork dumplings with cabbage and these were so cooked perfectly and each bite had flavor. Fried and steamed to perfection. Some of the best that I've ever had. The other scrumptious one was the chicken and green onion dumplings. Bite after juicy bite; I had a piece of heaven. Great job!!

They aren't the best spot but they're the 3rd best out of the all the reviews I've read and they do a solid job at that. They have good ingredients, the pork and cabbage is my favourite it doesn't taste cheap and taste pretty fresh. The coriander and lamb was good but since I got them steamed they weren't the best but if I would of got them fried it would of made a world of difference. I've ordered with them twice the first time I wasn't a fan but after the second time I realized they're in fact good. The only thing that sucks was we order 2 of everything thinking it would be 4-8 of each but really it was 15 each so we were stuck with 70 dumplings and ended up spending 60. FYI =peanut butter ravioli are awesome the sauce, a tad of spice but nothing an amateur can't handle.

Update: they've moved to 1675 Boulevard de Maisonneuve O, Montreal, QC H3H 1J6 A M B I A N C E This place is so clean, fresh and new! It's a very casual restaurant that is good for groups! The decor is adorable! C L E A N L I N E S S New location so everything looks super clean and new! O V E R A L L Q U A L I T Y This is definitely a great place for Dumplings! We had the #5 Peanut Butter Dumplings (our usual move!) and they were good. They were very peanut buttery, but were missing something... I couldn't put my finger on it, maybe a spice or oil? They were solid, not the best. Then we went for the Chef's Choice Dumpling Surprise! We thought this was a good choice as you get to try many dumplings! But it's all a surprise, so they don't tell you which kinds you got!! So I can't really comment on the different flavors, but it was an interesting experience for my boyfriend and I to try to guess what we were eating! I must say these Soup Dumplings are well done! The dough is so good! It is thick and doesn't really fall apart! They're also filled with a lot of tasty soup!! You get 15 dumplings, of 5 different flavors. So three of each! It was definitely fun! C O S T $ W A I T T I M E S Usual dumpling wait times. But we got there and there was no line which is GREAT! We sat down right away which was nice! P A R K I N G & L O C A T I O N New location, on Maisoneuve super close to Guy-Concordia metro. So yeah, paid parking and you'll probably have to walk!

An unexpected surprise of a dumpling shop! Hard to believe I've walked by it for 3+ years and not tried them. Guess it is a failure of judging a place by its exterior. My to-go fried dumplings were amazing -- crisp and delicious. And not that expensive for the quantity you get! Highly recommend.

This place is a staple for soup dumplings and they deliver on this. They started off in a "hole in the wall/semi basement" a couple blocks away from this location. The new location is now bright and cleaner but let's be honest, people aren't coming for the ambience but for the food. Be prepared to wait as there is always a line. Although it may look long it moves fairly quick but that also means you'll feel a little pressured to leave once you're done with your food. They are quick to serve you but hard to get a hold of if you need them again until it's time to clear your table. They're running a busy business and it shows but they'll be polite about it the whole time. We ordered the spring rolls to start but that was a mistake, they were small and pretty bland. Order the dumplings! They have them fried or steamed and many different options of fillings including some vegetarian. We had the pork and coriander and they were excellent. You can also take out if you don't finish (it's very easy to over order with all the great options). All in all, good spot of a quick, cheap and easy meal but don't except anything more!

A pleasant atmosphere with crowd-pleasing dishes. I was elated with my jellyfish appetizer! Get your umami hit with a sweet and spicy kick. The jellyfish was almost crunchy; the consistency was unlike anything I've eaten before! I would recommend trying this dish if you're feeling a little adventurous. The dumplings were all delicious and made in-house. I found it fun that you can make your own sauce with the choice of soy sauce, vinegar, chili oil, etc. Overall, I'd recommend this location to friends and family. I would definitely eat at Qing Hua again as the soup dumplings were fun but didn't explode all over the place and didn't break the bank! A few frivolous points: My friend and I were 2/3 finished with our appetizers when the steamed dumplings arrived. This was inconvenient because I am a creature of habit and like to finish my appetizer before the main dishes. Maybe it's a normal practice in dumpling restaurants?! I did end up breaking my habit and went back and forth between my appetizer and the dumplings, but by the time I took my first dumpling it was starting to become lukewarm. One of our orders was incorrect. Instead of 15 fried dumplings we got 6 steamed dumplings. The sever dropped it off and ran to another table. We did quickly gain the attention of a different server who was able to give us the correct order.

I haven't been to Qing Hua for a few years but I'm glad to see it's still as popular as ever. This was THE place where I first discovered my love for dumplings. We came on a Tuesday evening, around 8:00pm, and had to wait to get seats! I couldn't believe how busy they were. The menu is dumplings, dumplings and more dumplings. Although there is a lunch menu available Monday to Friday (11:00am - 3:00pm). The inside looks exactly the same. I like how you can peer through the kitchen window and see all the dumplings being made in house. They're lightning fast! We ordered and had our three dishes in no time. We may have gone overboard but hey, leftovers are never bad. - Shrimps with pork and leek (#21) ($9.99) - we got one order boiled and the other steamed. Each order gets you 15 dumplings and the filling is nicely stuffed. Don't forget these dumplings have soup inside so be careful with your bites. - Pork and dill (#31) ($8.99) - first time trying out dill in dumplings. Loved it! Not overpowering but the perfect balance. These were my favourite of the night. I need more dill in my life. - Mix flavour dumpling soup (#3) ($7.99) - I also wanted to try their dumpling soup out which was totally unnecessary for two people (10 dumplings included) but it was way better than expected. They throw in an assortment of dumplings, I'm assuming extras/reject ones but I liked it. The broth was surprisingly light and flavourful. 40 dumplings later (well, with a few for home), we left very satisfied. Qing Hua is the OG when it comes to dumplings in town and I'm happy to report it's still as good as ever.

3.5 stars New location! The place is immaculately clean and the staff were very attentive. You have the option of steamed or pan fried dumplings and can choose a half/half option as well for $0.50 more. We tried the pork and leek dumplings and the pork and pickled cabbage. Both were juicy on the inside and seasoned fine. We found the actual dough to be slightly disappointing because the edges would dry quickly and the pan fried dumplings could have been more crispy/fried. Overall, good deal for the price (average $11 for 15 dumplings) and convenient location for those who live around Concordia or downtown.

I took an extra long walk down St. Catherine to find this small street level shop. It almost seems out of place mixed in a quiet area with almost all Middle Eastern restaurants and bakeries. There is only one waitress barely caring for all of the customers and she does not have time for your needs. A complimentary pot of tea is served. I also appreciate the namesake specific dinner wear that is served with the logo. There are different condiments on the table for you to mix together as your own sauce recipe. I recommend 1/3 ratio of each. The dumplings here are served in large quantities per order, which range from $9-12 CAD. Some previous reviews noted that they compare with soup dumplings, or Xiao Long Bao. From the appearance of the crescent shaped pillows, this did not appear true. However, once you bite into the skin, your mouth will fill with hot, delicious soupy goodness. After eating XLB a multitude of times in NYC, this familiar experience was long overdue. The skin is thicker and has more chew to it, but that is actually what I prefer. I ordered the shrimp and pork dumplings, which were perfectly seasoned with a sweet and salty balance topped off with a ginger fragrance. My only complaint is that the shrimp inside were not deveined. One order is definitely enough per person, and more than that would be overkill. I do regret not ordering a vegetable based appetizer to break up all of the meat intake. Maybe the cold cucumber salad would be a good pairing in the future.

These dumplings have been excellent virtually every single time I have ordered them. I'm new to the soup dumpling game as it's only been about 5 years since I had my first taste. The best way to eat these is steamed and at the restaurant. When you order it for delivery, the dumpling experience is somewhat dulled. These awesome pockets of meat and juice depreciate with time like a questionable investment. Thirty minutes in a styrofoam container, followed by a quick 30 second zap in the microwave, renders them a little chewier and grittier than the fresh product at the restaurant. Nevertheless, the flavours are still there. My favourite is the lamb coriander, followed closely by the the shrimp/pork combos. Beef curry is also rich and hearty. The soy/vinegar dipping sauce is unique and perfect for these dumplings. This is real stick to your ribs food that fills you up quickly and efficiently. The average price for 15 steamed dumplings is about 13 dollars. You can get them fried as well, but I find the flavours do best when they can breath rather than being obliterated by the frying process. The batch that I ordered last night tasted slightly less seasoned than on previous occasions. Also, the filling was a little less smooth than I had remembered. I don't know if they have changed them, or if this is in my head. This is why I took the rating down to a 4 rather than a five. I'll make a point of eating at the restaurant soon and will be more than happy to bump it back to a 5 star if the dumpling is consistent with the past. Either way, whether it's 4 or 5 stars, we're talking about a great product. Either way, these dumplings are a great experience, especially during the colder months. Like most food, they go really well with a bottomless glass of wine or beer. Good times.

Service here is terrible. We came here around 1pm and there's really not a ton of people. We were seated right away but no one took our order until 20 mins later. We literally had to flag someone down. When we were ordering, we kept repeating we wanted the "pork and corn" and the waiter kept asking us "what number" and we said "pork and corn, uh 26?" And it turns out 26 was "pork and leek" and 26A is "pork and corn". So after repeating it two - three times, we still got the wrong order just because the wrong number was given which is super frustrating. No other numbers on here had an A or a B so I can see why my husband missed it. Furthermore, taste wise and texture, it's nothing compared to Mai Xiang in Chinatown and Sammy's soup dumpling. So skip this place if you're looking for a good dumpling house with decent customer service in Montreal. Disappointing.

The Long Version: I love hand pulled noodles, so my husband and I had lunch here. He's not a fan of noodle soups but agreed to come and just have appetizers, lol. I got the small-sized Spicy Mushrooms and Chicken Noodle Soup ($13.99). I chose the #6 size noodles which is the thickest noodles they offer. My husband got the imperial rolls ($4.50 for 3) and the fried shrimp wontons ($11.99 for 10). I really enjoyed my soup, especially the thick noodles. They were chewy and the right amount of softness. There were chicken pieces in it, mushrooms and a delicious "tofu sausage." It also had 2 pieces of baby Bok Choy and some pieces of kelp. I wished there was more vegetables. The soup also had green onions and cilantro. The broth was a tiny bit spicy from the chili oil. I am happy that this soup does not have sesame seeds in it, so I didn't have to ask them to hold the sesame seeds. Lol. My only complaint would be that the broth was a bit too salty and too oily for my tastes. I still thought it was good though. My husband enjoyed his appetizers. The imperial rolls were vegetarian. I didn't have any, but they looked like nothing special to me, haha. However, the hubby liked them which is what matters. The fried shrimp wontons looked good and he liked those too. Service was pleasant and efficient. The decor is casual with some fun touches. I liked the rotating lanterns with lights on the ceiling and the drawings of a big squid and clams on the walls. I would return to try their other noodle soups and also their handmade dumplings. Review #10 (2026)

My husband prefers pan-fried dumplings over soup dumplings, so he got the pork and mushroom dumplings ($14.50) and there was a $1.99 surcharge for pan-frying (the base price is for steamed). My Laksa was huge and delicious. The broth was so rich with coconut milk and a bit spicy. It was really flavourful. The noodles had a nice chew to them. The soup also contained some decent-sized shrimp, velvetized sliced chicken, cubes of tofu and a boiled egg. I wished it had some vegetables in though because I felt very unhealthy eating just starch and protein, lol. I did enjoy it though ;) I had one of my husband's dumplings and it was good. It had ground pork in it and chopped up mushrooms. There was a slight gingery taste to it. I liked it and my husband liked them too. Service was very pleasant. The server refilled our waters regularly and I like that the water had ice in it and was very cold. The restaurant is not too large and has seating on a main level then up a few steps they have 4 more tables of 4 by the front window. I was expecting a more flavored experience and maybe that is not what they do or I could have ordered differently. The menu is huge so it is hard to know where to start. We went here because of the good Yelp reviews. Were we arrived in Chinatown there were many other places that looked great, so we loitered at the door for a minute while deciding what to do. As we loitered a family came out and noticed us and asked if were were going to Keung Kee. We said we were thinking about it and they said just go, it is the best restaurant in Chinatown. Sold. We went in, up the stairs, waited a bit, and got a table. This is the kid of place you need to bring a lot of people because that is whet it is built for, the menu is extensive, and the portions are huge. We puzzled over the menu then ordered our food. We wanted a bottle of cold sake and the waiter brought it in an ice bucket. Nice. We started with the pork dumplings. The dumplings were very goof but came in a hot thick sweet peanut sauce. With a lighter sauce these would have been outstanding. The scallop was huge and had a bunch of stuff on it. There was some good scallop flavor but it was masked with all the stuff that tasted like old oil. The noodle dish was good but also had some old oil flavor coming from somewhere. All the meats and vegetables were nice and fresh but the good sauce I think was the source of the oil. We saw a table next to us had the pork chops and was asked, what are those? So we got that too. The chops were thin bone in with a batter fried then soaked in a vinegar sauce. These would have been good as our only item with a bowl of rice. Our co-eaters there had many good looking things. I would give this a try again but would bring a few more people so we could try more stuff. Total for all that including the sake was $100 Canadian. Not bad!
