If you need a locksmith, look no further! Alex @ Nova Locksmith is the person you're looking for! What a lot of people don't know, is that if you call any of the first 10 numbers on Google for locksmiths, you're calling a 3rd party call center that will dispatch a locksmith by your number along to a bunch of companies and then for an hour straight a bunch of different locksmiths will call you non stop! They'll also lie about their ETA and keep you waiting. I didn't know this was an issue in SF, but after some research I realized I wasn't alone. So once I found Nova on yelp, I requested a quote online and Alex called me back quickly and not only showed up when he said he would, but also gave a direct number so I don't have to call a dispatcher to get through to him. My neighbor was locked out, and asked me to help her get back in. Happy to report, Alex showed up, helped her get in, and charged a very reasonable amount. read more

I contacted Alex to change the keys on my apartment as well as address an issue of my lock getting stuck when used. He was able to change the keys without any problem, but said that the lock getting stuck was a door alignment issue which is very expensive to fix but as a "favor" he would trim the metal plate to temporarily address the issue. Two days later, I was experiencing the same issue with the lock getting stuck so I called him back. His solution? Completely cut out the metal plate, fill it with some sort of wood putty leaving the door totally shaky and loose. It did not feel safe at all. Isn't that the number one priority of a locksmith? When I called him back the third time, he reiterated that cutting out the metal plate was a "favor" that he did for me, and that there is no other solution other than calling a door company to fix the "alignment issue". He also said that the metal plate I had was so rare and unique that there is no way he could replace it. Luckily I called another locksmith, who came out the same day and was able to replace the metal plate and fix the issue within 30 minutes. Essentially I had to hire someone else to fix the job that Alex did. Moral of the story-- save your time and money and find another locksmith, unless you want the same project to be done twice. Or if you don't know how to fix something, then just say that. read more
