My review is not so much a review but a recommendation. I appreciate the program. I understand the long wait for the initial visit but there needs to be a better system in place to get those who are there just to pick up glasses. There was a wait time of 2 hrs just to pick up the glasses that were ready. Waiting area was crowded and Im sure it could have been minimized by getting those who would only spend 5 mins or less out of the building. And would definitely recommend additional training for the front attendant by the name of Ester. Not sure if she was overwhelmed or overworked but that should be no reason to be short with people/Veterans when being seen. I would hope that she either gets additional training or help on a daily basis. read more

Went for the initial exam. Very extensive- they checked everything- exam went for approx 2 1/2 hrs. Friendly & thorough students and the teaching doctor was great. Picked out the glasses and got scheduled for the follow up appt. I have to mention, that this was all "no charge", since I was a veteran using their "free for veterans program" While trying out my new glasses, noticed the vision was significantly blurry, and made a note to tell the doctor. On my follow up appt. , it was a different set of students and a different doctor. When I explained that I couldn't see out of my glasses, the doctor basically said "i needed to get used to them", and wouldn't re-examine my vision. I was at the NovaSoutheast University Eye Care in 2022. Linda Rouse was in charge. They bait and switched me on my 300 dollar allowance for my eye ware. Thing is they didn't have the courage to too tell me at the point of purchase. They let me think I was ordering the Ray Bans but when I picked them up they were not RayBan but A version called Smilin Eyeware. A cheap knock off. You get what you pay for when you let students do your eye care. Never again! read more

I couldn't have asked for anything better since it has saved my life away from many nightmare experience trips to other horrible eye doctors from anywhere iikev BP eye insitute in miami! Great experience. You get 3x the attention that you'd get in a regular environment as you're attended by students but these are students within 4 months of graduation and a professor with more knowledge than you'll find anywhere. They corrected my vision issues that my regular eye dr was not able to do for 4 years. read more

11/2/2015 - Can you believe it has been since the early 90's that I had an eye exam done? I think it was about time. I have been experiencing "floaters" and tired vision at night, almost blurry for the past 2 years. I am the only one in my family who does not use glasses, so I figured it was probably time. I also had a birthday recently, so I figured, this is all signs of getting older. I called Nova Southeastern University, Eye Care Institute to make an appointment on October 30th. I spoke to Hilda, and I must say she was amazing!!!. She walked me through the appointment process, explained that NSU is a teaching institution, how long the appointment would take, locations, address, appointment time, etc. She also let me know to arrive early because I needed to fill out new patient paperwork. She was professional, knowledgeable and friendly. I am very happy with the customer service I received from Hilda. I walked in to their clinic in Davie. I was greeted by Roy at the front desk. The process went smoothly. Roy was very helpful. Soraya Lopez, was my Optometry student. When she called me, she introduced herself and shook my hand. We walked to the spacious exam room. I explained to Soraya that this was my first exam in a long time. Soraya made me feel at ease, she explained every single exam she did, constantly asking; "Do you have any questions so far"? Her bedside manner and professionalism is top notch. I've never had my eyes dilated, I honestly did not even know what it was. She put all my worries at ease and I had it done. After I had the most thorough exam I've ever had, Dr. Reed came in to talk to me; she ran another exam and let me know that what I was experiencing was normal. To my surprise, I still have 20/20 vision! YAY! However, I was prescribed reading glasses, a very low prescription. They have a beautiful optic right in their lobby, very convenient to get your prescription. They also offer many brand names as well. I highly recommend the Eye Care Institute in Davie for yours and your family eye exam. It was a great experience from beginning to end. read more

I have been going to Nova since 2003. Diagnosed with Keratoconus, a condition that can cause Blindness. They specialize in this condition. The Dr's & students are Magnificent, but in 2015 the girl that does the referrals or get authorization from your insurance companies took 4 months to order my contact lenses and they NEVER came. So I left Nova. Came back 08/27/19 only to learn that she was FIRED & they have a new girl doing her job. I simply explained to her about my last experience and why I left. I will not wait around on them to say that my insurance haven't approved them to order my lenses when they never sent the request in frim the get go. This girl has a bad A** Attitude and very unprofessional. She talked over me and she lied to me as well. So my insurance Company is awaiting for the request so they can authorize it. I feel that thus referral girl will not be there long either. If it wasn't from the love i have for the Dr's & Student Dr's I would leave Nova for good. It's a way to speak to anyone. So good luck to all who need to have authorization for them to order your contract lenses. read more

Horrible experience from the poorly trained and impatient. I went into the eye institute after having nothing but praise for the dental clinic. My eye exam was impressive, the student and doctor both top notch, just as i had always experieced in their dental clinic. Now for the bottom to drop out of what has always been great value and proffesionalism. I finished my eye exam and went directly to have my lenses replaced to my new prescription. I was greeted by one a dozen girls chatting away and when i asked if i could have new lenses put into my frames (only a year old) she indicated that it was not possible and i had to choose new frames..... I clearly asked if I could do it at my regular optomotrists and she said, NO. I asked if the frames had any value and she said no. There was nothing wrong with the frames, the lenses were badly scratched and could not wear them. I asked her to discard them in that case and she placed them in the trash beside her. My request was to find a pair of frames that were as close to the ones i just discarded, frameless type. After showing me several pairs of frames that did not even resemble what i asked for i had asked another girl for some help. I went along with their attempt to find somthing comparable and after trying on about 6 pairs that i was not satisfied with i could feel the girls loosing patience and one girl actually laughed at me with a pair she asked me to try on. I reluctantly made a choose on frames that i was fairly ok with... after choosing the lenses i placed a $350.00 deposit . The following day i contacted my optomotrist to see if the info i was told about lense replacement was correct and i was told i was given very bad information and i could have new lenses the same day if i had not thrown out the pair she said had no value and could not be re-lensed. i brought them a pair of other frames i had and got just that, new lenses in old frames. Now i am furious that i have wasted $350.00 on frames i do not like, not refundable and with a small hope i may like the frames if i saw them again i went back after several months to look at them. Again greeted by the flock of floozies and when i asked for the frames i was handed a box, never asked to be seated, just handed a box which contained the glasses i ordered, covered in finger prints and 2 black ink spots on the lenses i walked to a mirror. When i indicated they were blurry from the dirt on the lenses one of the girls shouted across the room that its problably that my vision has changed since it has been so long since i ordered them. i said nothing and handed her the dirty lenses. Another woman came out from back and said if I dont purchase them now I lose my deposit. Duhhhh. that made my mind up right there.... There is no reason in this economy to have uneducated bitchy pushy people in front of a paying customer. Do yourself a favor if you need great eye exams use their staff, if you need lenses and frames go anyplace else, i am SURE your going to have a better experience and wont lose a $350 deposit and perfectly good frames. read more

The worst experience ever, first I called to make my yearly eye appointment plus contact exam and they informed me they accepted my insurance (Aetna) when I went in to the appointment they said it wasn't covered and I had to pay $400 for everything these people are just taking money away I went to another optometrist and the price was totally worth it. And for the contact lens I had to pay $670 which was way out of my league and spending limit just be careful with these money hungry people they should be ashamed of lying to people. read more

New to the area, I scheduled a new patient appointment with the NOVA Eye Center. When I called for this appointment, I first asked if their clinic treats Double Vision- they replied that they had never been asked that question, but they would check for me, and the answer was Yes. I was asked if I am comfortable with a 2 hour comprehensive exam, that would be performed by a student, or a Resident Doctor, followed by an examination with the Facility Doctor. I indicated that, yes, I would be comfortable with this. With my initial appointment scheduled, I was very impressed that NOVA appears to be thorough from the start. The day of my appointment, I was examined by a Resident Doctor who did the very thorough examination. In her exam. she found that I have asymetrical nerves in my left eye, possibly indicating Glaucoma. The Resident Doctor recommended I return for an Eye Scan, for further evaluation. When I returned for the Eye Scan, those results indicated that I did not have Glaucoma- once again I was very pleased with their thoroughness. The Resident Doctor that I saw at this appointment asked me if I had ever been referred for eye surgery, and I replied that I had asked the first Resident Doctor about this, and was told that I would not be a candidate for surgery as my eyes are not stable, as my vision changes twice a year. I was then asked if I had ever been referred for Eye Therapy, to which I replied no. This Resident Doctor then recommended that I come back for an appointment to determine if I would be a candidate for the Eye Therapy. Another visit back to NOVA, and again, a very thorough examination by a student, who consulted with the Facility Doctor. With their findings, I am now scheduled for further testing, such as MRI, etc., and NOVA is requesting my medical records from my Eye Doctor in Virginia. Once I have the additional tests completed, I am already scheduled to start Eye Therapy Treatment one week later. I cannot stress how thorough the students and Resident Doctors have been with my care, and their examinations are then followed by an examination by the Facility Doctor. Because of this, I feel very comfortable and confident in their ability to treat my double vision. NOVA is a teaching school, and I feel that I have received the very best of care. I would highly recommend the NOVA Eye Center for your examinations. read more
