Novato Glass installed a frameless shower door 12 years ago. Recently we raised and leveled our home in Corte Madera. As a result the shower door went out of alignment. I called them to see if they could adjust the door. They came out and trued the door back to its aligned position. Terrific work! Also, they did this for no charge as a customer service. So, someone came to measure, which happened to be the owner of NG, Rick. Then, I paid a deposit for the job by phone, and two weeks later when the technician came to install the glass he informed me : 1) only one pane, instead pf 2 was ordered and 2) the measurement/ size was incorrect. So, I called and spoke to the owner, Rick. Although I was polite and understanding of the errors), he informed me a decision had been made to refund my deposit. Just by describing my desk and measurements, we achieved the perfect cut and thickness. I am SO happy with my glass topped desk. We are working a lot more from home so it's a big upgrade. I have been lucky enough to have worked with the family-owned and operated company for the past 15 years (although they have been in business many years longer) but I am grateful that the business has continued to continue to service the community of Marin. Rick Matthews, one of the owners, has gone above and beyond in terms of ensuring my Millguard windows were excellently installed. I never had a single problem nor issue with them. I have also made the occasional stop to pick up new or repaired screens - I was amazed by the ease of ordering (I just put the banged up scream on the table and Mrs Matthews measured it and I was free to go. However, being one of a curious nature I had questions ranging from ease of fire escape pulls to different types of screen - will this thicker one make the room darker, will it deter birds and so on. My next big question had to do with a bottom line question and whether it was a better fiscal choice to replace old yellow glass door squares or just buy a new door. The estimator was right there and ran through an approximate quote (he was entirely fluent in the neighborhood and original door styles and could tell me about what a replacement cost would be. He then, after I shared my concerns that this was an entire DIY project if we had any chance to save money. He was more than helpful and provided me with a litany of options including bringing the door in to have the work done in house versus on site, the glass choices and more. I then asked a bottom line question - would it be better to just buy a door? He said not necessarily. We ran through options on that scenario as well. My realtor suggested I call Novato Glass for replacement of several large floor to ceiling double-paned windows. When Rick called back, he made it clear he couldn't come till next month because he is so busy. No problem, but when asked about an estimate appointment for next month, he said that he was actually busy until October. When I told him that would be okay, he said, "Well, we don't book out that far." I asked how I book an appointment then and his response: "Just keep calling." Don't think so Rick. RUDE Absolutely rude!! If you have a choice, take your business elsewhere. I should have read through the yelp reviews for Novato Glass. I called for an estimate, got a quote over the phone from a gentleman who was very nice (I think his name was Paul, but could be wrong). A few days later I called with more exact measurements (there was a difference of about an 1/8 of an inch). The woman who helped me, Sue, was short but polite, she asked me a few questions about my project for which I needed to confirm with my contractor, so we agreed I'd call back in a few. Upon calling back a third time is when everything went wrong. I didn't even get a chance to get the woman's name, she was short, had a terrible attitude and did not want to answer my question which involved a discrepancy in the estimates I got. When I politely pushed back to get an answer she got louder and more attitude. I asked if it was a bad time for my call and if it would be better for me to call at a later time. She cut me off and got louder, by this point I had to raise my voice for her to hear me over her own voice cutting me off, I explained I was feeling like there was some animosity coming through, she kept cutting me off and was yelling, I finally said I would take my business elsewhere and hung up. It was a completely unnecessary exchange between two strangers, that woman should absolutely not be working in a position where she interacts with customers. It's been a long time (thankfully) since I have encountered such a plainly rude and angry person. Unfortunately, I don't think this was a random, one-off encounter based on all the reviews complaining about the rudeness and poor customer service. For her sake, I hope she chills out and let's the light back in. I can only imagine how miserable and challenging life must be if she walks around with that attitude. I was referred to Novato Glass by the contractor who built our home 12 years ago. A window from the supplier had fogged and needed new glass. I didn't know whether it would best to try to go through the manufacturer or a local company. I called Novato Glass and then received a prompt visit from Tom. To his great credit he said they would be glad to do the work, but under the circumstances for the particular window, he suggested I have the manufacturer supply the new glass and install it. We have a big house with a lot of windows, and we like supporting local business - so far in our three years in Novato this has served us well, but not with Novato Glass. In January of 2015 I decided it was time to replace some screens. I made an appointment for someone to come measure for replacements, but it never happened. The person was sick, rescheduled, out sick again.... Well, it happens, right? I didn't worry about it too much. Figured we could revisit in a few months. May comes along, and now we're thinking we may want to replace some shower glass too. We're not sure if we want to do a little replacing/updating, or just save up to do a major remodel - but figured we could get an estimate *and* get the screens measured and an estimate for that at the same time. Sounds easy, right? Silly me. 1. The only estimate we got was for the shower glass. 2. The estimate for the shower glass wasn't what we actually wanted, as it was a straight replacement. We wanted some options, but we couldn't get that sorted out because, 3. I never got a response when I asked for more info, including a request for an estimate for the screen replacements. 4. The only response I ever got was a resenting of the estimate for the shower glass that we didn't want. Now it's been another month or so, and I'm giving up. It makes me sad as I drive by this business every day, but they are just not responsive enough for me to waste more time on. I suppose our small jobs are a waste of time for them - but I'm not going to consider them for any bigs jobs considering the dismissive customer service I've received this far. read more

I called Novato Glass for a quote on a glass cover for a table of about 4x6'. The original quote was a little high compared to other places I called so the woman answering the phone kindly reduced the price. The glass was safely delivered on a rainy, windy day by a very nice young man. The glass cover was perfect. The only tiny snag was that there was a very sticky sticker on the glass that took about 30 minutes to remove (I began with Goo Gone but it left streaks where it ran so we had to flip it over with help and clean it a couple more times). I will use Novato Glass when I have a larger job since they deserve our business for being pleasant, competent, timely and competitively priced. read more

Some reviews just can't wait. We had a broken window in our garage. I yelped window places in Novato and came up with Novato Glass who had the best yelp reviews. These reviews were spot-on! I was given a quote over the phone after a window technician came to measure. The price was reasonable so I ordered the window by putting 1/2 down. They called me within 4-5 days to say my window was ready. The technician was supposed to come today to put the window in. Jason arrived not only on time, but a tad early, this NEVER HAPPENS!! People are usually late. I was pleasantly surprised. Jason replaced the broken window quickly and efficiently and was just so kind in answering all of my questions. These people are THE BEST!!! We had two accidents that required tricky repairs: 1) The slide on our fifth wheel caught an open wood-and-glass cabinet door as it was closing. The bent wood frame in the broken door, once repaired, was still "wonky." Novato glass was able to replace the glass in both cabinet doors so precisely that there was no evidence of the accident and the new glass was much better (prettier), and stronger. Sue was extremely helpful and patient in helping us choose just the right replacement glass. Then 2) our 13 lb. cat took a flying leap into one side of a beveled glass coffee table. Again, we replaced both sides, which we thought were equal. Careful measurement by Novato Glass made sure that the replacement pieces fit perfectly in each opening which were only slightly (infinitesimally) different. The cat jumped onto and paraded around on the previously broken side. It held! Five stars for helpfulness, great communication, precise technical skills. read more

I promised to write Novato Glass a good review on yelp so here it is! I broke a window on accident trying to get back into my room after locking my car keys before a work day (NoOooOooO!!!!!). Ok comic relief aside, Novato glass cut me a new piece of glass and siliconed it in for much cheaper than I was expecting to pay (the rubber spacers were cracked/broken from such an old window). The price was up front and no negotiating needed. It was the lowest in the North Bay. I dropped off my window frame at their location (easy to get to; take De Long Blvd exit off the 101) on a Wednesday and the order was ready to be picked up Friday. The service is friendly, good spirited, and you can always get someone on the phone. They'll send out someone any time for a free estimate if you're not sure how much it might cost you. I recommend them if you need any broken window replaced (as per my good experience!). Best of luck yelpers! read more

Novato Glass appears to be the best in town, if you ask me. They were a big help in sending someone to do an estimate the same day I contacted them. I did not even have to be present for their guy to do his review. They ordered the glass and installed it in a couple of days, expediting the request at my urging as the broken window was a security issue in my home. All communications were either done by phone or email, so I never actually met any of their staff in person as I was not home when they did the estimate or installation (my wife was and she hardly had to talk to them). To me, it felt like once I got a hold of Novato Glass, it was a ridiculously easy task to get that window fixed. Someone named Rick called me with questions about the measurements and was extremely rude and dismissive. The order was less than a thousand dollars but I would have expected better service and certainly a better attitude from a neighborhood vendor.
