We love stopping to play here if we are in the Deland area. Freedom Playground has plenty of parking, bathrooms, pavilions with picnic tables, and playground equipment that can be used by a wide range of ages and body abilities. I love that the park has one main entrance gate to keep kids contained and also has the little kid area separate from the big kid area. There are accessibility features like wheelchair accessible ramps for the playground equipment and a ground level merry-go-round. There's plenty of slides, climbing and obstacles, a zip line, pirate ships, pretend play houses, and all the features you would want in a playground. I love the nods to Florida with multiple gators throughout! Freedom Park is a Florida gem!

From what I've read online, DeLand faced the exact same issue that so many municipalities around…read morethe country have faced and continue to face regarding what to do with their playgrounds. At one point in time it was a thing to build these large destination playgrounds made out of wood. While a nice idea on paper, eventually the upkeep proves to be problematic and expensive. Eventually the municipality is faced with the hard choice of costly renovations that will need to be redone in the not too distant future, demolishing the structure or trying to replace it with something more modern/contemporary. Either way it equals a lot of money that usually is nowhere to be found. Thankfully a few years ago DeLand along with residents, area companies, school children and a newly formed non-profit committee figured out how to replace the original wooden structure. Amazingly over 300K in private donations were raised along with DeLand kicking in the rest and what you have today is an amazing structure/facility. In my own area there have a been a few success stories with places like this: www.savekidscastle.org/ But there have also been a few mismanaged disasters with places like this: articles.mcall.com/2004-11-19/news/3571642_1_playground-jungle-gym-time-capsule What works here: * Lots of parking * Solidly clean bathrooms * Lots of shaded areas * Super safe recycled rubber ground which means no tracking mulch into the car * A very needed water fountain * Lots of different structures/play areas/misters that offer a ton of diversity What doesn't work: * At least when we were here the zipline was in sad shape. It needs to be raised up or just gotten rid of it because it was way too low to be enjoyable. I don't want to lay on the hyperbole but honestly aside one other park (Kids Castle in Doylestown, PA) this place is the nicest that I've ever seen and even though my kids are arguably a bit on the too old side to be enjoying a place like this, they still did. Great job DeLand! What an awesome place for the community!

4 reasons to come to this park. ***NEW INFORMATION***…read more There isn't any fee for everything I'm mentioning EXCEPT the front part of the off beach parking area ****** 1st is MY reason: I go here because it has 2 fenced in HUGH dog play areas. My girls go into the small dog play area while yes, big dogs go in the other one. Each play area has benches, water and poop bags in different areas of the park. (Some people leave balls there also otherwise, you bring your own) I walk the perimeter while the girls run after me and the other dogs. My 2 rescues "mother/daughter" duo are still puppies, full of muscle and need to run for their exercise. (for me to rest because they are a handful) 2nd: There is A children's play area. I know they have swings slides picnic benches but I'm not sure what else because I don't have a child to go there. I hear all of the children laughing, having fun so I'm sure it's pretty nice. 3rd: They also have back to back courts for... I know one is basketball, the other one may be pickleball? Not quite sure but again I see lots of people playing on the courts even if I'm not paying attention to them 4th: Which is most likely you wanted 1st is the large parking area across from the beach As you first drive into the park, there is a huge off beach parking area where You can (of course) park and walk right across to the beach. * BE AWARE, It is no longer "free" parking (just like ALL the parking areas in Volusia county) **The parking areas are free for local residents as long as you register with your car license plate and proof that you are indeed a resident here. ***I don't know what the policy is, you will have to look it up in The Volusia County rules I do know it's $20 a day parking (and all the parking areas now) BUT, I do know it is a great park with something to do for all AS for pictures, I will put them up when I go again BUT, here is a shot of my cute ladies and something strange that someone put up. Basketball tennis and…read moredead people Detwiler is little park not far from the New Smyrna beaches. Certainly not a big park but a very cool one if you happen to like tennis or hoops. The little park boasts five lighted tennis courts, all in great condition. You don't need a reservation except for tournament play and can just grab a court and start whacking around some tennis balls. The park also has a very nice basketball court, a playground and some bathrooms. Not a lot of room for a walk, this park is centered around the fantastic tennis courts. If you happen to stroll over on the far end of the park you will notice that it has a small and old cemetery. Definitely an odd combination. Detwiler is a small park that is well known to tennis players in the area. A cool place to play as long as you don't mind a very still and old audience quietly watching.

Recently visited Ormond beach after a long time away. My…read morelast complaint was about the park, but they luckily have taken it out and put a splash pad there for kids to enjoy, which is so wonderful. I feel like more and more people are starting to realize Ormond Beach is better than Daytona so the parking lot is more packed. Overall, we still had a great trip. I love the sand on this coast. It's coarse and darker in color. And for being so close to New Smyrna I can never find shark teeth.

There is decent parking for this park and, as I said, for kids, this is a good place to take them to play. There are also a few pavilions with benches underneath them for the parents to chill and watch their children enjoy the playground. All in all, this is a good park to head towards if you have children. Since we had a four-year-old with us, the kid really loved this park. Afterwards, it was nice to walk around the lake at the park across the street, which is called Mill Lake Park. Both of these parts sit on the corner of East Blue Spring Avenue and South Holly Avenue.

There's a small track traversing the edge of the park for parents and others to walk/jog. A little playground good for anyone 2-12. Splash park open until 6 pm and an even larger one in Mill Park that is just next door. Waterfountains, benches, a few tables. Perfect little place to get the kids a day outside without being to overcrowded. Bathrooms are a little below par but good enough to relieve a little.
