The selection was ok considering our vacation home is on a remote island, but the project went way over the guaranteed price and the quality of the materials were not as good as promised. Installation was not good at all. I gave a big deposit but he kept asking for more money before finishing the job. Update: Our cabinet doors and drawer fronts are all warped. read more

I 1st hired David in February when I added a wall oven. He tied it in to frig w/extra stack of drawers & a modern "garage" above my oven. Because he's custom there are no problems with chosen size vs fixed sizes. My wall cabinet came out gorgeous. We hired him again to do the rest. This is my LAST kitchen Reno. So my standards are higher then before. It came out perfect. David & Ned are kind guys. They were a pleasure to work with. He exceeded my expectations. read more

Should have just gone to Home Depot, but I thought I would get better "Customer Service" with Dave. Huge mistake. Just wanted cabinets for one wall (10 feet) in 2017. Issues began with "crisis management" after 6 weeks of order. The cuts had to be made on random, one, specific day and was hounded at work on the phone and via email, to get all final details done immediately. Ordered "beaded flat panel". Arrived "plain shaker". Dave tells my wife "I didn't think your husband would notice". Took all doors back to shop for corrections. Now 3 years later, the "white" paint has turned yellow (Reference pics). Contacted him twice via email. I'm done. I'll do it myself and make it right. Royal waste of time and money. read more

We hired Dave to work on our family vacation home. Working with him was an incredibly frustrating experience. We waited months for him to finish projects that he said would only take a few weeks. He kept demanding more and more money along the way and we weren't even happy with the end result. We eventually had to fire him and get someone else to finish the job. read more

If I could give a minus star, I would. We hired David in February 2021 to make custom cabinets for our kitchen. He wanted 60% up front and promised extreme quality cabinets. Installation was to take place the first week of July 2021. Never happened!! He kept putting it off and putting it off because he apparently used the 60% down payment for "other things". He then called and asked that we pay the balance of the bill before we ever saw any of the cabinets and before installation. I refused. He finally "finished" the kitchen in March 2022. We arrived back on island to see a kitchen that was extremely poor quality, poor workmanship, doors and drawers that didn't properly close, double cabinet doors with 3/4" gaps between doors, cabinet doors with rough finish because they were not sanded properly, raised panels that are uneven, cabinets just not completely finished!! The cabinets were not measured properly. The wall cabinets are 4-6 inches above the top of the wall (we have cathedral ceilings and the cabinets butt up against the beams...it looks terrible). Our contractor had to build an extension at one end of the kitchen so it doesn't look completely off balance. It's just awful!!! read more

I am so happy that my friend referred me to NSD Mill. I was looking to update my kitchen cabinets and after hours of waiting in Home Depot to speak with a specialist I was told they do not replace doors and drawers. My Cabinet bases were strong so I did not want the expense or labor involved with all new kitchen cabinets. My doors were the original particle board with white sheet vinyl. They had survived 28 years and had extensive water damage along the edges and would shed wood particle every time I opened a door. I followed the signs by Kauai nursery to stop in and inquire about replacing my doors and drawers. I walked ito the warehouse and was immediately greeted by David. He was happy to explain the process and made an appointment to meet me at my condo later that afternoon. He came and took measurements and showed me samples. I decided on the White solid shaker and excitedly placed my 50% deposit. He explained that these are all custom-made and it could take 4 to 6 weeks for the final product. He kept me informed each step of the way and completed the job in less than 4 weeks time! I feel like I have a brand new kitchen!!! The cabinets are beautiful and David and Ned were wonderful from the beginning to the end! They both take such pride in there craftsmanship and were friendly and professional. I highly recommend NSD Mills and will definitely use them again!!! read more

I am so happy I decided to go with Dave at NSD Mill! The quality of his work is far superior than others I've researched on Kauai, and not terribly more expensive either. He is worth every penny as his work is amazing. I really felt I was in good hands with Dave. I absolutely LOVE my kitchen cabinets!!! Exactly what I wanted! A dream come true! :) I saw some of the bad reviews that others have left here for Dave and I was totally surprised and confused. I wondered if perhaps they were fake reviews? Maybe from a jealous ex girlfriend or something? I don't know, it makes no sense to me as my experience on my kitchen cabinet journey with Dave was great from start to finish! He is a sweet guy, good natured, very forthright, professional and obviously skilled at his trade. I would definitely recommend him to others. read more

I wish i would have read the bad reviews on here before hiring Dave Luders at NSD Mill. It turned out to be probably the worst decision we made on the building of our house. I would not recommend NSD Mill to anyone. If you want to wait for ever, be lied to continuously, be hounded for more money after every step and then receive a poorly crafted product in the end then this is the shop for you. read more

I am writing this review because I continue to be haunted by the thought that someone might go through the same experience we did. I joined Yelp for this to at least offer a warning. David Luders was recommended by a friend who had a fine experience with him so, just as the reviews here show, some people have a positive experience with him and others do not. Our experience was awful. There were a lot of promises to show up and even more promises of perfection, but the reality was that we spent a lot of time being disappointed or stood up after an entire day of waiting for him with no courtesy calls or updates to know he wasn't coming to install. Ultimately, our cabinets had relentless problems with the finish and ended up being installed with inconsistent color. The white color varied from cabinet to cabinet, some being more yellow than others. We hired a painter to repaint them in place. I had to sand down and manipulate the cabinets to fit in our space, they came with numerous flaws, mistakes, pieces that didn't fit, ill fitting doors, or missing pieces (drawers/shelves). We still don't have the final drawer because the last time he sent his guy to install it, it didn't fit and the workmanship was embarrassing. After months of excuse after excuse from David Luders, I got so worn down by him that I needed to stop dealing with him entirely. We don't have the final drawer, or any of the money he offered to give to help with the repainting, but I'm incredibly relieved to not be interacting with him any longer. read more
