I've been coming here for 8 months and really enjoyed it, thinking I had found my new permanent barber after my long-term barber left the city. Jaelen did a great job fixing my first replacement barber's mistakes and always had a good personality, so I was happy coming in. Each time, he'd do a solid job but would make small changes like fading a little differently or cutting the top or my part in slightly different places but it was small things. I thought if I was specific, I'd get a consistent haircut and get to what I had with my old barber where I just sat down and he knew what my normal was. Tonight, when he asked, "What are we doing today?" (Normal question) and I said, "Same thing, just clean it up, little off the top, and blend the fade higher and shorter this time." (Normal answer) He spun me around in the chair and said, "Bro, it's always something with you, you a headache." At first, I thought he was joking, but then he kept going, and I realized he was serious. I felt uncomfortable but stuck it out since he had already started aggressively fading half my head. After some time, I broke the ice and asked, "So I can understand you, if I like my previous haircut but want to make a small change, how do I ask you to adjust or tell you what I want?" He replied, "You just a headache, and it's always something with you." I apologized, said I didn't want him to think he did a bad job, and just wanted to tell him what I wanted this haircut. He responded, "Out of all my customers, you a headache you the only one. Somebody should tell you that." I sat there feeling more and more awkward and uncomfortable and we got to the part in my hair, and he asked, "Where do you want the line?" I said "same spot please" and he said he couldn't see it anymore. I was confused because I clearly saw it in the mirror (see photo where you can see old part is clearly visible). I should've left at that point but said right here and showed him where I wanted it to start and end and traced the clearly visible line. He then told me to stop being sarcastic, which confused me further because I was serious and sincere with my answer and wasn't sure how to answer him without tracing the line that was so obviously there. I paused to try to think how I could tell him what to cut without tracing the same line again and risk agitating him more and he told me to "stop being soft," and to answer so I showed him again where I wanted it. He cut it higher anyway. The cut was "done" and he showed me the result in the mirror. The fade was clearly uneven and not blended at all (see photo) but I just wanted to get out of there at this point and not give him the chance to keep making it worse while he was clearly upset. It was a very unprofessional experience to a loyal biweekly customer and based on his Booksy it's not like he is booked all day to just be rejecting consistent business. Even if I just wasn't a fit for him there were much more mature ways he could have communicated he did not want to work with me anymore and tonight felt like it came out of no where. This sadly will be my last haircut there which is disappointing because I planned to continue brining my business there for a long time had all of this not happened. read more

Extremely unprofessional on multiple occasions. Cut off far more than I asked for and continued even after I very quickly suggested it was too much, while also making fun of me for how I asked for my haircut. Additionally, previously raised the price on me during the middle of my haircut due to how long it was, when it was considerably shorter than the length required to qualify as a long length cut. I have had many questionable haircuts in my life but this one was by far the worst. The man lied about his name when I had an appointment with another barber and proceeded to make the cut in 13 minutes. I showed him 5 photos and he did not give me anything even close to what I asked for even after showing him a second time. I came home to realize that not only did I have a haircut I didn't want but also the sides were unevenly cut and there was a tuft of hair just sticking out at the front that he didn't clean up. I do not know the name of the barber but he was Dominican if that helps. They were very nice people but he was an awful hairdresser. I only needed a cut to clean me up for an interview that day and last me a month and now I will have to walk around in shame for a month. Nope. Never again. Very unprofessional service and just a bad haircut. I walked in on a weekday afternoon and was matched up with a barber who had just returned from a break. He carried his lunch to the chair and ate it slowly while beginning to cut my hair ... A friend of his walked in soon after we began and they started a conversation, shouting across the shop. I stayed out of their conversation until the barber pulled me in, asking me what I thought about Trump. (Since when is politics a good ice-breaker?) Some time into the cut, the barber stepped back, gazed at my head, and said, "You know what? I don't really know how to style this." If it's relevant, I'm a white male and have a side part. Not the most complicated haircut. I told him at the beginning I just wanted to trim and keep the style, but he apparently got lost somewhere in between. He finishes the cut and the top and sides are way off-proportion. I ask him to thin out the top and he complies. When I get home, I see that my bangs are at a tilt (it's a weird, lopsided sort of part) and that my sideburns are uneven. Nope, nope, nope. Not supporting this place again. read more

Both my nephew and son regularly get their hair cut by Rioz, who is really great with kids. My son has been going here about every two months since he was 2 years old. His hair is bone straight and he went from having a bowl-cut (I just couldn't let go!) to a big-boy close shave. My nephew, who has afro-like curly hair, recently got a Mohawk and looks really cool. Rioz is especially patient with screaming children who are afraid of barber tools (my nephew used to panic so much that he inadvertently kicked other barbers). Rioz seems to work well with a variety of hair types and most importantly is able to build a good relationship with kids so that they feel comfortable when they come back. He takes his time for each cut and is super nice. I trust him with my precious child and adorable nephew, so I think that speaks volumes... read more

Had an hour in Cambridge and wanted to get a haircut. I found this place on Yelp and walked in. I was a little skeptical at first watching most of the guys getting buzz cuts, I wondered if I picked the wrong place for my white-boy, wavy hair. But I had one of the most attentive and detailed haircuts ever from Tim (tall skinny guy in the right corner). He made sure everything was blended well and just gave me a really great cut that has grown out well too. Had a lot of fun just talking too--Tim is a great guy. Basically, it's great service and company for a low price. The place looks pretty simple and slightly rundown, far from a fancy salon, but they just take care of you if you sit down in the chair. Love this place. It's been my go to barber shop for the last two years. Good barber shop environment with professional guys. Flat screen tv usually turned to ESPN. They accept appointments online and by phone (even on Mondays!!!). Try to avoid Friday afternoons if you don't want to wait for awhile. However, they usually have 3 to 4 barbers so the line moves fast. I like the tall skinny guy on right side of the shop. He gives a clean cut and remembers what I need. My first experience at Nu Image was great. Had Marlon as my barber, and he was very thorough and patient. I came in with a general sense of how I wanted my hair to look (help give the illusion of my face looking longer, to offset my wide head), and he worked with me to achieve a fresh and clean cut. Had the worst experience in years. My regular barber closed early so I tried to find something else in the area. I gave the typical description of what I wanted but in the end it was so bad that I buzzed it off when I got home. The barber didn't seem comfortable with what he was doing and didn't make me confident at all but once things got started the damage was already done. Was looking for an inexpensive place to get a cut on my way home from work - found this place online and decided to take a chance. I made an appointment online, which was an easy and pleasant experience. When I walked in, it took a while before anyone acknowledged me or asked if I had an appointment. I got my cut from Tim, in the corner. He was pretty distracted by the game on TV, and I sat in the chair for 5 minutes before he started cutting. I showed him several pictures/angles of what I wanted, and he said he got it. He would pause periodically to text or watch the game, and didn't really talk much during the cut. When he finished and went for the mirror, I wasn't happy with the cut - he hadn't matched the style I asked for. I showed him the picture again and he worked to fix the cut, but he still didn't really do what I asked for. I'm not sure if he just wasn't used to cutting white hair, was distracted, or didn't care, but this was a bad cut and I would not recommend this place for someone who is particular about their hair. TLDR: Not a great cut. You get what you pay for. read more

I've been getting my haircut from Marlon for 9 years now, one of the best in Boston! Not only does he give the cleanest cuts around, but he's a great listener, and I've learned a lot of about life from this guy! (Note: Marlon also takes credit/debit card using the Square device/app, a nice convenience instead of cash!) The other barbers, while I've never gotten a cut from them, always turn out great cuts, and always polite and professional, greeting me when I swing in. Best Barber I've been to in Cambridge ask for Rios. I've tried a number of barbers in the Davis and Central square areas and have gotten great cuts at a number of them.
