The food at NU Kitchen is great but I have to knock off two stars because their customer service is absolutely HORRENDOUS. It seems like the staff are so focused on fulfilling online orders that they just ignore everyone in front of them. Every time I have walked in and ordered at the counter, I have had to wait 10+ minutes for an iced coffee or an iced tea. NU Kitchen needs a designated person making drinks so customers don't have to wait a ridiculous amount of time for a drink that should take 2 minutes max. Today I had to wait 10 minutes for my iced tea. I accidentally spilled it and when I asked staff for a towel they handed me two dish towels and I had to clean it up myself. I get that it was busy, but someone should have come out with a caution sign and a mop so that I, the paying customer, didn't have to clean the dirty floor on my hands and knees. Also, the staff wouldn't make eye contact with me and were too busy making food that I never got another drink and just left because it would have taken way too long. If you go here I would highly recommend ordering ahead. read more

Today they were extra wonderful when my clumsy self tripped and dropped both the açaí bowls we had just gotten they were so quick to help out and get us new ones. After eating a bunch of really good, but rather unhealthy food for the last week, this place was a healthy reduce that was much needed. We saw the good reviews online and we figured parking would be better here than in downtown Boston area so we gave it a try! Parking, as imagined, was pretty easy. The restaurant was absolutely beautiful and had nice decor all over. The restaurant used lots of woods and plants for the decorations which combined well together. The menu was overwhelming with the many good options, but that's not too much a bad thing. Overall, I decided on the Honey Goat Avocado sandwich and an Oahu Açaí Bowl. Both options were exception and I was very delighted with the presentation and the quality of the food. I recommend switching out the bread for a bagel on the sandwich as recommended by the staff. The food was delicious, but the staff seemed quite stressed out and rude. Once I paid (and left a nice tip) the person who took the order didn't say "thank you". I stepped aside to wait for our food and noticed the next person ordered, payed with cash, and when they received their change and said thank you, the person who served them replied "yup". The food here is all around healthy, fresh and delicious! I've tried many things from smoothies and juices to grain/acai bowls and sandwiches and I don't think you can go wrong with any choice. The prices are a bit pricey but the ingredients are fresh and they make them to order and make them into a very visually and tastefully appetizing dish for you, so I think they are still worth the prices. The only minus in the star is for service. It's a bit confusing where to expect your dishes to show up (whether at the counter or at your seats). There are 2 separate counters (one for the drink and another for the sandwich), so if they are done with your order and plop your items there, I don't know how you can be sure or identify that that's your order. The reference they call out your order us confusing. Sometimes they call out the order's name, sometimes th e customer's name or sometimes the table number's name). I'm not even sure if you grab a table number whether you are supposed to sit at your table and wait for someone to bring it to you it whether to wait at one of the two counters. I've had inconsistent practices of how I get my orders at this restaurant...so make sure you are on the look out for your orders or go check up at the counter if you've been waiting at your table with your number for too long. read more

I would probably give this place 3.5/5 stars if I could give half stars. I came here twice this weekend because it's super close to where I live. My work gets Nu kitchen catered for lunch sometimes and I don't find it tasty when I have it at work so I was hesitant about going to the restaurant itself. Great atmosphere in here! One day I got the Banh Mi and I would give it 3/5. It didn't have much flavour and was dry. The kettle chips as a side were also average. Wouldn't order this again. The next day I got the Oahu açai bowl and I would give this 4/5. The smoothie part of the bowl was delicious. The strawberries could have been a little fresher but it was still ok. The other toppings were tasty except there was too much honey in my opinion. read more

This place is an absolute gem. With beautiful wooden tables, green pots of plants all over, and lovely ambient lights stringing from the ceiling, - you cannot go wrong with coming here. Instead of plastic coffee stirrers, they had pasta sticks! They also had pasta straws in addition to regular straws for you to choose from. I ordered the chorizo and Brussels sprouts hash. I came here on a whim when I was visiting my brother with him and a few of his friends. It looked pretty healthy so they were a bit skeptical but we popped in because it was close! Great decision!! I got a Belly Bliss and a Turkey Avocado Panini. Juice was fresh and the sandwich really hit the spot. The food here is great. I'm appreciative of the vegan options. However, I would stay completely away from the drink menu (with the exception of the smoothies which are fine). I've had the coffee, matcha, tea, and now lemonade and all of them have been exceptionally terrible, which is surprising because the food here is really good. The pictures attached are supposedly lemonade. In addition to the alarmingly orange and opaque appearance, it truly tasted like cup of lemon juice concentrate, absolutely undrinkable. And unfortunately I know this is not just a one-time mistake - the drinks have been consistently bad. As a long-time loyal customer of the NU Cafe in Worcester, I knew that I was already a fan of this location in Somerville. The location in Worcester has a rustic, low-key kind of feel. This location kind of gives the same vibe, but with much more natural lighting, modern interior, and way more seating (the one in Worcester used to be an old bookstore and has only a few windows on one side). It's hard for me to admit since I'm so partial to the one in Worcester (lots of hangouts and study sessions from my middle school to college years), but I prefer this one in Somerville. Menu is more or less the same, though I think I saw more options in this location. The sides for paninis and sandwiches differ. Recommend: The sweet potato panini, and any smoothie bowl. Cold brew could be stronger. Also wish they had more baked goods! But they already have an extensive food menu, so oh well. Parking might also be a bit hard since it's street parking, and it's not near any of the T lines. read more

Went here on Memorial Day 2021 for a casual lunch with friends. I ordered the kale Caesar as a wrap and a ginger lime mule. On that day the restaurant was pretty smoky on the inside, and we walked away smelling like that unfortunately. I found the food to be average. Would not recommend the drink. I enjoyed my Kale Cesar. I came here today for a quick lunch with my friend after heaving positive reviews. However, I'm not that happy with this place. To start, I wanted to know if the Thai-Curry sauce in the Mayan bowl was spicy because curry often can be. I asked the woman at the register whether it was spicy and her response was "i don't know", without offering any other advice or comments. I had to ask her if she could find out if it was, and the woman asked me if she should go ask the kitchen with an attitude. Even though she came back with a sample of the sauce, i think that the employees of a cafe should at least know about the menu, especially if they are working the register where people order food. I added the honey goat cheese to my Mayan grain bowl and paid $2.50 extra for it. In my bowl, there were only 4 crumbles of the goat cheese for this price. What a rip off and a waste of money. The bowl tasted good and that's the only reason I'm giving this place 3 stars, but the service and the fact that i was slumped out on the goat cheese i paid extra for isn't worth it. Came here on a Tuesday night a little after 7PM for a Yelp event. Got to try a smoothie and a mixed berry cocktail along with an assortment of their food. I'm happy to say I really enjoyed everything I tried. The staff their were super friendly and the restaurant itself was clean and organized, I just wish it had more seating. NU Cafe was introduced to me by a friend who goes there for their non-dairy smoothies and vegan meals as she is Allergic to many foods. The atmosphere is very cute . I love indoor plants! And they have a plant wall along with a very fun sign that said food using a bicycle as the two Os. NU Cafe is very casual and chill. I was say there is an arty feel. There are pictures/ paintings that change with the Seasons adding a seasonal touch. I believe they also host paint nights as they were setting up easels and painting trays. This place is an eat and or takeaway. Both times I have come to NU Cafe I got the Molokai bowl. It's basically a smoothie bowl with toppings. It is a refreshing non dairy alternative to ice cream. They also have regular food as well such as lime rice bowls and Turkey wraps. I love the Molokai bowl! It is a great combination of sweet, salty, crunchy and smooth. I've driven by this place numerous times. Today I decided to try it out. It's very spacious and has a beautiful open kitchen. I was there a little after 9am for a few hours and the music was loud and bumping from the moment I walked in. I was there to get some work done and I'd suggest to play some mellow laid back music in the AM then get it pumping after lunch. Or slightly turn it down until lunch. This may be personal preference. I tried the ginger lemon tea with some honey, and I'm upset to say that I actually did not like the flavor. Just seemed very very overbearing. I realized after they put two tea bags in it so that's probably why. I ordered it in-house and they still gave it to me in a to go cup. I don't think that they have regular mugs and stuff which I was kind of bummed about because I hate wasting it if I don't need it to go because I usually always bring my own to go cup. They did have recycle bins so that's a plus! After I did some work I got up to also try one of their snacks to hold me over til I got home. I am on a budget, so I didn't want to spend too much. I tried the caprice salad that was $4.99. I only got 3 pieces of tomato and 2 of mozzarella. So I don't feel like I got my $ worth. It was absolutely scrumptious, but I wish I had a slightly larger portion because as a snack you just want it to hold you over and it didn't it left me just a little bit hungry. My faves from here are the Salmon BLT and Chipotle Lime bowl. So so delicious. Also give their Turkey Burger a try! Comes with a sunny side egg!! I'm obsessed. Parking might be a little hard to find.
