Firstly, they have gluten free burritos, as well as solid vegetarian and vegan protein options. Secondly, the extensive menu is very diverse and everything looks good. Thirdly, the staff are really nice folks who work quite hard in the kitchen. The food is flavorful and the portion sizes are generous. As much as it's more like California-mex, there are some really authentic things like the sliced mango that they offer, and my personal favorite, elote which is properly charred and coated with your choice of cotija or queso fresco (I chose cotija). The plantains are great and add a tropical vibe to the dish, and go great with the beans and guac, also inside the burrito. I'll be dreaming about this meal for a while. read more

We were walking around Harvard square, and my BF, a lover of Mexican food, saw this place so we went in for lunch. I'd describe it as Chipotle (fast-casual) spot with a twist - with unique additions such as plantains ( I love plantains!) and fries (make your Burrito Californian). BF got the California Chicken Bowl ($12 ish I think), which came heaping with guacamole, cheese, and a pile of crispy golden fries. I got the Baja Shrimp bowl ($14 ish, $3 extra for guacamole addition) and it was flavorful and delicious. The portions are humongous. Their spicy mayo sauce is to die for (especially combined with the fries). If you were a broke college student you could probably turn a bowl into two meals. Overall - yum! read more

I'm extremely disappointed with how the night ended at this place. The posted closing time was 4:00 AM. My friends and I arrived around 3:15 AM, were having a great time, and everything was fine until staff suddenly became rude and aggressive, loudly dragging chairs, making excessive noise, and essentially forcing us out well before closing. It felt disrespectful and completely unnecessary. The food was good, which makes this even more frustrating but the way guests were treated at the end of the night overshadowed everything else. As someone who works in hospitality, I believe management should want to know if their staff is treating guests this way. If you don't intend to serve guests until 4:00 AM, then simply close earlier. Don't take it out on people who are following your posted hours. Unfortunately, because of this experience, I won't be returning. read more

The bowl I got was pretty good- I got the carne asada bowl. Quite tasty! The drink was good too, I believe a passion fruit juice. The only downside was the menu on the wall is different than the menu on the kiosk you actually order from. You also can't order drinks on the kiosk. A little odd. I wanted the carne asada two taco plate that was on the wall menu but when I tried to find it on the kiosk it only had fish taco plates or the bowls. I was on a walk around Harvard Square and decided to go to Achilitios for lunch. I had a spicy chicken bowl. It really was not that spicy. I had to add hot sauce to it to give it some bite even though the were jalapeño peppers already added. I had them add pinapples to the chicken bowl no realizing that it would cost extra. This review is based on an Uber Eats order. I was in the mood for Mexican food and Achilito's was the quickest delivery to me, plus they had 2-for-1 deals available, so I decided to try it. They had a $20 steak quesadilla, 2-for-1. I also ordered the chips and queso for $4.70. The steak quesadilla had a very small portion (3 pieces with the one in the middle being larger and the two corner pieces being small), especially for $20. Like two of them together was a normal quesadilla portion from most places. I feel bad for people who order just one when the 2-for-1 deal isn't available and walk away hungry after spending $20. Beyond that, the steak tasted overcooked and dry. Thankfully the tortilla, cheese and condiments like salsa, guacamole and sour cream helped cover up the dryness of the steak, but it still wasn't all that good overall. The salsa (tomatillo) and guacamole were fine, but the sour cream was strangely salty so it tasted almost like cream cheese. On to the chips and queso. The chips were fine. Seemed like they cut and fried them in house and there were no issues with the fryer or anything, so the chips tasted good on their own. Unfortunately, the queso was pretty bad. Overly salty, tasted like cheap, maybe not even real cheese. Both bland and also spicy, not a good balance of flavors at all. Their guacamole is decent, so it would've been nice if it had been available to order with chips, but for some strange reason, that wasn't an option despite the fact that they had a ton of options to order. Even by Boston standards, this Mexican place is bad. They really need to figure out their pricing, their ordering options and quality overall. Felipe's and El Jefe's are other fast casual Mexican joints in Harvard Square, and despite their own flaws, are both better options than Achilito's by a long shot. read more

This place is SO good. I haven't found a decent, not sit down Mexican place near Harvard for the last 3 years. Everything else has been very oriented to the east coast crowd, which (to be frank) isn't a crowd that knows good Mexican food. As such, I'm so excited this place opened up. The audacity of this place to charge $21.70 for THIS Steak California Bowl. I had to pay for additional "premium" ingredients -- I didn't know lettuce, tomato and onion were premium and suddenly not standard. I also paid $4 extra to have extra fries in both bowls. They barely gave me the fries that were suppose to come in the bowl in the first place. They basically placed 6-8 fries on top of the bowl as garnish. What a joke and a ripoff! I ordered Jarrito Watermelon these guys gave me Fruit Punch!! Total rinky-dink operation they're running! Plus I contacted Door Dash about this and they refuse to fully refund me EVEN THOUGH MY WHOLE ORDER WAS WRONG!! The service was awful. The employee responsible for my food was careless when it comes to gluten present in my food. He seemed not to clearly answer my question "does this contain gluten?" He seemed not to understand the question at all, he treated me as if I was a nuisance for making sure as he seemed entirely unsure. I understand there is a language barrier but the desire to just wrap the burrito and get your day over with while I'm trying to make sure I'm not going to get sick is wild. I also am very certain being queer led to their careless attitudes this was 9pm December 10th the staff completely dismissed my concerns 3 men working the kitchen at night acted as If I was being unreasonable for trying to verify if I would get sick or not. Wild careless unprofessional attitude. I'm going to contact the department of health. I got sick eating there. This restaurant needs to be shut down. People are going to get hurt. They should not be allowed to advertise any options as gluten free IF the department of public health allows them to open again. Their staff have 0 training to respond appropriately to allergen concerns. I have celiacs disease, this is not about a simple choice. I will suffer for days after this. And the staff are anti-queer bigots for sure. I tried repeatedly to address the issue. My husband and I are visiting town and had burritos and street corn from achilito's yesterday - seriously top notch burritos! No spillage / mess, expertly put together, and no mistakes were made regarding what we wanted for fillings. Everything tasted incredibly fresh and authentic. I love burritos and am always on the quest to find a new top contender. Achilito's is now in my top 3 burritos that I have had anywhere!
