First off, let me state that I've been to several beauty academies. I know students need the…read morepractice and it's in my price range. By stating that: this review was justly deserved. My appointment was for 10am. I get a call at 9:30 ( I was enroute to the "school) informing me that I had to come at 12:30 because the school had an impromptu field trip. REALLY???!!! You didn't know this on the Friday before my appointment? Ok. Things happen. My daughter and I show up at 12:30. You guessed it. They were not there. There was a sign on the door that said closed until 1pm. The "teachers and administration staff" show up at 12:45 with bags of food. They said come on in, the students won't be here until 1pm anyway". Again, REALLY???!!! I ask for a discount because of our inconvenience. You guessed it, they said no. REALLY???!!! So, a student does my daughter quick weave(she braided her hair and not wrapped it and set her under the dryer. When I questioned the stylist about her technique, the "receptionist" stated "oh, you can cornrow her hair. It's more than one way to skin a cat". They didn't eve put her under the hair dryer to "seal the glue" after her hair done. I'm not a stylist but even I know you are supposed to do that. Once again, REALLY???!!! I know most would have left by now, but we were in a bind and my daughter really needed her hair done. The staff, to me, was so unprofessional. Are you teaching your students that the customer's time is unimportant? And the conversations in the shop... my daughter is 15. Come on now... Keep the atmosphere appropriate. This is not the place to discuss religion or your religious beliefs. You don't know who you are offending. Oh yeah, there was a teacher or "receptionist" who did not correct the student. In fact, she joined in the conversation with the individual. I had to go over and ask them to change the topic. I understand your views are just that, your views. There is a time and place for everything. A working environment where customers is not it. This shop also nickel and dimes you. If I wanted my daughter to get her hair washed, that was a fee. At least when we went to Jacksonville Beauty Institute, everyone got a shampoo wash no matter the hair service you received. It was included in the service. I can understand bringing my own hair and wig cap. But I got to supply the glue also? Did you want me to style it also? Say it with me, REALLY???!!! I wish there was a lower score than 1 Star. I do try to give black businesses a chance with my business but this place is not worth it. Why do I have to demand better from this establishment? Leave hood in the hood. Respect your clients and their time. An appointment time is just that, an appointed time to be at a designated place at a designated time. Maybe someone had a better experience than I did. I'm going back to Jacksonville Beauty Institute or find a stylist at the flea market across the street. At least I know what I'm getting into. The good part was they were open on a Monday and my daughter said she liked her hair. I can honestly say, no tracks were showing, the front could have done better hey.....$35 not well spent.

After meeting with Ms .Williams and Ms. Nealy I am certain that Shear Finesse Hairstyling Academy…read moreis my school of choice. I admire their professionalism and their willingness to help those in need. I was impressed to learn that their main goal is to make certain that their students are well trained and prepared to enter into the salon. I can't wait to start! Kathy Douglas-Hobbs

It's so worth it. So worth it. Aubrey is about to graduate but all the students there well trained, in my opinion. Especially for skincare things. Massage has been hit or miss and same with nails. Overall, nice place for an inexpensive self-care routine(s).

‼This was honestly the worst school I've ever attended.‼…read more I'm saying this to bring awareness because I've noticed a lot of reviews don't even talk about the actual massage program, and that's what matters. We were being tested on things we were never properly taught, with no clear rubric or guidance. In clinic, students were expected to perform services like sports massage and prenatal massage without being trained for it, which is a serious safety issue. The environment was unprofessional. I saw teachers disrespect students, have emotional breakdowns, and the program went through multiple instructors. At one point, a student was basically put in a teaching position on Saturdays. That alone shows how unorganized things were. For months, I wasn't properly taught. Most of what I learned came toward the very end, and even then there were still issues with boundaries and professionalism from staff. Paperwork would go missing, students were left confused and stressed, and there was no accountability. On top of that, I personally experienced sexual harassment, which made the environment feel unsafe. I reported this school to the state massage board because of everything that went on. If you're serious about becoming a massage therapist, I strongly suggest looking into other programs.

I go in to each haircut knowing that it is a student and that sometimes things can happen, also, it's just hair so if something does happen I'm not upset. I have had many great experiences here with multiple different students. The one thing I will say is that the education is not what it used to be. And I've learned this through chatting with students and being a guest of PM for many years. I really wish they would take the time to go back to teaching how to massage and wash hair. That is really the best part of any service.

I heard about Paul Mitchell's services and found out Wednesdays is $5 for men's haircut so I took advantage. I knew it was a school and I knew it would be a student doing it. What's the worst that could happen? It's only $5 and my hair will grow back in a couple of weeks. Both student and instructor did great. It was the first time the student did a "skin fade," but the instructor was right there every step of the way making sure everything looked uniform. Was it the best haircut I've ever received? No, but everyone has to learn, plus it's only $5! Literally cheaper than a dozen eggs at the moment. If you're looking to cut your household budget, and you can show a bit of grace, then definitely check out The Paul Mitchell school
