I've been to Maxine twice so far, and compared to three other electrologists I've been to, she has been the best. I had already started treatments in another city several months prior, and had visited Maxine when I was visiting Houston for a short time. She used blend method, which is the method I prefer since it is the most effective. However, she does offer other methods if you prefer other types. Immediately upon meeting her, I felt comfortable. She has a very relaxed demeanor and is very sweet. She asks a lot of questions about your concerns and has you fill out a whole questionnaire regarding your skin/hair problems. She also uses topical anesthetic if you like, and properly cleanses your skin before starting. In addition, afterwards she gives you an icepack to keep on your skin for 15-20 mins, which she lets you take home with you. She also does catapharesing (I'm probably spelling it wrong), which I beleive helps reduce the redness. I know this sounds so simple, but none of the electrologists I've been to before have ever done the ice or topical anesthetic steps! The topical makes the treatment so much more tolerable, and the ice really helps remove the heat from the skin making your healing faster. Anyways, I really didn't want to write a review for Maxine, because I come to Houston quite often and didn't want her to be no longer accessible to me as she has been so far. Every time I've been able to make an appointment with her same day or next day. Also, I shopped around in the Clear Lake area before coming to her, and she and only one other electrologist had the lowest prices. I can't rmbr off the top of my head what the prices are, but I'm actually going to her again tomorrow so I'll find out prices so I can post them. She is honest with you about how electrolysis can be a long process, but with consistency, you can have permanent hair removal results.

My mother had received a $200 gift certificate from here that my dad had given her for Christmas 2008 (13YRS AGO) and my mom happens to find it while cleaning a filing cabinet so she figured she would call and ask. After speaking to an employee who looked in their computer and determined that that particular cert. had NOT been USED and said to come on down and they would honor the FULL AMOUNT!! So I just wanted to say how absolutely AMAZING this company is, to honor their own GIFT CERTIFICATE after 13 YEARS and make my mom's day that much better is TRULY SPECTACULAR BUSINESS PRACTICES!! BUYERS BEWARE....POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, NON EXISTENT COMMUNICATION, NO TRANSPARENCY ON COST…read more Okay. I contacted them as a serious buyer. Not only is it almost impossible to contact the person to purchase from, but you MUST buy over the (bloody phone?) in this era? Do they not know how to purchase or put up a buy link? in this decade? the website reminds me of the early 2000s. So I imagine no one has taken the time to update them by 25 years. As to the customer service? What customer service? A woman- sounds like mid 40s - 60s in age. Short tempered for someone who is supposed to be selling things... and tells me the model I want might not be available.... what do you mean MIGHT NOT BE AVAILABLE? Do you not update your inventory? Do you not have a method to check? Woman gives me an email for a DR? Our schedules do not match at all. i am on the pacific coast and when I am free you are closed. (lol) I am very interested in this machine and would like to know the price and if that is within my budget I am interested in buying it. Please help me to know more. An experienced electrologist suggested this shop to us when buying a machine and supplies. Despite…read moregreat experiences by others, we received not one, but two duds. We paid $2000 for an electrolysis machine that we believed to be less than two decades old. The machine is well-known for its reliability, so we felt comfortable buying a used one. The first machine we received had a malfunctioning display. Talked to the owner within the same week we received it and he was able to send us a replacement. I'm guessing the replacement was much older than the initial one we were sent, but it seemed to be functioning well. Less than 2 years later, the machine stops working entirely. Sent back to the company that produces the machine. We were told the machine was at least three decades old and "well worn." This was a surprise to us. Why would anyone pay $2000 for a worn-down machine? I wouldn't--but I didn't know. Being disappointed, I talked to the owner of Texas Electrolysis Supply, who denied that these machines could ever stop working. He insisted this is the first time he has heard of a machine sustaining major damage from age, it must've been caused by the user (such as an electrical surge). I confirmed with the owner of the company who produces these machines that it was indeed not an electrical surge and simply well-worn (see image below). The owner of Texas Electrolysis Supply also compared buying a used machine to buying a classic car. Sometimes they work perfectly fine, sometimes they have major issues. These machines are people's livelihoods, not an investment in a hobby. I'm unsure whether or not the owner was aware that this machine was used thoroughly and nearing the end of its life, but I definitely don't recall being told it was three decades old. Moral of the story: we would've been better off buying new or spending significantly less money buying a newer unit secondhand off of eBay/OfferUp/Craigslist. We believed because this shop specializes in electrolysis and sells refurbished machines, they'd be well-inspected and last us at least a couple of years. $2000, 2 duds, and not even 2 full years of having the machine--lesson learned.
