Gym-goers are spaced out as to stay safely away from others and the trainers wear masks at all times. Super thankful for 9Round. Original :: I must RAVE about this company and specifically, the Charlottesville 9Round locations. I won a free month from entering at a local race last June. I was instantly became addicted. I walk in there sluggish and even in pain from many auto immune and health issues, then walk out feeling awesome and drenched in sweat. I have never kick boxed before and the trainers assisted me from beginning to end with every detail at every "round" along with wrapping my hands properly. Now I am able to wrap my hands at red lights on the way in. There are 9 rounds and each round is 3 minutes and a different work out. It is a full-body workout every time. In just a half hour, you get destroyed (in a good way). The trainers hop in with you and not only help with your posture, but pick up pads and have you punch/kick with them. I have learned so much and have experienced my body doing things this week that I couldn't even do last week. The trainers modify any exercise if needed for every person. There are weekly competitions. This week it was competing (against yourself and others ) to see how many jumps on a jump rope you can get in a three minute time. I have been going before work or after work almost everyday. I feel stronger. I feel healthier, I sleep better and yet have more energy throughout the day. My husband and I are also trying the 9Round protein shake in the Vanilla Ice Cream flavor. On their website under nutrition, I found a Shamrock Shake recipe and honestly, it tastes EXACTLY like the McDonalds Shamrock Shake without the guilt. I literally love this company and specifically the Pantops location. Kellie and Rachel are FANTASTIC. The one complaint I have is the hours. Working full-time and trying to get a workout in is difficult, so I rush there after work or wake up real early to go, then wash off with baby wipes and dry shampoo since there is no shower. I was going to be traveling a lot over the summer and so a monthly membership didn't feel like the right fit, but the cost per class for the punch pass didn't feel worth it to me. So I decided against joining even though it was a good workout. Fast forward to January 2023, I received an email inviting me back to try the workout out again. I signed up for another class and had a phone conversation with one of the employees (Kelly?) discussing the various options. During this call, prices were not discussed. I came into the class and the prices were shown and explained, along with the packages. They require you to buy their HR monitor and gloves, which I wasn't super interested in because I already own three HR monitors and can see my HR in real time on my Apple Watch. The pricing did not feel competitive to me - I believe the package I had been planning on was now $19/class for ~30 minute classes. I believe I can get a much better value for my money elsewhere. Kelly was very pushy that I select the package I wanted before the workout and when I told her I had to think about whether it would fit into my budget she seemed very unhappy and guilted me about this being my second free workout. I probably should have just walked out then but I had already given up half my lunch break driving there and having the conversation so I did the workout and left with no plans to return. Again, I like the workout (it's a great amount of cardio packed into 30 minutes and I'm definitely sore after) but I do not like the sales tactics and the guise of being invited back to try the workout again only to be bombarded and guilted upon not being ready to sign a contract that day. I just wouldn't expect that sort of treatment from a locally owned business.

Machines and free-weights are clean and in good repair and I haven't seen them super crowded. The locker rooms are large and well-kept. Every staff member we've interacted with has been friendly, up-beat, and helpful. The Downtown location advertises a rooftop pool. While it does exist (and is nice), it's very small - basically the width of one lap-lane. Almost like a large plunge pool. Downtown also has a parking garage with free access for members which is excellent. Some other reviewers have accused acac of being too expensive, but we were actually pretty satisfied with the price. Given the amenities and multiple locations, we feel that the membership fee is plenty reasonable. If I had to call something out for being a bit overpriced, it'd be the smoothies at the gym cafes - they're good, but after Virginia sales tax and C-ville meal tax, you're looking at 10-11 bucks a pop. At that price point, I'll be bringing my own shakes for post-workout!

The women's locker room is disgusting, it smells and there is hair all over the floor and on the shower walls and floor. The hot tub is dirty too. The locker room is way over due for an overhaul. The lockers are dirty and don't get cleaned out ever. It doesn't make sense to have kids in the women's locker room either. Have a family area for changing clothes. Also, the pool is always overrun by kids and it's loud. Terrible gym don't waste your time or money.

No two machines are exactly the same and each serve a specific purpose. I did a full leg day here and had 3 different leg presses and a hack/reverse hack squat machine to choose from. The cable equipment had every type of handle/grip that you could want nicely hung up on the wall. There are a good number of dumbbells and barbells to use as well. There's a very small turf area with a sled, boxes, bands, and kettle bells. If you only want to do cardio, this may not be the best fit, but if you do any type of weightlifting (powerlifting, bodybuilding, crossfit) this is the place for you!
