    Gomtang
    Leeza N.

Incredible incredible place.... where do I even begin. Not only are the interiors stunning but everything here is intentional. The best gomtang you can get in the city - broth is clear, light, flavourful and the rice is cooked perfectly, thinly slice pork is aplenty and the chive oil is a nice touch. Also got the seafood jeon which was so crispy, tons of chives, bites of shrimp and the dipping sauce was to die for. Such a great addition to the neighbourhood, this place always fills up so book a reso. Really want to return to try their other dishes, especially their rice bowls and desserts.

Food was very good. Small restaurant and cramped but well run and the staff are super friendly. Prices are a bit on the expense side but food is good.

We tried to visit Nui the week before but it was fully booked with no walk-ins. The staff were incredibly friendly and suggested we make a reservation for next time. Came back the following week and were greeted by the same warm, welcoming host, which already set the tone for a great night. Safe to say, we're really glad we came back. We actually started with "dessert" first.. their matcha shake and wow... SO good. Creamy, rich, and perfectly balanced. Honestly, I'd come back just for that alone. One of the standout dishes was the tofu egg jjim, which might have been my favorite of the night. Silky smooth house-made egg tofu topped with a perfectly cooked prawn; light, delicate, and incredibly satisfying. Next was the seafood jeon (also the host's favorite), and it did not disappoint. Unlike others we've tried, this one was extra crispy while still packed with seafood; super delicious and well-executed. We also had the yookhwe with the bibimbap upgrade, which brought everything together beautifully. The lean raw beef, fresh herb salad, and vinaigrette created a really balanced, refreshing dish with great harmony of flavors. And of course, we saved the rest of that matcha shake to finish the meal. Great food, thoughtful dishes, and genuinely friendly service. Nui is absolutely worth planning ahead for.

Checked out Nui, a Korean restaurant, on a busy Friday evening. Service was friendly and staff came by to refill drinks. Menu consists of 12 items highlighted by their gomtang. - Banchan - mustard greens. Good texture - Tofu egg jjim ($11.00) - was told it was similar to a chawanmushi. That's a stretch - Vinegared mackerel ($19.00) - tender - Gomtang ($23.00) with rice noodle ($2.00) - pork broth was homey, sliced pork was dry. Crazy they charge extra for rice noodles - Yook hwe ($21.00) - good but small portion - Dweji rice bowl ($20.00) - standard. Pork slices were plain, nothing memorable - Goguma & ice cream ($12.00) - interesting with the candied Korean sweet potato

Nui is a cozy little spot on Main Street, so make sure you grab a reservation (I snagged one same-day for 5:30pm on a Thursday, so it's worth trying your luck!) The food was quite yummy. The seafood jeon had the crispiest crust I've ever had on a jeon. I also tried the gomtang, which is light and clean, but if you lean toward bolder, more flavourful soups you might find it a touch subtle. My favourite of the night was the seafood salmon bowl with fish roe, which was beautifully put together. I'm very impressed with the food that comes out of their tiny open concept kitchen. Service was wonderful. My cup of tea was kept constantly topped up without me having to ask once, which I always appreciate. I was very tempted by the matcha slush, but made the decision to skip it given I'd probably stay up all night otherwise. Don't let the size of the space put you off. Yes, the tables are on the smaller side, but they offer free coat check and there's even a little hook under the table to hang your bag. Thoughtful touches despite it being a cozy, smaller place!

I always walked by this place on the weekends and it's always sooooo packed in here so I always wanted to come try. Finally got a reservation and I ordered the below: 1. Grape soda (it's pretty good, and it has tiny bits inside) 4/5 2. Mashed potato with smoked sausage add on: 1/5. I have never had such a hard to chew sausage before, it's cold and it hurts my teeth to chew, it costs extra to add this too so it's absolutely not worth it. The portion is also tiny. 3. Seafood pancake: 5/5, it's honestly so good it's so light, crispy on the outside, soft in the inside, im drooling thinking about this. 4. Pork soup: 3/5. I think it's hearty and good, but it's nothing special and definitely not worth the price Overall, I think it's overhyped and over priced. If u have to come here, just get the seafood pancake. The service is good tho, the only thing is they have really tight seating limit, it doesn't feel so right when you re drinking and enjoying dinner with friends and u constantly are reminded that your time is up.

DWEJI RICE BOWL ($20) - very tasty!

This little restaurant next to Matchstick is easy to miss (I literally walked past looking for it). Interior was all wood, clean looking, comfortable. My friend and I came here for lunch to chat away the afternoon and the service was lovely and not rushed, even though the place really filled up during lunch hour! I got their rice bowl with pork slices. The pork slices were thin and delicate and full of flavor with the runny yolk adding the perfect amount of sauce to the dish. Kimchi was served on the side. Straight forward dish executed well.

I'd been seeing this place on my social media and came here with a friend who enjoys gomtang (which I'd say seems to be Nui's signature feature). The space was cozy with dimmed lighting though I wish the seats were a bit more comfortable as they did not have any back support. We shared the gomtang ($23), potato salad ($12), and seafood pancake ($23) as well as trying some cocktails. I really enjoyed the gomtang, as it was the perfect warm soup for a rainy day, and it was gentle but rich at the same time. The server also explained that you can add some provided chili paste to adjust the spice level. My friend's surprise favourite turned out to be the potato salad which was very smooth with an almost mashed potato scoop texture so I'd recommend that as well! Unfortunately, the seafood pancake was quite disappointing as it was very greasy :( Cocktails were solid and were sweet, my yuzu one tasted exactly like the jars of citron tea you can get at the grocery store. Overall, I'd say if you haven't had gomtang and are looking for a small contemporary Korean spot, this is the place!

Nui is tucked away on a quieter stretch of Main St, so parking is actually manageable. The space itself is cozy, so I highly recommend making a reservation. I came here with friends on a weeknight, and we shared everything so we could try a bit of everything. The menu isn't very big. It is perfect for anyone who struggles with indecision. Portions are on the smaller side. My top picks are the Yook Hwe (raw beef), Gomtang, and Gweji Rice Bowl. The Gomtang is their signature dish and the broth is beautifully clear yet packed with deep flavor. The meat in the Gweji Rice Bowl and Pork Jowl Sooyuk are quite similar, so I'd suggest getting the rice bowl and choosing a different appetizer for variety. The only miss for me was the Seafood Rice Bowl. The salmon ceviche and roe leaned a bit too fishy for my taste.

Random night out at Nui without a reservation! We called ahead and the staff were super nice, trying to fit us in . The modern design caught my eye! We ordered Seafood Jeon ($23) - a seafood pancake loaded with Asian chives and shrimp, super crispy! And they merged with Western style topped with dill and Brasil! Vinegared mackerel ($19) with seaweed and wasabi, a nice combo to try!! Gomtang ($23), a soothing Asian soup with rich flavor and sliced pork! Good for both summer and winter!! Tried their matcha splash as dessert!! Rich matcha and best combination with oak milk~ love it!! Will come back again for sure!!

GOMTANG 23 - Sub rice noodles 2 - seasoned pork broth, sliced pork, chive oil, served with a side of house-made kimchi & chili shrimp paste

This is not your typical Korean BBQ style food. It was more small flavourful plates of deliciousness. The tables were all taken or reserved, but we were able to snag the last bar seating which was perfect for watching them make cocktails and drinks. The mackerel came with unseasoned seaweed which we didn't wrap, but rather used it to soak up the leftover sauce.

We reserved a table online. We got to the restaurant earlier. A server told us to give them a bit of time to clean up the table. We walked to a local market on the same street and then walked back to the restaurant. The table was ready. The menu has limited options. We ordered five items to share between two of us. All of them tasted excellent. It was not too salty or too plain. The portion was leaning towards a smaller size. It is a Korean restaurant but it's an upscale and elevated one. More for adults. I didn't see any kids. People come here to celebrate his or her birthday. Some meet up with friends and dine out and catch up. The service was great. Each of the servers was very polite. They would explain to customers about the menu or introduced the food or dishes to customers. They opened in March and now it is mid May. They still call it soft opening. When it is grand opening, I am hoping they will have more options on the menus. And of course I hope they will do well. One side note - there is background music and noise from the customers. Tables and chairs are very close to each other. We could hear the whole conservations from the tables that were next to us on left and right. When some customers talked or laughed very loudly, it was not pleasant. We had to raise our voice and volume in order to talk to each other.

A modern Korean spot that took over where Autostrada on Main used to be. It is a cute cozy little place serving up Korean tradition foods in a modern contemporary style. Service was friendly with tea topped up and played cleared promptly. While there are hooks underneath the tables, it was a bit awkward as they weren't useful for our bags and longer jackets. Some highlight dishes include the seafood jeon (only had prawns) and the tofu egg jjim. Unlike traditional seafood pancake, this one was crispy and light (a bit oily) but texturally very surprising. The tofu egg was creamy and smooth and the ikura gave it a nice savoury burst of flavour. The vingerette mackerel was disappointing. It was served with dried seaweed and you assemble it yourself, but the flavour was bland. The pork rice bowl was tasty with the sauce mixed into the rice and touch of egg yolk jelly. The pork slices had a nice char and smokey touch though it wasn't mind blowing. Matcha slush was a bit small for the price and average. Overall, there are some very interesting flavours and twists to traditional dishes. It's worth trying though nothing was outstanding for us to return.

The bossam and seafood pancake were stellar - probably the best bossam I have ever had tbh! The meat was so tender yet flavorful and the sides made the perfect wrap. The seafood pancake was extraordinarily crispy and delicious with the sauce. While the galbijjim was good too, I was expecting the short ribs not the large back ribs. A lot of items were 30% off which is a pretty good discount considering a lot of their mains are $20-$50. Apparently Sooda is really hyped on google reviews and according to some people online, people line up out the door during the dinner rush. I came here on a friday afternoon near opening time at 12 for lunch with friends. There were only a couple tables occupied at the time. My friends ordered a bulgogi platter. According to the menu, it comes with beef marinated in bulgogi sauce served on a hot plate with cheese, green onions, house made egg-rolls, corn, and rice. It's usually a whopping $49 but with the special 30% anniversary discount it was only around $35 so it was definitely worth it. Our food came in a pretty good time in about 12-15 minutes. The melted cheese was SO GOOD. I love cheese but melted mozzarella is delicious. It's divine. The beef was tasty. I like the bulgogi sauce. It was meant to be mixed with the rice and egg rolls. If you just eat them separately, it's gonna be mid because they have little flavor on their own. I like that they included some small side dishes (banchan) to refresh your taste buds, such as kimchi and pickled radish. It was well needed for such a greasy and salty dish. I really like the vibe and the staff here. They had a couple k-pop music videos playing on the TV and k-pop and pop music playing in the background. The customers at the time seemed to have a good time here. They had some 10th birthday balloons and decorations all over the dining area too. The place is pretty dark with just enough lights and the walls are black which makes the vibe kind of cool. There are some interesting looking giant murals as well Our server was in a happy mood and all smiles. She liked to joke a lot with customers which was great to see. She was happy to answer any questions we had about the menu since it was our first time there. She was the only server at the time so she looked pretty busy. She refilled our waters and asked if everything was good so we felt taken care of. She said thank you, hi and goodbye to everyone in our group as well. Shout out to Seoyoung for being a great server! Washrooms are fine. As far as I know there's only 1 private men's washroom for the entire restaurant but it was pretty clean. A bit cluttered with cleaning supplies but it was clean and spacious. 5 out of 5 stars based on this visit. The 30% off 10th anniversary discount made it really worth coming for the price I paid. Thankfully they were in clay pots so it was still warm at least, but this is ridiculous. There is no reason for this. If you're slow to get food out, fine, but bring it all out at once. The restaurant itself is huge, looks like a lounge and bar but mostly empty. The staff are all dressed differently too in street clothes so its hard to tell who works there. They are clearly struggling with understaffing. We had a caucasian waitress who came by to deliver food. She was very nice and friendly. About the food. We ordered: kimchi soondubu - asked for extra spicy, it was barely spicy. beef/seafood mixed soondubu - asked for spicy, it was straight up not spicy. The broth base was the same for each, and lacked depth of flavour. The tofu itself was pretty good, silky smooth, but tofu takes on the flavours of whatever it's cooked with and in this case, not much... The beef in these was just ok and there wasnt much of it. The seafood in the mixed one amounted to 1 clam and 1 shrimp shell-on. There was nothing else in it. 2/5 for both of these. Gamjatang - medium sized portion, good for 2, maybe 3 people. Meat was ok, broth was not bad. Solid average. 3/5. banchan served with the meals were the biggest disappointment. 2/5. This might be the most disappointing banchan ive had in a Korean restaurant in a long time. They served regular cabbage kimchi, radish kimchi, and bean sprouts. thats it. None of them were particularly good (not bad, just nothing great). And for a party of 4, they served a single portion of each banchan for the whole table. We had to ask for refills 3 more times. You have 4 diners, all with food that comes with Banchan normally. Wouldnt it be reasonable to bring out 4 portions of banchan right off the bat? Especially when you're understaffed? Overall: Main dishes 2.5/5. Banchan 2/5 for overall selection and quality. Service 2/5 - really comes down to severe understaffing and really poor management of how the kitchen is run. The staff there do their best but they need help. Venue 3/5. Overall, 2 to 2.5/5. This place might be the worst Korean place on the Robson strip of all the ones Ive been to.
