Went into this business with low expectations. It looks tiny. It is NOT tiny. It was well stocked, well lit, smelled good, organized, delightful. We ordered lunch and bought items we have never seen before. It was an incredible experience. We will be going back often.

If you are into the unusual and eating at a small little hole in the wall, then you need to come here and try this place out. The owner of this market\restaurant is super friendly. The food is fresh and he knows how to explain what everything is. To me it has a very Mediterranean overtone with pitas and hummus, fried dumplings and salads. Everything we tried was extremely tasty. The dumpling was like a Samosa filled with ground meat. It came with a red homemade sauce that was a bit spicy. The gentleman also brought out a green sauce and warned us it was made with Thai chilies and cilantro. It was tasty, but a little too much kick for this girl. Still, the best thing of all the goodness, was a coconut wafer cookie that I bought from the store. I could tell it had real coconut cream in it. My only regret is I didn't buy more. I'm coming back here for sure. Before I forget to tell you... The prices were so reasonable. Crazy!

Great people, delicious food. This little gem is to die for! I got the chicken shawerma plate and my husband got the beef plate. Portions are huge so be prepared for leftovers. Both plates were flavorful and not too heavy. Currently due to COVID, the dining area is close but you can walk around the market side to kill some time. Our order came out quick and hot in about 10-15 minutes. Definitely recommend and will be coming back!

Today was my first time trying this place out by my work and it's really good! I recommend the beef gyro! Super flavorful and filling and the sambusa is very good! It's my favorite. Thank you guys! Super friendly!!

Food is great! Chicken shwarma wrap is my favorite. Service can be a little slow, but worth the wait. Background music would be nice.

I asked if it was ok that our group dine in and the owner said it was fine, so we did. We were each given a bottle of water while we perused their menu. I'm not sure I always understood the questions he asked, but we got our food ordered. It came out pretty quickly. We just didn't understand what came with the various dishes, so we'd ordered more food than we could possibly eat. Everyone enjoyed the meal and our time together. The dining area looked like it was under construction (which it probably is since they're moving soon), but the owner was very gracious and friendly.

To start with the good, staff were friendly. Service was good and the food came out quick. The space was clean and there's lot of seating. However, I was a bit disappointed in the food itself. I preface this by saying that while I know this is an Eritrean restaurant, a lot of the dishes are similar between Eritrean and Ethiopian food. I really enjoy Ethiopian food, and I was really looking forward to eating here. But the presentation was lackluster; even a quick google search can show how colorful and appetizing Eritrean food can be. We couldn't tell the difference between the beef tibs, the spicy beef, and the regular beef because they all tasted the same. The chicken was dry and hard to chew. I'm not sure if it was because the injera was too sour, but all the lentils tasted the same too. I came in ready to stuff my face but left feeling pretty disappointed.

Connecting the three establishments from behind is a beautiful outdoor/patio space, which will be amazing in the fall. Apparently, they also use the outdoor space for all kind of activities as well. The food is still amazing- plentiful, flavorful and affordable. The service is warm and welcoming. We were excited to introduce a new friend to the wonders of Ethiopian food, and are planning on introducing more in the months to come. Love this amazing Tucson treasure!

Everyone worked together and we never had a set server like typical restaurants, but everyone that came to our table made us feel incredibly welcome. We ordered a sampler to share: Foussulia (string beans and carrots), Yemisir Wat (brown lentils), and Spicy Boneless Chicken. The food came out pretty quickly and was served with three extra injera in addition to the one the samples were on. I have never had injera before, but I found it delightful. You could definitely taste the fermentation! The chicken tasted great, with the spice coming in afterwards. If it weren't for my low spice tolerance, it maybe would have been my favorite. However, the two other samples did not disappoint! Both were very flavorful. The experience of eating with your hands made the night so much more special. There were no forks even on the table, but there were plenty of napkins, which was appreciated, being new to Ethiopian food. Just the one sampler was enough for the two of us to feel satisfied and not overly full. Splitting it this way definitely makes Zemam's very affordable! I would love to come back with a larger group and try more menu items! Definitely give Zemam's a try!
