I am so grateful for the Nesting Place…read more I found the Nesting Place on Instagram when I was pregnant. I was excited to enroll in prenatal education classes here and was even more excited to take my little one to classes after my baby was born. Prenatally: My husband and I took "newborn care 101" and partner yoga for birth. My husband and I loved the partner yoga with Jen. It really opened my eyes on what I wanted for my birth and helped me change my birth goals and plan. I loved the prenatal yoga classes with Jen as well. I also found my doula through the Nesting Place website. I am so grateful to have found the Nesting Place to help me prepare, as best I could, for my birth through education, support and movement. Postpartum - I was even more grateful for the Nesting Place. I saw that it offered "Fourth Trimester groups" at all three locations - Farmingdale, Merrick and Yaphank. I enrolled in a fourth trimester group in Merrick and received an email saying "come as you are." It was very comforting as it was the first place I took my baby alone. I felt supported with other moms going through the same things at the same time. As moms, we are usually the last ones supported and taken care of, and the Nesting place really offers that space for us to be supported in this new chapter as we are also born as mothers. We have utilized so many resources through the Nesting Place - our lactation consultant, Bella, was instrumental on helping us with feeding/latching issues, baby and me yoga, postnatal strength classes, baby and me music and developmental play with PTs, OTs and SLPs. My baby and I look forward to the classes as we can be ourselves, meet other parents and feel so welcomed. I am really truly grateful that the Nesting Place exists during the time I became a mom. I don't know what I would've done without it. I hope others will "come as you are" and try a class here prenatally or postpartum. It really is a wonderful community.

In the first few days, baby was having a difficult time latching and feeding. She was dehydrated and both mommy and baby were struggling. Donna helped us work through it all in just one session- she gave me a plan that worked for me and baby and checked in with us multiple times to make sure it was going well. Baby got back on track- pediatrician even said at a follow up "whatever you did to correct this, keep doing it!" 2 months later, I developed pain and Donna saved the day again. Her well-rounded, non-judgmental approach is effective. Donna is so kind and gentle- very different from the LCs in the hospital. She genuinely cares and is so supportive and easy to work with. As a first time mom and wanting to exclusively feed breast milk, I became very concerned. My baby wasn't latching and the pediatrician suggested I give him formula because "my nipples were too flat and my baby was hungry". I freaked out, called the hospital and someone recommended Maria. I am so glad she did. Maria is so professional, organized, compassionate and I can tell she LOVES what she does every day. She explained techniques that helped my baby latch from day 1! And no nipple is defective, it's a matter of filling in a gap of knowledge. From Maria's portal, to the folder of information and a summary of your visit for you and your pediatrician, to all the great tips and advice, she blew me away. Thanks to her my baby gained 8oz in a week and I am producing 9-10oz of breast milk just from pumping in the morning, imagine how much he is eating directly from the breast. I took it further and recommended her to my pediatricians office because THEY NEED TO SHARE HER INFO WITH MOTHERS LIKE ME who find themselves needing help. Even if it's a refresher or to learn more about lactation, speaking to Maria gave me a sense of relief. On top of all this, she accommodated me immediately when she heard how concerned I was. Her home office is so clean and cozy. I felt so comfortable. I highly recommend Maria to my friends, my family and TO YOU!

We were even hesitant to take a birth class at all--but we're so grateful we took Lisa Greaves' class. While we're planning a hospital birth, we hope to avoid a C-section if possible, and Lisa's class truly empowered us to feel comfortable and informed about all of our options. We learned about laboring at home longer, pain management strategies both with and without medication, and how to advocate for ourselves throughout the process. By the final session, we felt much more knowledgeable about pre- and postnatal care and genuinely prepared to welcome our baby. We also really appreciated the sense of community and the additional resources the class provides. Can't recommend it enough!

The second night our baby nurse was with us, we caught her asleep with the baby on her chest. At 5am, I called out her name multiple times to initiate breastfeeding and for her to bring the baby to me. When she didn't respond, I realized she was asleep. Immediately concerned, my husband turned on all the lights in the room and yet still had to rouse her awake. We felt deeply uncomfortable finding her in a position that put our two week old baby in danger - any healthcare worker for babies would know that sleeping with the infant puts the baby at a greater risk of SIDS. When my husband told her she wasn't needed anymore and should go home, the nurse asked if she did anything wrong. She didn't know? Then she blamed me for her falling asleep with the baby. What was also upsetting was that the agency pushed us hard to still compensate the nurse. We got a lot of agency pushback, even on the secondary issues outlined below. They were more interested in siding with the nurse rather than hearing our concerns. They fed us a line mentioned by another reviewer here "we have never had any issues with this nurse before". I really did not buy that, and I found it unsettling the agency had so many lines to back their nurse even when their own promises to the client were unmet. The agency still expected us to pay the nurse, however if they felt strongly she should be compensated, then they should front the bill... not the consumer. How else are poor practices going to be corrected? Initially they were only willing to credit their agency fee, but we were adamant and eventually we reached an agreement to pay for the first night only -- which we had said from the start we were willing to do. There were also a few issues with this baby nurse at the onset - the agency asked for personality that would be a good fit and 'takes initiative' with 'provides coaching' were top of the list. Services like 'maintaining the nursery space' were not followed through on - after the first night, for example, I was cleaning poop off the wall and diaper caddy from a 'projectile' diaper change that had happened in the first half of her shift (the agency in her defense: "Had this happened on multiple occasions?"). The nurse had no issues spending her time watching videos from her phone. She also provided 'coaching' based on outdated medical practices (such as cleaning the umbilical cord site with alcohol) so my husband and I felt we were doing most of the coaching. And her assistance with breastfeeding made it clear she didn't know the basics. She also interjected to the lactation consultant I was meeting with virtually- never mind I hadn't invited her to partake in the calls. All this despite 20 years with the agency... There were also issues with the agency. We were not provided a method of communication for over the weekend in the event issues like this arise. We were just given the nurse's name, but no phone number. We received no email confirmation of the booking. We had no indication of how to pay and we were not sent a contract. The booking was made for Friday and I couldn't speak to anyone until business hours Monday. There is no email listed online and no one available outside business hours. When I called first thing Monday morning, they asked why I hadn't left a voicemail. But how would I have known to do that when their automated message says to call back during business hours? Fortunately I'd sent a message via their website's contact form detailing the issues the morning we let the nurse go. Of course the nurse had already called and had a different story. The agency was proud of their low turnover rate - I suspect there was no reprimand for this nurse. I'd never work with this agency again.

Thanks to the breathing techniques, visualizations, and overall mindset preparation she taught, I was able to have an unmedicated 7-hour labor (most of it at home, arriving to the hospital almost 8cm dilated!!) with no tearing--delivering a healthy 7lb baby girl. Elizabeth's guidance gave me the confidence to trust my body and stay calm through every stage of labor. The tools I learned helped me through my surges, stay as relaxed as possible, and truly embrace the wonder and joy of the birth experience. I'm beyond grateful for this course and would highly recommend it to any expecting mama looking for an empowering, positive birth! She truly cared so much about my husband and I and took the time to walk us through each and every step. We were so nervous being first time parents about the birthing experience and she truly not only prepared us but really put us at ease. When it came time for the actual day of the labor things did not go exactly as planned and Elizabeth was right there for it all! I cannot imagine going through that whole experience without her there. My husband feels the exact same way. She also was so great with the doctors and nurses. She never overstepped but kindly had my back throughout the process. I do believe that should she not have been there, the hospital staff would have pushed me to do things that I didn't want, like a C-section. It took far more time to do a natural birth but with her support I was able to have my daughter vaginally like I very much wanted. If you are considering hiring Elizabeth as your doula, I would definitely do it! She made our pregnancy and birth feel so much safer and she really took care of us every step of the way.
