As a doula and IBCLC, she brought an incredible wealth of knowledge, compassion, and calm to a time that can often feel overwhelming--especially as first-time parents. Our daughter arrived three weeks early, and thanks to Kathleen, we felt prepared and supported every step of the way. She helped us understand what to expect and guided us with care and empathy through each stage. Her support didn't stop at birth--Kathleen was invaluable during the postpartum period as well. She quickly noticed feeding issues with our daughter and helped us navigate them with expertise and reassurance. I truly believe that the only reason my daughter is exclusively breastfed today is because of Kathleen's guidance. What made her stand out even more was her ability to make us feel safe, informed, and confident in the choices we made for ourselves and our baby. She also recognized signs of postpartum anxiety in me and connected us to helpful resources without hesitation. With no family nearby, we were nervous about going through this alone--but Kathleen stepped in and truly felt like family. If you are looking for a doula and/or IBCLC, look no further. Kathleen is a gift, and we are so grateful she was part of our story.

I had been to a few lactation consultants before meeting Kathleen and literally none of them were able to spot this. I was getting useless advice like "make your boob a taco" or "bring baby to boob, not boob to baby". Kathleen saw it though and that was a true game changer! Meeting Kathleen was a lifesaver. She came to my home for our visits when I was really struggling and gave me actionable, manageable things I could immediately do that day to improve my situation. Besides identifying my daughter's ties, she also gave recommendations for other professionals we could use that would help and an action plan for how to move forward. She is incredibly knowledgeable in a way that I don't feel all LCs are. Thanks to Kathleen, I am still breastfeeding my 17 month old and I truly attribute much of that to her help. Working with her feels like working with a mom friend that has your best interests at heart, but also knows what the heck she is doing. I recommend Kathleen to all my mom friends and she will be one of the first I check in with to book if and when I get pregnant again!

I had an extremely traumatic birth and my daughter had to be in the ICU for days and during that time I had no supply and the hospital was pumping her full of formula. Nanette made herself available to me via FaceTime while trying to figure it all out in the hospital and then was here first thing when my daughter and I came home. Once we came home I felt even more defeated, she wouldn't latch and I was devastated that I just wasn't getting it. But through Nanette's kind words and encouragement that we will get it I was able to relax and let the process begin. She started with resetting our experience together and recreated all the moments we wanted to have in the hospital. We did several chest crawls and then my daughter finally got it! We worked on latching and different ways to feed along with her giving me all the signs to look for with a proper latch. I am excited to say that my daughter and I have exclusively breastfed every since our sessions with Nanette and I feel more confident than ever feeding my child. I would absolutely recommend her services, they truly can make a difference in your experience with breastfeeding

Her determination and consistency in checking in is absolutely unmatched. She is truly passionate about her mission to help mommas breast feed their babies! I went from not having my baby latch AT ALL to fully breast feeding within 48 hours of working with Nanette. Working with Nanette was by far the best decision I made in this breastfeeding journey. The joy of being able to successfully breastfeed my baby after many tearful, stressful nights is impossible to describe! Thank you Nanette!

I initially reached out because I wanted to understand my options, but I honestly did not think I would be eligible for a home birth due to age and gestational diabetes. From my very first conversation with Amy, I felt completely confident in moving forward. She was very responsive, listened to my concerns, answer all of my questions, and walk me through the entire process. She also addressed concerns I had after reading some negative information online before I made a final decision, which quickly helped ease my fears. Her openness, honesty, and willingness to have straightforward conversations gave me the confidence to move forward. This was my third baby and my first home birth. My previous two births were hospital births at Chesapeake Regional and Portsmouth Naval Hospital. While I am grateful for the care I received, there were many aspects of the hospital environment that were difficult for me, including constant interruptions, bright lights, lack of rest, and feeling like the experience was more focused on the process than allowing my babies and me to have a gentler transition. My experience with Pineapple Babies was completely different. My baby stayed with me the entire time after birth, and we were able to rest together for nearly two days afterward, waking only to nurse and eat. It was such a peaceful and special experience that I wish every family could have the opportunity to experience. The prenatal and postpartum care was also wonderful. Appointments felt personal and relaxed rather than rushed, and everyone was always available to answer questions and provide support. After experiencing an unexpected 12 days of exhausting prelabor with contractions starting and stopping, Amy and Gennette helped reassure me and keep me calm. When I passed my due date and became very concerned, Amy responded quickly and helped put my mind at ease. During one of my prenatal visits Gennette also helped me address a low iron level through a referral that made a significant improvement, which my previous OBGYNs ignored. When my water broke shortly after 3am, everything progressed much faster than expected. Amy answered immediately and stayed on the phone with my husband and me, recognizing that things were moving quickly when I actually thought I had more time. She was in her vehicle within 5 mins and rushed to my house arriving quickly as I already was going into active labor and preparing us while she was racing to our house. Her experience helped me through an intense and fast labor. Her team members arrived shortly before the birth. Everyone worked together seamlessly with my doula and provided incredible care. They stayed afterward to make sure my baby and I were doing well and had everything we needed before leaving. I am so grateful that I chose Pineapple Babies and that I now have the memory of welcoming my daughter into our home. It was an incredibly meaningful experience for our family and I would absolutely recommend Amy and her team to anyone considering midwifery care or home birth. One small area for improvement would be the scheduling. At times, making changes or viewing updated appointments was a little challenging, and I occasionally noticed changes without notification only after receiving reminders or logging in. However, this was minor compared with the exceptional care and support I received throughout my pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience.

When my one month old son was gasping for air (March 2021) while he was nursing, I thought what the heck, and made an appt here. The nurse tried to diagnose my son with both a tongue and lip tie, as well as speaking unprofessionally about how "bad" his torticollis was to the person she was training. She took photos of the inside of my child's mouth with her cell phone. She said if I'd like to see a cranial physical therapist I should just go to the one attached to them in their building because Sentara has "such a long wait list". After leaving, I immediately called my son's pediatrician who got him in to say that he does not have a tongue or lip tie. I have also seen a specialist since this visit for my son's torticollis who said it was a very mild case and he recommends we just come back in 6-12 months to see how it progresses. Flash forward to last week (July 2021), I get a call about a mistake Tricare made with my insurance claim for the pump I received in Jan. Tidewater called me while I was at lunch with my husband saying I needed to pay for the breast pump out of pocket immediately over the phone. They said I had a separate insurance (which I don't) and I literally thought it was a scam as she wanted me to read my card information over the phone while I was at a crowded restaurant. The entire process has been frustrating, but there was never any mistake on my part with the billing. I got it figured out, but the people I had to speak to from this business spoke to me in a very rude, condescending, and unprofessional way throughout the entire experience. I would recommend you go somewhere else for your lactation needs.
