Several texts and emails with updates of when the power would be restored.. Worst case scenario was 9:25 am.. best case was one 5:15 am.. Pros- I have two furrbabies that were keeping me warm! Another pro- hubby being an electrical engineer had already said what the outage would be from.. Just grateful the power came on and things went back to normal.. Nevada Energy operates as a monopoly in Las Vegas, as there are no alternative providers offering residential electricity service in the area. Customers are effectively left without choice, which makes the quality of service even more critical. Unfortunately, the service provided has been consistently disappointing. The customer support experience is inefficient, response times are slow, and billing transparency leaves much to be desired. In a market without competition, one would expect a higher standard of accountability and reliability, yet that has not been the case. In a competitive market, companies are motivated to improve service and customer satisfaction. Here, there is no such incentive, and it shows. As customers, we deserve dependable service, clear billing practices, and responsive support -- none of which I have consistently experienced. I am grateful that I was not one of the 34,000 without power in Northern Nevada this past week during our recent snowstorm. Maybe if I was, my review would have lacked a few stars, but hey, it isn't NV Energy's fault that we experienced up to 18 inches of snow on the valley floor. I am subscribed to NV Energy's alerts, and am notified when there is an outage in my area. When I had rental properties in Fallon, I could let my tenants know when those outages would be resolved. I commend the city for their swift creation of warming centers. I sympathize with those that lost power. I am grateful that NV Energy workers rose to the occasion and fixed problems as fast as they possibly could. Utility rates are much more expensive than when I lived in another State, but this is Nevada, a different weather zone with it's own uniqueness. read more

I called them immediately after the email telling me my payment was declined and they were going to cut off my power. The gentleman told me it was a mistake! So, I'm currently on hold to talk with a manager about my situation. I've been holding for 25 minutes. It's 10:40 pm, so I'm guessing they're not burdened with calls, yet here I wait. And wait. And wait. The gentleman returned to say a manager could call me tomorrow or I could hold. Since my power, according to them, was going to be cut off, I requested to hold. After another 10 minutes, I finally got the manager, a woman with first name Lynne. After asking for exactly what the email said, she assured me she'd check on things and let me know. When I asked for her last name, she wouldn't supply it. OK. So, I asked for the first letter of her last name. She refused. Wow!!!! They're a huge company. Why refuse? Okay my honest opinion, when I first moved to Reno in 2012 I got majorly scammed by NV Energy. They tripled my power bill in my apartment, something was wrong. I was SO ANGRY! However, things settled down, my bill mellowed out and all was forgotten about. I know people have issues with utility companies and yes, I was mad at the time. Fast forward a few years, I really have no opinion. I have forgotten about my lost money and since then, I have been working for NVE for over 5 years now. It is a good place to work and I love the location of this building. We have great views from the windows and freedom to go on walks. As you can see in the photo, there are many rainbows lighting up the sky on dreary Friday afternoons. Please be patient with this company, as there are many departments working on various tasks. People take for granted the LIGHT that INSTANTLY comes on when they flip a switch or charge their beloved cell phones. read more

DO NOT GET THE SMART THERMOSTAT. I had an independent contractor come to my house . He was clueless. Got everything taken apart. He took off old thermostat. New eco bee thermostat wouldn't work. Went to the furnace. He had to call someone to find out why it wouldn't work. Turns out the new thermostat was not compatible with existing wiring. He had to take it all apart again. He put back old thermostat and left. It turns out he didn't get the old thermostat put back correctly. In my opinion should have known from the start that it wouldn't work. After switching my power from another person to myself in early 2022 I asked if they were gonna charge a deposit and she said no...great. This last month my bill was 850 dollars. I called to see what was going on and was told because I was late on a payment or payments (I'm not sure if it was just once or twice) so they charged me a deposit. No warning, like, hey you've been late once don't be late again or we'll charge a deposit. Why couldn't the woman who originally switched me over warn me? This kind of seems a bit predatory. My kids, wife and I have been without power for 72 hours and no restoration realistically in sight. We just got our power bill. It is substantially here gher to run our heater now. I get restaurant prices going up because the cost of meat and produce costs more. So what excuse can NV claim? A few months back NVEnergy screwed me over by sending me texts and emails saying my automatic payments had been received, when they weren't, and not notifying my that they weren't received, and then charging me a MILLION extra fees because of their error. Flash forward to now, I was on payment assistance to make up for the difference, I wasn't able to pay online, due to THEIR error, again, and now they're adding even more fees, and want a full $600 payment or they're going to have me immediately disconnected. NV ENERGY MAY BE NEGLECTING BUILDING AND REPAIR CODES! Every year the power goes out in my area (South East Vegas, near Henderson) when there is a storm with heavy winds. I stay in apartments that are barely 6 years old. I've lived here 3 years, but other neighbors confirm it's happened since the apartments opened. With that said, it seems very plausible that this companies infrastructure for power near my area is being neglected. This is another way of saying that this energy company isn't up to code with either their equipment and/or procedures to address a power utility company's problem legally. If heavy winds cause outage, then why do other areas power stay in tact after a similar storm? The neighbors two blocks from me always have power quick. They seem to just "patch things up" and forget the real problem that could prevent the power from going out. Note that this is only my area, which affects around 1000 people. Who knows what else they mistakenly or perhaps intentionally neglect next. read more

Trying to set up a service, called three days in a row and at least two times a day to be placed on hold and then told they have "high call volume" and will call me back. When I first entered a call queue I was told my wait was 8-11 minutes so why after 14 did they say they must take my name and get back to me? I've had to call these guys EVERY SINGLE MONTH lately because they keep sending me notifications that my payment is not being received when I pay on the app or website, even though it's been pulled from the same account for YEARS and they conveniently get to charge late fees even though I have clarified my account info EVERY MONTH with a customer service rep and it has gone through EVERY TIME I'm on the phone with them . Then this month I have a charge for a deposit of $90 ? For what ? I've been in my current residence for 6 months , there shouldn't be any deposit . I called and spoke with people in Oregon, Las Vegas, NV tonight and was told to find somewhere else to go, and to leave my water running so my pipes don't freeze. What Brainiac turns off peoples power when its below freezing and snowing? 4 weeks ago it was in the mid 40's at night, that was the time dipshits! Terrence comes all the way to Dayton and repaired the Thermostat and transformer in this elderly couples home. This man deserves recognition and a raise for going beyond his job. I've contacted them several times and 90% of the time have had an issue with them disconnecting or not calling back when stated they will provide that service. Their Customer Service is absolutely awful. My bill had MORE than doubled and considering the times we are facing, it's disappointing because this is NOT an optional service. In addition, the equal payment plan is not recommended it has me paying almost triple the cost of my usage. read more

Terrible service - had a completely Different mailing address on file for me (one I've never even heard of). Took payment from my account twice and re-issues payment (sending out a check). Check was never received. Refuses to direct deposit refund, and refuses to re-issue the check until it has been "at least 30 days" since the check was issued. TERRIBLE. There was no problem withdrawing the money from the account, but it's quite the problem to refund the account. read more

I am very with regards to my interactions with NV Energy. As far as customer service agents go, I find the CS reps to be professional and helpful. People need to remember these people are doing a difficult job to the best of their abilities, and have little control over company policy. I finally gave up and tried their automated phone system, which does not understand how I spell my last name and keeps trying to dump me into a call center. NV Energy has advertised that they are the "Green" power company in Nevada. Perhaps the only power company, or is it that they have all of their dirty technology out of state, and import power across state lines? There is no alternative to NV Energy in the region. I would like to see apartments and condo developments solar powered, with less reliance on dirty technology. It's more of the circumstance that sucks, it's partially my fault, but screw it, here goes: Unlike 99.5% of the civilized world, I don't own a cell phone. After this experience, I'm gonna start thinking a little more seriously about buying one. They're also useful in case of emergencies, family, etc. Sorry--off topic. So I get home last night, drunk, with two containers of food, looking forward to a nice post-drinking snack. I unlock my door and flip on the light switch...nothing. The microwave, cable box, everything is off. No big deal, really. I figure due to the recent snow there's been a power outage...they've been happening all over the area since the snow started again. Then I look behind me at my neighbor's house and see the glow of lights and warmth. Keep in mind, I turn my heater off when I'm not home, so it's about 40 degrees inside the house, and freezing outside. Then I notice the disconnect notice taped to my door. Goddamn it. And with no phone (and being late not wanting to bother anybody) I can't do a damn thing, and have to sleep in a cold house with no TV, etc. I've dealt with much worse conditions. I light some candles and stuff my face with some food. Then I go to bed in the forty degree house, fully clothed, with all the blankets in the house piled over me like I'm sleeping under the bridge. At least eight blankets, and I think a couple jackets were thrown on the pile too. Wake up the next morning. Need to call in to work since, I'm, well, in desperate need of a shower, and also need to resolve this f'ed up situation. I get to the pay phone, call in to work (I'm gonna at least be late), then call NV Energy. I hold for twenty minutes. I know this because after 15 min. I had to deposit another 50 cents. At this point, I feel like a panhandler rummaging in my pocket for more change (at least I had the presence of mind to grab $2.50 in quarters before leaving the house). Finally I get an operator with NVE on the phone. After giving her my info, she says no payment has posted. I explain that I paid the bill directly online through Wells Fargo, that I paid it Thursday night. It's now Tuesday morning. Payments usually post in two billing days, so by now it's been three days. "NOPE no payment is showing." said with the vocal tone of a gum-snapping, harpy-like waitress. Me: "So can you tell if there's been a payment that hasn't yet posted to the account?" It: "Do you have a confirmation number from your bank?" Me: "No, since MY COMPUTER IS AT HOME AND I HAVE NO POWER @ HOME TO LOOK UP THE E-MAIL WITH THE CONFIRMATION." It: "Then I can't look it up, or find that out." Me (mentally): Bullshit. If a payment has been made, but hasn't yet posted, she should be able to see that information (even if there's no amount) and at least let me know that something's pending. Me: "So how can I get it turned on today?" It: "Make a payment at Scolari's, Raley's, etc. etc." Me: "Can I do it over the phone with my bank card?" It: "Yes." Me: "Is there an extra charge for that?" It: "$4.95." HEEEEELLLLLLLS NOOOO am I gonna give this f'in place any extra money at this point. Nope nope nope. So I head over to Savemart, where the service desk woman was kind enough to inform me that even if I paid the bill, it doesn't post for 2-3 days, and that they wouldn't turn my power back on even with a confirmation. Good. I'd hate to pay this damn bill three times. Scolari's took the payment and gave me a confirmation and receipt. My friend and I decided to go to breakfast, and I call NVE on her phone and again get the long-ass hold. This time the recording asks for a number that I can be reached at in 14-20 minutes, so I type in my friend's cell #. At breakfast we get a call back. The second operator was at least pleasant (one star for her) and, after giving her some personal info, said that a payment had posted and that the power would be turned on again today. But wait...I didn't give her the Scolari's confirmation yet? What?! She said she can't tell the source of the payment, other than it's from a BANK. Me: "From Wells Fargo?" She: "It doesn't tell me that." Me: "OK, I just made a payment for that same amount at Scolari's, could that be the one that just posted?" She: "No, it's definitely from a bank. Scolari's would show up differently. We received it yesterday from your bank, and it just posted to your account at 10 a.m. today." I made the initial call at about 9 a.m. So had I waited an hour (or if the original operator had any clue how to look shit up on the computer) I could have saved myself time, trouble, and cash. 90 min. later, we return to the house and a woman in a truck is restoring power. Nice lady- fast service- gets one more star. Overall, NVE and Wells Fargo though, they can collectively suck my nutsack. read more

For being the monopoly in the area, it is getting really ridiculous. I have lived in Reno for nearly 30 years until recently we moved to our new house in the South Reno near Galena area, I have experienced so many power outages it is getting super ridiculous. It used to be a burst outage due to some glitches, but now we are often being out of power for hours, one time we couldn't even go home because our gate was completely out of power. Just a month ago, we almost missed our vacation flight because the Airport was completely out of power in the morning. Then the mall area was out of power. As I'm writing this review off my phone, our area is completely out of power again, and all I can find is due to their broken equipment! read more

It encompasses about 25% of my total bill on average. OK so as everyone who is feeling the penny pinching times of our economy so was I. Approximately 2 weeks prior to paying my bill I made an arrangement as it was pretty expensive. When I made my arrangement I was told only a partial amount was due and I didn't need to pay the whole thing. I expected to pay my whole bill but instead got in a car accident and had to deal with a couple other bills. So what happens after I makea partial payment of the past due ballance, the following monday my power gets shut off. I call and explain to the gentlemen that I have NO MONEY to pay my bill; and ask him what can I do to get my power turned back on as I had paid the past due portion and was technically current. He explained that since I defaulted on my arrangement that they had shut off my power and the best they could do was I'd have to pay 75%. I said maybe you didn't understand me when I said I have no money. I of course was extremely pissed off since the fact that I was current they shut it off cause I defaulted on my payment. It's like calling to your car company saying hey I'll make an extra payment then not making it and you wake up and your car has been repo'd even though the extra payment wasn't needed. Luckily I had a co-worker who took care of me an I was able to get my power back on. Anyway NV energy that was shady and definately puts a bad mark in my book. I don't expect sympathy but come on everybody who doesn't make 6 figures a year is more than likely struggling as I am. read more

They are the WORST company to deal with in regards to anything. Customer service is TERRIBLE. Everyone that answers a phone from them sounds miserable and is automatically rude. They monopolize the energy market in Nevada so they get away with asinine charges. They notify you by mail if there was an issue with your auto pay rather than sending an email so you get a return fee and a late fee together. Plain and simple they are crooks. 9/10 times they are NOT willing to work with you. I am employed, I am a disabled veteran I also had money in my account but had an issue with fraud on my account and they wouldn't even knock any of their extra fees off. Worst part is the extra fees were more than my bill. Moving out of state at the end of the month and had to figure out the hard way that my payment didn't post.
