When I've had people from Southwest Gas come out for potential gas leaks, they've always been terrific, and I have no complaints about the actual gas service itself. Unfortunately, my experience with the billing and account-management side has been a very different story. I'm currently trying to update my automatic payment information to a new checking account. I have no bill currently due, and Southwest Gas says that payment information can be edited online through the Auto Pay section. However, when I go there, there is no option to edit or remove the existing account. I was able to add my new checking account, but I cannot delete the old one. I'm doing my part to make sure my bills are paid on time. Southwest Gas should do its part by making sure its online payment system actually allows customers to manage their payment information. This is especially frustrating because it follows several other billing and account-management problems. For four years, I received not one but two paper bills for the same account, despite calling and asking that the duplicate billing be stopped. Then, more recently, a bill for my current address was sent to my old address, where I haven't lived for five years. The person who now lives there actually contacted me about it. Southwest Gas attributed this to a Post Office error, although I have not experienced this problem with any other company. Taken together, these experiences make Southwest Gas seem like it is not a well-oiled machine when it comes to account management, billing, and paperwork. The people who come out to provide gas service have been excellent, but the administrative side of the company needs some serious attention. read more

Too bad we, as customers, are a captive audience and don't have an alternative for natural gas in Las Vegas. When it came time to sell my Las Vegas home and purchase another home in Las Vegas, I set up a "transfer" from one home to the other. Apparently, the stop order was fine but the start order wasn't recorded "in their system" at least that's what I was told by SW Gas customer service. Apparently, the seller of the new house put a stop order on "MY NEW HOUSE" on August 11th (5 days after we officially closed on the property) and SW Gas left the gas on for 29 days (their official policy is 30 days). Since I transferred service, I assume everything is cool. On September 9th my gas shuts off while I'm cooking breakfast. No notice sent to my address, no email, no phone call, no note left on the door, no knock on the door, no doorbell...just snuck on the property and quietly shuts off the gas and puts a lock on the meter. And the kicker is, they cannot send someone out for two days to turn the gas back on. I offered to pay for a service call including overtime, whatever it takes, but no, they cannot accommodate a simple same day, or next day restoration of gas service. Every other utility transfer from our old house to the new house was seemless. So, to Southwest Gas, continue to enjoy your monopoly and lousy customer service over us in Las Vegas. read more

Terrible service, I've planned to have my gas turned on for over a week and the technician continuously claims they're unable to enter my dwelling even though a key is under the mat and management for my apartment complex gave a key to turn on the gas. I had an incredibly frustrating experience with Southwest Gas. They initially set up my gas service at the wrong apt, and instead of correcting their mistake promptly, they tried to make me rebook my appointment for the following day then the worker put the wrong apt again so i had to rebook for the following week due to this issue as well. After pushing for a sooner appointment, I was given an all-day window with no specific timeframe. This is extremely inconvenient, especially since my leasing office closes at 6 PM. If the technician arrives after hours and can't access my unit, So i would have to reschedule meaning another long wait. Since this is happening on a Friday, missing the appointment would mean waiting until at least Monday to rebook, and based on their scheduling availability, I could be left without service for another week or longer. The lack of organization, communication, and professionalism from this company is unacceptable. If you're considering using Southwest Gas, be prepared for delays, scheduling headaches, and poor customer service. I wouldn't recommend them even though you would probably have to use them. read more

A late review for the staff of SWG that responded to an underground gas leak at our home. On Oct 10, we had a visitor who (as he was leaving) said he smelled gas. I did smell a faint odor, but it was so faint, I wasn't worried. A couple hours later, the Mrs stepped outside & said she smelled gas too. I didn't this time, so I asked my neighbor to come over & get his opinion. He agreed with the Mrs, so I called SWG. The lady on the phone was very helpful & gave a detailed list of safety suggestions to follow as we waited for a company rep to show up. In less than 10 minutes a SWG member was here with some equipment & began checking out the area where we noticed the odor. After a short period of time, he said there was an underground leak & shut off the meter at our home & the neighbors. Then the SWG vehicles & employees began showing up. They advised us to stay out of our home & not flip any electrical switches. The Mrs had 2 crockpots of ham hocks & beans cooking, so she was a bit upset. But, we managed. Turned out that, over the years, our neighbors tree root, had pushed the gas line, causing the line to move & cracked a joint. The repair was accomplished quickly, but it had been leaking for some time & had saturated the ground. The crews set up an air line pumping air into the ground & exhausting it out a large pipe. Someone from SWG stayed here the entire time taking samples every few hours. They were on scene here for 26 hours or so, aerating the soil. Fortunately, we weren't restricted from our home for that long. About 9:00 pm, they turned our meters back on & an employee went through our home, taking air samples & assuring all our gas appliances worked properly. Each employee that came here were all very nice & quite friendly. Each took time to explain what they were doing & why. If we had a question, it was answered politely & throughly. And even though I was on a payment plan, they told me there was nothing they could do since it was already off. Last night, around 10:00 pm, I felt like I was suffocating and smelled some type of gas in the apartment, which seemed to be coming from outside. I initially called the Fire Department, but by the time they came the smell outside was gone and there was only a faint odor in the house. They were pretty dismissive, but since they did detect a low level of gas in the apartment, they offered to send Southwest Gas "for reassurance." Within less than half an hour, Michelle came. First, she took me seriously, and even though she did not get a gas reading in the apartment, she investigated the area outside around the building. She then came back up and explained that I was smelling mercaptin from a natural gas leak in the regulator outside and that she had fixed it. I was worried, but she also assured me that natural gas is non-toxic and that my symptoms were likely from the gas displacing oxygen in my apartment. Once she fixed the problem, my symptoms disappared. Michelle went above and beyond, as she spent time investigating the source of the problem even when it wasn't immediately apparent, and she was friendly and kind throughout the process. read more

For the last 13 years my gas bills were reasonable. In the last 3 months they have gone up 50% - 70%. That's outrageous. When I called Southwest this morning the CSR said the price was reflective of the price they had to pay for the gas. I say B*S! Called Southwest gas at 8 pm due to I was smelling a gas in my garage. They responded and sent Nick within 20 minutes from the time I called. Nick was very courteous and knowledgeable. As soon as he entered my garage he immediately said it's gasoline not gas. But he checked everything anyway I found a small leak on my water heater gas line. They have a 2 step verification now but I never received the email with a verification code to login. Tried it 10-12 times even though that email has been on the account since 2009. They don't allow a text option. Called customer service and they refused to help me because my husbands name is on the account-not mine, even though on 3 previous occasions he has talked to them and asked to add my name to the account so I can deal with issues. I suspected a gas leak because my Bill jumped up exponentially. I arranged for a SWGas tech to inspect my home and units for safety reasons. I had to wait 4 days. When the tech finally arrived, he was annoyed, aloof, and disengaged. He never went into my attic to I inspect my furnace. When it came time to look at my pool heater, he told me, "I'm not a pool guy". He checked my gas meter, then disabled my water heater to see if that made any difference at the meter. After all of 15 minutes, he told me my high bill was due to the weather and the high price of gas. And he left. The next morning, sadly, I found out he never restored my water heater to working condition, leaving me with no hot water. So, I called SWGas to have them send someone back out to fix their error. I was told, they do t do that and I would have to hire a third party contractor out of pocket to repair the water heater the SWGas tech broke. WHAT? Oh, but they have a list of third party contractors that can help. Can you say scam? Can you say kickback? If this were any other general contractor, that came onto a property to effect repairs, causing damage, there would be a path to restitution. Nope. This is the ONLY option in Clary County for natural gas so they can practice deceptively and their customer/consumer is at their mercy. read more

On 12/06/2022, I received a notification left on my door my gas was being shut off. Due to "repair on company facilities". This is a residential home. I'm disabled, this was a huge issue. Since it is winter, I was unable to cook, dry clothes and mainly heat my home! When I called to restore service, it was stated to me. The service was "active" and they had no notes stating why service was shut off. I'm currently doing dialysis, which is very debilitating. I can't be available a lot due to Dr's appointments, fatigue etc I want my service restored immediately and NEVER to be shut off again (unless in case of emergency) and an apology letter sent to my home. Now, Southwest Gas is making me pay for notarized documents and doing a bunch of paperwork because they don't believe me!!! They have also ruined my credit report. Horrible company! I've paid my bill via automatic payments through my checking account on-time for years and for this most recent bill I decided to pay early via my credit card to get 5% in cash back rewards. Upon payment via their online portal a convenience fee was added, but this fee was not readily displayed prior to payment. The convenience fee was higher than the rewards I would have earned so I called into Southwest Gas immediately to reverse the payment because the payment was still processing. A service representative told me that I would have to contact my bank to stop the payment before it was finished processing. They did NOT proceed to tell me after the fact WITHOUT me asking directly that then I would ultimately be charged a $10 return fee for the stopped payment, which is greater than the convenience fee being charged for using this payment method. In this case it would not make sense to stop the payment, but it seems like they just wanted more money for me and intentionally withheld that detail from their customers. After sharing how disappointed I was with the lack of information shared, they offered me a one-time courtesy waiver for the $10 stop payment fee if I decided to go through with contacting my credit card provider, but they said that they cannot waive the convenience fee or cancel my credit card payment despite it not finished processing in their system. I just want to switch to paying my recent bill via my checking account like all of my previous bills after learning this information, and I thought this process would be easy. I am completely appalled with how they treat their customers and make us jump through hoops to resolve something so simple. I never had an issue with Southwest Gas until today, and I'm really hoping a competitor can come in and break up this monopoly of bad customer service and corporate greed. For now, I will pay future bills via automatic bill pay, and hope I don't have further issues, but as soon as a new competitor comes into the market, I am jumping ship as I know now that I'm nothing but a number to Southwest Gas. read more

I tried to preheat my oven and it would not get hotter than 145°, also put out a big gas smell. I called their gas leak number & they sent someone out within about 20mins. Kelly & Vince were friendly, very knowledgeable , & super thorough. Not only did they figure out what was wrong with my oven, but they found that my gas clothes dryer was leaking as well. I had just bought that new 2 weeks earlier at Lowes & their Co. installer had used the wrong size coupler They also replaced the thread tape on my gas water heater as that was attached wrong too!!! Unbelievable how fast & efficient Kelly & Vince were. I honestly feel a lot safer now like they saved my life. Best of all, it was a completely free service....Wow! read more

I smelled a gas leak coming from my pool heater riser, they quickly sent out a technician named Dave. Very fast and efficient. He located the issue and even setup the gas line to make it easier for the plumber to fix the leak. I called Margo for a contractor referral and she quickly got me in touch with someone. A very stressful situation made pleasant and easy by Dave and Margo. The gentleman who took my call whose name i can not recall was very fast and helpful as well. So on Monday I get home to SW Gas working in the street in front of my home due to a gas leak. My house of course and other homes do not have gas due to the Gas Techs shutting the gas off which is understandable. Well once they were done, the tech on my ring camera advised my family while I was away at work that they'd be back in 30 minutes to turn everyone's gas back on. 30 minutes go by and no one shows. I called SW Gas not once or twice, but 3 times due ro being given different information about my gas being on. I asked 3 separate times because I have a brand new water heater and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to turn it on. Come to find out on the 3rd call from the emergency line dispatcher basically told me my gas a was off and I was given bad information from other phone representatives. So I was told within 20 minutes technicians should be coming to start turning gas lines back on. Well needless to say the tech I received was cool for the most part until he claimed my furnace was done wrong. I had purchased a brand new furnace and air conditioner. The company who did the install is practically family and has a license and owns his own business with a/c. Plus the a/c passed inspection as the inspector checked all areas where work was actually physically done. The gas tech who I will not name stated he would have to turn my gas off cause it's not up to code and could cause carbon monoxide... Long story short he shows my furnace and the flex line to his boss and speaks with my family friend who had the install done for me. The tech is not a licensed hvac tech and only deals with gas. The tech refused to acknowledge that it passed inspection and then had to do his own research and found out the line was installed correctly. Basically calling himself out and saying he wasn't knowledgeable about the lines used. Put my family and myself on edge when hear carbon monoxide and shut down the gas. If we had another gas company out here I would of had there services! Between the reps on the phone and in person was a utter joke. The gas company has zero respect for its customers and obviously allows incompetent employees to work for them! read more
