I came in after I had a drink at a local bar that was dead inside. I am left because this bar had better vibes. They had about four options of cider drafts which was a pleasant surprise. I enjoyed trying a few options before i decided on my final draft. Overall a cool little bar with the ability to pick the music and meet some local patrons. Excellent place if you appreciate good craft beer that won't break the bank. The workers are very knowledgeable and a big perk is the Saturday night guy is gorgeous! haha The customers are always fun and friendly the place is very clean.. you can bring your dog and even have dog treats It would be difficult not to have a good time here. If I had to say one negative thing it would be that the location is a bit trite. Going to a tap room in a strip mall is a downer.. from the outside it kind of feels like you're entering a nail salon or a yogurt shop. NW Growlers is the best. My wife and I have been going here ever since we moved to John's Landing, and every time we go we make friends. We aren't even big beer drinkers, but the atmosphere here is so great, it makes it such an inviting place to hang out. I like the place so much that we asked the owner, Johnny, if we could have my wife's 30th birthday here! They let us have a private party for 25 of our close friends, and it was amazing. Jasmine was the best server we've ever had, and only added to the experience. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for good beer or a nice place to hang out with some friends. read more

I just had a really great 3 hours at NW Growlers on Macadam. I sat at the bar and had a few beers. I had a great time chatting with a couple of the customers, and trying the beers. After a few beers, I switched to Kombucha and ordered Thai from next door. Great beer options and you can order out. But what makes NW Growlers really different is that they have great people working there. A great example on the night I was there, the bartendar, Elaina, juggled taking orders, making sure the bar ran, carefully cultivated conversations with customers, so had the presence to use great interpersonal skills and was incredible with all the customers with regards to making sure that no situation was out of control . And she made sure that I made the right choices on beer...the Willie Nelson from Block 15 was incredible! I will come back to NW Growlers, of course, because of the great beers, but also because I like the way I was treated and the great atmosphere that is obviously present there. read more

Comfortable place to hang out. Friendly servers are knowledgeable and helpful with recommendations. Seem to have steady customers and during the hour or so I was there several customers came in to fill growlers. They have reasonable prices per glass or growler fill. One of the best places to get your growlers filled and have a pint or sample tray while you wait. Most growlers range from 12 on up to 16. They almost always have a beer by Boneyard or Barley Browns on hand. They always have 30 beers on tap of which 2 tend to be on nitro. Tuesday nights they offer two of their beers for 2 dollar pints. Most pints are 4. You get to build your own taster tray as well instead of get the bar tender picks at most microbrews. They are not open that late though. I think they close at 9. The service is also top notch. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. The place can get a little crowed at times. I think they also allow dogs inside, but not certain on this rule. Not sure where they other JC got the idea of buy one get one, but they do have a punch card system where buy buy 10 get one for a buck. The 2 dollar pints change every Tuesday as well. They even have free popcorn for you to snack on. There's no food menu that's why it's dog friendly. But you can bring your own food which is a great plus. Their taps always run the gamut - from pilsners to sours to barrel aged stouts - and I've never had a bad beer there. They also have a nice selection of bottles. Despite having a reputation as a dog friendly city, dog friendly bars in Portland are rare. Bars that let you carry in your own food are even more rare. I work down the street from here so I find myself grabbing post work beverages here often. The beer selection is above average and changes frequently. The best part about this place is that they allow you to bring your dog in ( as long as he/she behaves)! Most of the time you can find the cute chocolate lab puppy "Choco" ready to greet you when you walk in ( he is the owner's pup). They don't serve food here but you are welcome to bring in food from elsewhere and there happens to be a Thai spot right next door! The staff is attentive and very friendly. NW Growlers is a pretty decent neighborhood bar. The crowd is eclectic and usually includes some of Johns Landing's finest denizens. The beer list is rather large and diverse, and everyone in our group found at least 1-2 beers they really liked. There are various daily specials during the week, like $2 Tuesdays. There is free popcorn - self-serve - with a huge jug of butter for your pleasure. Service is friendly. My wife and I love this place. First off, they have a wonderful selection of about 30 craft beers from the Northwest and beyond. We love to go sit at the bar, test out a couple pints that we've never tried before while shooting the shit with the guys that are working, and then fill up our growler before leaving. They don't have their own food, there is now a taco place next door - you can order over there and they will bring it over to you. There is also a thai restaurant a couple doors down. I'm not sure what the two most recent reviews are about but this place is great. A huge selection of beers,cider, and wine. If you can't find something on draft they have hundreds of bottles to choose from also. The beer tenders are extremely knowledgable and not only that they use digital pour which explains each beer so it shouldn't be an issue when it comes to ordering if your looking for a specific style. I'm saving my first 1 star rating for a place that's truly awful so 2 stars is the least I can give NWG. Out of the 30 taps I would drink at least 1/2 of them and the place seems comfortable enough. My experince was meh at best. Last week I called ahead to see if they had happy hour or any daily deals. The gentleman on the phone said no happy hour but Tuesday they have a few taps that are $2 pints. Then... I must have been confused because the sticky note at my desk says buy one get one growlers. At first I wondered, maybe it's just the glass jug and not a fill. It's not unheard of though, Pyramid / Portland brewing does it every Friday. "See you next Tuesday!" I said, pun intended ;) I made a special trip this Tuesday to check them out. When I asked about the BOGO growlers the bartender looked at me like I was crazy. "We've never done that, who'd you talk to?" He proceeded to tell me I had probably talked to the owner which made no sense at all. How could I get this kind of misinformation from the person in charge? I left without filling the 2 growlers I had clean and ready to go plus, the $2 taps were all Euro style beers (not my thing). I spent $5 on 1 pint with no intention of returning. Now, I'm not sure how I made this up in my head but whatever. On the way home I spent $13 on a 12 pack at Safeway instead. read more

This place is pretty close to my home, so I do stop by from time to time. They have a pretty decent taplist, though I don't think it compares to places like Tin Bucket, Roscoe's, Beer O'clock and the like. They also typically have some bottles and cans for sale as well here. Service is usually pretty decent, though for some reason they seem to keep on losing employees here. If you're a dog owner or aficionado, then this is definitely a good place to come, as the taphouse is very dog friendly (there's almost always several owners with their dogs here). There's no kitchen here, but they do have free popcorn most of the time, and you can bring in food from one of the nearby restaurants if you choose. Prices always seem pretty reasonable. Can't put my finger on it, but for some reason NW Growlers just isn't a place I've ever been able to warm up to. I usually have an OK time here, but every time I leave, it's with the expectation that I won't need to be coming back any time soon. One thing I will say, this location is definitely NOT closed! (though the fact their website has been down for roughly a month now, as of 7/4/18, is a concern). Edit from 6/22/18. Stopped by again the other day, and it occurred to me what the problem might be. As is fairly typical, there were probably 5 or 6 dogs roaming around NW Growlers the afternoon I was here. They were all friendly enough (I'd like to think the owners wouldn't bring them if they weren't), but as can often happen when dogs encounter other "new to them" dogs, there would periodically be fits of barking. Personally, I find that a bit uncomfortable and annoying; all the more so when everyone else (including the employees) act as if nothing has happened and this is perfectly normal (and so no reason to do anything about it). My guess is that if you're a dog owner, or just love dogs generally, then this probably is perfectly normal and not something that will bother you. However, if you're fairly indifferent when it comes to dog ownership, or if you outright feel uncomfortable around dogs, then you probably are not going to want to come here. In my case, I like dogs just fine, but not enough that I always feel comfortable with some of the doggy behavior that goes on at NW Growlers. read more

PUPPIES!! PUPPIES EVERYWHERE!!! I love this place - it is my favorite growler/tap house in Southwest because PUPPIES! Besides the puppies, they have really friendly staff here, namely, Greg! Greg is super knowledgeable about beer and always make fantastic recommendations. I love the new tables they got, too! The ambiance is chill and you can bring your own food. They have free popcorn for you to munch on here, and sometimes if you accidentally dropped one, a clean up crew would show up immediately to help you clean up the mess ;) Met a lot of great people here, it's a nice place to celebrate friendship and puppies with great beer/kombucha! read more
