If you're not sure if you're at the right place, you've made it there. It just looks like every other Portland house from the outside, but on the inside it's super classy speakeasy vibes. Some of the best cocktails I've ever had -and they're pretty generous with their alcohol. Overheard one of the bartenders saying they had been bartending for over 20 years, and it shows. About a year ago, I randomly found out that one of my favorite jewelry designers / artists moved to Portland and opened a Speakeasy... and I finally got to visit it! and What a name! Bible Club! A huge shout out and congratulations to Ryk Maverick (and the Starlingear team) and his not-so-new-ish-anymore speakeasy bar! From outside, this place just looks like an old house. There is no sign either. The doormat does say "Bible Club" and there is an outdoor patio with some lighting next to it though. That is just about all the hints you get that this place is a bar. Once you enter... omg... I know Ryk Maverick is a huge antique collector, so it does not surprise me one bit that he created this amazing venue that mimics what a speakeasy would have looked like from the Prohibition era. The venue is filled with antique furniture, memorabilia, and decorations. I am attaching several photos of various areas inside the bar. I feel like other photos of this place already posted don't do justice! I used a wider-angle camera feature of my photo to capture as much as I could. My group came here after eating dinner so we did not order any food. We did order cocktails. I got to try at least a sip of each and they were all excellent. This is a cute spot to hang out with friends. The idea of it is fun and they've been here for 9 years. I think that having traveled the US and hunting down speakeasies has turned me into a speakeasy snob. I was quite disappointed in this place with their drinks and their service. The guys were nice. Both Joe and Nick were friendly. But service was meh. I don't think I have ever sat with an empty glass for as long as I did there. I went to the outside back patio of the Bible Club on a Friday night and had a lovely time! There was good live music, good ambiance, and a lively mixed crowd of all ages 21+. While vacationing in Oregon, we stopped to visit some dear friends and they brought us here to enjoy some cocktails and light bites before dinner. After we parked street side (the only available parking), we walked down what appears to be a residential street located in the Sellwood Neighborhood in Portland. My friend headed up to this random house. At first I was taken aback wondering where she was going. She asked us to follow her, and we entered the fabulous Bible Club. Here you will step back in time (1920's) into a very intimate setting. Lights are dimmed, and the Ten Commandments hand-crafted cocktail list awaits your selection. The atmosphere makes you feel like many people probably felt back during the Prohibition. Sneaking into an illicit drinking establishment, grabbing a drink and hoping you don't get caught. Accompanying this whole vibe is live jazz music. Could not ask for a better environment to imbibe. We ordered the Underwriter and the Aerofizzicist. Both cocktails were really tasty and a bit on the strong side but we enjoyed. We all shared the Caprese Sticks and the bomb Baked Meatballs. Both dishes were so savory and it was just enough food to hold us over for dinner. In addition to the speak easy, they have the Revival Patio out back that is open year round and is covered. It also features heat during the cold season. There is live music each Friday and Saturday. This was truly a memorable experience and I will definitely return. This whole time I had no idea this gem of a speakeasy was so close to me - and I guess that's kind of the idea. It looks just like a house and it almost felt uncomfortable to walk on in, but I'm so glad I did. The drinks were a 10/10 for me. I thought I was going to like the Sweet Sayonara the best considering I love passionfruit and matcha, but I thought I didn't quite feel the drink worked. The separate parts were delicious on their own, but I wouldn't choose to have a matcha coconut foam on a passionfruit drink again. However, the Wicked Garden and the Dreamcatcher really saved it. The Wicked Garden is similar to a Mai Thai. It was a beautiful pink color and tasted of pineapple and orgeat. I love a good Mai Thai, so this was up my alley. The true star of this whole show was the Dreamcatcher, though. I have never tried a clarified milk punch because, honestly, the concept freaked me out. I didn't realize this was a milk punch when I got it and it opened my eyes. It really felt like a London Fog in cocktail form and I'm obsessed with it. I came specifically for the drinks, but the food didn't disappoint either. The bruschetta was essentially what you expect solid bruschetta to taste like. Next time I would go for the Caprese salad because I saw it at another table and it looked so fresh, while the bruschetta was just solid. We also ordered the shishito peppers and they were so delicious. They're in a caramel sauce that gives them a sweet flavor that pairs so well with the savory of the pepper. My only hold up is that it's a lot of peppers to just eat, so maybe order for more than two people. We were even pairing them with the smoked formaggio, which was so special we thought about ordering a second one. The cheese was perfectly salty and smoked. It was gooey and soft and I wanted to crawl in it and sleep there. Whew. I will probably never come back without ordering that cheese. To finish, we got the passionfruit mousse cake, that had such excellent passionfruit flavor. There was some kind of citrus in the middle that had an odd texture and not much flavor, but it was well worth the experience of the rest of the cake. read more

I went here on a Sunday, of course, as the name suggests. The place is very unassuming outside, so it can be easy to miss, but it is basically a house. It gives quite a speakeasy vibe, especially when you open the (unlocked) door at opening, since the inside has a bunch of cool artifacts that you can take a look at. There is a separate bar in the outside patio, but the OG, speakeasy experience is inside the house. From what I hear, wait can be long, but it was a slow Sunday - I didn't need to show up 30 minutes before opening (3:30pm) as I've heard otherwise, as it was not a full house until we left around 5:30pm. I tried the Wheeler's Bane which is very smoky (the bartender holds the smoke in for additional flavor and effect), and it is quite strong. My friend got the Underwriter that is more fruit forward and tiki-like. We then shared a final drink, the Forever Antique, which is more of a lighter, fruity, cool drink. Overall, the drinks are fairly solid for the price, a bit more emphasis on the dark liquors in most of the cocktails. read more

Came here with my girlfriends for dinner one summer evening. We wanted to try something outside of the neighborhoods we're typically in. I adore Sellwood and Bible Club seemed like a good pick. From the outside, the establishment is very unassuming- normal Portland house. The inside is transformed into dark wood and deep red colors, very old world. Though Bible Club identifies as a speakeasy, I wish they had a menu with more variety. It's predominately bread and cheese which, don't get me wrong, I love to the ends of the earth.
