This company is irresponsible, rude and doesn't listen or respond to tenants and downplays environmental and health hazards of their products, endangering pets and animals. THEY USE HIGHLY TOXIC RODENTICIDES AS THEIR MAIN PREVENTATIVE OPTION FOR RODENTS EVEN THOUGH THESE BAITS CAN KILL ANIMALS AND SICKEN CHILDREN & IS HEAVILY RESTRICTED BY THE EPA .
I had a wasp nest in my walls last summer, which were coming into my bedroom and landing on my face (which a different company dealt with last year). I asked the new co to treat into the walls to prevent another nest as I already had one wasp this spring. They kept refusing to do it...the rep I dealt with Brad would not call when he said he would, would not respond to my msgs and didn't come over when he said he would. He wanted to take a "wait and see" approach for if/when the nest became more active--which by that time I'll be stuck under siege again like last year. After arguing with my building mgr, Brad did finally come over to treat the walls. But he didn't do it as we discussed--using a ladder thoroughly hosing into the large cracks and holes. Instead, he came into my apt, did a half-assed spray job by sticking the hose into some cracks (I don't even think he got the main hole)--this is the same stuff the exterminators did last year and it didn't work). But the thing that bothered me the most was HE SPRAYED THE KITCHEN WINDOW SILL. My cats lay on this sill. I have asked over and over again that sills not be sprayed and treatment be restricted to the holes and cracks outside NEAR MY BEDROOM. I asked if I should keep my window closed for some hours or days to reduce exposure to me/my cats and Brad gruffly said "your window was already closed when I came in." Yeah dude, I know it was closed when you came in. That doesn't mean I keep it closed all the time, esp in the late spring when it's warm out and I want fresh air. So rude.
This same guy from NW Pest Control laid out over a dozen rodent bait stations around the property, as well as put them into several people's units, which NW Pest Control promoted to the building mgr as a way to *prevent* rodents (note: we don't have an infestation). These baits contain highly poisonous Brodifacaum, which was recently banned by the EPA for OTC consumer use due to the high risks to children, pets and wildlife but a loophole still allows exterminators to use them. Any animal that attacks/eats a rodent that eats this bait can also get very sick and die--that includes tenant's cats/dogs and the hawks, raccoons, foxes, etc. that live in this neighborhood. Not to mention, kids also get sick from accidental poisoning. I asked Brad about this, he said the bait posed no risks to any cats or hawks that eat poisoned mice. I was familiar with these traps because I worked as an environmental educator for a gov't wildlife agency. I looked up the exact label on the station on the EPA website, as well as spoke to my vet and animal poison control, all which let me know that it would indeed would be fatal for animals who eat mice who eat this bait. The EPA pdf on this bait station is here:

So, either Brad baldfaced lied to me about the potential risks to people and animals or he is ignorant of its risks, which is disturbing that a licensed exterminator isn't educated about the products they are using. The EPA only recommends using these bait stations as a final alternative when other treatments fail, NOT as a preventative (putting out bait actually will lure rodents to the property) and to place them in areas not visible to or accessible to kids and pets, yet they are plainly stationed where kids play all the time and I've watched kids in the complex put their hands on the station. But I guess environmental and public health safety is not a serious concern of NW Pest Control. read more
