I felt safe with my conversation with him and the fact that he gave me a clear quote (you can see below why this was important to me). I was in a panic when learning that my couch wasn't able to fit through the doorway into our 2nd floor apartment. If I could give 0 stars, I would. Disclaimer: I cannot speak to the quality of service provided by this company, as it was never provided. I can only speak to the level of professionalism and how they treat other human beings. I have never been spoken to (yelled at) so profusely by a business before. I ordered a couch online that upon first delivery attempt didn't fit through my building's front door. The delivery company took it back with them, and told me I can schedule a redelivery attempt once service such as this one was found and booked. So I called Fabio, explained the situation, let him know that once I pick a day for redelivery and it is approved, they give me a 4 hour window the night before delivery for estimated item arrival. He says no problem. I tell him on Friday, October 10th, that it is "confirmed for delivery tomorrow, 10/11. They will contact me with a delivery time window later tonight". Once I got that time window, I told him 11:45am with a 30 minute buffer on either side of that time. At 11:55 he asked if the couch was delivered yet. I said no, but we were still in that time buffer they gave us. Still, I gave the delivery service a call, and asked for an updated time. They explained they were a little behind with one order and said 1:00. I let him know, and apologized profusely for the delay. He then explained to me that he was leaving. He had gotten there at 10:45 in the morning, and that I wasted his time and needed to pay him more than the $600 he was already charging For this job. I continued to apologize profusely, told him I was completely at the mercy of this delivery service (who normally only gives 4 hour windows for delivery, mind you, something I told him when I booked him) and if he left now I would be stuck with a brand new couch on the curb outside my apartment. I also inquired why he came at 10:45, if the first time window I gave him was 11:45 with a 30 minute time window on either side. Turns out he had misinterpreted the date I gave him, saying it would be delivered ON 10/11, as AT 10:00-11:00 (even though I immediately followed that date by explaining that I wasn't provided with a time yet) and had gotten there earlier than the time I provided him with. I then called him to plead with him not to leave, and leave me with a brand new couch on the curb. When I tell you this man screamed at me on the phone, that is an understatement. I have NEVER in my life been spoken to the way Fabio spoke to me, let alone by a business. He texted me after the phone call, threatening that he recorded me and everything I said on the phone call. I was happy to hear the threat of him recording the phone call (although that would have been illegal of him to do so) and I asked for a copy of it. I would have loved to attach it, along with several screenshots of text message receipts/proof to back this review! Bottom line is, I'm sure seeing from the other reviews, that this man does a good job at moving couches. However, if you want to trust that someone will treat you with respect, basic human decency, or hell, even to know that the job you need done will actually get done (especially during as stressful of a time like moving!) proceed with a lot of caution! I'd rate a six if I could. Ok, so, I bought a massive 2-door, five shelf cabinet from Restoration Hardware. Paid a lot (ALOT ALOT) for it, and to have it delivered. Measured it twice, figured if I was off, the delivery crew would figure it out. Paid for delivery. The movers arrived with my piece, got it onto the freight elevator, up to my floor and realized, this thing will NOT fit. It wasn't going to make it off the elevator. The movers got it back,)not the elevator and took it down to the freight elevator lobby, stood it up after getting it off the lift, and said...here are your options. They could put it on the curb for me, or I could have someone come, CUT 9" off the bottom of the piece and then reattach it all, Frankenstein-style once they got it into the apt. I paid them and sent them on the way. Meanwhile, the bldg super and the maintenance guys said, let's see what we can do. Three hours later, we only managed to take the doors and back of this massive cabinet apart. This thing was built like a tank, and it was gonna take heavy munitions to pull it apart. Because it was sooooo nice, no one wanted to destroy it, so the super said it will probably have to be cut apart. He said, leave it here overnight, go upstairs, google it, get some rest, try again tomorrow. I decided to google it, and there's some wild stuff out there, so I came to YELP. Found three companies in NYC that offer furniture disassembly/reassembly. There's a competing firm with a similar name and not as many reviews, so I looked at NY Couch Surgeon. I searched around, dug through the NY Couch Surgeon's site again, walked away, looked again. Slept fitfully. In the morning, I called Fabio, shared the situation and prayed he would leave the Sawzall at home. He quoted me the price (reasonable range considering the predicament), we scheduled a time (important to note here that the man is fully insured, thoroughly professional). He and his worker arrived, and first things first, went to see the apartment, surveyed the entry, elevator, and final location. Next we went to the odorless, backless, expensive ass cabinet that was too wide, tall and big for what we hoped to accomplish. I want to pause here to say to you that Fabio makes it very very clear that he doesn't prefer to mess with RH furniture because it is very very difficult to pull apart without damage. If you need that high end piece moved in, but don't want it scratched, DONT BUY IT. Seriously, if you care about it looking pristine, pay a carpenter and get the item custom built into your space. Not gonna happen otherwise - the piece is going to be damaged/scratched because you failed to plan. I failed to plan and had to write a glowing review...don't do what I did. So Fabio and his guy muscle the cabinet onto the freight, we get to my floor, the thing will not exit the elevator. He grabs a sledge, separates the base from the case, and he and his guy are able to get it off the elevator. Now for the SURGERY. The piece will not go into the apartment as is, so he locates all the screws he can find, removes those, then he breaks the glue seals holding this thing together, and bangs apart the case slowly but surely using the sledge. Once he gets one side freed, he removes the shelves, Carrie's the remainder of the carcass into the apt, and then, REBUILDS the cabinet exactly where I wanted it, this time using stronger screws than original to ensure it doesnt fall apart. Short story long - HIRE THIS MAN. I'm not just writing this because the NY Couch Surgeon pulled this off - I don't write reviews. His service was impeccable. He had everything he needed to get the job done. He considered all options before breaking out the dreaded Sawzall (I had nightmares about that thing). When he finished the job, you wouldn't have known he was there. No walls, ceilings, doorways or floors were scarred or marred. I'm not a paid spokesperson. I'm a real guy whose ass was in a sling, and the NY Couch Surgeon helped us get it done. I truly think the screws are tighter than they were out of the factory. Be weary, bigger couch disassembly companies have fake warranties that cover their cutting and gluing back. My couch truly looks 100% and I cannot overstate that. Fabio even gave me tips to clean it - the man loves couches. I will undeniably call him when I move out in a few years and will recommend him on Yelp (clearly) and to friends. I was a little worried when the saw came out, but within an hour my family heirloom was back together and you wouldn't even know anything happened. I hired Fabio to fix my sofa last year. I will say he did a great job! And if he hadn't overpromised his "lifetime guarantee," it would have been a 5 star service. However... I have to deduct 2 stars because he promised me a "lifetime guarantee" of his work (which gave me comfort when I was spending several hundred dollars on a sofa repair), but when the sofa started experiencing the exact issue he fixed 18 months later, he told me it "wasn't possible" and rushed me off the phone. So I guess I would say you can feel confident hiring Fabio, knowing he's a very nice guy and a skilled sofa repairman, but I wouldn't put much faith into his "lifetime guarantee." read more

I confirm what all these positive reviews say. Fabio is responsible, Fabio knows his job 100% and Fabio is fair. I contacted Fabio via Yelp and he responded within minutes with some key questions to determine what was required and was there when he said he would during Coronavirus. He came wearing gloves, mask, and ready to go. He quickly evaluated and diagnosed the problem and set out to correct it, cleanly and professionally. At my request, he explained what the problem was and what he would do to correct it. I'll summarize it by saying that the couch feels better, more firm and comfortable now than it felt it was purchased. Others who call themselves "doctor" and "surgery" are bad copy cats or people who like a bad doctor will misdiagnose your problem and leave you with bigger problems. My daughter's Joybird couch broke when a couple of her friends sat on it, so I removed the fabric on the bottom and found that it was beyond my capabilities to repair. A couple of the braces had become detached from the frame, one side of the frame was cracked, and the corner near the crack had been twisted out of alignment. It was a mess. After reading the reviews here, we called Fabio, and he showed up the next day at the appointed time. Unfortunately, our co-op building management would not let him come up to the apartment until they received a Certificate of Insurance. An oversight on our part - but Fabio kindly waited in the lobby until the issue was resolved. He then set to work on disassembling, repairing, and reassembling the couch. He put it through a stress test, and when it failed, he made additional repairs. We were delighted with the results.
