We hired Wood Vitalize to refresh our original, 1935 floors at our new-to-us house in Jackson Heights. We had originally been talking with a more "standard" flooring company. The first company told us that the floors were too old & worn and that the only way we could refresh them was to rip out the original floors and replace them with modern panels. We mentioned how sad we were to lose our original floorboards to a friend and they suggested we reach out to Adam at Wood Vitalize. I'm glad we did! Adam came to the house and, immediately after saying hello, got down on his hands and knees to give them a close look. He helped us to pick an option that would protect the floors and give them some new life, without sanding off the character they'd gotten over the last 90 years. He also helped ensure the rose inlay in the original floors wouldn't get destroyed with his process (other flooring companies had told it was unsaveable). Wood Vitalize's quote for the work was reasonable and they even replaced a few floorboards that had gone rotten underneath the radiator without charge (thanks again!). They were able to do all the floors in our 3/2 townhouse in one day (arrived on time, stayed late until it was done). I'm very pleased with their work and owe our friend who referred them a big thank you! So I'm passing it forward. Adam and his guys did a great job for me on a high end project in Chelsea. His guys mobilized and had all the equipment and materials needed. The site was challenging with owner being home, staining and match one wood species with new plank then matching a color from another wood sample. Adam and his team restored my very, very old loft floors from the mid 1800's. The floors were originally stained dark cherry and there were cracks, nail heads and were in pretty rough shape. The team spent TIME belt sanding and then sanded with orbital as my floors are extremely uneven. They replaced around 60 boards mixing and matching. We corresponded over the weekend, and he arrived at the unit to assess our floors promptly upcoming Monday. He gave us his honest opinions and a walk through of what he and his team would do if they were to take on our project. He actually offered two packages, one was a deep level of sanding VS. Very light sanding, due to the floors being in good condition already. We went with the light sanding, and when he advertises "dust less sanding," that's exactly what you come back to. First, and most important, our floors now look beautiful. The scratches and dings are gone. The nail polish remover which had probably been there for years before we moved in is gone. The closet floor which I ruined by using the wrong cleaner is now back in shape, and shinier and more beautiful than before. Our floors look amazing. We had a tight timeline to get our floors refinished before we moved into our apartment. We also have a difficult building with a lot protocols. Adam was familiar with our building and was able to get all the paper work together quickly and find a date that worked in our timeline. We ran into an issue with the voltage of our building and so Adam and his team had to adjust the work and timeline a bit, but the communication was incredibly clear and easy. They were in terrible shape--whitewashed maple (looked like it had a thin coat of white paint, and was yellowed, blackened, and marked in many places). The floors in our apartment were in OK condition - certainly not terrible but they had worn in several places and probably only had on sanding left in them. The Sandless approach basically buffs the floor removing all of the dirt and scratches before they apply 3 coats of a water-based sealer.
