NYC Floor Pro is as good as it gets. In 2017, I had them remove old hardwood floors in my prewar coop (only in living room, foyer, and hallways), they added soundproofing, leveled the floors (as much as they could) using plywood and topped off with prefinished red oak floors. Back then I decided not to do my bedroom or my kitchen but soon came to regret it. I recently decided my bedroom floors needed to be brought up to the same standard as the rest of my apartment. I was also sick of the ugly tile floors in my kitchen. Fast forward to a week ago when John's crew worked magic to upgrade the rest of my apartment floors (see pics attached). They did the same process I described above for my bedroom and added vinyl flooring to my kitchen. I highly recommend NYC Floor Pro and of all the contractors I've used during my current renovation, I was super pleased with the professionalism all around from dealing with John to working with his crew. I greatly appreciated how considerate and pleasant the crew was and appreciated how well they cleaned up after themselves (since I had painters coming in the next day). John was also super helpful in getting me all the documents I needed to submit a comprehensive alteration agreement that was approved quickly. I highly recommend John and his team for your hardwood floor needs. My pre-war studio came with old, dark, extremely uneven, and damaged floors that needed to be completely ripped out and replaced. John's team was able to strip out the old floors, level the sub-floor, install the underlay, install new solid hardwood, and install the baseboards in just 3 days! The Mirage hardwood that John uses as a supplier is a high quality wood, and I'm very happy with the final look of the floors. My apartment is so much brighter now that I have to dim my lights! In terms of process, from the first point of contact when he came to do the initial quote to the final payment, John was very professional, informative, and responsive throughout the whole project. My building made us go through an unusually lengthy and challenging approval process, and John did everything in his power to ensure we got approval in a timely manner. I recently had a floor repair and refinishing done in my apartment and would recommend NYC Floor Pro without hesitation. As you go through your selection process for contractors, you will come across several personality types. Some seem too casual, others snooty and some others just too busy or too eager. After talking to a few in the trade, it was clear that I should pick John Danino. He came across as trustworthy, sincere and knowledgeable, and seemed to care. On a side note, his was one of the two highest quotes I received. John deployed a crew of three, including the foreman--one specialized in sanding, the second seemed to focus on the easy fixes while the foreman was working on the non-trivial parts and also overseeing the work. John would come in for a few minutes each day to check on the work. Overall I am pleased with how the work turned out. John and his team were dealing with a floor that was not laid out well in the first place, so there were limitations in how much they could improve it. Within those constraints, they did a nice job. A couple of lessons I learnt from this work: - clear the space and do not rely on the flooring team to move any furniture around. John had told me about this. They are not professional movers, so you are better off clearing the workspace with the help of movers. I had just one piece of furniture I could not move--my closet. It couldn't be easily disassembled and ended up causing issues during the work - check the work actively and closely along the way. John's profitability is predicated on finishing the work quickly. That speed I discovered comes at the cost of attention to detail. The team returned for touch-ups twice, but I wish I had been more observant and flagged the issues real time since it is harder to fix imperfections in flooring work after the fact All said, I would go back to John when I need any more work done on my floor, a bit wiser from this recent experience. We recently moved into a new home and needed to match 3 bedrooms with the rest of the house. We were able to plan ahead and they turned around the place on a tight schedule. This was a low to medium quote from the few we received. The floors look very nice. There was some stain on the trim but I have been told that is very normal and you should expect to repaint part of the baseboard. There was one interaction where a door stopper had been broken and we were told in an aggresive way it was not their fault. The companion quickly picked up the door stopper (where he knew it was) and replaced it. The customer isn't always right but don't come at me bro! I know when I break things. They caulked the hole and sanded it. We'll paint it. read more

Refinished my floors about 8 months ago. Paid between $4-5000. The finish was average leaving many cracks between wood. The kitchen was renovated after this refinishing. Some of the old finish showed and we called John Danino to refinish an area approximately 27" x 39", He had two workers sand only the old area and put a yellow gloss over it without sanding down the entire small area. He said he did it "as a favor". The floor turned yellow and darker then the surrounding area. It was unacceptable. He said he will do it again the right way for $800. We would never hire him again. His favor turned into a catastrophe having to hire another refinisher to do the job properly and pay for his mess do be removed. read more

My wife and I bought a condo which needed hardwoods installed in two rooms and a lot of existing hardwood refinished. We already had a very strong flooring referral from a trusted friend in the real estate business, but we wanted to make sure we got multiple quotes and found NYC Floor Pro online. When the day came to get our quotes, the other guy was late, didn't call until after his time window was up, and then was late again, but John from NYCFP was the polar opposite. Some other contractors told me that I would have to replace the whole floor, but John told me that he could easily replace the warped boards and sand and stain the rest of the floor to match the color He broke down the quote for me and explained each part to me so that it made sense.
