I can't say enough about Buono's. I had heard good things about the company from other folks in my building, as well as on Yelp, and from the first moment I requested a quote through Yelp, Lou Buono was responsive, courteous, and an actual pleasure to communicate with. If you've worked with a lot of folks in the trades, this is very much the exception to the rule, and as such I was pleasantly surprised. Lou quickly got back to me with a very reasonable quote, and once we agreed on the details and a date, we were off and running. We had some damage and discoloration on our white oak floors, and we wanted to sand and refinish them. Lou was helpful as we got together the paperwork my building required to get it done. On the agreed upon day, his guys showed up on time, and while they weren't the excellent communicators that he is (their English wasn't great), they were conscientious and obviously knew what they were doing. Lou said the work would take 1-2 days, and they were done in just a day. We had a minor hiccup after the fact, but Lou immediately investigated the issue, and handled it well. Lou Jr. and his crew did a great job helping me replace a water damaged floor. They were responsive, helped with all the condo paperwork and when I was under a major time pressure, they were able to schedule in the work so I was able to meet my deadline. One of the things I was nervous about was that the one room that needed a new floor might end up slightly lower or higher than the rest of the apartment. They someone knew what to do so that the floor is completely even. There's a tenant in that apartment and she's happy with it. Jeanette is phenomenal and a wonderful office manager. She was responsive and always accessible, and was the only reason we chose Buono's compared to its competitors. That said, everything else we experienced fell short; Jon came and did the estimate/walkthrough initially and mentioned he would provide oversight to his team, and we proceeded to engage them to install wooden floors into our co-op building. However, he was nowhere to be found after that initial meet and subcontractors who were constantly delayed and untimely showed up on several occasions which left us with a poorly done job (wires everywhere, a closet space completely missed, and obvious gaps against walls). This was unacceptable, and unfortunately my husband had to go back and forth with them until the workers returned to do proper finishes. This was 2 years ago. ***So providing an update In a matter of two years, there are already several obvious gaps between wooden panels showing up in multiple locations across the apartment. read more

I recently purchased a coop apartment and decided to take a full renovation around the house. Just like many other people I hired Buono's Flooring to refinish the floor(about 900 sf) even though there were companies that offered much cheaper quotes because Buono's had several good reviews. I will not go into the details outside the flooring job although I have to say Buono's Flooring had violated my community parking rules and almost costed me $500 fine and project rejected. It took them 4 days to "complete" their work although they said it'd take 2-3 days. I don't mind delayed work if it's for the quality of work but it was entirely because of their own schedule for they had "another work to do" and had to leave after 4-5 hours of work almost everyday. In addition there was no word about the work progress. On the 4th day around noon I had an email from Buono's that their work will be done around 1PM and they want me to be there to approve the work and make the final payment. When I arrived, the guy said I can't go in because the floor is still wet but still he wanted me to just pay the whole remaining balance. I refused to do so because I wanted to see the place with my eyes and make sure all the job's done correctly. The guy had to leave because he had another work to do and their office told me that they will send someone by 4-5PM when the floor is adequately dry so we can walk through the house to see the work. I waited and waited outside until 5:30PM and no one came and no word from Buono's. When I called they said no one's coming because it's too late and they had nobody available. When I went inside the house, I immediately noticed several areas I specifically requested to fix were not fixed at all. In addition, There were still a bunch of flooring material, a bucket of construction waste and garbage lying around the balcony and in the kitchen. The next day I told Buono's that they need to come finish their work once my other contractor gets their job done. Their president immediately refused to wait and demanded an immediate payment otherwise he will take legal action and contact my co op management and other contractors to give me bad reputation. Long story short, he waited and fixed a few spots(with $5 wood putty) and took out the materials and garbage but I was so sick and tired of dealing with this company at this point that I wouldn't care about the work. Their crew were rude. There was no one overseeing the work for the whole time. They are way overpriced compare to other flooring companies and the final work result was beyond disappointing and terrible. On top of everything their management wouldn't hesitate to threat a client even when it's clearly their fault. How could this company stay in business or even get good reviews? read more

My floors look amazing! Just a few days ago they were old and damaged. Now they look brand new! The surface is smooth to the touch. The dark walnut stain is rich.The satin finish has just the right amount of sheen where the sunlights hits the floor. The process was very easy. My apartment is very small but I wasn't treated like a small job. I was able to speak to the owner, Lou personally. I explained the problems with the floor and sent him pictures. He gave me his assessment and walked me through the proposal. He didn't attempt to up-sell me on anything. I got a quote within a day or so and booked the job for the following week. They showed up exactly when they said they would. We sampled three stains. I chose one and they got down to business. It took exactly as long as they said it would. I cannot say enough amazing things about Lou and the team. Refinishing our floors was the our first major project in our first apartment we own, and Lou was so helpful in helping us determine how to achieve the look we want. There is a chian between us and Buono that is over 50 messages long to give you an idea of how much time and attention that took. They also tested several finishes to help us decide on the look before proceeding with the project, and helped us move some large pieces of furniture out of the way. Finally, they managed the COI and building process well. The team was on time, professional, and did great work. And most importantly, the floors look incredible! We went with a light finish, almost a grey, that is more of a natural look without the shine of more traditional finishes, and they look incredible and modern. Pricing was in-line with the more reasonable quotes we got from other places. I cannot recommend them enough! I've worked with Buono's Flooring for two different apartments and they do great work. The first job was replacing an old wood floor that had sustained some damage due to a flood from an apartment above mine plus had some gaps that would've required a good amount of wood filler. The floor came out so beautifully. The second job was a refinishing of a wood floor along with a new stain. The quality of this was great, and while I had to have them come back for one extra coat, I was very happy with the work and the communication on both projects. The damage was a result of a flood so there was some buckling, because the water was not cleaned up until 7 hours later! The floors came out gorgeous.
