Love Kenny's haircuts and color! Finally a haircut specifically for me not just a copier....Friendly environment and music too!

Seeking perfection. I stopped in a couple of weeks ago for a last-minute business trip. Kenny squeezed me in. I was very satisfied with the color and liked the cut, but when I returned from my trip, I found a text message from Bridget and Kenny requesting that I come back in because Kenny was simply not satisfied with the cut. They accommodated my crazy work schedule again and would NOT accept a penny because Kenny felt like he did not get the results he was seeking the first time around. CAN YOU BELIEVE THE INTEGRITY?!? Clark has cut my hair three or four times this year and he is an excellent hair stylist: talented, experienced, creative, and nice. I have found that there are not that many great choices for men who want more than a buzzcut yet something that isn't going to grow in too fast. Clark has been especially great at getting my hair back in top-top shape again after a few unfortunate visits to someone who went a little crazy with the clippers! I'm 52 and I wanted to get the gray out of my hair and was very apprehensive... Having seen some "really bad dye jobs" I didn't wanna come out of it looking like Wayne Newton. I did my research, checked the reviews and found New York hair and color salon. Ken and his assistant Brittany are amazing! Not only is there work exceptional they're terrific people and it's like hanging out with a couple of friends. As far as the hair color goes... I expressed my concern about not wanting my hair to look unnatural for my age. They formulated a color scheme that looks completely appropriate. When you have your own mother tell you how natural it looks I don't think you can get a much better compliment than that. I just had a THE BEST hair consultation for color (and cut) in my entire 54 years. Kenny discussed all aspects of my hair, current condition, previous treatments, what products to use (and he actually demonstrated them on me). We then discussed all options going forward. He took the time to discuss all of my concerns, and I am grateful. It was such a different exerience that the "15 minute consult." I can tell that he is a perfectionist. I will be booking an appointment. I have to say also, that Brittany is the best!!! She took my original call, and was listening the entire time. My daughter and I had our first appointment with Kenny and Brittany yesterday. We are both very happy with the final results. My daughter had her curly hair cut exactly as she requested, and I too had a hair cut and color. I have been growing out my gray hair for a year. Kenny and Brittany , working together, took the necessary time, skill and patience to get my mixed color hair to all gray. It was a process, but well worth it. Kenny and Brittany do my color, and I'm very happy with the entire experience. Kenny is knowledgeable and has a great grasp of the chemistry of hair color. He is a perfectionist and works hard to give his clients their best look. Unlike some artists, Kenny is also honest. If you bring in a photo of the cut/color for which you are hoping, he may suggest something different rather than give you the cut and color for which you wished but won't look good on you. As a 60+ year client of hair salons, I have seen so many people come in who really want the model's cheek bones (and don't get that a haircut must work on their face not the model's). This, in my opinion, is the primary reason that people leave stylists unhappy; they got the cut and color for which they asked, but not the honest opinion regarding the best look for their face and lifestyle. I have never left Kenny's salon feeling less than refreshed and happy with his work. This is an easygoing salon with a bit of an edgy culture. The atmosphere is friendly and pleasant. It is anything but pretentious, but clients get the respect that they are due. If you are looking for posh and pretentious this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a fun experience after which you leave feeling better than when you arrived, this salon will deliver. read more

It's been years, literally, since I've been happy with my hair. My genetics gifted me the odd combination of thin, curly hair with no body that no one knew how to cut. Until NY Hair & Colour. They took the time to not only understand where my hair is today, but where I'd like it to be down the road. They took into consideration my morning routine and how muhc maintence and fussing I was/was not willing to do. My hair is still fantastic 4 weeks later -- that NEVER happens. They are not only gifted in their craft, but also saavy in their business ettiquette -- absolutely know how to retain customers. All this, and Seinfeld playing in the tv in the salon? Kenny is amazing--a magician with hair! He is the first hairdresser I have ever had who is able to cut short hair without destroying it or cutting it too short! His cuts are so flattering--a work of art! He takes so much time with coloring to correct mistakes other hairdressers (or we ourselves!) have made in coloring our hair! He recognizes each person's unique needs and is able to address them in a way that brings out the best in that person! What a find! I've never met someone so unprofessional. Kenny puts down other customers in front of you, treats assistant like doody but she puts up with it, takes cash or checks made out to cash (no longer takes cards). Messed up my hair, tried fixing it (which took 3 hours), then proceeds to tell me in so many words that I'm costing him money, I'm too picky, and that it will cost me 300 dollars next time I come in. It's clear there are some financial difficulties going on there. He moves your appointment constantly because he's never runs on schedule. One should feel totally honored to have their hair done by him. GMAFB. He could not produce results that I've gotten at other salons. read more

I had my hair colored, cut and then a Keratin treatment last Saturday. My hair is wavy and frizzy so I needed help! Kenny and Brittany saved the day. I waited until today to wash it and it's incredible how great it came out! It's smooth and shiny and took half the time to blow dry. No frizz, no waves. I decided to try it out and I came out of the place extremely satisfied with my haircut even though I didn't really know how to eloquently express what I wanted from the haircut when I first sat down in the chair. I too am new to this town. Just like Chelsea I called in as well. The only difference is, I actually made an appointment and gave Kenny a try. My hair is "my crowning glory", and I am willing to spend money for the right service. Then much to my pleasant surprise, the service cost less than I expected. Kenny took his time to blow dry my hair, and didn't let me leave the salon unless I was fully satisfied. He corrected my color and gave my hair a revived shine. I don't think it's fair to review a service or establishment without giving it a try first. read more

As a guy with curly hair, I'm usually pretty hesitant about getting a haircut unless it's somewhere I've been several times and feel confident about. Being new to the Poughkeepsie area, I was hesitant at first about NY Hair & Colour, but Kenny proved this feeling wrong. with friendly demeanor, he listened well to what I wanted and responded in accordance with what was possible with my hair.
