Showcasing Waldherr's own graceful artwork for both children and adults, the show had the nice twist of displaying the kids' pieces at the little ones' eye level. The gallery also features the work of other artists as well, but does double-duty as the studio for Waldherr, who has an upcoming show at the end of October featuring her original art for her latest book, Doomed Queens. I'm looking forward to both the gallery show as well as the book! A cool, comfortable, cozy space for original art and a surprisingly big bathroom to boot! What's not to love?

Literally, no one added it yet. But yuh boy Giovanni always has his ear to the streets. Salon Kingston has actually been open for 2.5 years so far. It use to be a laundry center that got renovated right before covid. Which means they started off having music and performances on the sidewalk. It built up a really nice local community since then. They have a lot of Afro/Latinx performers who just rock the house. Solid group with a lot of experience and soul. The night I went was the first time they did a DJ only event. Tres Dos who is known throughout the city was there laying it down. The interior is clean and relaxing. Definitely an intimate space good for meeting your neighbors. There is a little 'bar' and library area with some good books actually. Then the band's space on the other half. Different artists also display work in the middle zone, there was some nice photography when I visited, and a permanent installation of 2 very interesting mini 3D worlds Check their IG for performances and times. I think they are only open on Thurs actually, but could be wrong. Glad to finally come here after years. Big congrats to the team for holding this type of community space for everyone

Beware undergraduates bearing plays!…read more Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts is part of Brooklyn College, and is located at the edge of its campus. Over the summer and sometimes even throughout school year, the venue hosts music and dance performances, some of which are very good. It also hosts high school graduations and, during the course of Brooklyn College's school year, showcases undergraduate and graduate theater department productions. Everything but the undergraduate productions takes place in the large and beautiful Gershwin Theater. It's built like a typical music theater, with three levels of seating and a big stage along the lines of Carnegie Hall. Acoustics of the place aren't as great as Carnegie Hall, but are very good nonetheless, and the prices are very comfortable. The entertainment is usually very good and unusual, with lots of ethnic selections and experimental productions. Graduate student productions are often surprisingly good, though you never know what you're going to get with those. The other part of the Center is called the New Workshop, and is used by theater department undergrads. I'm not even sure if a non-Brooklyn College student can get tickets to those - if not, then that's a blessing, because most undergrad productions are understandably uneven, with everyone from actors to lighting crew still learning the ropes.

Although it looks like a regular school building, the performances make up for what it lacks in looks. But I must add that whoever was in control of the lighting on saturday did a magnificent job. The auditorium was huge and seated atleast 300 people. The ushers were very nice and helpful. But they did look at me crazy when I asked if they had a bar. The woman said I hope you can enjoy the show without one...

Medicate n Paint has had two events so far that I've attended, December and January. The December…read moreevent got off to a rocky start as it was originally supposed to be in Manhattan but a few days before the event an email was sent saying that due to the venue cancelling last minute that the event would now be held in Brooklyn. Everyone was given the option to get their money back if the new location was no longer convenient. So the event is similar to a sip and paint event where you are painting guided by an artist. There are drinks and food. The one difference from the usual paint and sips and that it's a paint, sip and smoke event. The December event got off to a late start but in the end it was pretty fun. Everyone was really nice. The January event was more organized and seemed to go of a smoother. I would recommend.

I have used the space on 8th Ave for 4 years to hold classes and this is our first time using this…read morespace. I like Oxford Street better for the pricing and the overall feel of the space but it's confusing to get into the building if someone doesn't see you come in and buzz you in right away. I was fine but I had a few students get confused and actually leave. Teenagers aren't always socially confident enough to ask for help if they can't figure something out. The other space is pretty straightforward you get off of the elevator and it's right there. Also the other space has a small waiting area, at Oxford you have to wait outside which isn't conducive to cold weather. I would be more inclined to use this space in the Spring semester. They also have a rear courtyard behind one of the studios that could be fun in Spring.

I've played a dozen shows and seen a dozen more at the stage at King Killer and I have a blast EVERY SINGLE TIME! It is one of the funnest places to play at in the city. To Greg who leaves one star: Come on dude. Shows get cancelled, that's life. I've never had a show cancelled at KK. Actually, KK offered to host a show of mine when another venue cancelled last minute and it saved us. How sweet is that? Also, 2 weeks seems like a pretty fair amount of time to cancel and I'm sure they weren't dicks about it because they seem like pretty nice guys. If you're a musician looking for a rehearsal space definitely look into this place. It's a bright and airy space with a good sound system located in a historic neighborhood church. I'd probably visit again now that I know they produce a lot of community events there!

This is a temporary exhibit that is currently set to run until December 30th. Through the website…read moreyou can buy tickets online, but there is an additional $5 processing fee. We bought our tickets at the door, saved the fee and was able to walk right in. There are 3 levels in the space, with a performance space all the way in the basement with current bands performing/rehearsing: Main level is where you pay to enter and given a temporary wristband. Coat check is available, and also headphones that you can borrow. I didn't like that you had to leave your driver license as "collateral" to return the headphones. Identity theft much?! Literally and figuratively, the potential is there so bring your own headphones. You can jack in at various spots (since no wireless, or portable players as most museums have nowadays) - a bit of throwback to the analog era I suppose. Upstairs has listening stations and albums. It is a loft that can be seen from the main level. Downstairs has more exhibitions with a couple more videos playing. One is pornographic so you need to enter through a door that seems to be locked, but isn't. Faulty door? I dunno. Basement has a cool performance space with seating around the edges. The band performed all the way to one side. Since there are large columns the view can be blocked. Too bad they can't figure a way to set the bands up directly in the middle and let the crowds surround them. The exhibit focuses on the Velvet Underground and their influence. There is a history of all the key members of the band (Lou Reed, John Cale, etc), Andy Warhol, and all other people involved in that scene. It also tries to convey the sense of what was going on in America and NYC at that time. All and all I thought it was done well. You can spend many hours reading, listening and watching in the free form space. The structure where you can lay on mats and watch projected videos was a surprisingly relaxing, communal experience - perhaps my favorite part.

I am a huge fan of the velvet underground and I thought the exhibit was really fascinating! It's way bigger than I expected for a temporary set-up. There were tons of great visuals and interesting factual material. I ended up spending more time there than my attention span usually allows. The collage downstairs is groovy. Highly recommended if your into rock and roll.
