I would strongly warn anyone against going to NYU for your vision needs. I went in to get my prescription checked. It takes months to get an appointment. They gave me a glasses prescription but told me I would benefit from hard lenses with a special fitting. When I went to that appointment, which took weeks, I found out its a super involved process. I let them know I would want and need normal lenses as well. They said Dr. Mandel would be able to send me a prescription based on my exam, which, of course made sense. Since that appointment, I am waiting on some call to take payment for the hard lenses. Meanwhile Dr. Mandel's office referred me back to the office that sent me to her for soft ones. They are trying to tell me they'd need another appointment/fitting, which, of course, takes months. I have been calling to resolve this. It's a maze of answering machines and recordings with no resolution. I went in to get contacts and glasses. Ended up getting pushed a more expensive and intensive option. No one answers the phone or resolves basic issues, and weeks later I have no lenses and am on the verge of just going elsewhere. Worst vision experience I have ever had. Do not go. read more

DO NOT GO HERE !! They care more about billing and scamming people out of money than your vision! Saw a Dr who honestly seemed great but said you have a cornea issue and need cross linking but he doesn't do those referred me to another Dr in the practice. Billed 50 dollars Out of pocket. See new Dr coupe weeks later do same tests says same thing and says they don't do cross linking OHHH AND THIS DR DOESNT TAKE MY VISION INSURANCE! Now I get billed again for the same tests same exact diagnosis and same exact need but they now bill my health insurance and I owe almost 600 out of pocket more! I EVEN ASKED BEFORE THE TESTING WHY THEY HAVE NY HEALTH INSURANCE ON FILE AND REFUSED THE DOUBLE TESTING BUT THEY INSISTED THEY WOULDN'T be billing me twice. Overall positive experience. I like my doctor here and I trust the NYU system overall. Staff are friendly. My biggest gripe is that you can't really reach anyone directly. Even the number they give you gets answered by a main operator who has to pass your message along. Also, bureaucratic billing practices. I had a billing issue (it got resolved) but I had to go through many layers, speak to different people (who knew NYU had so many billing offices?). read more

Wired things happened. At 2nd floor NYU cafe charged a - capchino for a Regular milk 50c?? After she asked us "what kind of milk?" ..... ( what's this Large size milk meaning?!) extra cup for 20c without notifying. I'm glad I asked for a receipt this time. *see my photo... the cashier should really ask what will be charged or not. Go anywhere else if you can! This facility has endless waits for the doctors. I come here because I need a specific type of eye exams linked to my NYU MyChart so that my other specialists can view them if needed. But both times I have been here, a year apart, different drs, I have been so frustrated. They take you in and the technician does a little fussing, but then you sit in the exam room and wait... and wait... and wait. Literally been in the exam room with no contact or info for an hour. Flagged someone down and he just said to keep waiting. No bothering to apologize for the wait etc. Why don't they hire more doctors, organize them better, or make fewer patient appointments? Very poorly managed and it's not like they are taking great care anyway -- it's all cursory and standard when you finally do see someone. read more

I booked an appointment with Dr Yoshi Moda for 3:30. I got there 2:30. Had my eyes dilated that caused blurred vision for a few hours. I finally saw him at 5:15 pm. He did not apologize for his tardiness. He was arrogant as ever. It's also hard to find this dump of an eye office. Do not visit this office ever. The ha handicap entrance was not marked at the street level where the main door is. It was very hard to find and far away. Once inside there was an unmarked labyrinth to follow to find an accessible elevator to the main floor, even on the main floor the check-in desk was not easy to find the period the NYU I am going office in Midtown did not suggest an appointment would be necessary, but the desk at the urgent care told me that this was the exception and that I would have to wait a while, which I did. (About45 min). The appointment was fine, and thepeactioner was both kind and competent. I received my diagnosis the next day, but began treatment immediately for my respiratory infection. read more

Made an appointment with Dr. Elkin, then weeks later his office cancelled it, saying that he now only takes patients interested in surgery. I am an older woman who has strasbismus, which is a condition that requires an ophthalmologist with a specialty in that condition. Their office tried to pass me off to an optometrist with no specialized training in strasbismus...but said, get this: that if she prescribes glasses with prisms that don't work (after you've paid for the glasses) then maybe Dr. Elkin would see you. read more

Horrible people. They lied on the claim to my insurance saying I went there because I had itchy eyes when I was just going there for a standard eye exam. They are liar and thieves. They also refused to put my claim as preventative for an eye exam. They made me pay $238 dollars for an eye exam and I have insurance. I will not be going back to this place again. read more

My doctor (who since left the practice and moved to FL) was incredibly sharp and through. The rest of the office staff was not very skilled in friendly, through, or concerned about patients as anything more than objects. (TLDR Bedside manor could use work) Very different experience than I've had at other NYU-affiliates. Needless to say, now that my doctor has left I'm finding another practice. read more

Actually have no concern for their patients! They dont treat you as even a human being. They just want your money. How are they different from bandits?!! Such a waste of nice facility. The receptionist was extremely unprofessional. First, i called a couple mins before i arrive to tell them that i be late for a fee mins, but they never picked up the phone. Then when i arrive, one receptionist was on phone with her friend and the other one was just seating there. So when I started the check in, i asked specially if my eye exam will be covered by insurance, and i got an answer yes. However, when i come out, i was asked to pay the bill for eye glasses fitting and contact fitting. For glasses fitting i mistakenly signed the form but I never agreed or was informed of the contact fitting fee. When i confronted this with the receptionist and KINDLY asked for more info, she literally acted indifferently and refused to even communicate by shifting her full attention to her computer screen. All I wanted to do was to understand clearly what my insurance covers and dont. I will be more than happy to pay the 100 something dollars if i was given a very clear explanation and paperwork shown all the details. But no, i was given zero information. Going back to the actual exam, I couldnt believe the degree of carelessness they have. The assistant led me in, and he did not give me any explanation or information on what is going on. All he did was giving commands. Also, when he tested my eyeball pressure, there is a electric shock coming straight into my eyes. He did it without saying anything and I jumped out of human instinct. When I asked what is it. He did not even care and continued doing the electric shock. I have never experience any startling experience in an ophthalmologist office until that day. Besides all of this, I am generally happy with the doctor that i saw. Although she did not have my consent to do an contact fitting on me, she did an excellent job on the examination. What triggered me was when i came out, i was told that i have to pay the contact fitting which i have no idea i have to pay for. In fact, i didnt even know thats separate from the general eye exam. So i asked if i can still get my prescription for eye glasses by paying the portion for eye glasses fitting, the answer was no. I can get my test result unless I pay in full, including the part that i was scammed into paying. I think this is not unlawful, but this definitely break the code of practicing in the healthcare field. How could you hold back the health information that is readily available to patient just because the patient didnt want to pay for the unexplained charges? After a couple more questions unanswered, i realized the receptionist was not even willing to talk after my repeated questions in a VERY nice way. I figured this facility is not worth of getting a 100 dollars, not even a penny from me. And yes, you can just hold my prescription forever but you will never get my money and our RESPECT. Thank you for showing your true color, and I hope the little business that you guy run can earn all of u a Ferrari. DEFINITELY TREAT ALL YOUR PATIENTS LIKE ANIMALS and im sure you will do great in the field! Stay away! They have no consideration for your time. I waited close to an hour and a half to see the doctor.

If you value your time, diginity, privacy, and eyes, don't use Langone Ophthalmology. I was kept waiting 40 minutes - no explanation or apology. The doctor was unsmiling and unfriendly and uncommunicative, as was the person who administered the tests I had to take. I developed a severe allergic reaction to the medication she prescribed, but she didn't answer messages or get back to me on the phone. I finally went to another doctor at another hospital (5 stars to them!), The office staff keep their phones on SPEAKERPHONE and talk to and about patients and their insurance with their door open, so everyone can here private information. I was debating whether to compose a review, since I have not really gotten an appointment. You see, I was referred to Dr. Schuman as one of the top specialists in a specific ophthalmological issue. I had two appointments, which he both canceled, no reason given. I was convinced to make an appointment with Dr Haberman. She canceled. What does one make of this? Is it 'personal or just business'? In either event, judging by the disappointment expressed by other people here, I am spared the indignity and pain. Thank you reviewers. And oh. I went to see Dr Belinsky, one of the surgeons under the practice to correct the droopy eyelid issue I had developed after brain surgery. The droopy eyelid issue was affecting my eyesight. Now almost 3 weeks after the surgery I cannot see clearly out of my left eye and have several creases in my eyelids now - I have no idea how to describe them except it takes a lot of makeup to camouflage what she did. I am so angry and I have asked for her malpractice attorney. I cannot go through additional surgeries because she wasn't concentrating, she showed up almost 3 hours late for the surgery time. The babies come first. Based on the job she did on me, God forbid she operates on defenseless children. Who knows what she does to them......... read more

While it is spotlessly clean which is a plus you often have to wait an hour or more to see the doctor-once I had to wait several hours for a 2 minute result from a test. I and others have complained to the office manager but to no avail. While it looks like they have tried to abate their issues by hiring more techs you still have long waits to see the doctors both outside in the waiting room and inside of the office and after the initial exam with the technician. I have wasted hours and lost time at work. Leave a lot of room in your schedule. Sometimes you do get seen on time but mostly it's a long, long waiting time. read more

NEVER GOING BACK. DECEPTION, REALLY HIGH COST, POOR SERVICE. My husband and I went for our usual eye check up. In my case, there was cataract surgery 10 years ago that warrants a special check up; for him, it was just an eye exam. We were routed here because our former doc (Eli Marcovici) retired and the number given to us when we called his old practice somewhat deceptively indicated he was now advising at NYS Langone. Of course we wanted to go to the place that had our records, etc. We feel this deception was perpetuated at the desk where we asked after him and spoke at length about our long relationship with him. Our remarks were met with "fond smiles" and assurances he was around, but not today, etc. THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY RECORDS OF OUR HISTORY. THEN WE GOT A HUGE BILL. In my husband's case, his prescription was the same and the bill was $675. I'm on Medicare and my bills haven't come due yet. Now, it's true they told us at the desk that my husband's usual insurance would not cover the exam and we told them to go ahead, never imagining the high cost. The fact that his same old insurance that has covered him in years past but doesn't cover him now (United Healthcare) is a problem to be looked into elsewhere. ALSO, while we were there, it took a full half-hour to get our bill. We waited and waited and waited. read more

Is there any option for no stars at all! The doctor was very sweet, receptive, and was very helpful. On the other hand, the staff and the office are very rude, and when I had to follow up with a different specialist who could help me, I almost had an anxiety attack because they were not doing their job correctly at all and almost had me paying a big one. They're supposed to help people, especially when they are new and who have no one on the east coast to guide or help them. I felt super anxious, and now just drained. Luckily enough, with another phone call with my university health, they were able to clear up what was going on ( I was confused as the person who helped me was). Anyways, I am new here and I was referred here, but now I am thinking about researching other places after my follow-up appointment. I am glad that I am not alone, but I am also sad at the same time because never in my life have I experienced so much anxiety at once from people who say they are supposed to help those in need. read more

TERRIBLE. I am a new patient and just received an ENORMOUS bill. When I spoke to my insurance I found out they coded the services wrong. Should be a simple fix, right? Well, you CANNOT speak to anyone in Customer Service. I have called THREE times in a week, and there is no one there, instead someone TAKES A MESSAGE so someone can call you back. 1) A WEEK has passed, and no one has called me back 2) How does this system even make sense? I am finding time during my workday to call you over an issue you caused and you are calling me back when its convenient to you and likely at a time when I cannot take a call? I was searching for a new Ophthalmologist and found this office. I called and told them I have a lump on my eyelid that I wanted to get checked out. I made the mistake of saying that my vision seems to be effected and that there are more floaters than there used to be so the scheduler insisted I was trying to schedule the wrong person. She put me on the calendar for a Retina Specialist which I didn't realize until after I had my eyes dilated and an image taken which I had told them wasn't needed since my eyes had been checked the week before for a regular visit and this was really about the lump. Doctor finally sees me and says that I need to see another doctor because he only looks at retinas so sorry in a cavalier way that showed no empathy regarding my time wasted nor the huge bill I am sure is coming my way due to their mistake. Front desk office staff said oh sorry.....I guess that is what happens if you call the call center to schedule your appointment. Wow. Horrible experience. read more
