I love makeup but, sometimes I like not spending an arm and leg for a new on-trend lipstick/eye shadow. I stop by here once a month to update my makeup bag or to check out sales. The customer service can be hit or miss. Sometimes, The customer service reps can go above and beyond and other times they can flat out ignore you and be rude. Braved NYC traffic and ran in at T minus 4 hrs 30 min til my daughter's boyfriend's prom. I went everywhere looking for a specific eyeshadow glitter color and couldn't find it. I was greeted by Jason, a beautiful man with lashes to die for, who was patient and extremely helpful. He gave me an alternative solution for what I was looking for and I am rushing home to implement the glitter solution. This store is less than 1/2 the size it used to be, which is a shame because the selection has been severely pared down. It feels a bit claustrophobic and I do miss the wall of brushes but the staff is still amazing. 5 stars for Jason but the store is so small and the selection is truncated...so 3 stars read more

I've been coming to NYX since this location opened because I am vegan and cruelty free makeup is important to me. It is such a luxury to be able to shop in the entire store, not having to look at a list of the few cruelty free makeup brands that I can buy. It feels similar to Sephora, there are testers for everything and makeup stations to try stuff on. The prices are a fraction of what I'd pay at the other company, which is a huge win for me. Thank you NYX for being cruelty free, affordable, and good quality. You have a loyal customer with me. My last shopping experience at this location is why I am writing this review. Elicia is an asset to this company. I came in with a list of makeup I needed and it usually takes me awhile trying to figure out what would be best for me. Elicia finished with a customer and immediately approached me with a kind manner. Seeing that she had pretty makeup, I asked her opinion about one of the products on my list. She walked me around the store showing me the products she thought would be best for me and gave me tips on how to make my eyes pop, my lipstick to stick, among other things. She even carried my basket for me. By the end of the transaction, I felt like I had just gone shopping with a girlfriend. And it only took about 10 minutes! The one bummer was they were out of a mascara I wanted, but Elicia made the experience so great, I look forward to going back in to buy more. In these dark times our country is going through, it means a lot when an ordinary daily transaction has a moment of connection. NYX has lost a customer, and a good sale. Background: I am a black woman, early 40s, shopping for some makeup to go with my new gig (I rarely wear the stuff, but had a good idea as to what I wanted). I came early this morning (2/19/18), just a little after the store had opened. There was one salesperson there, a young Asian woman. I was the only customer, so she asked me if I needed any help, I told her no, and that was that. I was exploring the different glosses, shadows and such, and this same sales lady was right next to me EVERYWHERE I WENT, as if she was my shadow, and even after more people had entered the store. Every other minute she was asking me if I needed help, she was offering me a basket, and pretending to organize products. At one point, I decided to put the products back and leave because I became fed up and I almost bumped into her that's how close up underneath me she was. This type of profiling is disgusting and uncalled for. If you have an issue with theft, NYX, perhaps put sensors on your products and install cameras. Having your salespeople stalk customers isn't going to curb theft. Never returning. I will take my money elsewhere. read more

As an admitted Sephora addict, I was intrigued when my friends and "friends" on Instagram started talking about NYX. At first, it seemed too good to be true. An affordable makeup brand that delivers on quality, longevity, and pigmentation? Well, my friends, I have seen the top of the mountain, and it is good. For just $30.00 I got a matte lip color, mascara, an eyelash primer and a tinted brow gel. These items would have cost me at least $100 at Sephora and wouldn't have necessarily performed any better. While I don't think that NYX will completely break me of my expensive makeup and skincare habit (their packaging and branding aren't nearly as pretty and sometime's a girl's gotta splurge), I'm hyped they have this well-stocked retail location in my city to get my fix when I need it. This was my first time visiting the store and I was extremely thrilled with the experience. I was unfamiliar with the brand, the quality, etc. so I asked one of the staff members for assistance. Eddie was extremely knowledgeable on cosmetics across all brands. He recommended several lip gloss shades with staying power. He patiently waited while I tested each one and gave me his feedback until we found something I was thrilled with. After I purchased the Butter Gloss in Strawberry Cheesecake for $5! (love the color, love the texture), he even gave me a sample of a BB Cream and spent time explaining the benefits of great skincare and how the BB Cream would help enhance the look of my skin. I tested the sample on the spot and the lightweight texture made my skin look flawless. I then asked if they had a waterproof liquid eyeliner and he recommended the Epik Ink ($8). When I told him I wanted to test it's staying power, he sterilized the tester for me. An hour later, I'm rubbing my eyeliner to see if it would smudge and nothing. The staying power is even better than the pricey brands I've been blowing my hard earned money on. I cannot believe I've been spending $22-$25 on Stila and Marc Jacob's waterproof eyeliner for years. There was absolutely no pressure to purchase anything and the service he provided was top-notch. He was confident I'd be back for that eyeliner and he's right - not only will I be back to purchase that eyeliner but I'll be scheduling a one-on-one lesson with him ($30 minimum purchase required but at these prices, I'm going to go home with a lot of product + knowledge on how to enhance my makeup routine). read more

This is probably my new favorite makeup store, dare I say brand or at least lipstick brand, even though I've only been here one time. Every since I mentioned my desire for an opaque yellow lipstick to a friend, who in then told me about NYX and this storefront. I was in the area to pick up my birthday gift from a nearby makeup giant, when I remembered, yellow lipstick! So I popped in and left okay 15 minutes later with four lipsticks and a complimentary highlighter/blush stick that I choose from like 5-6 options. The kicker: I only paid $35 at the most with tax and all. So far I've worn all the lipsticks except for the yellow. The vibrant purple, perfect hot pink and the not-yet-worn yellow are all cream lipsticks. They go on smooth and wear well and are super vibrant. I am so impressed with the quality and all for the low price. The fourth lipstick I bought is a deep brown, basically my summer nude and a super matte, lip stain. Let's just say, I'm in a love. The highlighter stick has also gotten a bit of wear. I love rubbing some on my cheeks when I'm otherwise bare-faced for a little color pick me up. I don't own a lot of NYX products, only NYX The Curve Liner, NYX eyeliner in deep purple and NYX Deep blue eyeliner but ended up checking out the Union Square location at the recommendation of a sales associate at Sephora. I was trying to match a discontinued deep, blue based red liquid lipstick that I love and tried all the deep reds at Sephora with no luck (I don't want a matte). Hubby reminded me that I need to match the color before I run out. I was at the point of going to Bite to order a Bespoke lipstick when I made one more swing by Sephora. The Sephora sales associate told me to try NYX in Union Square and said they'd likely have a better color match. I hopped on the subway and went to take a look. I didn't even know NYX had opened a local retail store. I was immediately offered assistance by Leticia who pulled a few reds for me. The last option was a deep red Mega Shine gloss in Plush that had no tester available. She stepped away to make a tester. It's a deeply pigmented gloss, not a lipstick, but the color match was damn near perfect. I bought 2 of them at $5 each. I put some on after my purchase and confirmed with Leticia using photo from my phone that the gloss matches the liquid lipstick. I will pair the gloss with a lip liner (Colourpop Ellarie) to give a bit more opacity. read more

You can get stuck on the train in an non-air conditioned subway cart, and your foundation can melt freely - but you are comforted in knowing there is more where that came from...lots more! Because did I say, they aren't skimpy with their product? You get every penny worth girl!) Now that that's out of the way, I wanted to discuss my experience in the store. I booked the One on One-Shadow Game appointment 7/26/17. I am not a "make up guru", I'm well versed in the basics....except when it came to eyeshadow (sis, it would look like I applied it with my feet-so I just gave up) but thanks to the AMAZING instructor I was paired with - JOSHUA, I am confident and eager to apply shadow with various effects every time I get a chance. Joshua is clearly a talented artist - but most importantly he was attentive, extremely patient, and offered great tips/tricks as the course went on. He was extremely well spoken, and would even tie the motions to something more relatable so that I would remember how to apply it FLAWLESSLY at home! (i.e. Windshield Wiper Sweeps!!!!) I didn't feel intimidated by my lack of knowledge, nor was I ever made to feel pressured when I couldn't narrow down my purchases. Kudos to Mgmt there for hiring impeccable employees. Joshua--keep shooting for the stars, your talent will take you far regardless, but your personality and spirit will take you further! In the end, while you are only required to spend $30 to cover the free course, I ended up spending $80, and I blame Josh for that because I now wanted to try all the eyeshadow hues. (No iced coffees for me next week, LOL). I definitely look forward to returning to this location! read more

This only got one star because the actual makeup itself is very good. They have VERY low stock of a lot of products and everything is very disorganized. When I asked for a specific product (espresso lip liner) the girl told me it just sold out which is false because I actually walked in the store 4 days in a row and they told me the same thing. The girls there don't want to seem to help you much, God forbid you ask them for help finding a colorI love NYX Makeup. It is affordable and very good quality but this is a FLAGSHIP store which means thats everything should be at its highest standard! The makeup is good value and a decent quality brand, but the experience shopping here leaves a plenty to be desired. Stock is almost never done correctly, so I've bought the wrong shade more than once because products are not organized correctly. Instead, you usually have to track down a sales associate who has little to no interest in helping you to get what you want. Checkout on my most recent visit was particularly tragic. I had a few questions about the promotions that were running as well as coupons I've received via email. The cashier barely answered and didn't explain further. I had to trust I got the best deal on the promotional codes but didn't feel confident or like she was trying to be helpful. Another customer asked why the store is now half the size it was before, she barely got an answer as well: "corporate reasons". Cool. Great selection of new products but not the best customer service. I was there for 10 minutes before any sales clerk talked to me even though they passed by me multiple times. This brand has revamped its product line and the staff is unaware of the prior products so they could not help me choose a suitable replacement. I've been buying NYX products for at least 10 years probably more. I have so much stuff at home I really don't need to replace all that often. Some of the products are the same as they have been for at least 5 years. I was sort of surprised that the staff wasn't willing to introduce me to new products. I was walking with my friend and saw the Nyx store and I had to go in. The store is beautiful everything was neat but, what turned me off was that my friend and I was not greeted when we walked in. As we walked around the store each and every associate didn't not say one word to us but, they took the time to share us down as we made each step. I felt uncomfortable but, I still wanted to experience and appreciate the beauty of the store. We was by the lip wall and the security guard walked up behind us and stare, that's when I asked my friend if she's feels uncomfortable at the store and she said yes. So we left without buying anything. I was very disappointed with the staff, no help from not one associate, no "hello", no "welcome, how can I help you" Nothing! Just a stares. The only reason I gave a 1 Star was because I was able to find the lipstick I've been looking for. First I was followed by like a higher up or something because everyone else was really friendly but because of that one employee it really ruined my experience. After being followed, i go to get ringed and the total says 36 and i give her 2 Twenty's (40 dollars expecting 2 dollars and change) she took out the marker and started checking if the bills were fake. Making a scene of highlight it, putting it in the light, scratching it, like really making a scene as if the bills were fake and letting everyone around the register know this when previously two customers before me were not treated this way. Cut to getting my change and only get a few cents back, somehow the registered ringed something wrong she says and stated how now the total was 39 something. I asked her why did the register ring something else tho, and she said the register is wrong and doesn't show taxes with attitude and started looking at the bag to see if I wanted to return something as if I couldn't afford it... I would expect this from Sephora, MAC even but really NYX? Racially profiling isn't a good look, and most definitely a way to loose customers in a store where already there aren't much customers in that tiny store. read more

I was looking for a couple of lip pencils and saw some interesting ones in the NYX site. Since I was in the area this past weekend, I decided to stop by and purchase them. I wasn't greeted upon entering but I didn't think anything of it until people came in a minute or so after me and they were warmly greeted. I found my way to the retractable lip pencils, searched and eventually found the shades I was looking for. Went to pay... The lady who was making a purchase at the time didn't have a lot of merch but for whatever reason, it was taking a while. Meh, okay. Then it was my turn. I purchased two lip pencils. The cashier asked me if I wanted to leave my email address. I politely said, no. She didn't seem to like that answer, lol. I was paying with cash and just wanted to pay and go on about my day. But when stores ask for email addresses and/or phone numbers, more often than not (well, heck, even when you sign up online sometimes), some of them will sell your info to 3rd party companies and the next thing you know, you're getting spam calls and emails. Don't take my word for it, Google! Back to my transaction, the cashier, I can best describe as wearing toooooo much makeup, ghastly and grey...which isn't a good look on brown skin. She had a rectangle shaped head and Morticia Addams-like weave and moved...so...slow. Like, sloth slow. She was so slow, she Jedi mind-tricked me and probably wasn't even trying! While she was counting my change (very...intentionally...slowly), I lost focus and started thinking of what else I had to do that afternoon. When she gave me my change, I stood there for a couple of seconds feeling like the transaction wasn't quite finished and she stood and didn't acknowledge me so my mind-tricked brain said, "well, you have your change, we can finally leave now." I turn to leave and then realize that I don't have my lip pencils. When I turned back toward her, she held the pencils up. I don't know why she couldn't give me my pencils with my change... Anywho, know what? I can't even blame her. *I* should've been on the ball. I should've stayed alert instead of letting myself be lulled damn near to a slumber by her slowwww, hypnotic movements. From now on, when I want NYX, I'll go to a Duane Reade. But this Union Square NYX...nope, it's not for me. read more

Very happy with the products I got! There was a sale on Nyx Lingerie liquid lipsticks (2 for $10) and so I bought two new lip colours. They are really nice and stays on longer than other products I've used so I'm very satisfied about that. The only thing that makes it less than five stars is that they are a bit drying on the lips but that's nothing a bit of lip balm won't fix! read more

While I like the makeup brand, this store is pretty unappealing. They cut the applicators off all the makeup which I get is more sanitary, but it just looks like a dog chewed up the products! Things are organized weirdly and a lot is out of stock. You are better off buying NYX products at a different store like Ricky's. read more

I love the brand. The products are to DIEEEEEE for! But it doesn't make my travel from Westchester Country worth the trip when you deal with bad customer service. I am a MUA and I shop at a lot of Make Up store which most don't have real date on there return policy... Well NYX does, I don't know that. With the fact that I buy to many products, I always keep the receipts but never really read them unless I have to make a return... which I never do. But this one time I had to return some things that my boss already had and didn't really want (she not a fan of NYX) so she told me I can exchange for personal needs. I think I may have picked up these items around Dec 10 or 12 and I came back to return Jan 14..... ( I live far and am never really in NYC like that any more) I picked my items and was help by an young women named Sharea who was really rude about the return as if the money was coming out of HER pocket! It's too many makeup store in that area that sells NYX for the employees to be rude to ppl. But it's like after me she super nice to the little caucasian girl behind me..... really? The security makes you feel awkward. I went in today and the security guard literally was everywhere I turned staring at me and the place is so small everyone noticed.
