I'll begin by saying I haven't had a cut from a barber since 2007, as I have been maintaining my grooming since then. I began cutting my own hair in the mid 90's. I'm no pro by any stretch, but I'm much better than decent. With that said, I'm preparing to get married and want my hair to be perfect. So I searched for shops near Spring Valley and found Fred' shop. I walked in on a whim on Thursday morning, and there was only 1 person ahead of me. The shop, the service, the vibe, the conversation... it all felt nostalgic! I instantly remembered how much MORE you get from a barbershop than simply a haircut. Fred and I discussed a wide range of topics, AND I got the cut I needed. This is definitely the type of shop and service you'd expect from a classic barbershop. Great barbers are hard to find. Great ones are equal parts entertainer, therapist, artist and tradesman--Fred definitely belongs in that category. I've come here on two separate weekends--the first time to get my two year old son's first haircut. My kid screamed for the entire time but Fred was patient and still managed to give him a great looking cut. As a white dude, I'll admit I was a little intimidated the first time I came in the shop--the majority of the barbers' clientele is definitely black/hispanic but DON'T let that dissuade you: Fred can hook up a nice taper and trim. He took the time to listen to exactly what I wanted and then did a phenomenal job re-shaping and tightening up my hair. Highest recommendation! read more

As a female I hate to sit in a barbershop full of raunchy men talking about females in a manner I find offensive ESPECIALLY when there are children present. At almost every other barbershop I feel like my time was disrespected while barbers talked and chatted and even ate prolonging the time it takes... I don't feel like that here. When I arrived Fred (owner) was on his way to lunch, but was super cool and opened back up just to give me a cut, his level of customer service is as good as it gets. Came here when they first opened up here in Casa de Oro. My barber was very friendly and made me feel comfortable. He joked with me and his personality really came out during the cut. Walked in on a Friday morning without an appointment. Said hello. No answer. One guy in a chair getting a cut from the lone barber. A guy walked out from the back out the front door, at least he acknowledged me. Customer finished, walks out, I look up and barber is one his phone. I give him a few and tell him I am ready. He said he has an appointment, I said I don't take long. He insists on waiting for appointment. Never mentioned if he could slide me in after. I walk out. I can't give zero stars, otherwise I would. Came in recently for a fade and the homie Fred hooked it up. I just recently started growing my hair out and needed a cut badly. Big Fred knew exactly what to do, it's as if he was letting me know what I wanted. Well I hadn't been in a barber shop in about 25 years since I used to shave my head then had in in a close buzz. My hair is just getting to the point where I can start to comb it over but he gave me a shadow fade with side burn line-up. Well, I felt FTD. And all for only $15. Maybe a bit much, maybe not.
