As he did not actually perform work this review is only for the customer service side. He called me back a couple hours after I left a message and sounded very nice and wanted to be helpful. However, he then explained that he "Doesn't work on AC systems that have any parts in the attic or on the roof". So, you know, where 80% of AC systems are. I pointed out that most air handlers are in the attic of homes and he said, "yeah, I just don't do them". While I know that he is free to restrict where he works but nowhere does it say he doesn't work work on HVAC that is located in an attic. Rob Saini is fantastic. I see why Saini AC is so highly rated here, definitely deserves the 5 stars. He has integrity, is smart, and very personable. He keeps busy during the summer but managed to get me in the next day to fix our broken AC, all while encouraging me to not feel bad if I find someone else who can come in sooner. He gave me great maintenance tips and even encouraged me to do a simple repair myself to save me a service call. I have been wanting to become more handy, but I don't want the responsibility for this particular project. He scoped the work much more reasonably than another company from which we'd initially gotten a quote. Mr. Saini is an upstanding guy and I look forward to continuing to work with him. NO WORK RECEIVED, ONLY COMMENTING ON CUSTOMER SERVICE. Called on a Monday morning in July and spoke to a receptionist about my non-functioning air conditioning unit. She took my information and assured me that a technician would call me back on the same day. Less than two minutes later, I got a call from the technician. He explained that they were booked for three weeks (!) and also that he didn't service homes in my area (Logan Circle in DC), but he spent 10 minutes on the phone with me talking about my issue and recommending possible fixes and what I should say to other companies when I call them. If the technician's customer service and knowledge on the phone is indicative of the type of service they would provide if they actually serviced my unit, then this is a five-star company. read more

The Saini brothers have helped us through several air conditioning-related issues in the past few years -- I wholeheartedly recommend them for several reasons. 1. Integrity -- They're always trying to find the most cost-effective solution. And if they can walk you through a solution by phone, they'll do that and save you the cost of a visit. 2. Communication -- They are prompt and responsive. Last night, they were exchanging texts with me at close to 9pm about a problem we were having. They're also very pleasant and easy to deal with. 3. Skill -- They know what they're doing, including how to deal with all the weirdness of old, cramped rowhouses. John Saini was able come by my house the next day after I contacted him to look at my broken heater. When he got there- the thing started working again without issue. Fortunately, he only charged me the minimum price to come out and explained how heaters/HVAC systems worked thoroughly. The business was established by their father and it is now run by John and his brother so you will always get top-quality service. *Update- a few weeks after his initial visit- my heater stopped working again. This time, I sent him a video clip of my heater and he was able to give me advice on how to fix it over the phone! It was incredible how responsive and incredibly kind Mr. Saini. A/C compressor (the outside unit) started making ridiculous amounts of noise and just would not blow any cold air into the house. I contacted Saini Air Conditioning and since it was before 8 am got their answering/call service. Girl was very polite/profession and took my information and I received a callback within an hour. Mr Saini had me explain the situation over the phone and immediately informed me to turn off my system due to what I described. Unfortunately, he also told me that it would be about two days before he would be able to check out my system due to the high volume of calls. I really didn't expect that but I found it acceptable due to the fact it is a small business and I had previously read all the positive reviews about his work. I get a call two days later and Mr Saini arrives promptly within the 30 minute window previously set and immediately goes to work on my outside compressor. After a few minutes, (really seemed like seconds) he has the system working and blowing cool air. He spends a few more minutes checking / tightening some additional connections and determines that the capacitor was loose and there should not be an issue. He recommends that I watch if for a few days and if it fails again he would be happy to come back out and replace it. I found Mr. Saini to be highly knowledgeable but still able to relate to me in laymen terms that I could understand. He displayed honesty and integrity and was very personable. I felt comfortable with him in my home and around my family. On an informal note, he just appears to be a great guy! A rather odd exchange with the Saini Air Conditioning agent. After looking at all the five star reviews, I called to have an estimate done on having our thermostat moved (one of those situations where the previous owner thought himself a handyman and had decided to move the thermostat from its initial location on the wall, to mounting it on the side of some awkward homemade shelving). Needless to say, I was surprised when I spoke with one of the agents and he said "oh, you're in the NE, I thought you were one of our SW customers." A strange comment, considering they're exactly two miles away, not operating in Winchester or Baltimore. The guy then asked me about my having a boiler or central air, and then said they "don't work with boilers right now." I then asked him if just moving the thermostat would affect anything to do with the boiler. "Well, no." I'm not going to give them one star to throw off people who look at the overall review for this place, as I'm sure they do good work if they actually deign to have you as a customer. That said, they must be pretty popular if they don't need my business that much. read more

They came to our house, explained exactly what was going wrong (we needed a plumber to reroute some condensation into the sewer system), recommended some plumbing professionals, and didn't charge me. Mr. Saini is an angel! I arrived home to a hot house and a non-functioning AC and left a message with the receptionist. The appointments were running pretty far behind so Mr. Saini called me back and spent about 30 minutes on the phone trouble shooting different options and was patient enough to wait on the line while I tried out each of his suggestions. In the end we discovered that an emergency shut of switch had been triggered because of a blockage in the drain from the condensation pan, he saved me 100s of dollars!!! Honestly, I will coming back to these guys for any HVAC needs. They have been extremely prompt, responsive, kind, fairly price and -- most importantly -- have fixed the problem, every time. I ended up fixing the problem myself guided through the phone by Saini !!! Saini called me back the same day after I left the information to a lady. My air conditioning problem is small--- blocked drain pipe. He listed the possible causes and very patiently taught me through every steps! Also he let me know when he will be available for the next appointment if the problem didn't get solved this time. Though I didn't use their service this time, I feel I need to write this review. I called this morning because the air condition in my rental unit in DC was blowing warm air. I called Mr. Saini around 11 this morning and he came out around 4:30 this afternoon. My HVAC unit stopped flowing cool air. This was around the end of August, so as you can imagine, it was unbearable in the house. I called the company who initially installed the unit and left several voicemails, they never even bothered responding (such a shame as I have had great interactions with them in the past). I called Mr. Saini, whose company is one of the few that even services my area of DC, and he came out the next day. After reviewing the issue and realizing that it can't be fixed without this specific part, he waived the initial fee and told me that he'll charge me once the job is complete (I know who does that?). He called Carrier on my behalf to have get the part covered under warranty, and while we waited for the warranty to come through, he found an old used part and installed that so we could have AC. He came to my house a total of 3 times and only charged for essentially one trip worth of labor. I can't praise this man and his company enough. read more

I had such a great experience with Mr. Saini. I needed someone to inspect the units in my townhome prior to tenants moving in, and Mr. Saini was able to do it on an extremely short notice. I left a message with his business line, and a few hours later he called me from his personal phone to schedule the service. He inspected everything thoroughly, and most importantly for me, explained everything he was doing and answered any questions I had. He didn't try to push any repairs, but informed me of a part which has a lifespan that is nearing its end and simply to preemptively order a replacement to have on hand, ready to replace, if and when the original fails. I did not have an opportunity for Saini Air Conditioning to come service my home. I called on 8/10/2017 and received a call back within the next 24 hours, letting me know his rates for an inspection, replacement of refrigerant, and his availability over the next few days. He said he would be able to make it out between 8/11/17 - 8/17/17 noting that he would call me one day in advance. I thought that was fine, and requested that he still come out- no issue with him coming anywhere in that timeframe. He mentioned that he would call one day in advance, to make sure I could have somebody home. Did not receive a call during this time period. Had not reached out to another HVAC servicer assuming that Saini would actually follow through with what he said he would. It's 8/23/17. I called 8/22/17 mentioning that I still needed service (now desperately) and I have not heard a peep, despite the CS rep saying that I would get a call back ASAP. I get it if times are busy and you cannot get around to every job - but i am disappointment that Saini made a commitment that he could not follow up with - and did not even call me to let me know that he would not be able to make it. Make sure you have this guy, and somebody else as a back up as follow through is, in my case, flakey at best. read more

Well my ac unit went out again, and again Mr. Saini walked me through some steps, but this time it wasn't working. When I tried to manually turn the fan it made a grinding noise. So, I scheduled an appointment for Mr. Saini to come out and look at the unit. Turns out the motor was bad and had to be replaced. He came back the next day and replaced the motor. Everything is working perfectly and has been for the past two weeks. He was a pleasure to work with, and I highly recommend him. read more

After a very frustrating experience with Jimmy Gusky's outfit, we were able to sneak into Rob's schedule during a bad heatwave, and he got us a temporary fix that the other guys said wouldn't work. I live in the same condo community as Saini AC and I have used them twice now. Rob and his brother are excellent! They are very polite, very professional, knowledgeable and honest folks. They are Capitol Park IV's preferred AC company and for good reason because they know everything there is to know about our AC chillers and furnaces which is rather unique with the cold water pipes etc that other companies may not. The first time I used them, they fixed the issue really quickly and didn't even charge me. The second time, Rob explained to me what exactly the issue was and even taught me how to fix it myself! These are trade secrets that he shared so that I don't have to spend more money down the road if the same issue occurred. I was having an issue with my HVAC and needed someone to diagnose the problem. After looking at reviews on Yelp, I called Mr. Saini, and received a call back from him about 10 minutes later. It was clear that he was a busy guy and in high demand as he kept getting texts from clients/customers while on the phone, but he stayed on the call with me for 15 minutes as I described the problem. He was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and good-hearted, but what impressed me most is that he offered a few potential remedies that I could do myself, rather than, as he said "come out and charge me for the visit and whatever solution he could come up with." He correctly diagnosed the issue over the phone, and his remedy worked! You can tell that he is a man of his word, with high integrity, knowledge, and passion for the job and his customers. After dealing with so many different contractors and handymen around DC, it's so refreshing to communicate with someone like Mr. Saini. Wow! is about all I can say about these guys. You can believe everyone of the five star ratings. Rob and his brother inherited this company from their father and they obviously approach their work differently from virtually all other service companies. Rather than giving priority to maximizing company products, their goals are to 1) Inform the customer as to how their heating and cooling system works and 2) Make sure their workmanship is of the highest quality. Rob literally spent two hours at my place inspecting and repairing a leaky furnace yet he charged me a fraction of the amount I was expecting. I think that's because much of his visit involved explaining how my heating and AC system works and inspecting the system to see if there were any other potential problems. He did a first class job and refused to leave until he was sure the leak was addressed. Finally, Rob is just an incredibly nice guy. I actually felt bad when he left. I wish I had such a decent person as my neighbor. I feel incredibly grateful to have found this company. read more

Even before coming, Rob walked me through some of the issues why the heat may be only working while using the heat emergency setting thermostat. He told me to check various things like the main circuit brake, making sure there was no ice build up outside the fan/unit (our is forced air, not gas), new/clean air filter, etc. There are two separate units in our house for upstairs and one for the downstairs unit and long story short, Rob spent almost 4 hrs. at the house as he said he was first looking at the wrong unit that didn't have any issues and only realized his mistake as he was well into it. He said it was his mistake and only charged us the fee for him to come on out. We felt bad since it turned out he looked at both units. He checked everything including making sure all the wires were secured inside each of the units. He said everything is in place. He tested both heat and AC and all was working properly. He said there is a time delay of 5+ minutes when you turn on the heat/regular setting and that's probably why when you used the regular heat setting the heat didn't come on right away. Thus, in the future, give it some time for the heat to kick in & the regular setting should be working just fine. He found a minor issue and we asked if it was necessary for the part to be replaced and he said no since if we've never had any issue since living there for the past 10 yrs, than it probably isn't any issue even if it is the wrong piece. We really appreciate Rob's honestly and his willingness to only charge us the minimum for his time. Since we aren't very handy and know nothing about HVAC it's really reassuring to know there are guys like Rob who won't cheat you to make some big $$. Highly recommend! : ) read more

Based on other reviews, i called when my heat had stopped working. Dave called me back and he asked me to take a few pictures of the inside of the furnace. He then stepped me through the simple repair over the phone and I have heat again. He wouldn't let me pay for the service. My "through the wall" AC unit blew out right as the big July heat wave hit. Seeing the high Yelp ratings, I called Saini and they returned my call within a day. Rather than try to sell me something I didn't need, they gave me good advice about how I could replace the AC unit on my own for much less money. They even helped me troubleshoot whether it might be the AC unit itself or the power outlet/circuit breaker. I highly recommend Saini Air Conditioning as honest, helpful and knowledgeable.
