First time here. Didn't know where to go to get my son's hair cut. After searching Yelp, we decided to try O'Carneys. Made an appointment online (super easy). He's been growing out his hair for almost 3 years. Senior portraits are soon and I pretty much begged my son to do something/ ANYTHING to his hair. Reluctantly and after much research, he opted for a wolf cut. CJ is so talented! My son showed him a picture of the haircut. He took a glance, said OK and started chopping away. Booked an appointment a week in advance and the barber Korey was a no call, no show despite a couple of appointment reminders (including the day before). Worst customer service experience in my life and quite honestly the owner (who I think may have been the main barber working when I walked in) should fire that barber on the spot the next time he decides to show up. I drove 30 minutes for my appointment and then I waited around 15 minutes with no call / cancellation. Honestly, weird vibes from the shop in general as neither of the other two barbers working greeted me when I walked in. At every other barber shop I've been to in my life, the other barbers greet every customer when they walk in regardless of whether or not they are going to cut their hair (sometimes simply to make sure the person walking in has an appointment or to make sure they can accommodate). Awkward silence when I walked in with no acknowledgement or greeting. By the way, this barber shop (where the barbers don't show up to appointments) has the audacity to charge customers a $20 no show fee! How can you have a policy like that when your own barbers can't keep their appointments? This was the weirdest barber experience I've ever had in my entire life. 0/5. Do not recommend. read more

My son went to this barbershop today. He Stopped by as a walk in,as it didn't look busy. And it was in fact, NOT busy. There were 3 barbers. One customer getting a haircut. That's it. The vibe was completely unwelcoming as the two other barbers were playing on their cell phones not acknowledging anything. Awkward, weird. Then the one other customer that was there got his cut finished and now there are 3 barbers playing on their cell phones. And my son sitting there. Not being acknowledged, and the only customer in the shop! . Unbelievable. An old guy walks in complaining he couldn't get on their ever loving app to make an appointment, and then they said they were booked up for the day. Waste of time. Great hair cut, but I'm so bummed because I won't feel comfortable bringing my son back again. The explicit rap music they had on in addition to matching music videos showing nearly naked women climbing out of swimming pools dripping wet was so offensive. Hands down most awkward barber shop experience I've ever had. These guys are young, sweet, and talented but not showing respect to Auntie or Keiki. Considered asking them to turn it off but was honesty curious to see how far they would let it go. each song was more and more filthy. I have been cutting my husbands hair for 30 years. I send him to pros when he wants to keep his hair longer, so I encouraged him to try this place. He went in and told them he wanted to keep his length, just wanted some shape. When he came home, he looked like a pipe cleaner! His hair had been cut SO SHORT that it's sticking up everywhere! Nothing at all what he asked for. It's short and uneven, the crown of his head looks like a wedge. If you care about the shape and length of your hair, this is not the place for you. I feel really lucky to have found this top notch barber on Maui. Ryan, the owner, cut my hair and got it exactly right. I showed him a picture of what I had in mind that was all it took. He really knows his craft and is a true professional. Because they are considered the best men's barber on Maui, one has to book the appointment ahead of time. They have a great online portal that makes this pretty easy. They adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines mandated by the major and both the barber as well as the customer have to wear a mask throughout the visit. There is also a screening questionnaire that has to be filled out before the appointment. Felt very safe and throughout. Other establishments and even medical clinics could follow their example as they have streamlined the process extremely well. Two guys and a gal have chairs here and do a great job. They know all the locals and keep up on mainland news too. Nice to talk to Island techie folks. Free soda with every haircut - just grab one out of the mini-fridge. Decent haircut, only one small notch mistake but I was probably screwing around in my chair at the time and deserved it! read more

GREAT "REAL" BARBER SHOP you will feel like part of it quickly as they are all friendly. This was my second time in there and they made me feel like i grew up in there as family. It is no appointments first come first serve with a list when busy. They are totally cool if u like leave and come back once your on the list or stay and talk story. I only mention this so not to be confused if someone appears to come in after you yet gets in the chair ahead of you.
